For those who want to understand Mystic Knight. Dragon's Dogma

- Disclaimer - This is my opinion. Does not mean truth. Does not mean solid.
This video was made for a select few. These few players that tried Mystic Knight, and did not like it (for whatever reason) This is my attempt to help those players understand the vocation and to try Mystic Knight, with these easy tips.
This video is not for everyone. This video is for those who gave up on Mystic Knight, because they felt Mystic Knight was simply a Fighter that could Enchant.
Mystic Knight should be treated as Shield for the Primary weapon and Sword/Mace/Staff for the Secondary weapon. This simple approach fixes many problems that players have with Mystic Knight.
Another thing that happens is we get in the idea that Mystic Knight is a Fighter that can now Enchant our Weapons. This holds Mystic Knight's full potential back. We can easily fix this by carrying the Permanently Enchanted Weapons and switching, rather than applying the Element.
I don’t even play Dragon’s Dogma or know what a mystic knight is why did I find and watch this entire video
It's an awesome game. It provides absolute freedom to play how you want. I greatly recommend it

@@Nihil0.0 too bad that there are not more games like that
I bought Monster Hunter world but it feels like a regular game 😕
Dragon's Dogma hooked me since the beginning 😍
@@agentsmith9858 Here's how to make MHW a more fun game, don't play the meta. The same could be said for any game, but MHW has too much variety when it comes to builds for someone to run out of ideas in a day. Not only does the 70+ armors influence your style, so do the 100+ weapons and the 60~ monsters that you can fight. There's no one approach to tackling a monster, but most people seem to think that that's the case. Sure, you can run Crit LS like every. Single. Hunter. Out there, but you could also do debuff daggers or mount based glaives. The possibilities are quite endless. It's weird hearing someone say MHW is a regular game when I've never actually played any game quite like it aside from Dragons Dogma
This dude has the same energy as that Minecraft player who manually mined every single stone in the end in survival mode.
Kinda hard to mine every single stone when on pc its essentially infinite. Its like a 100000 blocks lmao
@@Brandon-yd3rk He said the End, so it would be every block on the Ender Dragon Island
@@gonnadestroymattsass1015 The end is not just the dragons platform. the dragon platform is just located in the end.
@@Brandon-yd3rk It is a LOT more than that. one chunk is a 16x16 area. even at Y64 you multiply 16x16 and then multiply that 63 times, not accounting for air, water, lava blocks if we are talking strictly ore or stone its 16384 blocks in that one chunk. considering theres pretty much an infinite amount of chunks id say theres 16,384 times that in blocks so yeah, blocks are infinite in Minecraft - it really depends on mapsize. I think the end is smaller than the overworld though.
Minecraft sucks and is overrated
MK is simple
Can't be touched
, can't be stopped, can't be moved, can't be rocked, can't be shook
But I think is not beginner friendly
Well im a begginer and its my main class i think its the most begginer freindly class in my opinion

Huelquer Lucas I also disagree I’m a beginner and I found MK to be fairly easy to use. The whole perfect block thing came very easy to me unlike dark souls 👀 I ended up beating DS with only rolls cause I can’t parry or whatever it’s called lol
@@mythologicalnomad6520 D.S. was plagued by bad controls it'S not user error. make 1 move, lose control of char for entirety of that move. it wasnt a friendly game. it was designed to cause anguish and broken smashed consoles. THAT....would be the user error
MK was my first vocation and I loved it.
I kinda wish the pawns are allowed to use the hybrid vocations. Will make the game much more versatile
OMG facts it would've made the game much easier instead of having to carry your two extra pawns!
@krzysztofprusakowski3386 I just saw a warrior with a mystic knight shield equipped in the pawn guild, I'm not sure if he could use it as I didn't hire him, but it was spooky to see. It seems that the people using the mods' pawns still appear in the guild and what not!
@krzysztofprusakowski3386 Ahhhh that would make sense! At least you can hire bizarre pawns that way haha!
I think that'd make it a bit too OP. Lol

Come on, Capcom! Dragon's Dogma 2 already!

I always loved Mystic Knight. My second most played Vocation right behind Warrior. What really dug me into the Mystic Knight was the fact that is was the closest thing to a divine crusader type character.
I'll be completely honest when i say i didn't realize people actually thought mystic knight was bad i thought it was a general consensus it was beastly
K Lex what exactly do you mean by beastly?
your doing it right knight
K lex I'm right along with you. I never knew people thought the class was ass.
@anonymous smartass he means very good or god like
But everyone says that MK, assassin, ranger and magic archer are borderline op with the right equipment and builds
It's because yellow vocations are op and break the game. So compared to yellow vocations MK isn't op.
Dragon's Dogma is in my top 5. I've played it to death across several releases and played Mystic Knight every time. Even now, years later and on another new playthrough, I'm still learning new things about it.
Makes me really happy to see people still playing this game and making content in 2019
Because this game is one of the best action RPGs ever made. Nothing out there captures the feel of what playing a D&D campaign in real time would feel like more than DDDA.

It's nearly 2023 here

This is like an asmr dragons dogma video
Definitely need a Dragon Dogma 2. This game is what we need desperately in 2020. Especially with the crapload of kickstarter RPG games coming out.
There used to be a dragons dogma online, but it got shut down because the "big brains" at capcom keep on under estimating their game popularity in the west. If i remember this game wasnt marketed that well when ut was released, and the only people that knew about it where those that tried it on a whim.
Dragons dogma 2 and scale bound need to be released!

I mean you can just play monster hunter world since their combat systems are veeeeeery similar, in my opinion atleast. EDIT: and yes you can just play DD right now, it still holds up today its just a little bit unfriendly for beginners because you cant fast travel in the beginning and you have to place the fast travel markers yourself. You can also go anywhere you want from the beginning meaning you quickly get in to an area where the enemies are too strong for you. But its all worth it in the end because the combat is awesome and story is pretty good as well and the endgame DLC is great and challenging too
@@BBBerti Eh, Monster Hunter World is only similar if you play Sword&Shield or Dual Blades. And even then MHW is still only one game, since the other MHs are way too different. God I just wish they made a new Dragon's Dogma bruh.

*UGHHH* you’re making me want to start my file back up again
Good. That is often my intent with my uploads
Just start over.
I love how the ice riposte actually has a blizzard come out from the shield to freeze the enemy
Mystic Knight is a fun class if you can understand it well. When using Stone Forest, I kinda feel like a Living Armor but with less health
Im one of those who have watched your content for a time and used very little at my own horror.
I always come back to your channel to fix my errors.
Thank you for all of your content.
Nice. Thanks Dan
Some more helpful knowledge, if you have a ring that takes the dark riposte up to the third level, I found that it is one of my most useful MK spells! What it does is it torpor's the enemy, A LOT! Also the holy riposte is also quite handy; the spell it casts moves out slowly and stays a while, so that means if you are right next to your magic cannon, the cannon will go berserk and start shooting uncountable amounts of blasts when your holy riposte spell touches it lol!
It's also one of the only skills that can heal you past the white bar.
Looking at the various vocations and what I’m accustomed to playing in most games, I initially guessed that I would be drawn to either assassin or magic archer. I figured out that this game is different because I felt immediately happy playing a mystic knight. I’d venture that if you put in the time to learn perfect blocking, you have essentially made all manner of monsters helpless to do anything to hurt you.
Okay, I can't take it any more, I'm reinstalling this game after finals. Monster Hunter has been my new love ever since it hit PC but, idk anymore man. This vid rekindled my urge to riposte everything whilst my pawns rant about wolves... XD
Wolves ill like fire!
I like the Mystic Knight vocation in theory and by definition/description. When I watch videos of others playing as Mystic Knights, I think “that vocation kicks ass” and then I try to do what I see in the video, but I can never get the block function to work correctly. Like you said, I must be doing something wrong. I have trouble with timing the perfect block just right. The same with the Assassin move easy kill/masterful kill. I’m obviously missing something.
And also thx for doing this video!!! You kick ass. Your videos are always very informative.
For Perfect Block I have 2 tips.
1 tap the block button when you want to perfect block, Hold the block button when you need to block.
2 never purchase and have Prescience equipped while you're practicing perfect block.
Prescience never allows to know the timing. And Fighter's Shield has different timing than the Magic Shield. Magic Shield is slightly earlier and a longer window.
But practice. Start with Goblins. Then go to Saurians, then Wolves. Eventually you will be practicing on Exuquy (which can be perfect blocked)
Also, just in case (you probably already know) you must purchase the core skills Deflect and Reflect in order to perfect block. And the Shield's stagger # needs to be on par to the enemy's attack. Weak shields cannot perfect block strong enemies.
@@Nihil0.0 May be for new players also would be helpful to know what can be blocked and what doesn't.
Nihil0.0 actually stagger and knockdown don’t determine the shields block capabilities it’s a hidden stat called stability and can only be increased with periphery augment and by upgrading the shields lvl
@@superredraider he already knows that.
If he didn't carry the shield on back the whole time then some of us would have better opinions of him.
Wait are you being sarcastic? The riposte doesn't work unless you bring up the shield during an enemy's attack and parry it.
I mean if he carried the shield in his arm in battle like the fighter. It's a common complaint actually.
Ohhh you just don't like how they did the shield during combat. Yeah I could agree having it on his arm would look a bit nicer for the role playing bits.
I kind of like it. It's like a turtle.
@@Alovatololo mystic knight or TMNT!? :D

The damage from the Great Cannon's blasts actually are affected by both your magick and your physical stats, so having both as high as possible will make your attack power stronger both via spells and normal attacks.

Mystic Knight kicks ass, but can be difficult to use
Thanks for this video, nil I used to hate this vocation because I didn't know how to use it, but after watching this video and applying some of the tips you gave, I have become much more effective and mystic knight is now my favorite vocation.
Awesome. I made this video for players like you, that just needed an minor explanation of MK. I am happy to hear, thanks
Finally someone who understands mystic knight like me. My friends were always picking on my choice of vocation. They said it was too weak. I sent them this video. The next day i saw them all playing mystic knight. 😂
I never thought mystic knight was weak tho in my personal experience it can be really op under the right conditions. Surprisingly I see most classes useful in this game and all require a specific strategy to deal good damage.
Oh GOD I LOVE this class!! It’s what I’ve wanted from so many games. I went up to my first drake I ever found in the game shortly after getting this class. I had leveled it up a bit and I just started becoming comfortable. I remember taking the fight to the beast and buffing with everything I had. it reared up at me like it was going to blow fire, so, utilizing a special block, (It’s been a while since I played so I can’t remember the name.) I held strong against the flames as they sprayed in a wide arc all over my shield. It was incredible. I easily withstood the might of the brutal attack and it was just awesome. I had no doubt this class was perfect for me from that exact moment!!!
Very nice recollection Jared. That's the passion of this game sometimes. I had something similar but mine was when I realised that the Dragon wing's flaps were something that the Riposte could reflect. When they do the wing flaps we can land upto 5 Ripostes on them. I was so happy to see that.
When you try to royal guard medieval-style
Started a 'Rising of the Shield Hero' Run a few Days ago without knowing much about the Mystic Knight. Now i think this could be a lot of Fun. Thank you dearly for sharing this Knowledge that could be so easy overlooked.
I laugh every time I get the perfect block with Riposte. It devastating counter attack with Magick. The Minotaurs (Eliminators) get destroyed by Ruinous Sigil.
Very satisfying. Watching them fly is hilarious. I like Flame reposte on Goblins, they really get some air time.
Thank you I was stuck on why I couldn't "break" the game with a mk, but now I understand lol you can't "break" what is already "broken"
Tried Mystic Knight for the first time in a fight last night. I had no trouble against goblins but I struggled against a dragon that kept kicking my ass so much I decided to switch back to Fighter. But now that I watched this it makes so much sense why my shield isn’t countering with magic attacks 😂😂😂😂😂. Gonna switch back and level up the vocation after I slay the dragon thanks man
Excellent explanation in your video. Total control of the battlefield
I'm so glad that people are still into this gem. I know it's been said a few thousand times, but it's a pity they couldn't get the rights to include the original DD opening music on the more recent port.
Luckily you can get a mod on PC that plays it on the title screen. Unfortunately, it doesn't play it anywhere else. My most epic memories in this game are battling dragons while that song is blasting away.
I couldn’t believe when I heard they’re making a Netflix Dragon’s Dogma anime that they wouldn’t use the original intro
IOI Nice Julien cosplay and I just forgot to thank you for posting your arisen's formula
thanks bro^^
Which video has the formula? The lv200 in 5 hours? That is my character for Assassin, Strider and Ranger mostly. Mage, Sorcerer and Magic Archer are typically (always) females and then Warrior, Fighter and MK are usually larger than my 69kg male.
@@Nihil0.0 yep! this one from lv200^^(did you make a formula for her too? which video?)
and about the buffs I usually equip 2 for MKs shield and 1 for pawn's weapons

I don't think I have a video with my female Arisen, I will keep that in mind for future
I know you say that Mystic Knight is a counter class, and that is true. But what I found, and the reason I fell in love with the Mystic Knight, is that its also a combo class. So many of its spells pair well with eachother, and were definitely made with that in mind. Vortex Sigil into Ruinous Sigil, Ruinous Sigil into Great Cannon, Magical Reposte into Great Cannon, Great Cannon into Great Cannon lol, you get it.
And the staff, while not a strong damage dealer like the sorcerer or the mage, is far from useless. It should be used as a tool more so than a weapon. It also gets a spell no other class gets: Sopor. Paired with a fully maxed out rusty staff, it becomes downright crippling, not only putting them to sleep, but poisoning and inflicting torpor. The synergy is unreal, as the torpor slows ALL of the sleep animations: going to sleep, staying asleep (i think), and waking up. I dont have to explain why that's insane. Heck, you can charge a stone jungle before the enemy can even attack. The Mystic Knight also benefits the most out of using the expanded skill rings, imo. There's a lot of times I run two of them for either running the 3 main elemental repostes, or the one for frost/fire one and one with 2 of sopor/vortex sigil/stone grove just for fun.
Overall, Mystic Knight is a class that, if you are willing to put in the work, is very rewarding. Easily my favorite class.
Would be mine, too. Great explanation

@@traceyjacobsen8544yeee boiiiii
I think one of the issues people might have with Mystic Knight is simply the paradigm shift it requires to play. Even its closest cousin - the Fighter - is a more "offensive" vocation by default. That is to say - MK is *incomparably* more defensive/reactive in playstyle, as the class absolutely requires - as you said it yourself - to put the shield (and thus the defense) first.
I think most people tend to miss this and try to play MK as "fighter but magic", trying to be as offensive as the fighter inherently is, thus dampening the MK's potential.
What bothers me, trying to learn mystic knight, is that there seems to be no way of attracting enemy aggro.
Counters/defense is meaningless if enemies aren’t all focused on you. And the only solution I can find tends to be “get rid of all your pawns and solo everything”.
This my favorite vocation for DD1. The Great Cannon even shoots out orbs dependent upon current buffs and even from your magical pawns. I'm still enjoying this day today.
Searched for a video like this after playing mystic knight without shield, finally using one, then learning there are cool counters. Lol learning new thing each time I try this game. Glad I gave it a second try
Good explanations here. You clearly have done your research and testing and it clearly shows. Whenever I play Mystic Knight I rely on Great Cannon too much, and so I end up equipping the elemental trances on myself which impedes the potential of the class.
That's an easy fix. Get the Enchanted Weapins and switch between them. They don't require a skill slot, stamina to switch or time to create. And they're permenant. Just inventory management.
Welp, time to reinstall Dragons Dogma: DA...again.
As a player who favors all non blue classes heavily in this game and who fell into the 'assassins creed' trap long ago (also because I use 1-2 sorcerer/mage pawn(s) to compensate for this, I'm glad someone else was able to make the video showing how this class works. As to whether I'll personally try it myself, I still cannot say at the moment as I have terrible perfect blocks right now and lean into offense/agility arisen builds as a result (despite liking fighter class), but this really helps. Thank you!
Dude i loved your commentary in this video. the way you calmly and slowly ripped apart the "mystic knight is weak" argument while soloing that cyclops made me re-download the game.

Interesting, I have dragons dogma and haven't gotten around to playing it yet. Thanks.
I still play this game till this day on PS4. Warrior was my favorite class till I found out how OP a Mystic Knight can get. They should’ve made a magic warrior type for people that still want to use a 2 handed weapon with some magic on there. Like the FFXIV Dark Knight.

The Mystic Knight is the most underestimated fighter in the game. Seriously, I saw a video of a guy that took out a Griffin with nothing but 3 magik cannons and Blessed Riposte. He perfect blocked the griffins first dive attack and the bolts of magic on the perfect block hit the the 3 magic cannons. He essentially one shot the Griffin.
Never tried the Mystic Knight, but always intended to do so. This is helpful. Also thanks for all the great music I've discovered watching your videos. Never would have heard it otherwise. You have some of the best videos in gaming.
Thanks Peter. I appreciate the praise. Adding music is sometimes my favorite part

I love the class with the enchanted shield and the immortal helm that slowly heals me over time
I like the very calm explanation while just decimating things, also in a very calm manner
Dang it Nihil, thanks to you, I bought this wonderful game and I CAN'T STOP. LOL
The fact that you had to so heavily preface this video with so many disclaimers is the largest reason why I'm fed up with gaming communities at the ripe age of 33.
This is sad.
Indeed. For me it's always felt that one half has a bleeding heart, the other half has no heart at all; there's seldom a balance. There's exceptions, of course, but the unbalanced majority prevails for now.
I feel you bro. PS4 DD Community has some toxic admins and/or moderators.
I'm late but I agree with all of you its freaking ridiculous, we either have extreme opposits or nothing at all.
I appreciate him for teaching other people about DD more clearly but all his efforts gets thwarted by randos, that calls their builds invincible/one shot/god killing best class build bs without explaining the fundamentals of the game at all.
I kinda feel bad for not commenting on the actual content of video but...
Your voice is nice and calm it almost made me sleep
The most satisfying class to play... and the most cinematic gameplay as well (depending on the player).
That slow-mo, multiple Cannons in front of a perfect block with Blessed Riposte, I can watch it all day.
Mystic Knight is the only class that can kill the framerate in under three seconds.

i swear every time you make a new vid these days you make me want to create another alt character. would you recommend going 110kg+ for a MK just to carry all those extra weapons around? I remember you seem to prefer being under 70 for most vocations but i'm guessing this isn't quite the same here.
My yellow vocations are always 69kg, my Red and MK are usually 85kg or so. I typically only use sinew for MK to carry the multiple weapons. Kinda like I only use Egression for Fighter and Warrior. And I only use Grit for Force Hatchet and Caged Fury.
Yes I'm one of the people who played MK completely wrong but not because I was using boons its because I was trying to use it as a magic warrior barely using sheild skills and just trying to smash my way thru with just a sword .So, thanks for this

Good to hear. That's why I made the video. You're not alone when it comes to Mystic Knight
the virgin fighter
He literally made lord Julien
I thought it may be appropriate for Mystic Knight. Even though I choose Mercedes any day over that guy.
Nihil0.0 mercedes best waifu
Not sure why this guy and his Dragon's Dogma videos started showing up in my recommended but I love it. Dragon's Dogma is one of my favorite games, despite the fact there's tons I still dont know about it.
My one real issue is that stats increases are based on the vocation you're using. I don't want to make a build for a certain class, but have to spend like a hundred levels playing a completely different class to get the right stats.
Okay, you've reawakened my desire to try this out! I now see I was doing some things wrong. Mahalo for the video Kumu!
Nice Jay. Enjoy. Have fun
11:42 my balls hurt i felt that
I think her balls hurt too. I do have a thing for Elder Ogre's crotch
people don't realize how much of a nuke he can be, between cannon, demonswrath, sigil, and elemental ripostes, he's almost untouchable and can simultaneously build up to nearly blast arrow level nukes should he want to. Totally underrated class, and a real tactician's choice.
I think the point I realized people were playing mk wrong was when I brought a lv. 27 mystic knight to fight grigori, with average gear and a few demon's periapts, I used demonswrath on the first knockdown and oneshot him about 3x over. I went back and did the same without the periapts, and it was easily 85% of his hp, in one SINGLE attack.
I remember just bursting out laughing because I was so fucking shocked that people had been sleeping on demonswrath all that time, I tried it out on your recommendation (your poorly explained skills explained video) because grigori was weak to dark and I figured it'd better than dark riposte for burst damage on knockdowns. Two tusk tosses and one demonswrath later, dargon gone.
DemonsWrath is soooo powerful. I love that skill. It is might awesome against Grigori and Dark Bushop. But often times the Charge runs out before I can use on Dark Bishop, or I end up killing him with Dark Cannon too soon.
Watching old DD videos like this convinced me to get the game on the switch, so far I’m absolutely adoring it, and boy am I glad I went with mystic knight
>Be me
>Buff weapon and shield
>Plop down two Great Cannon
>Spam Antler Toss until OOS
>Everything ded.
"The Mystic Knight sucks" said no one who has *ever* paired magick cannon and holy riposte.
Hey man I keep getting darkening storms with bbw lvl 3 it’s so annoying got 12 so far
change the vocation of your pawns, this will resolve.
@@renanschafer7203 this is true, only in so far as you would have got 12 of another weapon if you had switched.
The BBI 3s are the easiest ones to notice this with.
Grab a BBI3 armor and purify it, if you get boots, reload and switch class, you will always get different boots. Maybe red boots, maybe yellow, maybe blue, but always boots. I'm pretty sure it is like this for every BBI item.
I'm glad I'm not the only one who plays like you do for MK, and I'm sure there are others who do the same. Proper play and understanding equals ridiculous devastation and destruction.
the mystic knight was my first hybrid vocation that i had taken in my first playthrough, and through many of the new game+ playthroughs aswell bitterblack. it was fun and easy to learn what the vocation wanted and expected from me.
i didn't think people had such a problem with it.
I solo killed the Dragon with the mystic knight lol
Which dragon? Grigori? or that purple boi?
Grigori can be killed with fists so imma assume he meant purple xD
Every class can do that
I dont play mysticknight because its TOO easy. Honestly, Great canon and sigil plus abyssal anguish just overpowers every enemy.
As the MK tactics originator on the GameFAQs forums on the launch of the game. You're close and I approve this video. But you're wrong about holy, because Holy riposte + Great Cannon = Divine Gatling that instantly obliterates bosses.
I beat the entire game because of Mystic Knight, so I can vouch for your theory!
