Did you know BabyMetal is coming to Brazil for the first time next October 20 as part of the Knotfest Festival? 😱
Don't miss out this opportunity Jami, trust me.🦊🤘🔥

Welcome back to the Foxhole or BabyMetal's journey 🦊🤘🔥
Nice set of songs to follow your BM journey after your RATATATA reaction, it's been a while.
They already finished the Europe Tour and they did it once again along with Electric Callboy singing their collab song twice at Resurrection Fest in Spain. Road Of Resistance and Megitsune are classical hits they always love to play at their live shows.
BMTH did the same during this Europe Tour singing along with BM once again at Nova Rock Festival in Austria.
Gimme Chocolate!! is a nice song if you wanna check it out, so don't worry, we just prefer a live version with live sound instead of the official MV.
    Next suggestions:
    - *Karate* live at Download Festival 2016 or Pinkpop Festival 2024.
    - *Headbanger!!* live at Legend 1997 (2013)
    - *Catch Me If You Can* with Kami Band intro live at Budokan 2014.
    - *METALI!!* feat. Tom Morello live at NEX_FEST 2023.
Btw BMTH will be in Brazil next december and they will definitely play this song although, most likely, without BM on stage but at least it'll be a great chance to meet another cool band if you want.
Obrigado and keep enjoying more BM songs and see you next time.🦊🤘❤

To clarify, this person is talking about Road of Resistance - there's an official live video from one of their big 2015 shows. I agree that it's better than the 2023 version, especially for a first-time watch, but of course it wouldn't make sense to go back and watch that now that you already know the song 😄

ROR", "Megitsune" and "Kingslayer" were good choices and the reactions were great. I'm glad you became a fan.
Would you like to hear SU-METAL's falsetto? And since this song is one of the most difficult BABYMETAL songs with high pitch and half of the song is falsetto, I hope you will listen to it.
    Please listen to it. ruclips.net/video/DyDm5gpoDf0/видео.htmlsi=QId3AD2r3FxJlnWW

Great reaction and welcome (back) to the BABYMETAL Foxhole.🦊Excellent song choices too (but you can't go wrong with any BABYMETAL song, they have about 70 now, each one different to the last and absolutely no fillers).
'Road of Resistance' is a very positive song, it isn't the usual "resist the machine or the system etc" that we might expect from the title. It is about forging your own road even where a road doesn't already exist, not necessarily going the easy way or following the path already made by somebody else, so if the way you want to go has never been trodden you may have to get past the resistance of the undergrowth, obstacles, hurdles and things blocking your way etc to find your own way.
It could easily be used to describe BABYMETAL's own story - they could have followed the well trodden path of J-Pop and been very successful, but they chose to go with Metal ... but again they didn't just follow the same old format of every other metal band, they have done it their own way and it hasn't always been an easy route to follow.
'Megitsune' is their female empowerment anthem and it is a bit of a push back against the traditional subservient female role in Japanese society saying that is changing I think - or maybe it is - whilst also praising and celebrating the women who have played that role over the years for their strength.
They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings ("crying at heart, smiling at face") are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not deceptive kitsune (foxes), they are maiden-like megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong.
The melody used in the breakdown with the pig squeals in the middle of the song (they also use it as the intro when they play it live) is from the very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms).
When Su spoke a few words and pulled the tanto (short blade) out of her microphone she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss.
'Kingslayer' is another example of just how versatile they are and how they can collaborate with pretty much anybody and it will be great (just as they did with Electric Callboy for 'RATATATA' of course).
I'm sure you have a long list of suggestions for more BABYMETAL songs already ...go with any of them. The official videos are all very good, but live BABYMETAL is always better.

  • @joshuapownall2886

Welcome down the foxhole to the metal galaxy that is Babymetal. I would say the next three should be Iine (official MV) or Headbanger (Legend 1997), Karate (official MV), and the collab Leave It All Behind with F. Hero and Bodyslam
Then for a great triple combo, Monochrome (offical MV), the PIA Arena 2023 version, and the piano version from The First Take channel (in that order lol)
Whatever you decide to do, whichever song, live or music video, you wont be disappointed... You definitely need to make a separate Playlist for all of the epicness that is Babymetal.
And definitely checkout the "Babymetal Guide" videos, those will take you down the foxhole even further lol

Other suggestion is what referred to as the “trilogy of light” being Starlight, Shine and Arakadia. I can’t remember the name of the show but it was in 2019 in Murakari Messe that I recommend (though there is a chance it will be blocked so don’t be surprised if it’s a patreon only video)

@@majorasm00gle All of them are only on RUclips right now in the form of compilations that typically get blocked for reactors anyway. The trilogy doesn't get enough love specifically because of that. There is a possibility we get Starlight and Arkadia from Legend MM in about 9 days.

My most favorite song from Babymetal is the rendition of “No rain, No rainbow” in Hiroshima from the legend - S - Baptism XX in 2017 . SueMetal is from Hiroshima and she is almost in tears at the end of that balad rendition. Better than all the other version because of her emotion state in that particular song, location and time.

    chama.
yes, _Gimme Chocolate_ .... some people say not to start with that because the contrast in styles in that song is so sharp ; but to me, that has always been the most quintessential "babymetal" thing ever.
also, _Ijime, Dame, Zettai_ . (the Sonisphere version is quite popular -- that was the performance where they completely won over a notoriously tough UK crowd forever)

Quick tip for pronouncing Romanized Japanese: pronounce every vowel in it's basic form e.g. a (ah), e (eh), i (ee), o (like o in top) and u (like u in put). Similarly, consonant sounds will always be represented by their phonetic letter so G will never be pronounced J. This is confusing at first because English rules don't apply but it's actually much simpler to spell and read :) Great reaction! Thanks

Thanks again from Japan 有難う 💛。 Wow! You covered these 3 songs all at once ! 😲 OK. Three info from this 68-year-old Japanese fan.
① RoR : I witnessed this very performance at the venue. Whereas this anthemic and popular song has been played in almost all of BM shows since Nov.8, 2014, it took on a very special connotation on April 2, 2023. We had to celebrate the newly born BABYMETAL with Momometal who was inducted as the official 3rd member that day. So, the crowd's mosh pit and chant were more intense than that I had experienced before.
② Megitsune : In an interview Su-Metal said (1) This song is mixture of various elements ; very fast but smooth, hard but beautiful etc. (2) The tune and choreo have Japonesque flavor which may attract overseas fans. (3) This is her tuning song because it includes various factors for singing in a well-balanced manner. So she always sings Megitsune in rehearsal to confirm her vocal condition. Su actually said "in a sense, it is a song of criterion for me".
③ Kingslayer : I witnessed this song played live at a different venue from that in this MV. They played it 4 times together in Japan last year. At the end of 4th show and after joyful hugs with the girls, Oli said "We are never gonna play Kingslayer without them, ever again. Just not right." But there was no need to worry. In 2024 BMTH started to perform with 3 CG figures on the backdrop that look like the girls. And the two groups performed this song together again in Las Vegas on April 27. In Nova Rock, Austria, on June 16 as well.

Nice triple reaction! "Road of Resistance" always is/was a blast! 😄 The performance you watched is a very good example of "The One". That´s what the unity of the ladies, their backing band AND the crowd is called by them. Here, the crowd seems to entertain the ladies. Did you see Su-Metal´s, Moametal´s and Momometal´s super happy smiles? 😉 The song is from their second album "Metal Resistance", and Sam Totman and Herman Li of the Power Metal band "Dragonforce" lend their hands to the writing and recording of this song.
"Megitsune" is the essence of BABYMETAL. You can´t go wrong with any version of it (MV or live), and they regularly perform it to this day! I listened to it live last year and it still is a banger! 😄
"Kingslayer" is a hell of a collaboration, pure high energy!
jakemuller8626 gave you some very good recommendations already. Personally, I would love to watch a reaction to the song/performance that introduced me to BABYMETAL: "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!" from the "Legend 1997 Apocalypse" concert in 2013. For me this is the most impressive live performance of this song, although there is no "bad" live version of it, to the contrary 😄 There are lots of different live versions of it, and every version blows me away 😄

Great reaction, always good to just see pure joy on someone's face. I'll repeat the suggestion I made...over two years ago now? 😂 Their 2013 show 'Legend 1997' (that's the year the lead singer was born, it was her 16th birthday show) ended with three amazing performances, and it's a great watch if you want to see the range they possessed even that early on. The three songs are Headbanger, Akatsuki (Unfinished version), and Babymetal Death. I'll try to put links to good uploads in a reply comment so this one doesn't get blocked. Awesome triple reaction! Babymetal have been owning the stage since their start in 2010, and they are now 14-year industry veterans.
*Road of Resistance* has been a staple show closer (although not in this video) since late 2014 when the song debuted.
*Megitsune* has very deep lyrical meaning: The song strips away the traditionally derogatory meaning of "Megitsune" (vixen/female fox), labeling women as conniving/deceiving. Su-metal says that since ancient times, "women have always been actresses, crying at heart, smiling at face". However, with the march of time, "what it means to be an ideal woman is changing". She calls for all the ladies to "shoot up their fire works" and be their true selves, since they are "pure hearted female foxes". AND, "Maidens.... are not to be understimated! [[ _Pulls out tanto microphone knife_ ]]".
*Kingslayer* was made in 2020, and finally performed live together for the 1st time in Nov 2023, so everyone went wild at that show! BMTH and Babymetal have been friends since 2015 and supported one another on various tours/shows.
    Suggestions:
*Headbanger (Live at Legend 1997):* Another amazing early classic, this time performed at Su-metal's 16th birthday show in Dec 2013.
*iine! (Official MV):* 2nd song ever by Babymetal, and very much a "Ratatata" vibe, but faster and more adorable.
*Catch Me If You Can (Budokan 2014):* Slipknot, but cute.
*Metali (Official Live):* Newer song/performance, and a fun metal festival groove. Features guitarist Tom Morello of Rage Against the Machine doing his thing on guitar solos.
*Monochrome (Pia Arena MM 2023):* Heartfelt, melodic, and emotional. Amazing performance all around.
*Akatsuki (Budokan 2014):* Su-metal solo, and a "love ballad"...but Babymetal style 😆. Highlights her vocals even when she was only 16!
Look forward to more Babymetal! 🤘🦊

Thank you for your reaction. I am an old metal head that was bought up on deep purple, Nazareth, pink floyd but gave on metal when it all lacked the great musicianship and vocals of old; Babymetal changed this. Only the best musician (the kami band) back baby metal, and Su-metal is considered are really great vocalist. The Kami band are told to play as loud as they want - Su-metal will sing right through.
First note that "Babymetal" is a play on (Japanese) words and not their age. The word for "heavy" and "baby" sound almost identical in Japanese. It also represented a "new metal" when they started.
The spoken word in Megitsune was literal "If you disrespect me - it will be regrettable"; it comes from a Yakuza film. This is a song partly about misogyny in Japan with phases such as "all women are actors, smile on the outside, cry on the inside".
Babymetal are very big in the metal world and have played in all major stadia. They have a huge range of metal from ballad (monochrome : first take, no-rain no rainbow) through to heavy stuff like BMC (metal rap) or starlight, a eulogy to a band member that died and is really brutal presentation of pain of grief.
I strongly recommend live performances, Su-metal considers the music video are a starting point to develop the live vocals.
Head banger - any live, they are all "nuts". About a 15 year old girl becoming a head banger
Karate : (good music video to this one), about overcoming adversity including your own inner demons. "even if you are sad and fall down - practice and fight harder".
Monochrome PIA 2023 : The "monochrome firework" is the Hiroshima nuclear bomb, but the song is about seeing the "light in the darkness" - which is the phases Su-metal speaks in Japanese to the audience mid way through.
Monochrome : first take : this shows the extraordinary vocal power of Su-metal's voice as it is a piano version (look up what first take is).
Kagerou : meaning heat haze - used in this case for jealousy , the song is an onomatopoeia (very typical in japanese) on the word "sway"
Shine : the second song of 3 : the Eulogy trio to the death of Mikio the band member - the second stage of grief "acceptance and remembrance".
Starlight : the first song of 3 : the Eulogy trio, the first stage of grief, the pain of loss, very brutal and powerful and haunting vocals.
Rondo of nightmare with mischief of gods : Budokan black night - Su-metal was just 16 years old . Starts with solo music parts by the god tier musicians (the Kami band) followed by Su-metal on a high stage singing about being chased by an evil spirit through the woods until she succumbs to her fate. Just gob-smacking performance.
Onedari Daisakusen (Budokan 2021 Live) - for a great laugh : has subtitles - worth reading. This is part of "blackmetal" where the backing singers get to sing, in this case Moa only (long story). It is about how daughters "extort" money out of their fathers. (oh how I know).
Babymetal - From Dusk Till Dawn (Budokan 2021 Live) : no particular meaning.
Death : are you feeling brave ! This is a play on words again with "Desu" and "Death" sounding very similar . The first is a Japanese word with a silent "u" and mean "I am talking about myself". You are never quite sure in the song if they are saying "-metal-Desu" or -metal-Death. Baby metal is the only band that can get away with crucifying a teenage girl on stage.
Anyway - lots of things to choose from, you cannot go wrong, welcome to the fox hole - it is deep and never ending.

Love it! really cool performance! But what i really don't understand is the way the crowd is put into little boxes. I'm used to music festivals in the Netherlands like Defqon 1 and Intents festival where you can just roam around and stand and go wherever you want to go, and seeing those boxes and corridors make me not want to go :(. I would really like to see baby metal live sometimes though!

Babymetal can deliver a live show, not just the dancing, etc. but also singing and from that they can also deliver it on a small stage.
What is interesting, they can both show strength and adorable (Japanese kawaii culture) and it kind of breaks our brains at first, but also helps us create new connections in the brain. 🙂
If you are gonna do Gimme Choco, I would recommend their performance at The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. This is a small stage, single song performance.

The thing I absolutely love about this band is how they blended pop vocals and choreography with some of the heaviest riffs I'd heard in YEARS and it. just. works. And while most metal is meant to get you pumped and or channel your aggression, Babymetal is the only band that just makes me want to smile the entire time... and still be pumped about it.
    I love these girls.

Good song selections! You got to see where they are now, where they come from, and how well they play with other bands. Don't worry too much about understanding the lyrics, they purposely project the themes of the songs through the choreo, the vocals and their performances...one of the main reasons they do so well in the west is because they transcend language. Welcome to the fox hole!

I'm a middle aged man that grew up on heavy metal, and "I love them!" is absolutely the correct reaction to Babymetal. BTW it's "meh-git-soo-neh" it means something like "female fox" in Japanese. The fox is very closely tied with the band.

Give me Chocolate is the one that everyone should absolutely start with. You have been getting some terrible information. It's the song that got them noticed. Also, you were recommended the wrong live performance of Road of Resistance.

  • @mitchellhodgemeyer7306

It's good that you started with these tracks. Gimme Chocolate!! is cute and cool, but I never recommend that as a starting point because it doesn't really underscore the fact that BABYMETAL is a serious metal band, and people who have never seen them might get the wrong impression and write them off - which of course would be a huge mistake.
Because BABYMETAL is so musically diverse, I'm not sure what to recommend to you, although maybe I'd just recommend stuff off of their newest album for now, (which is titled The Other One), such as the song's "MAYA," or maybe, "Mirror Mirror," or maybe "Believing," which is a track sung entirely in English. Live clips of these tracks that come from the Blu-Ray of their recent tour are available on RUclips. You can get these clips by the way with English subs from a RUclips channel called "For The Fox God" if you're interested.
Anyway, enjoy your trip down the foxhole.

Every song babymetal does is a hit, choose any song you will like it. For an older song try the 1997 Legend concert videos of headbanger, baby metal death are great, anything from the Red or Black night concert in tokyo, if you want to jump to new, Shanti Shanti Shanti or metalizm

Go live versions. I would do Monochrome at PIA Arena 2023 next. It's phenomenal and quite beautiful. There is also a First Take version of this song, and it will bring you to tears. If you do them as a pair, I would do First Take, first then PIA arena. Shanti Shanti Shanti is an Indian theme. BxMxC live has rap. Look for the Budokan or PIA arena. Also Karate, they have a music video, but I prefer the live version.
Yuimetal left in 2018 and Momometal is scream and dance was named to the band in 2023. Su-Metal is the lead singer, and Moametal is scream and dance. Moa and Su are original BM. They have been around since 2010. Hope you enjoy and welcome to the Foxhole. The fox hand sign is there lore instead of the horn gesture. 🦊
