Dimarzio is often reluctant to release their artist models for youtubers/social media figures to test/advertise as they don’t sell/produce many compared to their flagship pickups.
Its nice to see this. I'm a fan of medium output pups thanks to Jon Schaffer. If you have an amp thats super hi gain you dont need really hot pups. In fact less output will usually result in a cleaner tone.
I love the way vintage Hot paf pickups sound with High Gain. I too like Iced Earth and that is the ultimate example of a passive low output pickup that lets you hear every detail of the picking Style and allows you to use more preamp gain on the amp. I played mostly with bare knuckle pickups the Riff Raff black dog, the abraxus. And I have some throwback pickups vintage Hot for one of my left Paul's. I'm going to go with this pick up here. The Solitude. In a Kiesel singlecut. Every brand of pickup maker makes a vintage hot pick up that is appropriate for metal. And they all sound a little bit different I cannot really pick a winner. If you have multiple guitars try them all.
Found out about Gojira the year they released "Love". To this day it's still in my all time fav list. Now about the pickups, having a PAF or a low output pickup for metal makes sense because you need the clarity and the sustain of a vintage sounding pickup. But these pups go hand in hand with a huge sounding amp like the one here otherwise they may sound thin and rather disappointing.
Put one in my LTD TE-200 a few months ago and absolutely love it. Playing it through an Orange CR120 head and Mesa Recto 4x12 cab. I love the sound so much. Awesome to see someone finally do a video on this 😍😍
Wow, this was the second time I really liked the sound of pickups in your test without a backing track, really impressive the sound of this pickup with strong distortion ! I want a set like that for one of my guitars !!
If Gojira is in the title of a video I click on it! Best band on the planet currently! Actually how I discovered Gojira was from the video of Joe demoing these pickups on Dmarzio's RUclips channel. I heard the opening riff and immediately looked them up and have been hooked ever since.
Brian Pritchett they dropped their first album in 2001. Before that they weren’t even called Gojira. If I say it like this then; Gojira is the last good & original metal band
Watching the sped-up sections with the little whirrs of the driver was a lot of fun, makes me want to get one myself (especially after disassembling some strat clones recently haha)
Sounds pretty balanced....I’ve played an LP type with the DiMarzios 36th, and thought it was good....so I assume I’d enjoy these slightly more.....great tones.
I fuckin love it. I have it my Gibson lp studio. And yes it did take me a while to get used to it but my first experience using it was through a Mark V. I’m sure that played into it lol
Love the sound of that pickup! I play metal, but want to hear every note/strings. Lower output pickups allow you to do that. Counter intuitive for metal, I know......Guess I’m off to buy one...LOL
From reviews and sound samples, that sounds soooo close to a Bare Knuckle Black Dog. Same output, similar character, a bit throaty, the dynamic of a vintage PAF. But cheaper.
That's a sick guitar. Pickups always seem more expensive than they are worth. Love my cheap SD knock off. Leaving them in that guitar says a bunch. Those actually seem like a good pickup.
I always wondered if low output pups like a Jazz werent the way to go. Keep the clarity and just turn the gain up vs. go to a crazy hot pup. I have a JB/Jazz combo in my Soloist. Tempted to try a Jazz/Jazz.
Lovely lovley guitar expecialy with the new pick up looks mutch nicer with the two chrome pick ups, the first I saw one was in one of your own videos or one of Jared Dines a green one and the burst ones in the Rest Repose videos, wanted one ever since😂
The new version of Joe's Charvel also looks DOPE as fuck. I'm a sucker for modern spec retro-looking guitars. And it comes with a medium-ish hot pickup? All the win.
Can you share what cab or IR would match this tone ? I’m working on a record we started in 2019 with Chris Adler and producer Zeuss and I’ve been chasing this tone for a while Bought several guitars and pickups This I like the most thanks !
Did you have tone rolled off for the clean part? It sounds so much closer to the middle position... definitely not like any "bridge" position pickup I've ever heard.
Sounds awesome! Thinking on getting a PAF 36th Anniversary set for my LP! What do you think of the 36th anniversary you put in the neck? Have a rockin'day Fluff!!
Just put one bridge fortitude in my les paul custom silverburst ! Awesome !!! I started with sh4 then sh6 then sh11 and now this is fortitude for ever !!
I would probably either go with the True Velvets or maybe the Injectors ( Keith Urban actually uses those ) If you are going with Dimarzio send them an email and tell them what you're looking for. I have done that before and their customer service is really good.
Hey Ryan - I did a Top 10 Guitar RUclips channels that you are in! Check it out to see what we small channels admire about our big brothers, so to speak! It’s this week’s video- would put a link here but YT would likely filter it. Thanks for all that you do!
Holy crap! I love that Gibson! My ESP with Dimarzios sounds so much better than the Duncan’s I have in another guitar - X2N and Liquifier- so the tight!
I feel like signature pick ups are kinda bs. A James hetfeild or Jim Root already built there sound without them and none of us noticed a difference after they had signature pickups. It's just marketing no matter what they say.
The way I see it, low output pickups just let high gain amplifiers do the work that they're designed to do. There's no need to over bloat the sound with screaming hot pickups.
Not enough DiMarzio coverage on the internet! This is a welcome addition.
Saarang Narayan We did one go check it out!
Dimarzio needs to step up their online presence. Seymour Duncan beat them with their social media and constant blog content
Dimarzio is often reluctant to release their artist models for youtubers/social media figures to test/advertise as they don’t sell/produce many compared to their flagship pickups.
Totally agree. I have a Tone Zone on the bridge and a Bluesbucker on the deck. I have no complaints or regrets.

I can attest to Gojira being an amazing sounding live band. In fact, I’ve yet to hear any other band that sounds even better than the record.
Muse is the only other band that comes to mind
amon amarth sounds amazing live, aswell
The contortionist. Tesseract 100% if you catch dan on a day where he hasn’t been playing for 5 nights straight also and plini
I agree
Tool & Meshuggah
How in THE HELL are you gonna plug into a gojira amp with gojira pickups and not start tapping OROBORUS!!!
right?...if you have a les paul maybe...cuz that toggle will get right in the damn way...
A trick: watch series at Flixzone. Been using it for watching loads of movies these days.
@Samuel Jaiden definitely, I have been watching on flixzone for since december myself =)
Never been a fan of the les paul scale.
I wish esp would offer versions of the eclipse with a 25.5 scale.
Wtf thats not fluff cleans

Vintage hot, kinda like us old guys!

Shaniqua Conston I did the same build as you Check it out on my Channel!
You should put up a video of your rig on RUclips
I was considering the same upgrade.
Sold.
If you like mastodon I bet you could nail their tone with that setup
wait a minute? are you actually playing clean? 😁 good for you for expanding your horizons!
With low output pickups like that, it was inevitable to have a clean sound
You only use a clean tone for a distortion pedal
Fluff dials in the worst cleans
🤯😂😂😂
@@Starch1b2c3d4a Everything's at noon
Really want to get one of these for my second guitar. Gojira has one of, if not the best metal guitar tone out there.
Digging the cinematography 03:54, nice touch
Let the amp do the heavy lifting while retaining clarity and definition.👍🏻

totally agree!

You mean best band on the ocean planet right?😉
Best background music on any channel -10+ years running. Love it.
Pretty fun to actually think about that a band with this heavy of a sound, exclusively now plays Fender gear(Charvel, EVH, Jackson etc)
Watching the sped-up sections with the little whirrs of the driver was a lot of fun, makes me want to get one myself (especially after disassembling some strat clones recently haha)
Those 36th anniversary pafs are brilliant pickups. My favorite humbucker.
Been using 77 super distortions forever now and they are my favorite thing on the planet, god bless dimarzzio
Just installed this exact same set in a PRS Zach Meyers guitar. Absolutely magic sounding!
Why was that tune for the mix just a quick, nasty stoner rock riff with a Gojira scrape at the end? 😂
I mean it sounded pretty good lmao
Gojira? auto like!
I CAN HEAR THE WHALES!

@@Brookzplayzmuzic hear- it’s a pickup :)
Give the Dimarzio Dominion a go. I'd love to hear your thoughts.
I have a pair in a guitar. Extremely satisfying pickups, don't need a lot of work to get them sounding nice and juicy!
Dominion is awesome. My favorites and I’ve tried a ton
Seriously, your clean sound was actually clean. Are you feeling ok? :)
non-guitar related question, what's the make an model of your shoes? i'm a fan
I like the Gibson RD. I had one for a bit back in the late 80's. Maple fretboard version. I have always wished the headstock was different though.
Sounds pretty balanced....I’ve played an LP type with the DiMarzios 36th, and thought it was good....so I assume I’d enjoy these slightly more.....great tones.
All my years of playing guitar, I have never heard anyone say “paf” 😂
I've heard it a few times. Drives me crazy.
P...A...F.
Well Dimarzio calls them PAFS because they trade marked that actual name to avoid lawsuits. But yes they are normally called “P.AF.” Humbuckers
Just ordered the fortitude bridge for my Duplantier San Dimas (non mahogany) since it has the custom Duncan ones
Sounds like a 498T with more output ? Thank you for this review.
Hi, 8 months in the future and we should've known, the cheeky French men, Fortitude out April 30th woo!
when it comes to passive pickups! Dimarzio is the best. crunchlab is probably my favourite!
What an amazing pickup the crunchlab is. Very underrated imo
Gbison rd guitar pickup s very nice
Love this tone. Great mix. Great pickup combo.
I love the Steve's Special. It breathes fire.
I fuckin love it. I have it my Gibson lp studio. And yes it did take me a while to get used to it but my first experience using it was through a Mark V. I’m sure that played into it lol
I noticed your gain setting. I dig that. I have a Peavey triple XXX and I use the crunch channel with my gain at 9 o'clock for the most part.
when you change pickups, do you need to rewire everything too, or do they just slot in, and the wiring is all handled down below deck? :)
Nice!! I love the dynamics!! They definitely emulate Joe’s flawless sound!!🤘
This pickup kinda represents the tone and atmospheric feel of their newest album, Magma.
So glad this exists. Just bought a 77 RD standard and was looking at new pickups for it, was about to go bareknuckle buuuuutt.......
Coincidentally picked one up yesterday! Always wanted a bit warmer and fatter 36th.
one of the best tones you have had Fluff . nice !
Love the sound of that pickup! I play metal, but want to hear every note/strings. Lower output pickups allow you to do that. Counter intuitive for metal, I know......Guess I’m off to buy one...LOL
Around the 3:34 mark what your playing reminded me of days of the new.

Dimarzio Paf Pro and Fred loaded into my ibanez and it's awesome. It's a shame Dimarzio just dont have the online presence like other brands.
I'm addicted too the Mark Morton signature PU from Dimarzio, but this is one I wanna check out too.
Dude totally agree about best sounding live band. Gojira is a powerful force.
Quick question, would you use these pickups in a PRS 30th Anniversary??? Would these pickups be an upgrade?
Nice sounding pickups.
The Easter Egg in this video is the tribute to the verse of sleep city you’ve done with RestRepose 🙌🏻

You really got those pickups raised high.

Bonne démonstration monsieur Rbg.
Yo fluff you GOTTA get one of the seymour duncan jupiter 6 pups

im sure these pickup can do the adam jones / Tool sound as well. To me its sound like the ''JB'' of Dimarzio. Nice playing and demo!
