Can it beat the Rocket? AVerMedia Live Gamer Extreme 3, 4K Capture Card w/ VRR & HDR | HNE Tech

Today, we are going to check out the AVerMedia Live Gamer Extreme 3 (GC551G2). It was a recommendation by ChrisKewl to replace the nearly decade old Hauppauge HD PVR Rocket. The Live Gamer Extreme 3 uses an USB3 connection to the computer with a HDMI 2.0 pass-through. While the Rocket uses USB2, HDMI 1.2 and component connections, but it has a 1080p DVR feature. The end goal is to use the LGE3 to live stream and the Rocket to record. We will compare the streaming video quality at 1080p using a Nintendo Switch.
After recording the first few parts of this video, I had worked out the USB connection problems with AVerMedia and XSplit. Essentially, XSplit said to switch the settings in the Broadcaster software from using the GPU to the CPU for processing. The default is CPU, but I had previously switched to the GPU in hopes of smoother frame rates less reliant on what my CPU was doing. Another recommendation was setting the frames per second to multiples of 30. At any rate, AVerMedia had me exchange the LGE3 in hopes that they could further isolate the issue. With a replacement in hand, and after both AVerMedia and XSplit updated their firm/software, the problem was solved.

UPDATE: After testing three different AVerMedia USB cables, one of which they sent as a replacement for the second cable, AVerMedia seems to have received a bad shipment of USB cables. If you get a bad video feed to your computer but the pass-through to your television/monitor is fine, buy your own replacement USB 3 Gen 2 cable. Alternative cables are in this video's description.
