This is the name of the Dec 2013 show celebrating lead Su-metal's 16th birthday. She is the "Legend", born in 1997.
*Acceptance by the Metal Community:*
I would say Babymetal has been widely accepted today, althought I'm sure there are still a few gatekeeping hold outs. They were met with a bit more pushback earlier on due to how unique they are, and the fact they are "manufactured" and didn't play their own instruments. With that said, many key artists has praised Babymetal:
- They covered Painkiller and Breaking the Law with Rob Halford on stage in 2016.
- Corey Taylor of Slipknot is a fan, and put up the "fox sign" on stage when Babymetal watched Slipknot perform backstage
- Dragonforce co-wrote guitars on one of their hit songs Road of Resistance, and snuck them into Download UK 2015 and played on stage with them.
- Rob Zombie fired back at his own fans hating on Babymetal and said that "these girls roll harder than 90% of the bands I've toured with".
- Lars Ulrich saw them in 2013 and couldn't wait to show Babymetal to his wife.
*Kami Band:*
While not "officially" Babymetal, their backing band, the Kami Band is some of Japan's best session players. They started supporting Babymetal in 2012 with encores only, then transitioned to a full backing band in 2014. In 2019, Babymetal added 4 US musicians to assist with increased touring (Kami Band West). Kami West has taken over as of Apr 2023 as Babymetal's sole backing band.

The girls crush Catch me if you Can at Legend 97, I think's it's the best version live with Tokyo Dome 2nd. Everyone reacts to the compilation cause at has the Kami intro BUT Legend is the Best. And to the reactors choosing songs like Megitsune, Death and Road of Resistance from PIA 2023 for your first time hearing, that's Sacrilege. Yeah I said it. Go for it with all "The Other One" tracks from PIA But the Original trio classics, NOPE.
Oh and Ganimal83 SOLID song/video selections, I'll throw in Megitsune Budakon 2015, when the girls appear elevating up on the platforms, EPIC shit!

I think you will really like Rondo of Nightmare as the version with the mischief of metal gods intro really shows off the band, and then shows off Su's voice.

Appreciate you also did the live version. Because this is what they do. Actually in a recent interview Su-metal said: "BABYMETAL's live performances have become everything that defines BABYMETAL".
Too old? Nope! On my last BABYMETAL concert, there was an elderly Japanese couple next to me (probably in their 80s). They were all energy and made me give my best. I also was a little worried because I was probably twice the lady's weight and size. 😅
I mean, BABYMETAL has an incredibly diverse demography. So, age is not an excuse for not going to see them live. Which I strongly recommend doing.

Now you got to see the Girls in their natural habitat. The 2 little dancers just keep the crowd pumped up full steam the whole time. I have been to 2 shows now and the energy just infects the whole crowd. I am 54, I saw Loudness live at Monsters of Rock in like 86-88. I am a Metalhead/Punk Rocker, maybe the Pop Punk got me more in tune with something like this. 1997 is the birthyear of the main singer, the 2 little ones are 1999.

I may be repeating bits, but I can't say nothing at all.😁 Legend 1997 was a one-off concert in December 2013 to celebrate lead sing Su-metal's 16th birthday - she was born in 1997. They had a concert 6 months earlier called Legend 1999 to celebrate the two younger girls' (the metal cheerleaders, Yuimetal and Moametal) 14th birthdays.
You said how the Kami Band looked like they were dead - that is deliberate. Kami means god or spirit, so they are the gods of guitar, bass and drums summoned from the dead to support BABYMETAL in the Metal Resistance (their lore has them chosen by the Fox God to rejuvenate and breath some fresh life into metal).
As the gods of their respective instruments they wore the corpse face paint and traditional white burial robes.
Late 2017 the white robes were swapped for black and in 2019 masks replaced the corpse face paint.
'Headbanger' was the 12th or 13th song in this concert. They had been keeping up that same energy (with no drop in quality) for every song ... there were two more songs after this including the finale 'BABYMETAL Death' (that one will surprise you - and anybody still doubting they are Metal will be proved entirely wrong when they watch that performance).🤯🤘

Glad you mentioned BABYMETAL Death from this show, the heaviest, most theatrical and absolutely mind blowing version of it, IMHO. Second to that would be the Legend S version, but that´s a hard one to react to...

Nice reaction! I'm 63 and seen babymetal live and seen most of the major bands in the 70s and 80s...babymetal are just as good if not better than most of those bands live.

Welcome to the wonderful world of happy metal that is BABYMETAL! At this Legend 1997 concert (2013), "Headbangeeer!!!", "Akatsuki (Unfinished Version) and "Babymetal Death" were the last three songs and were affectionately referred to by fans as "The Trilogy of Death".
There is a lot of lore and history to Babymetal, so the Foxhole runs deep.
Many of us older metalheads fell in love with Babymetal simply because they were different and unique in a world of stale, repetitive and frankly, depressing metal music.
Every Babymetal song is unique. If a song sounds like a previous Babymetal song, then it is not a true Babymetal song
That said, here now is my wall of the member's titles, nicknames and other (un)important information....
BABYMETAL started as an experimental sub-unit of the larger JPop/JRock group Sakura Gakuin (Cherry Blossom Academy)
Babymetal are:
Suzuka Nakamoto\Su-Metal (Vocals and Dance): Angel of Song, Queen Su, Queen of Kawaii, Metal Queen, and Metal Goddess.
Before Sakura Gakuin, she performed in a stage production of "The Adventurers" and was a member of the JPop trio, Karen Girls.
Fun Fact: Bullfrogs are her Kryptonite
Yui Mizuno\Yuimetal (Scream and Dance) Left the group in 2018 due to undisclosed health issues: Angel of Dance, Princess Yui, Yui-bot, Tomato Princess, Tomato-Kun, Kawaii Princess and Devourer of Souls (or at least she stares into your soul).
Yui had a minor role as a child actor in a Japanese TV Drama before joining Sakura Gakuin. She has cute, chubby cheeks.
Fun Fact: Yui is tickled by Bullfrogs.
** WARNING ** Do NOT, ever, under any circumstances call her “small”, "smol", “short” or “tiny” (same rule applies to Moametal).
Moa Kikuchi\Moametal (Scream and Dance): Angel of Love\Smile, Queen of Hearts, Princess Moa, Kawaii Princess, Super Moa-chan, Maiden of Mischief, and Headmistress of Hedabon.
She has huge dimples and a smile that melts the hardest of hearts.
Fun Fact: Loves to troll Su-metal on-stage with little pranks as well as torment Su-metal with Bullfrogs.
Momoko Okazaki\Momometal (Scream and Dance): Angel of Joy, Kawaii Princess, Princess Peach, Momo-Monster, Vampire Slayer and Kabuki Queen.
Also a Sakura Gakuin graduate. Was a contestant on the Korean reality survival program "Girls Planet 999" (which thankfully for The ONE, she was eliminated from early on) and performed in a stage musical production of "Black Butler". Momoko was the only “Avenger” (see below) to perform in the “10 BABYMETAL Budokan” shows in 2021 and was officially named Momometal and made a permanent member in April 2023. She deserves the spot!
Fun Fact: Momoko's father is a popular comedian in Japan known for making dead-pan jokes. Momoko worked very hard to make her way without using his name as a crutch.
BLACK BABYMETAL: Yuimetal and Moametal performing as a duet while Su-metal takes a breather. Also known as “MoiMoi”. There are 4 BBM songs (GJ!, Onedari Daiskusen, 4 No Uta\Song 4, and Sis. Anger) some of which Moametal performed solo a few times after Yui's departure. Now that Momometal is a member, we are hoping for more BBM songs with MoMoa! But only the Fox God knows.
AVENGERS: 3 Dancers who took turns performing the choreography in Yuimetal’s spot after her departure. They were not official members did not have microphones and were not even named. It was the fans who quickly figured out who they were and you will see them in live performances between 2018 and 2021.
They were:
Momoko Okazaki (see above).
Riho Sayashi: Suzuka’s former rival at Actors School Hiroshima, often competing for the same roles. Former “Ultimate Ace” of the JPop Idol group Morning Musume. Now a solo artist.
Kano Fujihara: Former Member of Sakura Gakuin, the school-aged Idol group that BABYMETAL was born out of. Like Suzuka and Moa before her, Kano was Student Council President her last year in Sakura Gakuin and like Yui, was considered arguably the best dancer in SG during her time there. She is now a member of the Idol group @onefive, which is comprised of 4 Sakura Gakuin graduates (Kano, Momo, Soyo and Gumi). Kano only performed with BABYMETAL in Japan as she could not travel, likely due to her commitments to Sakura Gakuin and the then developing @onefive.

I love your open-mindedness! I am a 76 year old metal lover, but I drifted away due to age and not being able to take in much negative messages... then I discover BABYMETAL with their positivity... They ALWAYS make me smile and have given me renewed hope. By all means go see them live at least once.

Their videos are cool too as well but live is better. They add more to the songs. And im a metal head through and through but i embraced babymetal for being different than the norm. If that isnt metal i dont know what is. These girls rock harder than most those haters to be honest. lol

Welcome to the fox hole, you have so much joy ahead of you, I grew up listening to the same bands as you and BM blow me away, live they are one of the most constantly good acts I've seen. This was recorded on Dec 21st 2013 to celebrate Sue's 16th birthday the day before, Yui and Moa were 14 and I find it amazing the talent and stage presence they had at that age. The song is basically about a girl on her 15th birthday going to her 1st heavy metal gig, I could recommend so many tracks but all I'll say is always go live,, there a performance and the crowd control and interaction is next level with queen Su. in charge.🤘🤘🤘🦊🦊

Aging metalhead who discovered BM in his late 30s here and even went to see them live - they're like nothing else I ever saw and for that reason alone they quickly became a favorite. They're metal AF but also *fun* - something few other bands can claim to be.

Babymetal meet resistance from some gatekeepers at 1st but broke through that bs sometime ago. Today they are very accepted in festivals around the world. To see that breakthrough you need to see their Sonisphere 2014 (UK) performance of Ijime Dame Zettai in front of 50,000 plus fans most of which started out at best skeptical. It is a much watch history as Babymetal themselves cite it as their most important show.

There are many people aged 60-70 who like Babymetal.
This performance was recorded in 2013, when the main vocalist Suzuka Nakamoto (Su-Metal) turned 16 years old.
This band is one of the few in which their live shows are better than the studio versions. The studio versions are only 25% of the total experience that each song offers.
I'm glad you're enjoying this band so much, but this is just the tip of the iceberg.
Continue this incredible musical journey and you will never regret it.
I suggest BABYMETAL Road of Resistance Live in Japan. Mindblowing performance.

@@BuckeyeCreeker1 Last BabyMetal show, I was in between an 8 year old girl and her dad, 2 Asian chicks, some black guy in a cool leather jacket, a 70ish year old women and like 3 normal 20 something metal heads. The black guy eventually lost it and ran into the big mosh pit never to be seen again.

BABYMETAL has been my favorite group for a few months now. The thing is, when I first heard them around 2014-2015, the song I heard (Gimme Chocolate) didn't hook me at all.
What I'm getting at with this is that I don't think metalheads in general don't like BABYMETAL, you just have to find the right song ("Metali!!" in my case). I have already seen somel reactions in which they don't really like it the first time, but by giving other songs a chance they end up entering the foxhole. BABYMETAL is for everyone, but also can be difficult to get into for people and I understand it.
In any case, I'm very happy that you show interest in a type of music that you haven't heard before. I'm looking forward to more reactions!

Akira from Loudness turns out to be the #1 influence of my new favorite guitarist, Hal-ca, from a little-known japanese power-trio called Asterism (who are going to be featured at Fox_Fest in a couple of weeks, btw). if you're interested, i'd say start with _Rising Moon_ or _Light in the Darkness_ (there are songs i like better, but no sense in starting you at the top of that mountain). btw, they are primarily instrumental. if you liked Vai and Satriani, you'll LOVE Asterism.

Where did you get your info? A large % Metalheads appreciated the Original Trio, hell so many Major bands invited them on tour like Metallica, Korn,Red Hot Chili Peppers, Stone Sour. They even played with Guns and Roses and opened for Lady Gaga's arena tour. The "GIMIC" disappears when you see them Destroy in person.

Welcome to one of the best unique bands who created their own genre for the last 14 years - always surprising, hardly a bad track in all that time - and DEFINITELY better live (but NOT official - which is often studio, with no intro's, way harder, audience participation etc). Obviously they're very young here and it's now 10+ years further down the line - but they are amazing no matter what period you pick with them - younger; more cute and with blisteringly insane energy - older; maybe a little slower but sophisticted tracks and better vocal range, amongst many other things. Whatever one may think of them it's undoubtedly metal music. Great reaction.

Metal elitist's are not open minded, if Metallica, Guns and Roses, Rob Halford, Rob Zombie, Korn, RHCP, Corey Taylor, Dragon Force , Marty Friedman, Tom Morello and many many others say BABYMETAL are metal, then they are. The band are session players, some of the very best in Japan and called the Kami Band or gods of music. They are at this concert Mikio Fujoka guitar RIP, Takayoshi Ohmura guitar, BOH 6 string bass and Aoyama Hideki drums.
