My favorite part of Magic the gathering compared to most other tcg's out there is that nobody seems to really care for grading cards. All it does is promote scalping, and turning a fun enjoyable card game and turning it into a stock market. We already are having an issue where Wizards is not reprinting enough of the playable cards that their player base uses. All promoting grading is going to do is take these cards out of the hands of the players. It would cause the already INSANE cost for things like modern decks which are already upwards of thousands of dollars to go up even more as there would be less usable cards in the market. It is simple supply and demand. It WILL kill the game in the long term...
you mean that they keep rare cards rare in a TRADING card game? you do not deserve to have any card you want, nobody does. you have to trade for it or you do not get to have it, period. if you want to play monopoly, get a board game with all the pieces included. reprints shouldn't exist, ideally no 2 cards should be same
slabbing helped ruined magic. Just like turning it into a stock market did. If your in it for the money your not in it for magic. Sorry to break it to you guys. But just because you couldnt hack it in real markets doesnt mean you need to ruin a card game for everyone else.
true but also true that rarity is important in magic and anyone who plays meta is the enemy of the game, nobody should expect to have every card, it's trading card game, not just a card game. you're not supposed to see a rare card often
Grading is a placebo effect of value. If a card is already valued cause is rare and unique putting it in a hard case and having some random person say hey I think it’s a 10 on arbitrary scale that measures imperfections that no one would actually notice is silly. Yes if you have rare cards you like put them in hard case protect them and enjoy them! Display them! When your friends come visit show them off!
Never thought about it, but I've never seen anyone or store with graded magic the gathering card before. Only ever see Pokemon in those hard plastic sleaves.
Still wish you had the time to do the Friday morning stream, but like yourself, my full-time gig is IT, so I get it. Regardless, I appreciate your content and look forward to seeing your videos pop-up in my feed. Thank you. 🙇
Someone who has thousands of dollars of sealed product as his backdrop wants to take cards out of the hands of players and put it into the hands of investors. Wow, what a surprising take. People can collect cards without slabbing them, doubly so given grading collectables is well documented as a corrupt joke of an industry. Attitudes pushing playable game pieces into investment vehicles is what caused the sea of death threats to the Commander RC a few months ago, causes limited run Pokemon collectables to be overrun and scalped leaving actual collectors in the dust (See: Pikachu Van Gogh). You should reconsider your position.
lol hahahaha, so another "investor"?? Ive been collecting and playing mtg for nearly 20 years, own very expensive cards and every time I see somebody trying to sell a expensive card "graded" I just skip and look for the REAL version I can play, not something in plastic that holds no value for me. If I wants to play with a plastic box I better be playing with proxys. If you wants to grade them for your personal collection do whatever you wants, but not for the rest.
Absolutely, grading is huge with Pokemon and Sports. It makes sense that it will become prominent in MTG. I just sent off my first card for grading a confetti foil doubling season. It’s a great looking card and will look even more legit in a protective, nice slab. 🎉 Those saying grading will make MTG about money though. It’s been that way long before grading, since Alpha. I know people that sold collection and bought cars and houses. So that’s not a very good excuse. I see so many people double sleeving their cards too. Why you doing that, bc value, that’s why.
When you slab a Magic Card it stops being a Magic Card and starts a new life as an Amiibo.
I agree with most that this is a pretty bad take. Grading is a grift, if you want to collect, use top loaders or a binder. My opinion.

collectability = binders. slab does nothing

Hard pass. Go buy stocks, we're here to play cards.

Collectors ruin TCGS.
