Another thing about perfect fit-sleeving the cards before putting them into a binder is that there is a very subtle pattern on the pages. You can feel it when you run your finger on it, and I guess long exposure on an unsleeved card can potentially press into the surface and leave an almost unnoticeable pattern. I've remember purchasing a card from Italian Legends which was in a ridiculously high condition. It was gem mint from the front. But the back surface had some weird pattern when inspected under light. I thought that maybe it was a fake card, but it turns out that it was legit and it appears that it was likely stored in a premium binder for a while but without a sleeve.
Gotta be careful with elastic bands on binders as well. I have started to see some bends on cards on the first pages at the spot where the band goes over.
Great video! For a good trade binder i always recommend people the 'Ultimate Guard Zipfolio Xenoskin'. The binder is very very sturdy and closes with a zipper so that cards can't fall out no matter what. I can also just throw this binder in my bag and not worry about my cards getting harmed. 100% recommended!
Nice video! Only thing I'd add is don't over-pack the binders. I find many include more pages than their binding can actually support (prob so they can charge more for it), so I only fill the first 75% or so until the pages aren't sitting parallel.
Yup. I took a long time off from the hobby and when I came back to it one of the first things I did was re-binder most of my collection. However, one frustrating thing was discovering while some ringless binders have higher capacity than others, they don't widen the spines to compensate. This matters when the vast majority of good ringless binders have a capacity of 360 (20 pages) while some sets have more than 360 cards. The option is either wider pages or more pages if you want to fit the whole set in a binder. Both approaches have their drawbacks.
I hadn't thought about that (since I don't collect sets). But for those who do, sets now have soooo many cards due to all the variants. Crazy that you'd need multiple binders to collect a single set. Maybe a big D Ring binder with enough pages is better?
Haha I’ve been doing this stuff myself just logically thinking about it and people have been telling me I’m doing too much. Like the whole ring thing I knew that was a mistake with my first binder I got and then I started spending $80 to get big fancy binders before realizing I could get decent binders for about $20 without any rings, pages that sideload and enough pages for any single set. I’ve always sleeved everything in perfect fit sleeves for the most part
thanks for the advices, and made it fast and super funny :) it's a thing we can neglect, but yes, a collection can be worth a lot and still fragile Even with my cheap and small collection,(innistrad, midnight hunt and crimson vow, nearly all of it, and a lots of common cards from a lot of editions) it would be bad to loose 50 to 100$ of value, just because of bad storage. The portfolio with no ring binder at all looks like the safest option, for the most valuable ones

Ha glad that one of the greatest albums of all time caught your eye! 🤘🤘 When it comes to removing the card from the binder, you just gotta be gentle and patient. Having the cards sleeved in the binder will definitely help protect them as you take them out of the binder.
I keep all my tradable or expensive cards double sleeved, in toploaders, in a sideloaded GemLoader binder. Can't let anything bad happen to those puppies.
You keep calling pages sleeves. If it holds more than one card, specifically 9 12 18 or 24, its not a sleeve. its called a page. My cards are double sleeved in KMC and then go into a side-loading binder like the one you show, except i use Ultimate Guard Flexxfolio. @@MagicMetalMoney Many other inner sleeves are soldered together on 3 sides. KMC only on two, on the short side that is not open they are folded. So the card goes in all the way to the edge. I also like the consistency over many years. I bought KMC super orange outer sleeves 10 years apart, the new ones are identical to the 10+ year old ones, you can mix them and cannot tell them apart.
if you cannot afford a d ring binder you can all use the method i do. put the cards in the first slots 1-2 from the right to the left so basically no cards to be put into the ring slot area u lose 3 slots on each page but wont need to worry about ring damage

Hey man, i use a 4x3 12 pocket binder (ringless, with a zip made by vaultx). I heard some people say that keeping it vertically on a shelf might damage the cards, is that true?

@@magicthegatheringexplorations Roughly the same. Figure a stack of 100 cards is 2.5" and they're inside of vertical boxes but lying flat in them.
