My wife, two of our friends, and I traveled to Japan earlier this year to see Nemophila at Budokan, BAND-MAID at Zepp Yokohama, and to see Babymetal twice at Yokohama Arena. All three shows were great, but Babymetal is such a different experience than any other concert I've been to. The sense of unity among the fans, how physical and exhausting it was, how surprisingly-emotional it was, the size and scope of it all . . . it was great.

Yes, I believe that visiting a Babymetal concert in Japan is among the heaviest thing you can do. The audience is nuts and large. They know all coreo. And there is even mosh pits. Orderly circular mosh pits, but anyhow. Mosh pits in Japan is not common.

I have a personal anecdote .. I'm 47, my wife and I saw Babymetal twice in Texas last year and they blew my mind! Even being in their mid 20s now they seemed to have even MORE energy on stage! Their stege presence and confidence is something I could almost physically feel .. Su's voice live pushed into my chest!
The amount of personal crowd interaction also was wild! In Dallas we were VERY close to the stage and got direct smiles and waves.
They are truly a force to be reckoned with!!
They make me laugh and smile and feel young again! Their relentless energy is infectious and their positive messaging in their songs is inspirational to me!

I'm one of the last years of Gen-X, and have adult kids of my own now. Babymetal is one of my new favorites, they bring the energy and their music also puts me in a good and positive mood. Babymetal are infectious. There is no resisting their charm. Keep in mind that when they did this performance, Su-metal the lead vocalist had just turned 16, and Yuimetal (on the left) and Moametal (on the right) were 14.
You're right about Kobametal, but the Kami band aren't involved in the song writing, they don't even play on the studio albums; they only perform at the live shows. Babymetal have a team of writers who work with Kobametal to create the songs.
Yui's last performance was at the Big Fox Festival in October 2017. However, her formal departure from Babymetal wasn't announced until October 2018.
Babymetal shows are pretty rowdy by Japanese standards, but still very friendly. It's worth noting that they only do these massive stadium spectaculars in Japan. When they go on tour the show gets scaled down for portability.
Babymetal's fanbase is right across the spectrum. When you go to a Babymetal show you will see everything from little kids with their parents, through to retired people. I go to their shows in Japan regularly and I know people from America, the UK, Ireland, Finland, Germany, France, Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Colombia. Babymetal fans are all ages and from all corners of the world.

For a recommendation. 'Monochrome' live at PIA Arena, without a doubt. That's a more recent performance, so your context of them will not be limited to just their early days.
The odd and facinating think about Babymetal is they are dynamically oppositional, yet very grounded and traditional at the same time. They are kawaii, but their entire last album was not. They are an idol group, but they're also not really like one at all. They are theatrical but they do more non-theatrical gigs. They can be fun and goofy, or cooly enigmatic within the space of a few minuites. Organised chaos is a great term to decribe them.
You haven't got Babymetal truly figured out until you get to see all sides of them. They have at least 10 different sides to them, and all are the real Babymetal.

Japanese audiences are indeed generally very reserved and respectful. But that's where the two "screamers" come in. Moa and Yui act as animators for the audience they give them cues when to jump, put their fist in the air or chant. Since Babymetal encourages the audience to be a part of the show, they do so because that is the respectful thing to do. Also you don't want to stand out. If the person on stage tells you to jump and everyone around you jumps, you're also gonna wanna jump to not be ostracized.

The older stuff, especially, is as much about the visual component as the musical one. Their last album, tho, I can listen front to back without even missing the visuals. It's all good, but you'll def see how much they've evolved and improved over the years. And Japanese BabyMetal crowds are the best. Also a vocal coach pointed out on a reaction to them the Su never seems to cut notes short. She holds them out even while doing the choreography. An amazing feat in itself. Welcome to the Foxhole or just another way to say BabyMetal journey.🦊🤘🔥
Nice you got this suggestion to start with this journey and definitely you need to check it out a couple of more of songs to get what BM is all about before watching RATATATA but regardless you're about to get into a wild journey.
Cool you did some research but here's some basic info about them:
BabyMetal is a Japanese metal dance unit created in 2010 under another Jpop/Jrock group called Sakura Gakuin, they had 11 and 12 years old when started this and become independent after 2013, they created their own genre called kawaii-metal (kawaii means cute) mixing Jpop with metal sound and different subgenres along with many more rhythms. Their name is a reference to a new genre and not related to their ages or "baby" faces, is a pun intended play on words with "heavy-metal" which sounds similar to "baby-metal".
    They are:
    *SuMetal* lead vocalist, now 26.
*MoaMetal* scream and dance, now 25.
-YuiMetal- scream and dance, former member since 2018 (last performance was in 2017).
*MomoMetal* scream and dance, she's 21 and is the new official member since April 1st last year.
    None of them are related.
After 2018 you'll see backup dancers performing but none of them are official members, they don't sing, only dance, but remember that status changed last year.
    About this song:
This is one of fans favorite BM song and it was part of the World Tour 2023/2024, everyone love it and were having a blast with the girls headbanging real hard in the middle section instead of the usual bowing down on their knees or having fun with the cryo smoke gun. They did it last month in some of the Europe Tour shows, and hopefully it'll stay part of the setlist in upcoming tour.
Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! is one of BM fans favorite and got special meaning too. Song is about a 15 years old girl celebrating her birthday going to her first live concert, probably metal, while having melancholy for leaving her childhood behind.
Isn't about any of our girls but they embraced this song like it was made for them, you'll find many special versions of this, even when they celebrate their 20th Birthday.
15 is an important coming of age for Japanese girls, 20 is another important date.
You'll find many more special versions celebrating their birthday, such recently last month when the new official member MomoMetal did it at Legend MM, Yokohama Arena celebrating her "20 Night", we called it "MomoBanger", and the day after her "21 Night" with another different song.
This was at Legend 1997 (that's the title of this live concert referring to SuMetal birthyear) in 2013 celebrating SuMetal 16th Birthday, and the whole concert was special, if you want to know the rest of the songs finishing this, those are:
    - "Akatsuki" Unfinished Version, a beautiful SuMetal solo version with only a piano behind, the original song is a power/speed metal balad
    - "Babymetal Death", be ready for this insane ending,
Legend 1997 was an special live concert, and along with Legend 1999 celebrating Yui and MoaMetal birthday are tied together to represent the commitment of these girls with this group, a new rebirth.
The live concert and also this song got plenty of tributes to the greatest metal bands, like Metallica and X-Japan, specially Yoshiki, the gong at the end is one of those, you'll find more and plenty of this to add to their lore. The statue behind is SuMetal resemblance and is a tribute to Metallica's Lady Justice.
The official MV is also creepy for some fans, I guess the organ gave that effect, you'll also see the neckbrace there for the first time which is a tribute to Yoshiki from X-Japan.
Another thing that you don't see so much here in their live performance is, when YuiMetal and MoaMetal are having fun with cryo or smoke gun, the choreography on this part is with them down on their knees and doing the "dogeza hedoban" which is like bowing down back and forth summoning the metal spirit represented by the neckbrace while SuMetal is standing with the mic stick rise up and her relentless death stare, that's another moment we called -NotACult- 👀
The Kami Band here are insane set of elite musicians who were send to help with the metal sound, "kami" means roughly "god", they're wearing burial white robes and corpse face paint to represent those spiritual entities.
They rotate so probably you won't see some of them in all live concerts (especially the guitarrists).
    They are:
    - Míkio Fujioka, god of guitar, a beloved member, sadly he passed away in 2018. (R.I.P.), he's the one doing that sick solo.
    - Leda Cygnus, god of guitar, he's the only Kami Band member who's credited as a session musician when recording some albums tracks.
    - BOH, god of bass, he's the bald one and not only got amazing talent but her fun way to enjoy reminds me Flea from RHCP. You can see at the end (when SuMetal is crawling upstairs) his head got written "Happy Birthday".
    - Hideki Aoyama,, god of drums, he comes from a family of expert drummers, and his father was very famous in Japanese music scene.
During recent World Tour 2023/2024 they got another complete different set of musicians, we called them Western Kami Band, they've been playing with them since 2019, so the Kami Band musicians aren't official members and the girls are the only front women of this group.
I'm gonna leave in my next comment where to get more proshot clips safe to react if YT allows me to do it. Meanwhile next suggestion:
    - *Road Of Resistance* live in Japan official MV (2015).
They were at Download Festival 2015 (DragonForce invitation), 2016, 2018 and this year with unfortunate bad weather and short setlist due to it. Also Sonisphere 2014 for the first time in Europe and making a lot of UK fans since then.
    See you next time.🦊🤘🔥

Here's the list of live performance clips usually safe to reacts without any filters so you won't need to rely on live compilations, there might be some exceptions:
      - Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! live at Legend 1997, SuMetal 16th Birthday in 2013, they got MV of this and is fun, but live is a blast.
      ruclips.net/video/LNFiDWJh2FA/видео.html
      - Akatsuki, live at Budokan 2014, this is a SuMetal solo.
      ruclips.net/video/g2372C5PJLM/видео.html
      - Megitsune, official MV is my first recommendation but is usually blocked if you don't put filters, so if you want live and safe to react, check it out Budokan 2014.
      ruclips.net/video/dU38CYkpBvI/видео.html
      - Akatsuki Unfinished Version, SuMetal solo again but with only a piano behind special performance at Legend 1997.
      ruclips.net/video/nwsinmxTxbo/видео.html
      - Babymetal Death, live at Legend 1997, this is the big finale, you're gonna blow your mind with this one.
      ruclips.net/video/jRc9dbgiBPI/видео.html
      - Catch Me If You Can with Kami Band intro live at Budokan 2014.
      ruclips.net/video/ng8U_j0gpLI/видео.html
      - Ijime, Dame, Zettai live at Sonisphere Festival 2014, sometimes the official live MV isn't so friendly so you know what to do.
      ruclips.net/video/Ro-_cbfdrYE/видео.html
      - Rondo Of Nightmare, with Mischiefs Of Metal Gods Intro live at Budokan 2014, another SuMetal solo but way different than usual happy songs.
      ruclips.net/video/8WBDiLMNZcE/видео.html
      - Doki Doki Morning, official MV, their very first song and MV full of kawaiiness, usually is safe to react so try it, if you want a live performance, this is the first proshot version with the Kami Band live at Legend 1999 (YuiMetal and MoaMetal 14th birthday).
      ruclips.net/video/BSjv9OYtWZ0/видео.html
      - Uki Uki Midnight, this one is a follow up to Doki Doki Morning but way different sound, this is the PV, is super fun but the sound isn't so great but at least is live.
      ruclips.net/video/Yj-UQIlqsIQ/видео.html
If you want better sound with the Kami Band, then live at Budokan 2014 it is.
      ruclips.net/video/ESzY9dL613Q/видео.html
      - Onedari Daisakusen, live at Legend 1997, this is a Black Babymetal song, is a subgroup with only YuiMetal and MoaMetal.
      ruclips.net/video/1dT1ywYR5So/видео.html
      - Iine! again official MV hits way better but if you want live, here live at Budokan 2014.
      ruclips.net/video/5sCvYVNeD0w/видео.html
      - Karate live at Download Festival 2016, "kitsune6001" got this with a short interview intro.
      ruclips.net/video/FKOL6v3Md2c/видео.html
      - Road Of Resistance live in Japan official live MV, be careful with the blocked by putting some filters just in case.
      ruclips.net/video/zTEYUFgLveY/видео.htmlsi=BsVOSExS25Qndy1H
      - Kimi To Anime Ga Mitai - Answer For Animation With You, live at Budokan 2014, not sure if it's still safe, so try some filters, if is audio blocked try to mute or just cut the parts.
      ruclips.net/video/M8FKumvh-w8/видео.html
Here's a song you can find at Babymetal Reactor Resource (BMRR), a helpful place to get watermarked logo clips of the original live version to curve the annoying algo.
      - GJ! live at Wembley Arena 2016, another Black Babymetal song.
      ruclips.net/video/Hg0Rylcg8F0/видео.html
This is BMRR short vid to follow instructions and get the spreadsheet with the full list.
      ruclips.net/video/q40VmTHSh4c/видео.html
And here's a BM guide (the long one).
      ruclips.net/video/aIb2xEthdSg/видео.htmlsi=EnEYU4nN3tuiY3WL
There's a beginners guide at "Briaghh" called "So... What is BabyMetal?" is more short and with some fair update until last year unlike the other one with full updates till this year.

Best way I could describe the fanbase is watching a grizzled 70 year old tattooed, bearded metal head headbanging vigorously at the show alongside a teenage girl in a BABYMETAL costume headbanging just as vigorously.
BABYMETAL is the gateway to both worlds from my perspective. I’ve seen my metal head friends start listening to Jpop/Kpop due to intrigue by BABYMETAL and same with my pop friends now listening to bands like Metallica (which the girls have stated on multiple occasions that they idolize Metallica)

That was a lovely reaction. Really appreciate the homework you did before reacting to this. This was a pleasure to watch, and you've got my sub. This is a classic Babymetal song that they regularly perform to this day. But now as young women the song too has matured and grown. You've also picked a great time to check out Babymetal as they've been releasing a slew live songs from the 2024 summer concert season. I'll leave a link to one I really like called "Syncopation". Crazy aren’t they!!! As you pointed out it’s a coming together of opposite ends of the spectrum and by rights it really really shouldn’t work, but somehow it does. I stumbled on a vid of them at Sonosphere in 2014 and watched as they managed to win over around sixty thousand metal heads who nearly all had no idea who BabyMetal were, it’s also probably fair to say that BabyMetal themselves didn’t quite know what they were getting themselves into as it was a late promotion from a small stage in a tent to the main stage! Their back story and how they’ve got where they are today (the Kami band thought it would be an easy job at first, then found out just how hard the girls worked) is fascinating.
Great reaction, definitely worth checking out more.

    *Before Babymetal:*
Internet: You will be forever entertained by a bunch of young Japanese teens girls doing cute metal.
Me: HAHAHA GTFO, you've gotta be sh**ting me, that will never happen!
    *After Babymetal:*
Me: HEADOBANG! HEADOBANG!! HEADOBANG!!!! [[ commences side to side headbanging ]]
    🤣
Hell yeah dude, welcome to Babymetal! Appreciate the fact that you are checking them out first before a collab, althought Ratatata/EC collab is a banger. Babymetal is such an amazing band and their music has such a wide variety of influences, I gaurantee you'll find a chunk of their discography that will end up in your daily playlist. One minor correction: The Kami Band isn't involved with the writing, composition, or arrangements, except for a few songs. That is done by Babymetal's long-standing, and very talented writers.
Also, as of Apr 2023, Kami West (4 Americans) are Babymetal's sole backing band. They have supported Babymetal along with Kami East since 2019, and they are amazing too.
This show was Dec 2013, and celebrated lead Su-metal's 16th birthday (you can see bassist Boh's head art of "happy birthday" when you paused on him). Babymetal are in their mid-20s now, so they have shed their "child-like" cutsiness for a more mature sound today, which some may like more.
    Other suggestions:
*Road of Resistance (Pia Arena MM 2023):* Epic power metal battle anthem. Herman Lie and Sam Totman of Dragonforce helped with the guitar parts of this song.
*YAVA! (Legend MM 2024):* Eclectic ska-metal song with an amazing Kami West intro.
*Rondo of Nightmare (Budokan 2014):* Dark, heavy, and ominous, and an amazing Su-metal solo, with an awesome Kami East intro.
*Metali!! (Legend MM 2024):* Fun and groovy festival song featuring Tom Morello on guitar solos, and another epic Kami West intro.
*Monochrome (Pia Arena MM):* One of Babymetal's best songs and performances in my opinion.
Look forward to more Babymetal!! 🤘🦊

Great first reaction and welcome to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊Well done whoever was voting for what you should hear first - 'Gimme Chocolate' is great fun at live shows, but it is very divisive and has been known to put metalheads off or even give a wrong impression if it was the first thing they heard.
If and when you do react to 'Gimme Chocolate' please make it a live performance and not the official video (that was a live performance but the audio was from the studio and the Kami Band were not there).
Good research, there is a chance I will repeat some of what you already found out, but I'll carry on anyway.
If you are interested in something original and unique BABYMETAL should be just the thing for you. They formed in 2010 creating their own new metal sub-genre. In the 14 years since then we have watched them grow up (they were aged 12 and 11 when they started) to become one of the very best live bands on the planet (not just my opinion, they have international awards that say the same thing).
They started as a fusion of Metal with J-Pop hooks, melodies and aesthetics including choreographed dance - but not as you know it. Their choreo is not used to titillate or distract like it is by most pop acts etc, it is interpretive, relating to the meaning of the song or a lyric - very handy for us non-Japanese speakers - but most importantly it is used to engage with, include and involve the audience. They are masters of crowd control and can get whole arenas (not just the front rows) jumping, chanting and joining in, following their lead.
As an old school rock and metalhead I had no interest in choreographed dance (and I still don't with any other artists), but BABYMETAL's choreo just enhances and improves everything ... I have no idea how, it just does.
    BABYMETAL are:
    Su-metal lead vocalist, now 26.
Moametal scream (ie backing vocals, harmonies leading crowd chants etc) and dance, recently turned 25.
Momometal scream and dance, she's 21 and became the official third member on April 1st last year.
The original third member was Yuimetal (scream and dance). She last appeared in October 2017 then missed the big shows for Su's 20th birthday in December under her doctor's advice. She was missing for the 2018 tour and in October 2018 she announced she was still not fully recovered and had decided to leave the band.
Su and Moa continued as a duo for the next 4 or 5 years supported by any one of 3 dancers (the Avengers) for live shows. After about March 2020 only one Avenger was still with them - that was Momoko Okazaki ... and on 1st April 2023 she was finally revealed as the new third member Momometal and got a mic so she can help Moa out with the backing vocals and so on.
They have about 70 songs, each one different to the last. Some are good hard metal (virtually every metal genre is covered) some lean towards their pop roots and they do everything in between as well as mixing and blending many more musical styles and genres with the metal. Their official videos are all very good and worth seeing (3 or 4 are almost essential viewing), but they are even better live.
The Kami Band first appeared in October 2012 and were phased in over the next 18 months playing a couple of festivals and the encores in a few shows until they became the full time support for all live shows from March 2014.
The Kami Band of the East are the very best session musicians to be found in Japan. There have been many members of the Kami Band but the main hard core of about 6 musicians played the vast majority of concerts until their last appearance (to date) in January 2023.
In 2019 the Kami Band of the West (American musicians) were introduced to support BABYMETAL on their increasingly lengthy foreign tours. They have been ever present for all shows since April 2023.
The Kami Band do not record the studio versions and do not write any of the music (there is one known exception with guitarist Leda Cygnus who wrote the guitar arrangements for one song and recorded bass and guitar for a few more).
Their audience - anybody and everybody, you will see them all at their concerts - all ages from 6 to 80, all musical tastes, all nationalities, all backgrounds ... and all having the best time of their lives.
I know you already have a lot of great suggestions for more songs, but I will add to those suggestions if you want to try them -

I've been a Babymetal fan for quite some time. Their journey from the start to now has been pretty impressive. I think the next Babymetal song you should listen to is Monochrome(PIA arena version is best). This is a newer song and will give you an idea of what Babymetal has become. It's also the first concert (i believe) after Momo became an official member of the group.

Their first album was released shortly after this show. I think their impact on music transcends their popularity. They are not "popular" because they don't get a lot of airplay; their music is far outside normal. But in Japan when concert tickets go on sale, they use a lottery as the demand far exceeds the availability. They could make a living touring Japan and Asia selling out arenas, instead they spend most of their time doing world tours at smaller venues. Hard to pin them down. One thing on their origin, the idea of Babymetal came to Koba after he saw Su perform in a j-pop group. He thought at a young age she had a powerful voice and unique stage presence that was limited by pop, and in metal she would not have limits. And he wanted to shake up the metal scene a little, and so Babymetal was born.

This was absolutely a joy to watch, thank you for the fantastic reaction.
Headbanger was played twice at this concert, this version is the ~11th or 12th song in the setlist, it was also played as the 1st song in the setlist with an operatic opening and a mix/house style. The entire concert (Legend 1997) start to finish is one of the most epic concerts I have ever seen, telling the story in old-school rock opera format of Su-Metal taking the path to become a heavy metal goddess. Every bit of it is a blast. It also features the song that first launched them to global viral awareness (gimme chocolate from this set), and a performance that will never be repeated by any band ever when they perform their song "death". I hope you keep checking them out live - it's always great - and if you do at some point check out this whole concert.

Great reaction, thanks and welcome to BABYMETAL.
Appreciate you did a little research because it's important to contextualize them to better understand what they do and why they do this way.
About the fan base demographics, you are totally right. They break all the barriers: gender, age, language, culture, race, religion, country... this is one of the great things about them.
Personally, I'm a lifelong metalhead, old-school, raised in the 80's. I discovered them like five years ago when I almost had lost all my interest in music after having being listening to the same bands over and over again for years. To me, they represent a breathe of fresh air for the genre.
About the song itself, "Headbanger" or more properly "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" or "ヘドバンギャー! !" (Hedobangyā!!) is about a girl who attends to her first metal concert on the night of her 15th birthday and that causes a great impact on her. That is the age of the end of the compulsory school in Japan so young people have to make some relevant decisions at that point. So, this is actually about coming on age and leaving the childhood behind with a hint of nostalgia.
Not a biographical theme because this is a pretty early song and Su-metal performed it for the first time when she was only 14.
This performance is impressive and not only because of the ladies and the Kami Band skills and precision (it's actually their thing) but also because of the crowd interaction. They are black belt in crowd control and that makes their live performances really amazing.
Let me suggest something newer (so, you can check how they look and sound now) and also something older, from 10 years ago and probably the most important moment in their career, being their first festival in the UK (common stage, during the daylight so, no crazy stage setup, no light show, no pyro, no smoke cannons, just the ladies and the band):
"Mirror Mirror" (Live at PIA Arena 2023): ruclips.net/video/DrNfDkP_Buk/видео.html

I needed 1.5 minutes to jump right in it, head first🤣 "Fanatic" might not be the right term to use on the Japanese crowd, "obsessed" matches better IMHO. And hell, they go NUTS like nobody else (you should watch Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!! live at Makuhari Messe 2023 in private, to see, what I mean!), but in such a freakin´ respectful way... they know exactly when to chime in without interrupting Su-Metal. And they love the girls/ladies with all of their heart, giving them the energy they need to endure the strenous set/choreography. Just like the girls/ladies love their crowds and give them all the energy they possibly can give (which is a lot!). Something VERY special! Like the style of music BABYMETAL do, which I absolutely love!

They were scared to death over this performance, did not know what would happen. And it started bad, the audience was not responsive. But after a while the audience got it and loved it. But I saw young ladies all dressed up just like BabyMetal. Middle-aged fans. White. Asian. Latino. Black. There were folks that you’d assume you’d see at a comic book convention more so than at a metal concert. I dare to say the age group I saw was from teens all the way to 50-years old+.
