    I've seen dashcam videos of the Charger V8 easily topping 150 mph. I've also watched videos that would compared the Charger V6 AWD to the Explorer 3.3 HEV. The Charger V6 AWD has a better high speed passing time and can reach its top speed of 130 faster than the Explorer 3.3 HEV.
    The Charger 5.7 will be the last true American police interceptor. A full-sized sedan powered by a V8 engine with RWD that is loud and fast and is able to keep up with almost any vehicle out there.

  • @porscheguy09

    The AWD 5.7 liter HEMI V8 model is the one to get when buying a used one. Dodge stopped producing them in 2020 and went to just the V6 being available in AWD. I’ve seen some nice low mileage Chargers that were Detective or Lieutenant cars and weren’t abused that people have purchased. But with the cancellation of the AWD HEMI option and the cancellation of the Charger overall the prices will likely go up.

    Well, either Dodge changed a few things or they are lying about those numbers. I'll start by saying the Ford interceptors, Taurus's and the Explorers are pretty much trash compared to other police vehicles but they are a lot cheaper as to why I think a lot of departments went with them. The top speed in the Fords are listed incorrectly, unless something has changed with the newer models of the past few years because they top out at 132mph not the advertised 148mph. Idk what the hell they're driving to say that. The weak point is the drive shaft as to why the lower speed. Cheaply made and not balanced so anything faster would destroy it. Also, the Crown Vic is still king of police vehicles despite a similar top speed that's listed as 128mph. I found that 132mph was the top speed in my Vic when It was still in service. I'm surprised dodge is discontinuing the charger because they really could have taken over the market for police vehicles.

    • @MarspeedCars
      @MarspeedCars  2 года назад +2

      Yeah in my mind it makes sense the Fords are popular as many of the fleets/agencies will simply want the lowest priced vehicles, end of discussion. Hmm interesting, this was listed at the 2023 Michigan Police Test combine. Maybe they took off a limiter or something there not sure. Thanks for the great info!

    • @holycats8
      @holycats8 2 года назад

      @@MarspeedCars I'm more familiar with earlier Ford SUV interceptors and that was the top speed, they just wouldn't push over the 132mph threshold, however that very well could have changed. It also could be like the crown vic's where they offered 2 different transmissions. I don't recall the gear ratios but it seemed like it was a city model and a highway model. They very well could have just made the newer years uniform and faster with higher quality drive shafts. The 2015 and 2016 we have top at 132mph. I'm not sure about the 2022s we have though. I will say that the 2015/16 models aren't very good. I don't know much about the challengers but Ford thought putting a plastic gas pedal was a good idea to put into a police vehicle. A few towns over they had a gas pedal break completely off. I'm no longer involved in acquiring new vehicles as to why I'm not familiar with them that much as far as accurate specs. They cost a bit more now but when Ford was trying to break into the market they sold the SUVs for around $23k because every department was holding on to their crown vic's longer. Once outfitted the total cost was around $33-35k. Now they cost in the mid to higher $30k range and the total cost is $45-50k depending how you outfit them. The low price for earlier models isn't a new tactic to grab the market to buy a different vehicle. Jeep tried to break into the emergency vehicle market in the 90's with the cherokee. They practically gave those away with the extremely low cost. Obviously it didn't work for them. I'm sure I'll hear about the accurate top speed of the newer models once I know someone that takes it for the full rip. I'm too old to try it. Lol. I'm sure the Arkansas State Police will eventually get into a pursuit with one and then we'll know what the top speed is. I'm actually really surprised they are starting to add the Fords to their fleet.

      @@Hinru13 Sounds like you're getting a real patrol vehicle and I hope it serves you well. Not many PDs in my area use the dodges so I don't know much about them. I heard rumblings that they weren't reliable but I think those were just the old guys bitching because they wanted their vic's back. The weak point in Jeep/Chrysler and dodge always seemed to be the transmissions but it can't be worse than the exploders. There was a small town PD near me that replaced the transmission 3 times in one year on the same exploder and I'm not surprised you guys were shedding parts at speed with the Fords. Small town PD that drives them like a regular car and they stopped pursuits 10+ years ago so there's no reason for a transmission to go bad on the Fords, especially with low miles. I'll also say the vic was better than what Ford has now in one very important aspect, the vic was very predictable on how it would drive and handle, the exploder, not so much.
      This is just a funny anecdotal story. I was in my vic and I had an exploder behind me when we got a hot call. Once we pulled out of the parking lot I pulled away from the exploder and he never really caught up until I missed the turn for the call. I could of kept going and got the 2nd entrance (the road is a horseshoe with a couple more horseshoes added onto it). I slammed on the brakes and lit up the tires when I reversed, the dashcam was pretty damn funny to watch that. Lol
      I'm not saying my vic outperformed the exploder because it was one of our younger guys driving. He did have a very experienced guy riding with him who called out that I was going to reverse once he saw me slam on the brakes. Lol
      I'm sure you'll be happy with the new dodge over the Ford. It was funny seeing you calling the Ford the exploder because that's what we called them 25+ years ago so I'm glad the nickname stuck. Lol
      Good luck with her and stay safe out there. If you remember, come back to this comment and let me know how it works out. I could look at spec sheets all day but it's the officer behind the wheel that will be able to tell you how the car really is vs. a spec.

    Despite the endless criticism the new Charger is receiving, I’m sure it’ll make a great police car in America. It could also become a taxi, due to it now being America’s only full-size non-luxury sedan, specifically the most basic trim which I assume will lack too many bells and whistles.

    I don't understand why Dodge is getting rid of the gas powered Charger's and Challenger's. Sure, they are looking to go to EV's but so far, Ford lost $3 billion on EV's and with Dodge losing these sales, how long until they turn a profit? Why not continue with the gas powered cars but also offer EV versions like Ford did with the Mustang badge?

    Pity is doesn't show a synchronised warning light system.
    It's a mess as shown. Different flash rates, different phasing, bi-lateral unsymmetry: almost impossible for a motorist to quickly and accurately identify the vehicle as a unit, and assess its disposition and relative motion.
    Far better is the ambulance unit at the start of: ruclips.net/video/9o3UEmvZcng/видео.html This shows what should be the national standard for all emergency and service vehicles: a synchronized phase array of bi-laterally symmetrical signals = a high impact, unitary identification of the emergency vehicle. It allows instant driver recognition, short reaction times and facilitates good decision making. It makes complex scenes, and EVs in complex road environments quickly and easily interpreted by on-coming drivers.
