    I feel like the game evolved horizontally. Systems that were improved upon were overshadowed by ones that either weren't or things that were just flat out removed. I still enjoyed the game but not as much as the first. If they release a Dark Arisen version my opinion may change depending on it.

    One of my peeves for the game as it is now is the gravity of jumping heavy attacks. I play warrior mainly since 1 and the jumping heavy has never felt so bad, there's been too many times where I go to use a jumping heavy to close distance and get an empowered heavy on a staggered goblin only to float past them like an astronaut.

      I had this exact same problem when I started playing Warrior too. Doing a jumping heavy causes you to float forward a good distance before actually bringing the blade down. It feels extremely awkward and unnatural, and you just straight-up can't use it at regular melee range.

    • @ShadowNemesis575
      @ShadowNemesis575 5 месяцев назад

      I can understand why you may not like it but this is part of how they updated movement. This way it's nolonger you need to play strider or ranger for double jump or mage or sorcerer for levitate to be able to even get to some loot or sniping enemies. Like you had to be really into the movement tech on other classes just to have a chance at covering similar distances or heights in DD1. In 2 if you do a little experimenting you can genuinely expose on all the classes and it doesn't take any complicated combos but there is some movement tech options in the game if you want to learn it on more mobile classes. This isn't just for exploring it genuinely gives you options to get out of the way of really punishing attacks if you aren't good at the perfect blocking on fighter or warriors counter attack mechanics. Then again it doesn't bother me as much because I was never really big on spamming jumping heavy because I liked experimenting with the whole kit instead of just playing what was meta for all the vocations.

      I agree. And on top of that we hardly got anything "new" that was actually good or meaningful. Maybe a nice little thing here and there, but rather than fleshing out the core aspects of DD1, they sort of... took away bits and pieces, and threw it into a better looking world. Kind of sad. @@Andicus it was very clear to me that a big focus of development on this one was streamlining things. Ironically I think that always takes away some of the charm of the really granular decision making that you get to do in DD1. I liked having more pieces of armor that requires more upgrades to reach their full potential. I liked having all sorts of recipes that you could get real dumb with i.e. using a very valuable material to make something like oil just because it happened to be a type of rock and combined with the back fat item or something. I miss the bulletin board quests with their rewards that ranged from useless to crazy. That said, I also get why stripping out things like "deliver 100 war bugles" was chosen and it's not easy for me to tell if I miss that because there was some part of it I enjoyed or because I played DD so much that it became familiar to me

    Totally agree about the climbing feeling more wonky than from the first game (although that wasn't perfect either).But it's not only the climbing.The whole movement of the character feels more "heavy" and not as precise as it was in the first game. This is something that Rift also mentioned in one of his earlier videos about the game and i'm actually surprised Nihil didn't commented on it as well.Overall i'm enjoying the game but i agree that it could have been so much more...I'm sure Itsuno was very ambitious about this gamebut it feels as if at some point Capcom stepped back at cut back the budget (probably afraid that the sales will not bring the profits they expected).

      I was 100% expecting this game to be Capcom giving Itsuno all the leeway he needed to do his thing, and yet we're seeing a deeply flawed game again just like the first one. Maybe that's budget cuts or maybe that's just the team not really knowing how to make this genre work. DD 2 excels in one thing, which is combat, and pretty much nothing else which is a problem for any RPG. I'm having a good time with it because I like DD in general and the whole idea around pawns, but in my opinion it is definitely *not* worth its price tag. Especially when we have a game like Baldur's Gate 3 which did so well and is so much more polished while coming out with a much lower price tag. All in all I can say confidently that if there's a DD 3, I won't be buying it day one.

    • @Zero0mtk
      @Zero0mtk 6 месяцев назад +4

      The issue primarily comes from there being so many animation locks in basic movements I would say. Like a couple of frames for your avatar to transition from standing still to a walking animation and so on. It makes the movement visually more realistic, natural, immersive and what not, but it also creates a moment we are not in control of the avatar. It was there in DMC5 as well compared to DMC3/4, same thing for MHW when compared to past MH games (though not as noticeable since MH combat structure was designed around such locks). The medieval fantasy lover side of me quite likes this as it enhances the overall presentation of the game, but the action game junkie side of me quite dislike it. Probably a big reason why Fromsoft's Souls-like lines never appealed to me too much, as those games have an insane amount of locked frames...

    • @bladeofmird
      @bladeofmird 6 месяцев назад +3

      @@Zero0mtk Yeah it kinda reminds me the way Gerald moves in TW3. Of course it's not as heavy and imprecise as that but i feel it's the same philosophy behind it. I understand what they tried to achieve but IMO it didn't worked at all especially since the walking and running animations feel very stiff when compared to the original game.In the original game as the character moved from walking to running and to sprint you could see how the upper body (head and torso) also had a slight tilt in order to make the animation feel more natural and dynamic. Here in all three stages of movement the head and torso have the same upward posture. So again it feels as a half-baked effort.

    • @Zero0mtk
      @Zero0mtk 6 месяцев назад +4

      @@bladeofmird Yeah I generally agree, I'm not a big fan of these "taking control away from you" design philosophy in action games that seems to have been increasingly adopted by many devs since the popularization of the Souls genre. It's good to have it sprinkled in on occasion, but when it's everywhere it becomes grating.
      I mean, I got into Dragon's Dogma precisely because it was aesthetically heavy but mechanically super snappy, it really was DMC but less hyperactive. DD2 feels much closer to MH and Souls than before, which isn't automatically a bad thing (MH is def one of my favorite franchise ever as well), but I certainly felt sad to come to that realization.

    I love this game, but I definitely agree that a lot of it feels like it's half of what it should've been. The changes made to everything feel very deliberate as if to get the player to have a certain experience with the new game and the new-ish mechanics, but so much of it feels like regression from the original title. Just weird changes like not being able to access storage for vendors to sell items but being able to access it for upgrading equipment, changing the way the upgrade system works so that you have multiple choices on how pieces are upgraded but dumbing down the dragon forging process, making fast travel an extremely costly option for the player that feels very rewarding in the end game when everything is set up just to reset all your portcrystals on NG+, streamlining the equipment options to top and bottom just to give equipment a very linear progression in terms of what pieces are better than others, many of the skills feel more varried for each vocation but reducing the amount of skills used by all vocations and baking certain skills into the movesets of the vocations, changing stat growth so its linked to level and vocation instead of being able to min-max a build. It's all very deliberate in the way things are changed to the point where a lot of it feels regressed from the first game, but I don't think its all necessarily bad, it just feels like very deliberate choices that players of the first game will notice pretty quickly.

DD2's post dragon content is more focused on changes made within the world map, which I liked a lot, but I do miss the idea of a central challenge to poke at in between excursions to the world map. I'm at 150 hours right now. While the base game is indeed not bad you said it good right at the end - the game is 50% complete. The story goes absolutely garbage at some point, what the hell where the writers or people in charge thinking?
    All of the enemies are an absolute joke once you're probably above level 50. I loved the climbing mechanic in DDDA. Here? It's so bad I couldn't believe it. All the pre-release reviewers (that probably never played DD1) saying "OOOH the enemy climbing". Who the f developed that moving camera when climbin so your character will never climb where you want him to be?
    The only enemies you're really gonna climb on level 100+ are dragons and it just takes SO much time that you rather just spam your main damage skill and get a way higher output than climbing could ever give you. Even thieves get thrown off pretty easily (I did thief like 100 hours).
    The enemy variety is "okay", not great, just okay. I would have hoped for some strong enemies. Why does this game offer you so many character levels when enemy's strength becomes negligible SO fast? On one hand I'd really like to love this game as much as DD1 but on the other hand it's just barely a decent game. When you take story and choices into account, this game is rather mediocre. Try killing NPCs and you'll meet them again in the Unmoored World. Important NPCs have to be revived or you can't progress.
    The pawn system is just bad. No learnings for your pawns. "Camp here, kill X of enemy type A". That's it? That is what I really loved about DD1 going through the whole game with only a main pawn - teaching them all the enemy types, locations and quests. For me, the pawn system is worse than in DD1.
    Edit: Hard mode would've been the bare minimum for some higher level challenges.. Guess it's gonna cost us.

You're gameplay is awesome! Great prowess with the ensnare and lunging. I so badly want to encourage trying the trickster, the fundamentals of the trickster blew my mind. They made it so much fun, I thought a support class would be pointless, but it turns out to be my favorite class for likely the similar reason you enjoy the smoke bomb. It just plays so much better and smoother than I would have ever expected. I think I want to main as trickster with high magick since the default strength is already enough lure. The simulacrum plays so fluidly and the aromatic rally buff is godly. I like the variety of goblins and harpies.

    I've play 50 hours and I realy like the game so far.
    Combat is like the first one but différent. Characters feel heavy and generaly slower than the first one. We cannot run, jump, climb on monster as fast and easily than before. In D1 we can draw our weapon almost instantly so that we can attack right away. In DD2 you have to draw your weapon as soon as possible to be able to attack. Also I love some animations like impale an ennemi and throw him away as a warrior. Violence of combats is enjoyable to me.
    Other than that DD2 is kinda like vanilla DD1. Lot of combats but also focused on exploration and on being immersive.
    I suppose/hope that a new content like Dark Arisen will available sooner or later. Very action focus and not "rpg" at all.

      This was the hardest thing to get used to for me. I'm used to how it feels now, but it's probably still one of my biggest problems design-wise. This is a combat system where many vocations don't have an ability or a block, so careful repositioning on the fly is your main tool to avoid damage. Adding inertia to your character goes against that, it gives you less control and makes it significantly harder to dodge attacks without actually using a dodge ability.

    • @AlexNoSubeVideos
      @AlexNoSubeVideos 6 месяцев назад +5

      I wouldn't say floaty, it's more that it has the momentum and weight that a movement system can have in a more modern game, for good or ill. Is it slower? Sure, go back to DD1 after playing 2 and it feels zippier because there's no acceleration at all, but faster isn't better necessarily. The new system feels more natural when exploring and moving around in battle. You may like that or not, but it is what it is. You'll still have DD1 (and Quake, and Tribes) for fast linear movement.

    This game is a 7 to 8/10 for new players, to me tho as a DDDA fan (thousands of hours on that) this game feels weak as a sequel,
    I'm into my second playthrough, 200 hours in, everything maxed and I concluded that the game doesn't top a 6/10 for me. Soooooo many core content is missing that made Dragon's dogma 1 amazing and it hurts my soul, everything that I loved about the first one is not into the base game of the "sequel". No difficulty, not enough monster variation, not enough debilitations, not enough abilities, really limited classes compared to DD1, no HIGH SCEPTER (wich hopefully be added in the dlc, that's my biggest cope) no proper endgame loop, not enough armor variation, not enough weapon variation etc..
    waiting for a decade for this sequel left a sour taste in my mouth.
    (Yes I know Dark arisen was a dlc came out a year later after DD1, not an excuse for a BBI like experience to NOT be in DD2, it feels like they didn't learn from what made the first game really good)

      Add in the fact that I'm in a country with no localized prices, I really do not want to put half the paycheck for a dlc that should have been (in my opinion, considering this is a sequel) in the base game basically. they can do so much with this game. the foundation for it being absolutely incredible is already set and all they have to do is just go crazy with it.
    in my opinion its just
    -random enemy encounters, with rng based difficulty levels. so sometimes you encounter a chimera on crack with tons of hp bars that maybe inflicts a debilitation. or a encountering a cursed dullahan out of nowhere. the boss enemies are so good that it sucks that theyre just fixed in a specific areas. the map is so huge that they can go ham with that.
    -chest randomizers, with better randomized loots. potential equipments.
    -just personal opinion, but i want the camping system to be removed entirely.
    -more options for many more builds to go with all the craziness above. min-maxing builds, play style builds, etc.
    -monsters drops loots that can be used for crafting that enhances armor's random resistances like silence, petrify etc. or give effects to weapons.
    -not necessary, but transmog system so you can wear armors that you like the appearance of without affecting your stats. customization is part of the fun anyway, especially with pawns.
    basically make it more rogue like/ dungeon like. and add just a little bit more atmosphere and its all polished. thats it.
    its a solid 8/10 game in my book but with all the above its 10/10

    I think Gut and run is so that you can deal big chunk health in short amount of time to either make big enemy flinch or for situation where monster just spam the shake body move where you can only swing around and waste stamina. The splitter is amazing, but I dont like how you just magically stand on big monster if land on certain spot, that make the move deal less damage and if the monster shake you have the chance to lose balance, fall down, waste both time and health. I have this problem when first time fight against drake, I splitter, land on its back, it fly up, I fall down and the drake slam down. That's not very fun because the stand on monster mechanic is unnesscery, I still lose stamina and risk the chance of losing balance. That's why I spent Gut and run more against enemy that you can stand on.

    Overall it feels like dd2 got the dd1 treatment in regards to how unfinished the game is. The story is a mess. While it's better than the first game, it nosedives very hard after a certain point in the game. You have so much to explore, but very little to reward or encourage you to do so. The lack of enemy variety really hurts exploration, especially at the beginning of the game when it's mostly goblins. Going from 6 to 4 skills really sucks for some vocations like sorcerer, and let's not get started on what skills weren't added.
    I'm still playing the game, and like it for what it is, but overall I feel like the game could've been a lot better. It felt like they needed to have something out around this time, and dd2 was the game chosen.

    Difficulty wise, I think alot of stuff like hitboxes and stuff imply that unlike dogma 1 they want big monsters fight to have many monsters at the same time and as such I'd really like they reintroduce the item that changed the spawns in the arena to stuff like 7 living armors or something. Imho dogma 2 fun often comes from situations where you are fighting a drake and a griffin swoops in or maybe other big monsters are nearby and you can have this all out brawls, which imho that system in BBI could take advantage of

    I like a lot about the game, but the thing that sticks out most to me is that unarmed damage is fairly viable without anything else. So many games make unarmed damage so laughable it might as well not exist, but they didn't do that here. I like that while there are no unarmed skills, you can focus in on the climbing and grappling mechanics to compensate.

    Pretty much feel the same way. Warfarer is nice in its own right. I can run a great sword and a mage staff with a bow for back up utility. You can kind of recreate the other classes such as assassin and mystic knight, just not completely. Plus unless you abuse mystic spearhand, warfarer is just an ultimate solo choice logistically speaking. If they release a dlc on the level of bitterblack or even better multiple im happy with it. It is what it is. We have a better base game before we rush off to whatever dlc if they land the quality right. We shall see.

    I haven't played the game, but if there's one thing that i really disliked was the lack of more armor.
    My favorite armor set in DD1 is the set of Lady's Garb, and seeing it not appearing in this game is kinda lame, i mean, we see a lot of NPC woman wearing beautiful gowns, and watching that neither the arisens or pawns can't wear them is sad.

    My biggest complaints about this game are the lack of difficulty, large dungeons - along with satisfying loot - and enemy variety. With lesser annoyances aswell, like no access to storage at shops or camps. I do think these can easily be remedy by DLC/s or mods though.

    I feel like there was quite a few steps back from the original game, but I'm hoping when they release dlc for Dogma 2 that it'll compensate for a lot of issues... Either way, the game is a 7/10 at least I would say. Some of the extremely minute details which made the original great were missing entirely from the second game. I feel like it'll be a huge misstep if they don't add improvements to dragonforging the way Bitterblack Isle did from the original game.
    I have high hopes, but if nothing else maybe the modding scene will take the reins. We'll just have to see.

    Your dragons dogma vids rock i agree about dd2 being a few steps forward alotta steps back. It feels like devs were rushed . Im hoping they bring alotta updates patches n expansions. They dumped the mimic worm chest the hydra the beholder the cockatrice the gargoyle and brought in minos dullahan and medusa. The map is mostly unusable water or brine or whatever. If it was like ac odessey with new ocean based skills and cool underwater enemies as well as naval combat that would have been massive improvement. The graphics and feel of the game are very fun. Multiplayer would make it amazing. As it is atm i feel the original might have more overall hrs of playability. I look forward to finding a way around the stat caps for a min max plan. Maybe speedrun 1st playthru t unlock the dragonforged class stat lvl gains from like lvl 20 or 30? I learned heaps from watching your vids specially the schematics 1s thx for being u hope theres alot more where that came from.

    During my brief maybe 15 hours playing Thief I found Formless Feint to be the most busted skill in the entire game if you carry stamina curatives (such as the comically light and hilariously easy to craft Harspud Robrants). It's actually broken to the point that I started comparing it to the pre-patch infinite living weapon build in Nioh if anyone remembers that. There is simply no limit to what it will autododge. Dragon fire? Yep. Grab attacks? Of course. Medusa's laser attack? You bet. Poison mist? Yes, even poison mist. It even works whilst climbing for some reason (although I'm not sure why you'd bother climbing with Feint + Splitter). It's quite literally god mode, haven't found a single attack in the game that can hit you whilst it is active, if you have feel free to correct me

    • @ElDrHouse2010
      @ElDrHouse2010 6 месяцев назад +1

      Mystic Spearhand's barrier shield as well, it makes you invincible too bad the class itself does mediocre split damage. So you can't lose but it takes longer to win thats all lol & is thus kinda boring.
      Magic Archer martyr bolt is absolutely busted it deals a ton of damage it can possibly one shot Grigori, very early on when you just get it. & Volide / Meteor for the Wizard now its very good because all Meteors land on target instead of just 2 or 3.
      What i didnt like tho its that its 1 weapon 1 class instead of 2 weapons 1 class, this is whats missing. And a BBI & an Everfall too why not.

    You can powder jump up to the enemies head and grab on pretty easily. From there ez gut and run or kisses into gut and run. Its nice having that and splitter based on what enemy.
    Problem is enemies are too weak tbh

    One thing I was really disappointed with, was how it feels like they mostly took away from Dragon's Dogma 1's mechanics. They kept the core mechanics that made DD1 good, but instead of fleshing it out, they reduced it to something less. They simplified it. With each vocation I maxed I ended up more and more disappointed because the number of skills for each are so little compared to the first game. And some skills I expected to enjoy weren't kept (could have at least kept sixfold arrow or the aoe skill that rained arrows. Manifold arrow is so ass, I'm sorry, but it's completely pathetic and should be a core skill rather than taking up a skill slot). Also the Pawn System. I feel like the AI is a little smarter by default, but much dumber overall, and it's mostly due to how they obliterated the inclination system. You can't grow your pawn and teach it to be as specifically intelligent as you'd like anymore which was really REALLY disappointing. I think Pawn Badges are cool but they also could've kept the bestiary page. They really took away the fine-tuning aspect that let you make a "smart" pawn.
    Shrinkflation hitting hard :(
    They really "expanded" the core concepts of DD1 by... making it feel and look better (except how frustratingly sluggish/unresponsive the gameplay can feel at times *cough* stagger *cough*), but not actually expanding its systems. Which is really unfortunate. I dream that future DLC's will fix this. The main source of "difficulty" in DD2 compared to DD1, is stagger. They didn't actually make things that much harder, all they did was introduce crazy stagger modifiers, and attack patterns that take advantage of that (Saurian three basic stabs that you can't avoid once you get hit by the first, making you waste like 7 seconds in a stun lock??? Really??? Like, come on.)
    Also, the stupid, STUPID automatic sliding on THE SLIGHTEST INCLINE is infuriating. They could not have made that feel worse. The sluggish movement was bad enough for parkour, and now THAT. Oh my GOD. ARGH. God forbid you're not a mage/sorcerer to try to "find your own path" towards a higher incline target. So much for not "sticking to the path" huh. Can't even do basic parkour half the time. This is possibly the most infuriating thing for me, even beyond the stagger because at least that is somewhat preventable by playing better. And the random stops at ledges instead of jumping when you reach a ledge while sprinting. It's supposed to auto jump off if you sprint at a ledge, but sometimes that feature just doesn't work and you do that comical wobble.
    Despite that, I do love this game. And I'm working on completing my Pawn's badge collection. I hope to complete at least that.

    • @Andicus
      @Andicus 6 месяцев назад +1

      I do hope we get something on the level of the Everfall+Bitterblack Isles in the future. That'd complete the game _enough_ like how BBI helped DD1 a lot. The combat is what we're here for, but we just need a little more to use that combat ON. Y'know? I'm really sad they didn't have a Hydra, like sure Medusa, but the Hydra fights were one of my favorites.. climbing up there and decapitating them, using fire to cauterize the wound so it cant heal, etc. THAT is how it should bem difficulty should lie in strategies of defeating enemies. Which DD2 really tries to do, but in the end you can sort of ignore those mob mechanics and beat the enemy up willy nilly.
      Also Monster variety, obvious but we really need more of it. I can't believe they made this same mistake as in DD1, but again I hope dlc's will fix it. They tried to give the illusion of variety through different goblin types and different sautian types, which is nice I guess, but they're all essentially the same and use the same strategy. Basically only a re-skin, not an actual mob variety.
      I hope it's not gonna cost an arm and a leg (please be free? though that wasn't an option to ask for on their survey... it's unlikely).
      Oh the pawns don't evolve/learn based on your commands anymore either, it seems..? Correct me if I'm wrong. But idk, that was a little annoying but also kind of cool? Now I feel like my Pawn just doesn't change/grow except for learning new strategies in combat. Same old Pawn from the start, except now it knows to step on Skeleton heads. Doesn't act differently from me telling it to go fight more to get in the enemy's face and climb, etc. Idk that kinda makes me sad.
