Well said Frankie. A lot of people see their favorite RUclipsrs as their friends. I think that feeling comes through strongly in content like what's in Junts cart. Just friends on an impromptu spree, joking and laughing together. What could be better?
That's how I feel. Well, I'm not insane so I don't actually think they're my friends, but in a different place at a different time...I definitely would have become friends with them.

I still go back to Double Vision only for Kyle. He built some of the sets too.
It always bothered me that they kept the version of the theme song for so long because Kyle sings pitchy. And he definitely got better in the newer songs.

On the note about JonTron: I honestly find it amazing to compare even his old material to the Screenwave Bames eea, because if you look in the credits of a lot of his stuff, you'll see he isn't the only writer!
He's said before that he'd sometimes sit and watch something with a friend, and be bouncing jokes off of each other.. Instead of Kieran sitting alone, writing jokes for James by himself
That's why James collaborating with other writers wasn't a bad idea, he just consostently made bad decisions to employ anyone from Screenwave to do it
Yeah, that's how the old Nerd episodes were made with Mike. People don't realize how much of a collaborative effort AVGN was from the getgo, with James and Mike bouncing ideas off each other, writing different parts of the script, etc.

His career seems to break all rules; he's had several notable controversies, he has an erratic schedule, his content has changed focus from games into something a lot more vaguely defined (infomercials?), but every time he uploads he gets millions of views very quickly. I don't really get it.

I won't mock James for the idea of starting a band, even though "a video game-themed band covering the best retro game tunes" seems rather overplayed. Going outside your comfort zone is a good thing. What makes the Rex Viper saga so funny to me is that they (or most likely James himself) approached it like a teenager who dreams big and gives up on the first roadblock. I feel like with some actual TIME and effort into it he could have a decent side gig going (if only for the novelty of having a band created by the Nerd himself), but why bother. I think that generally describes James's recent output well: "I have some ideas, but why bother trying".
Totally agree; to me its also the contrast to James's low effort on his other project (or in this case the only project which is AVGN) that makes Rex Viper egregious in comparison.
You guys talk a lot of sh*t for people, that far as I know, haven't done sh*t.
Also, Rex Viper is damn near the worst thing I've ever heard.

Ironically, James probably thinks that being in a band takes less time than "making" youtube videos.
His idea of having a band takes less time, yes. It's quite offensive for people who actually have a band. It's like the Frank Grimes episode on The Simpsons and James is Homer.
The backlash for your first rex viper video, dancingwithghosts, really showed me how some cinemassacre fans refused to accept any criticism. Some of the comments I remember reading were so livid just because you honestly reviewed something from their favourite RUclipsr, and didn't like it.
yeah a lot of their fans are very protective of James and refuse to be intellectually honest with themselves when having a debate.
I'm not a fan of musicians telling other musicians to put their instruments down because they aren't "good enough".
Which is what he did in that first video.

Singer needs to drop down at least five semitones. You can hear it especially on the first "concert" that he's got nodules on his vocal cords. That stuff ain't going away any time soon, especially not if he maxes out his voice like this all the time. He's gonna destroy them vocal cords permanently if he's not careful.
yep.. my singer has nodules currently and is taken pro-active measures to minimize them and conserve her voice whenever possible/warming up when appropriate.
I really like her voice Josh, sounds unique.

I'm glad you guys brought up Mike and Bootsy. Honestly, I miss James and Mike mondays. I definitely think that Mike made the show but the first thing that stuck out to me with Rex Viper was what Josh said about the mix. It was an absolute brick wall! Even being an amateur with audio it struck a wrong chord with me, but not a good one. (pun intended)
For some reason I love that video of Rex Viper playing live. It gives me the same nostalgia as watching videos of my old middle school garage rock band play 😂

Kyle Justin is a good musician, he wrote a really catchy song with just a few power chords and a great vocal melody. Technical ability over creativity is boring imo. There's no time to do a 5:40 long solo.

To me it's just clear that James is bored with doing something that is mostly locked into the viewpoint of angry 20 year old man. He's been doing nearly the same thing for almost 20 years now. It's pretty much Urkel - after awhile hates playing a stunted character but the money coming it makes them unable to say no.
At least Jaleel White got laid and seemed to at LEAST have fun with the role all throughout the show. James wants to stop doing this SO bad, but he doesn't really have a choice anymore, and it shows.

It is one thing to ammass a following doing a one man show where quality really doesnt matter as long as you care about the person and the content. Music is different because it has to be good or it is a novelty in my opinion. I dont think James cared much about being good or high quality which worked for him on youtube. It was good when he cared but became a novelty when it ran its course. The music seems like a novelty from the get go.
It sucks being a music artist and criticizing other musical acts, because their people will always come back to you. Maybe deservingly. Rex Viper is truly awful. If someone wants to go my channel and say I'm awful too, then fine, so be it. It is what it is. For the record, Dancing with Ghosts is NOT awful, his band is pretty damn good.

Got 4 new shows (3 awesome unboxings and a new BoxMac). But now with a booming second channel and with me (Frankie) being the only editor of non-EJ content, with a full time job and family, I am only human.

I used to be an atheist/agnostic and over the past couple years or so I've converted to creationism. I don't go to church though or follow any religions because I think they're controlled by the so called elites. What changed my mind was learning that evolution is a hoax, and that the Earth is mostly flat.
I learned that evolution is a hoax because great apes are all actors in fur suits and sometimes CGI, the channel 'RFTKOHIAH' has good videos on the topic if you're interested. I don't believe in the mainstream Gleason flat earth map though, the channel 'QNFee' has good videos that debunk both the Gleason map and the globe.

Firstly Rex viper sucks big time but I feel like this guy is a little butt hurt because he’s in a band that’s probably not that big and he sees James have the funding to just jump into music and find some success.
That's fair. Sometimes it does come off like: "Wow, his music is awful. Here's what REAL music sounds like (plays own band)"

lot of people give mike credit, but he was the whole reason why screenwave took over cinemassacre along with Bootsy getting screwed over, over petty online drama.

I think this video brings up one of the reasons Junt has such an appeal. He is so sincere. His enthusiasm and knowledge for church fairs and box macs is really something. It reminds me of early James or even modern James when he talks about movies he likes.
