    Sorry Chef Buck but I have to agree with CG. Fresh artichokes are awesome and because my Mom loved them, eating them brings back memories at the dinner table when I was a kid. Those artichokes you found are beautiful. Usually stores around here carry puny ones.

      that's what I was telling CG!--she likes artichoke because she has a fond memory association with eating them! ...however, I do not...although I do enjoy eating those horrible orange circus peanut candies because of a fond childhood memory, and I'm pretty sure those things aren't even food

    Thanks for your recipe, I love artichokes. If you don't mind adding some carbs try this method. Pound the artichoke flower side down onto the counter to open up the leaves. Mix in a bowl, 1 cup of Italian bread crumbs, 1 tablespoon of parmesan cheese, and a pinch of salt and pepper. Cut off the stem so the artichokes sit flat on the bottom. Take your mixture of bread crumbs and fill all the artichoke leaves about halfway. Drizzle with olive oil. Take a pot, pour in a bag of lima beans or butter beans in the bottom. Pour in enough water to cover the beans, and carefully set your artichoke flower side up on top of the beans nestling them in place, but not so deep water spills into the leaves. Cover and set temp to medium heat, do not boil. Takes about 45 min, it will be done when the leaves easily pull free. To eat grab the leaf by the tip and scrape the lower half of the leaf with your teeth to remove the breading and soft flesh part, discard the hard part of the leaf. When you reach the heart of the artichoke, scrape off the thistle with a fork, the heart of the artichoke is the real treat. Enjoy!

    My family are Sicilian, and artichokes are a traditional favourite. My mum goes mad for them. As for myself I am lazy and don't like eating them that way! However, my grocery store sells grilled artichokes in a jar, they are tender and you can eat the pieces whole. I enjoy them in a salad or as a tasty snack on those miniature toast bread crackers. ✨🐬✨

    Camera girl has a dirty mind. Artichoke are great. Just boil them for an hour and scrape off the bottom of the leaves with your teeth until you get to the heart. Once you get to the heart you can easily scrape off the hair and get right to the heart. Either use melted butter to dip it in or mix mustard and mayo. DELISHUSSSSSSSSSSSS!!

    I enjoyed this video. I steam veggies a lot in my microwave and I think this is the first video I have seen you two cook with one. I also was introduced to another food that squeaks. I wonder if you could do something else with the artichokes to use more of it. I have made candy from orange peels. I bet there are some old recipes of people pressure cooking the leaves to break down the fiber and then doing something with the results like deep frying or pickling.,etc.

    • @ChefBuckRecipes
      @ChefBuckRecipes  4 года назад

      yes, I think artichoke could only benefit from an unhealthy dose of cooking. We generally don't have a microwave, and I never miss them...I prefer more counter space over the so-called convenience of a microwave, but since we left Seattle, and have been traveling, almost everyplace we stay now has a microwave

    As the son of an Italian mother my siblings and I had lovely artichokes as we grew up. They are a bit odd but when something is introduced in the early years it seems quite natural. My mother would steam them with garlic and olive oil. They can be a bit tricky to eat but they are very delicious. We always had small bowls of mayonnaise or spiced oil and vinegar to dip the more tough leaves before scraping them against our teeth. It was delicious. Then when the softer leaves were coming up one could eat whatever they found digestible. Finally, one would be able to dig out the heart and it was like a jewel and tasted wonderful. There are many different recipes for artichokes - also according to age and size. Jewish cookery has a recipe for deep fried artichokes which I have never tried but they look amazing - you can then eat many more of the tougher leaves as they soften and become crunchy due to the cooking style.

    you have never tasted artichokes till you tasted the Roman ones, Rome, Italy has the best and most tender ones that you can't find anywhere else, the Roman artichoke is famous and very meaty. the leaves are tender and eatable, you never pick artichokes when they have bloomed that is why they have hard leaves, the Roman has no beard and no hard pointy red leaves. Unfortunately you can only find them in Rome and that is where I live, I am lucky.

    "You will realize that your life was good till you got yourself an antichoke" haha, what a great way to sum it all up, Chef!! Awesome recipe by both of you! However, I must agree with Chef Buck that it's not that enjoyable when we have to throw away 75% of the vegetable. The vitamins and stuff mentioned by Camera Girl is definitely good but this might be an expensive and annoying way of acquiring it. However, this recipe and presentation is valuable as we are often required to prepare such dishes whenever we do feel like eating one or perhaps for guests. So, thank you for sharing this with us, Chef and CG!!
