Babymetal (Japanese: ベビーメタル, Hepburn: Bebīmetaru) is a Japanese kawaii metal band consisting of Suzuka Nakamoto as "Su-metal", Moa Kikuchi as "Moametal" and Momoko Okazaki as "Momometal". The band is produced by Kobametal from the Amuse talent agency. Their vocals are backed by heavy metal instrumentation, performed by a group of session musicians known as the "Kami Band" at performances.
The band was formed in 2010, with the original lineup of Su-metal (vocal and dance), Moametal (scream and dance), and Yui Mizuno as "Yuimetal" (scream and dance), with the concept of creating a fusion of the heavy metal and Japanese idol genres. Originally a sub-unit of the Japanese idol group Sakura Gakuin, Babymetal became an independent act in 2013, following Nakamoto's departure from Sakura Gakuin.

That is how you open a Metal Show. Their vocals are normally clean and a bit poppy but the music is mostly hard and heavy. It is a cool mix cuz i got sick of grunt Metal.

My suggestions would be recent live performances of Road of Resistance, Monochrome, and Megitsune, all from PIA Arena 2023, which is the same concert that BABYMETAL DEATH is from.

This is the opening act for this concert. Reactors don't use to repeat songs , but take a look at this song in a concert called Legend 1997 , even off camera.
    The script:
    Crowd : ( speel) B-A-B-Y-M-E-T-A-L
    Girls:
    Su-Metal desu ( I'm Su-Metal )
    Moa Metal desu ( I'm Moa-Metal )
    Momo Metal desu ( I'm Momo-Metal )
Crowd : Death, Death, Death, Death... ( Desu in japanese sounds like Death in english)
Thank for the nice raction!! 🤘🦊

Based on what you said about how you like your metal I would recommend Rondo Of Nightmare, Karate, Sis. Anger, Tales Of The Destinies, Kagerou, Starlight, Mirror Mirror, MAYA, and Believing. BABYMETAL can't really be pinned down into one style or genre but I think those songs have at least some of the sludge that you're looking for. I always recommend looking for a live version of their songs though. Their live performances always elevate their songs.

Thanks for this reaction, it was great to watch!
The song you saw was almost certainly "gimme chocolate" from the "legend 1997" concert - it refers to (1997 birthyear) and was performed on Su-Metal (lead singer) 16th birthday near the start of the setlist. That concert is formatted as a rock-opera starting with much more pop influence, transitions to more and more metal as it goes, until it ends with "Babymetal - Death" in perhaps their most iconic performance of the song. That video went viral 10y ago (200m views now?) and was one of the earliest boosts to the band.
I saw "gimme chocolate" around the same time you did, it was fun and unique but didn't hook me. a couple of years ago "Babymetal - Road of Resistance (Live in Japan)" popped up on my feed and it hooked me like this performance hooked you. I haven't stopped finding as much of their live performance work as I can since then, and they are just amazing. Hope to see more!

If i were you id stay in the modern era of babymetal before venturing into the back catalogue, just to adjust yourself a litlle to their sound. Songs like Mirror Mirror or Monochrome. Of course live is always the best. Praise be to the Fox God and Kitsunes up! Enjoy the ride.

Welcome to the Foxhole and BabyMetal's journey 🦊🤘🔥
Unusual song to start your journey but get ready for more mind-blowing songs, always expect the unexpected.
Talking about Slipknot, they recently played in the same stage at Sick New World in Las Vegas, along with many more bands they were great supporters of BM since early era.
BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (kawaii means cute) mixing Jpop (not Kpop) with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. Their name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "baby-metal".
    They are:
    *SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 26.
*MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 24.
*MomoMetal* scream and dance, she's 21 and is the new official member since April 1st last year.
-YuiMetal- scream and dance, former member since 2018.
    None of them are related.
After 2018 you'll see backup dancers performing along with them but none of them are official members, they don't sing, only dance, but that status change recently like i said.
    About this song;
They're celebrating 10 years anniversary of the first album and along with this they released a Gimme Chocolate!! challenge on social media. They've been playing this blaster intro during the World Tour 2023/2024.
This was the first "Babymetal Death" version with MomoMetal as an official member and it was a comeback song after December 2017 iirc. They did Babymetal Death Shin Version at Budokan 2021 but it's a way different version.
Btw don't miss out the live version at Legend 1997 in 2013, it's even more shocking and impactful with the theatrical performance and one of the rare time they used it as an ender.✝️
Anyway always remember that we are -NotACult- 💀👀
I'm gonna leave in my next comment where to get more proshot clips safe to react if YT allows me to do it.
    Meanwhile next suggestion:
    - Road Of Resistance live in Japan official MV (2015)
    See you next time 🦊🤘🔥

Here's the list of live performance clips usually safe to reacts without any filters so you won't need to rely on live compilations, there might be some exceptions:
      - Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! live at Legend 1997, SuMetal 16th Birthday in 2013, they got MV of this and is fun, but live is a blast.
      ruclips.net/video/LNFiDWJh2FA/видео.html
      - Akatsuki, live at Budokan 2014, this is a SuMetal solo.
      ruclips.net/video/g2372C5PJLM/видео.html
      - Megitsune, official MV is my first recommendation but is usually blocked if you don't put filters, so if you want live and safe to react, check it out Budokan 2014.
      ruclips.net/video/dU38CYkpBvI/видео.html
      - Akatsuki Unfinished Version, SuMetal solo again but with only a piano behind special performance at Legend 1997.
      ruclips.net/video/nwsinmxTxbo/видео.html
      - Babymetal Death, live at Legend 1997, this is the big finale, you're gonna blow your mind with this one.
      ruclips.net/video/jRc9dbgiBPI/видео.html
      - Catch Me If You Can with Kami Band intro live at Budokan 2014.
      ruclips.net/video/ng8U_j0gpLI/видео.html
      - Ijime, Dame, Zettai live at Sonisphere Festival 2014, sometimes the official live MV isn't so friendly so you know what to do.
      ruclips.net/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/видео.html
      - Rondo Of Nightmare, with Mischiefs Of Metal Gods Intro live at Budokan 2014, another SuMetal solo but way different than usual happy songs.
      ruclips.net/video/8WBDiLMNZcE/видео.html
      - Doki Doki Morning, official MV, their very first song and MV full of kawaiiness, usually is safe to react so try it, if you want a live performance, this is the first proshot version with the Kami Band live at Legend 1999 (YuiMetal and MoaMetal 14th birthday).
      ruclips.net/video/BSjv9OYtWZ0/видео.html
      - Uki Uki Midnight, this one is a follow up to Doki Doki Morning but way different sound, this is the PV, is super fun but the sound isn't so great but at least is live.
      ruclips.net/video/Yj-UQIlqsIQ/видео.html
If you want better sound with the Kami Band, then live at Budokan 2014 it is.
      ruclips.net/video/ESzY9dL613Q/видео.html
      - Onedari Daisakusen, live at Legend 1997, this is a Black Babymetal song, is a subgroup with only YuiMetal and MoaMetal.
      ruclips.net/video/1dT1ywYR5So/видео.html
      - Iine! again official MV hits way better but if you want live, here live at Budokan 2014.
      ruclips.net/video/5sCvYVNeD0w/видео.html
      - Karate live at Download Festival 2016, "kitsune6001" got this with a short interview intro.
      ruclips.net/video/FKOL6v3Md2c/видео.html
      - Road Of Resistance live in Japan official live MV, be careful with the blocked by putting some filters just in case.
      ruclips.net/video/zTEYUFgLveY/видео.htmlsi=BsVOSExS25Qndy1H
      - Kimi To Anime Ga Mitai - Answer For Animation With You, live at Budokan 2014, not sure if it's still safe, so try some filters, if is audio blocked try to mute or just cut the parts.
      ruclips.net/video/M8FKumvh-w8/видео.html
Here's a song you can find at Babymetal Reactor Resource (BMRR), a helpful place to get watermarked logo clips of the original live version to curve the annoying algo.
      - GJ! live at Wembley Arena 2016, another Black Babymetal song.
      ruclips.net/video/Hg0Rylcg8F0/видео.html
This is BMRR short vid to follow instructions and get the spreadsheet with the full list.
      ruclips.net/video/q40VmTHSh4c/видео.html
And here's a BM guide (the long one).
      ruclips.net/video/aIb2xEthdSg/видео.htmlsi=EnEYU4nN3tuiY3WL
There's a beginners guide at "Briaghh" called "So... What is BabyMetal?" is more short and with some fair update until last year unlike the other one with full updates till this year.

Nice reaction. And that's how you open a show when you're Babymetal. There's an actual heavier version of this that they did for the ten years of Babymetal shows. All that just to introduce themselves. LoL. There are a lot of reasons why over the last 10 years that they have been thought of as one of the best live shows to experience. One of them is this song. The sacrifice that was made was their JPOP careers. And many of us are glad they did. Now they have a career that can last as long as they want to continue doing it. Unlike pop music where after a while the fans are looking for the next best thing. And in Japan for the most part those POP careers only last about 5 years. There are always exceptions to the rule but for the most part that's how it goes. But Metal is different. They have visited many genres of metal in their songs. some you'll like, others not so much but then you'll find one that sticks with you. The foxhole is deep and full of surprises. you may even be surprised which songs are the ones that stick with you.

No this is the same band you saw all those years ago and this is a song that was on their first album (2014) and that they have played for 10+ years. But Gimme Chocolate was also on that first album and it is very poppy. Babymetal is not limited by an genre assumptions or conventions. 11-12 years ago these women were in their early teens so they did some material that was more suited to their age. They are in their mid 20s now and they do material more suited to their current ages. Babymetal is just the three women who sing and dance. But they are backed by an incredible band that makes the whole package.

@@Hymnodic Huh? Multiple early intrerviews where they said the music was about topics relatable to young women. In multiple interviews around Metal Resistance release they said that the music represented them maturing physically and in capabilities. Literally a week ago Moa said in an intervciew how their music has changed as they have matured and grown. She actually said as they have grown in height. So yes the music absolutely has changed based on their age both in terms of content and complexity. No way they would have written say Kagerou for 14-16 year old girls. Same with say Monochrome. So if they said that in some interview I haven't seen I think they are just wrong and that the writers and choreographers have certainly changed things to suit their age and capabilities.

This group is just astonishing (the "death" routine is kind of a play on words ( "desu" specifically - which is I think pretty much the verb "to be")- it's not really about that, but more of an introduction ), there aren't enough superlatives to describe this group and all who support them (including their fans) - but they revived my interest in music after about 15 years. More please - and preferably LIVE but NOT generally "official" (misses intros, often the band, is often studio over concert etc etc), as they are primarily a live band. Great reaction to an early track, and welcome to one of the few groups who created their own genre and are still unsurpassed after 14 years.

Music with deep meaning: Monochrome(new), Megitsune (older).
Fun but heavy older music: Catch Me If You Can (very Slipknoty), Yava ( ska metal?)
Ethnic sounding and unique: Shanti Shanti Shanti(Indian metal?), Metalizm (Arabian metal?), Night Night Burn (Flamenco metal?), Oh Majinai (Celtic/Pirate metal?), Tales of the Destinies/The One (Prog metal).

Great first reaction, welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊Yes that probably was BABYMETAL you saw 10 years ago - I can almost guarantee you saw the official video for 'Gimme Chocolate' which was the song that went viral in 2014 just before they started touring internationally .... and I can almost guarantee you hated it and dismissed them as a gimmick pop act with distorted guitars and assumed every other song would be just like that one.
That was a mistake a whole lot of people made. There are a lot of die-hard BABYMETAL fans who did exactly that and only found out several years later what a huge mistake they had made.
The girls are BABYMETAL. They are the vocalists and dancers (just like all those other bands who have vocalists who don't play the instruments ... but those vocalists don't do complex choreography while they're singing, BABYMETAL do).
BABYMETAL don't follow the same formula or conventions as those other bands and nearly all the bands for the last 50-60 years and more. They are original and unique and they defy convention (which is a Metal attitude in itself).
They started in 2010 aged 12 and 11 and they pioneered their own new sub-genre mixing Metal with JPop hooks, melodies and aesthetics. They had to find an audience nobody believed would exist. They borrowed clothes to make their first stage costumes, they sang and danced to prerecorded instrumentals played on a backing track in shopping malls, a stage used for comedians by the food hall at a festival, their first solo concerts were in a tiny venue with a 150 capacity ... and against all the odds they found that audience.
Only when they had proved themselves and somehow started to gain some fans of their own did they get any financial backing to get costumes and most importantly to phase in a live backing band.
BABYMETAL are supported in all live shows since early 2014 (and in some since 2012) by the Kami Band. The Kami Band of the East are the very best session musicians to be found in Japan. The same hard core of about 6 musicians played the vast majority of concerts since about 2013.
In 2019 the Kami Band of the West (American musicians) were introduced to support BABYMETAL on their lengthier foreign tours.
Last year BABYMETAL played nearly 100 concerts in 25 countries. The Kami Band East played at the first concerts in January 2023, the Kami Band West played all the others concerts and have been supporting them in all their concerts and festivals so far this year.
This video was released a couple of months ago to celebrate the 10th anniversary of their first album being released - 'BABYMETAL Death' was the first song on that first album.
They had not played it live since 2017 because it is an intro song and they are introducing themselves by name, but they couldn't use it with just two official members and the original third member Yuimetal didn't appear at all after October 2017 and officially announced she was leaving the band in October 2018.
This performance was on 2nd April 2023 - the first concert with Momometal as an official member, so 'BABYMETAL Death' was back ... I don't know if you heard the crowd cheer particularly loudly when she introduced herself as "Momometal desu".
The whole song is based on a pun. The English word death sounds to a Japanese speaker like the Japanese word desu (the U is silent) spoken with a slight lisp.
Desu means to be - as in I am, we are, it is etc. Basically the lyrics for this song are: "B_A_B_Y_M_E_T_A_L" ... "I am Su-metal", "I am Moametal", "I am Momometal" "We are BABYMETAL" ... "Death Death Death Death Death Death Death Death".
You may want to see the 'Legend 1997' performance where they were celebrating Su-metal's 16th birthday in December 2013. That one was a really special performance.
Being an introduction song they would normally play it right at the start of the concerts (it is a great way to get the crowd hyped and joining in straight away), but that was one of the special occasions where they played it later in the show - for that one it was the finale.

Great reaction, thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL.
You already have a ton of literature explaining basically everything so, I don't want to bother you by repeating the same. I just wanted to remark what you need to know right now: they are better live (as a general rule for the videos on their channel, if the word "live" is not in the tittle, that's not a live version). They are very diverse musically since they like to mix any music genre with metal. So, always expect the unexpected. 😁
    Enjoy your BABYMETAL journey!

"I wish I knew what they were saying..."
    Dude...the entire Arena is chanting...."D E A T H"!!!
(but its not an evil death they call for but rather the path to a rebirth - and its not actually Death at all but rather a play on the Japanese word Desu which means 'I am', 'We are', etc.. its Lore stuff..LoL)
And yes, they were spelling out "B A B Y M E T A L" followed by the chant "DEATH DEATH DEATH DEATH"!!! LoL!!
AND....yes this is probably the same group you saw 10 years ago...that you hated!!..LoL!! Their song "Gimme Chocolate" went viral back in 2014 (one of their most 'poppy' songs) and that is what most Westerners saw...and many, like you, wrote them off. But for those of us who chose to look under the hood....Found one of the most Fantastic Bands in the World!! Hell, they even have the #1 Album in the USA on Billboards "Top Rock Album" chart back in 2019....so you missed out on a Decade of Great Music!
But now you have found them again and you get a second chance to see just how Deep the Fox Hole goes!! Don't waste this chance!!
    More Babymetal Always!!
For my suggestion..lets go back to 3 months AFTER that "Gimme Chocolate" video you hated..to the Famous Budokan and Babymetal's performance of "Rondo of Nightmare" with the Mischiefs of God Intro. Shows you the younger group (but its just a Su-metal solo) with their band - The 'Kami' Band.

Ha, ha! That was definitely Babymetal you saw all those years ago, dude! They've been around for 14 years already. They just aren't quite what you thought they were. And no, it's not as easy as saying that they were cute and poppy in the past, and hard and heavy today (although they have toned down the cutesy stuff a bit as they've grown older). This song is literally the first track off of their first album, all those years ago. It's complicated. But just like you guessed, this song is generally used as an opener at their concerts. The lyrics are just them introducing themselves, making a pun of the fact that the Japanese for "I am/we are" _(desu),_ sounds a bit like the English word _death._ Hence _Babymetal desu_ (we are Babymetal) = _Babymetal death._
You should definitely stick with them for a while, and see what they have to offer. Many songs do combine the heavy metal with more lighthearted and poppy vocals, but don't make the mistake of dismissing it as a gimmick. The music is seriously good, and Su can _sing._ Personally I prefer their older stuff, but I suspect you might be a bit more comfortable with the latest album. Maybe try songs like Mirror mirror, Metalizm, Monochrome or Divine attack. And the general rule with Babymetal is to pick live performances over music videos (unless explicitly recommended otherwise), as that is where they truly shine.

There are two things nobody ever expects:
    1. The Spanish Inquisition
    2. Babymetal (or what they will do next. You cannot predict it).
Welcome to the wonderful world of happy metal that is BABYMETAL! 🤘🦊🤘
Babymetal Death is simply three sweet young ladies introducing themselves to the audience while getting a warm-up before the rest of the show.
The backing band are session musicians who support them at live shows. They are called the Kami Band (Kami meaning god or spirit) The original Kamis were some of the finest musicians in Japan. There is now a Western Kami Band composed of American musicians, mostly members of the Star Wars themed metal band, Galactic Empire (who you saw in this video hidden by the metal masks).
The Foxhole runs long and deep despite their short 14 year career and BABYMETAL as young teenagers were the trailblazers that opened up the international market for all those other Japanese girl bands you mentioned (and those bands will acknowledge it).

Judging BABYMETAL by a few songs is difficult, because they cover such a wide range. What you have just seen is just as much a part of their catalogue as what you have probably seen ten years ago. So if you expect them to sound like this now, you are probably going to be disappointed. Their sound has matured, but not changed completely. The cute elements have been toned down, but they are not gone. They aren't any more "vanilla" Metal than they have ever been.
Mind you, I'm not trying to turn you off. They are still the most entertaining band ever, and I have never loved any band more than I love them. But most people who didn't like them ten years ago are unlikely to like them now. But don't take my word, please try for yourself. "Monochrome" or "Divine Attack" may be a good start to dip into their more recent songs, but as I said, it's just one of many facets to their sound.

The clip you saw ten years ago that you disliked probably was them. It was probably Gimme Chocolate! Their songs range wildly from poppier to heavier and every genre in between, they were obviously also much younger ten years ago (they started at age 12) so their voices have also changed in that time.
This song BABYMETAL DEATH debuted in 2012 and was the opening track on their first album released in 2014, it is usually used as the opener on tour with more elaborate performances like this one at their bigger arena shows.
I do hope you check out some more from BABYMETAL, but I warn you not every song goes as hard as this. Especially their earlier songs are a lot more poppy with their young voices.
If I were to curate some songs to ease you in they would probably be some of their more recent performances 🦊🤘

If you like clean vocals and great music, BabyMetal is a band you will enjoy, but if you only like harsh, scremo vocals, maybe not . I am an old metalhead fan of Judas Priest Iron Maiden and other early Metal/Rock bands . i got sick of hearing harsh scremo type vocals all the time in later years of metal and lost interest in the metal scene . Heard BabyMetal years ago, probably the same time as you . Luckily, i checked a few more songs out and loved them being a fan ever since they got me back into metal again .
They get a lot of hate from Metal Elitists at the begaining and still do, but not as much . If you have people like Rob Halford perform on stage with you and tour with RHCP, Korn , Guns and Roses, and Judas Priest and count Cory Taylor and Rob Zombie among your fans i think i take their opinions over any Elitist this what metal should be opinions.
Surrgest you try something of their 4th album like Divine Attack or Mirror Mirror and definitely live. That is where they shine 😁 wil you venture into the foxhole ? Only the foxgod knows 🤣😁🤘🏼🦊🤘🏼

Welcome & Thanks from Japan 有難う💛。 This exciting opening song was performed 3 times this year in USA (San Francisco x2 + Las Vegas) and American crowd also got hyped like you saw in this video.
BABYMETAL is the best musical phenomenon I have ever experienced in my 68-year-long life. (Before BM, I was a stubborn jazz / funk lover) We say "Japan is the country obsessed by Rock Music". The history is very long and the obsession started in 1966 when Beatles visited Japan and held 5 concerts at Budokan. Speaking of hard rock / heavy metal music, a number of bands started to come to Japan since as early as 1970s : Led Zeppelin / Grand Funk Railroad (1971), Deep Purple (1972), Queen (1975), Kiss (1977), Cheap Trick / Van Halen / Scorpions (1978), Judas Priest (1978/79) and so on. Now, any type of rock can be enjoyed here, especially by many all-female or women-fronted bands. They are daughters of American / European rock, for sure. (Many are grand-daughters in terms of age.)
Uh-oh, we also say "Japan is the country obsessed by Jazz". It had started earlier than rock 😄

Subbing to see you react to more. They are so good it's crazy. If you want to start early in their career, maybe try Megitsune (not live, just because live spoils the sick breakdown the first time you ever hear it), but absolutely anything else PREFER live. Road of Resistance, Headbanger are good bets for early Babymetal. If you want to start more modern day, Metali is a good one, or the collab they did with Bring Me The Horizon, called Kingslayer. I've seen people work both forward, backward or any order really, but it's all fantastic.

  • @Ganimal83
    @Ganimal83 Месяц назад +16

Haha great reaction and welcome to Babymetal. I am willing to bet the first time you saw them was definitely Babymetal. They started in 2010 at age 12/11, and this performance was in Apr 2023 in their mid-20s. They've grown as people, but also in music. Babymetal's music is so varied, they will have goofy songs leaning heavier into pop about girls wanting chocolate (most likely the early video clip you saw) to something so prog-metal that Mike Portnoy himself gave them their thumbs up.
    *Understanding the Lyrics:*
    Desu (silent "u") = I am / We are
Babymetal Desu = "We are Babymetal"
    Su-metal Desu = "I am Su-metal" (lead vocalist).
But this is metal, so BABYMETAL DEATH!! They love a good pun.
Even their name is a play on words (in Japanese):
    Heavy metal: ヘビーメタル (Hebīmetaru)
    Babymetal: ベビーメタル (Bebīmetaru)
Thus, this song is literally the girls introducing themselves, hence their staple show opener for over a decade. So, don't worry, no goats were sacrificed 🤣. #notacult
Here are a few suggestions to give you their "signature" sound:
*Road of Resistance (Official Live):* One of their most anthemic and epic show closers (almost a decade now). This is from a Jan 2015 show. This song was a collab with Dragonforce. Herman Li and Sam Totman co-wrote guitars and played on the studio verison.
*Headbanger (Legend 1997):* This is a quintessential Babymetal classic. Show is a Dec 2013 show celebrating lead Su-metal's 16th birthday.
*Monochrome (Pia Arena MM):* More of a hard rock song that is very melodic, emotional, with heavy metal elements and an amazing crowd engagement section. Same show BABYMETAL DEATH from this reaction (Apr 2023).
*Metali (Official Live):* A fun and energetic festival song to get the audience riled up. Features Tom Morello doing his thing on guitar solos.
*Megitsune (Pia Arena MM):* Another classic Babymetal song and a fan favorite. Performed well over 340+ times to date since 2013.
**Notice that many fans will suggest live, since Babymetal is actually better live vs studio, as they are 100% a live performance act, and that's their natural habitat. Their MVs are cool too, but will never hit as hard as their live. Besides there are only ~12 MVs out of 60+ on discography.
Look forward to more Babymetal! 🤘🦊

Good reaction! 🤘🦊🤘 Thank you for giving BABYMETAL a chance!!! BABYMETAL is a Japanese kawaii (cute) metal group (a metal subgenre that they created) that formed in 2010 when the 3 girls were 11-12 years old (yes, they were very young), and since then have performed with, toured with, or opened for Metallica, Korn, Sabaton, Bring Me The Horizon, Dragonforce, Guns N' Roses, Lady Gaga, Rob Halford of Judas Priest (there's a great youtube video of their performance with Rob at a metal award show), and Red Hot Chili Peppers (there is a youtube video of them performing Gimme Chocolate with RHCP, as well as with Korn, and DragonForce), to name a few of many. They have performed at large metal events/concerts in front of 65,000+ skeptical metalheads in Europe (Download, Sonisphere, Glastonbury, etc), US, and Asia. They are the first Japanese band to perform at Wembley arena in the UK. Also, 20+ awards have been given to them. They have 60+ songs and each one is different from the other, so I hope you give the other songs a try. By the way, they have some really great heavy songs too, and I hope you like guitar solos, as well as bass and drum solos, like I do, because they have them too. Also, they released a new amazing album last year and they just finished a world tour where they had many shows here in the US. They also recently released a new music video for their song called "Metali" that features Rage Against The Machine's Tom Morello. 🤘🦊🤘

Headbangeeer!!! Live at Legend 1997 (2013) This is the live version of the original at Su-metal's sweet 16 celebration.

For me, this is their best era, when they were, “Baby” and Metal. (they have many interesting and headbanger songs ) Now is more like POP with elements of Metal, and not babies anymore. This song IS precisely from that era of BabyMetal, but the performance is actual. By the way, you reacted to this version, but there’s a more creepier and theatrical one, I really recommend that one to see on you own time or if you want to react to that version and share it, that’s great with me. Apropos poppy. It might have been Babymetal you saw several years ago. A bit depending on what song you listen to, it can be a bit poppy. The girls do not growl. They have higher pitch voices, even though Su, the main vocal, is a bit lower than common for Japanese women. The band is hard though. Very hard. In the earliest performances is was a fake band with skeleton masks. Later it has ben mostly the Kami Band. In the beginning they were white painted and in white robes. But, around 2019 or so they started to wear masks. I liked the white paint better, but the masks makes it possible to do a trick - have different musicians when out on tour, depending on where they play. I saw them in Stockholm and they had huge hairy arms. Did not look Japanese at all 😃

I'm sure someone has mentioned it already, but you really need to check out Kagerou Live with Kami Band Intro, it's imo their best track ever.

as an old-school metalhead myself, i'd point you to _Road of Resistance_ (co-written with Herman Li of Dragonforce) , _Headbanger_ , and, ngl, _Monochrome_ (either the OMV or the live version , *_and then_* you might check out the piano version ... in all cases, just make sure to have the CC turned on).
I assume that the thing you saw 10+years ago was _Gimme Chocolate_ .... it's a lot of fun once you get properly initiated , as is _Catch Me if You Can_ 😂 (and then for _super_ ironic fun, _Doki Doki Morning_ 🤣)
and at some point, you have to see the "Legend 1997" live version of _Babymetal Death_ ... Most.Metal.Thing.EVAR.
they also have loads of poppy stuff, to try to get as wide of an appeal as possible, and also still trying to figure out this brand new genre that they just invented ("Kawaii Metal").
others will be more than happy to flood you with all the history and lore.

“Always a brides maid!” For non-Americans that means, I’m always late to the party. Everything has been said above, or below except they are still my favorite band, and I listen to a ton of heavy music. Very diverse and talented women. I’ve seen them multiple times in the US and Japan. You can never go wrong with this group. ❤️🦊

Hahahaha! "Did Satan just come out of her"? Lol No, but SuMetal came out of her. Babymetal Death basically is the death of their Jpop formal selves to be reborn into SuMetal, MoaMetal and MomoMetal of BabyMetal. If you notice the crowd cheering louder when MomoMetal introduces herself (MomoMetal Desu) it's because she was formally introduced as the offical third member after YuiMetal left in 2017 (formally announced in 2018) it had been six years before a third member was announced. After Yui left they did not play this song again until MomoMetal, which you are witnessing in this performance. There is ofcourse some details I'm leaving out but in a nutshell, this is my short explanation. Welcome to the Foxhole!
Watch Babymetal Death from 2013, Legend 1997 (the year SuMetal was born) concert. The Yui Era when they were still tweens. Epic!
Delve deep into the Foxhole and discover the original Kami band, three little girls who changed the face of metal, their Sakura Gakuin days, the Fox God, The One, thier constant message of always overcoming obsticals of whatever life throws at you, etc, etc, etc.... obsess and enjoy the beauty of BabyMetal. You might even realize Why we call SuMetal, The Queen.

Yep ... Legend 1997 has a good version of Death. They are not sacrificing a black goat though, instead they are sacrificing their lead singer. That's even more metal.

OMG! Watching the expressions on your face as "Death" unfurled in front of you was as they say worth the price of admission. This is a kind of wild song to start out with but that said seems like you enjoyed yourself. The band you saw all those years ago very well could have been Babymetal as they've been performing since 2010. And yeah it is a long, complicated, incredible story. Based on everything you said I'm going to recommend another performance from this show. It's another of their early classics but with all the chunky, junk you got here plus actual lyrics. You'll love it I'm sure. "Road of Resistance": ruclips.net/video/XpGRYhY897E/видео.html

Great reaction! Now i recommend you react to 'The Legend '.
Ok, maybe not that one. That might be going a little too far the other way. 🤣
Babymetal is a fusion, now more of a blend, of Japanese pop and metal. It can get a little weird sometimes, in a very good way, so be prepared. It's awesome and it's highly addictive.

I'm willing to bet you have heard Babymetal before. Quite a few years ago, their song "Gimme Chocolate" went pretty viral and a lot of metal fans had a less than good reaction to it. Tbh, that song (as well as this one you just reacted to) aren't the best songs for a first time reaction to Babymetal. Personally, I usually recommend someone watch "Road of Resistance - Live in Japan" as a first Babymetal song to react to. Other commenters have also recommended some amazing songs by them, so you can't lose with any of the other recommendations by them. Just keep in mind that Babymetal is actually NOT what I would call heavy. In fact, most of their songs are very positive. They pioneered a new genre of metal most call "kawaii metal" or "cute metal". They don't stick to one genre, though, and are VERY experimental. Just keep an open mind when you react to their music and just enjoy the experience! Welcome to the Fox Hole! 🦊🤘

According to your taste I would guesd Songs like Distortion or Maya might fit but otherwisecI would say no. They are more destinedcforvMicxes you might try some of theirvCollabs like Kingslayercwith Bring me zhe Horizont or "Leave it all behind" with F. Hero and Bodyslam. Zhey are simply bigger. They are the International most succesful japanese Band. Their fans are to 40% female and all ages between 5 and 85.. Since they are much langer than Babd Maid they don't care of they are sble to fill 6000 seltsam within 4 days that is enough for them.

It most likely IS exactly that metal dance unit you listened to 10 years before🤣 I assume you listened to "Gimme Chocolate!!", which went viral around 2013. That one is indeed very poppy, but it is quite heavy, too.
Before you dive deeper into their work of the last 14 years (!), you should try out the version of "BABYMETAL Death" with an actual sacrifice 😉 Some people here already recommended it: "BABYMETAL Death - Legend 1997 Apocalypse" (The "Legend" thing is the concert title), which is the exact same concert at which "Gimme Chocolate!!" (the version that went viral) was performed.
I really, really would like to see your reaction to this. You´ll have your mind BLOWN, I promise! No, there´s no pop in that version, it´s even more heavy than the version you used for this reaction. No joke, they did this song even heavier when they were much younger! You will love it! Every aspiring Death metal band would kill to be put in the position to do a show of such quality in front of about 9000 people, if I remember the number correctly.

The are just sayin - hello we are Babymetal. Hi, I am Moa. Hi, I am Su. Hi I am Momoka. They are just presenting themselves, before the actual show begins.
The secret is that Des in Japanese means "I am" or "We are". And Des sounds a bit like Death for a Japanese. So, "Babymetal Death" means "We are Babymetal".
And when the crowd chants "death death death death ..." they really are chanting "they are, they are, they are ..."
You are right thought that they are spelling to BABYMETAL twice.

The funny thing is that you probably saw Gimme Chocolate back all those years ago, which is a poppy song, and this song was on the same album. They play with lots of different genres and you never know what you will get next. This was a concert opener and introduction song, playing on the fact that the Japanese word for "I am" is Desu, which sounds like Death.
My recommendation for a good watch would be Road of Resistance from PIA Arena 2023, there is a good version with English subs out there, and it's an old song but is kind of their anthem: ruclips.net/video/XpGRYhY897E/видео.html

I learned my lesson about that.. I saw GC when it came out, was confused but fascinated, but I didn't do a deep dive, figuring it to just be a fun gimmick. Whoops!!
Circle back to late 2022 when I rediscovered them, blew through their entire history, story, and material, then saw them with my wife back to back in Houston and Dallas last year and they're one of my top 3 favorite bands now 😂❤

No, it is their default starter. The reason behind it is that zhey use by Default Stage Persona. Then you have to know that they sing in japanese , so death is in fact desu ( to be) so what they sing is ("I am Su-Metal" .. "We are Babymetal").
By the way #notacult. But they crucify only at certain dates, like the 16th birthday of their lead singer.
