    #Mike #BetterCallSaul #LooseEnds
From Season 4, Episode 10 'Winner' - Jimmy turns the page on his reputation; Lalo tracks a loose end in Gus's operation; Mike is forced to make a difficult decision.
    Watch now!: play.google.co...
Better Call Saul is the prequel to the award-winning series Breaking Bad, set six years before Saul Goodman (Bob Odenkirk) became Walter White's lawyer. When we meet him, the man who will become Saul Goodman is known as Jimmy McGill, a small-time lawyer searching for his destiny, and, more immediately, hustling to make ends meet. Working alongside, and often against, Jimmy is "fixer" Mike Erhmantraut (Jonathan Banks), a beloved character introduced in Breaking Bad. The series will track Jimmy's transformation into Saul Goodman, the man who puts "criminal" in "criminal lawyer."

Werner's death is significant because his personality mirrors Mike's son. They were both too naive for the field that they were in, too kind-hearted, and they both had to die when they showed that they weren't trustworthy, even if only for a moment. By killing Werner, Mike had become the man he had hated.

The best thing about this plot line is that it shows why Mike can not be friendly with the people he works with. He was too nice to werner and that's why he felt like he could get away with sneaking off. When Mike makes it clear to everyone involved that this isn't a friendly buisness and they are in danger he is actually keeping them safe.

A brilliant little touch is how truly angry Mike was that Walt blew up the lab. Mike put a lot of blood and sweat into the construction of that lab and lost a good friend and a piece of his soul in the process.
Mike genuinely considered Werner a friend, which makes this even more heartbreaking.

In a Breaking Bad episode, Mike told Walt a story about taking half-measures, when full measures were needed. Werner is an example. Mike wanted, badly, to get the idea across to Werner that he has to make every effort to seem trustworthy, and not push the envelope. Mike probably spent the rest of his life regretting that he had merely implied what he needed to state explicitly.

The moment from 2:37 is so beautiful. Werner moves closer into the camera and for the first time I noticed he's taller (or seems taller) than Mike. In all the previous scenes Mike has been the more intimidating one, looming over Werner in an enforcer role. But after Werner accepts his death, he sees that Mike is in pain and decides to make it easy on him. He fills the screen. He's literally the bigger man, softly lit, extending the hand of mercy even on his final moments.

At first I was a little let down by the fact that Jesse's final opponent would just be some drunk mook he easily dispatches.
But then I realized that's the point: To Jesse, this isn't some ultimate evil. It's an obstacle. The last obstacle. When Jesse's staring him down, you just know he's thinking of Gale, and Gus, and Walt, and Todd, and Jack, and every single horrible person he met these past two years.
And at this point, it doesn't fucking matter. It's just one more body. That guy probably had never even killed anybody before and was just full of coke and Jack. He sees himself as a legendary badass; Jesse sees him as an object in his path. Jesse's confidence and strength of character came from his hardships, not drugs. The saddest part was that if Mike let him go, Lalo would’ve found Werner eventually. In season 5 he says to Nacho that he looked at every name in Germany that had that name. So if Lalo found him then Werner would’ve had a fate worse than death. So as sad as this scene was, it was a mercy killing. If only Werner just did his job, then he could’ve went home to his wife a rich man.

THIS is how you write a great death scene. Mike, unlike many other characters, never liked killing people. That was a line he didn’t cross unless he had no choice. Even though he almost always shows little emotion in both shows, in this scene his voice breaks because he connected with Werner (a loner who was extremely skilled in his particular field). My interpretation is that he followed close behind and at a brisk pace because he knew that if he hesitated he might not do what unfortunately had to be done. He thought killing Werner was unnecessary since the man had made a mistake and seemed as if he was willing to learn from it. Gus, the Salamancas, etc. didn’t have the humanity that Mike did and would’ve killed Werner on the spot without batting an eye. Unfortunately, Mike became exactly what Matty’s killers were: corrupt people who killed an innocent soul because he couldn’t be trusted. I choose to believe this as the true moment Mike became trapped in this hellish lifestyle. This moment was tragic for him and he probably loathed the cartel from then on. Of course, with them knowing about his daughter-in-law and his granddaughter, he was powerless to do anything except keep working for Gus. Great acting by Jonathan Banks here! In my opinion this death scene was done even better than Chuck’s (and that is saying something).

    1) Mike's first kill after trying not to kill anybody just had to be Werner, and it's something that had to be done. Years later, you can see Mike being more hardened to doing decisions like this when he was to shoot Walter.
    2) Mike let Werner call his wife to make sure she doesn't arrive, wile Mike let Walter call Jesse to make sure he arrives. Mike sadly listens to Werner having to argue to his wife, which causes him to let his guard down by how far Walter was gonna go to save his skin by turning it into killing Gale.

It even looks like he is trying to say "just go. run." but the words won't come out. He is so conflicted, he wants to let Werner go and disobey Gus because he knows deep down that it is the right thing to do. But he can't. As he said before "I was down in the gutter with the rest of em." Mike realizes he is still headed down a corrupt path, and he hates himself for it. As we see in the next season where he is basically suicidal. Great fucking universe and characters they've created with these two series.

Everything about this scene was just so heartbreakingly perfect. From where it starts with having Werner have an argument with his wife as his final conversation and resorting to a lie to ensure her own safety, The emotion in Werner's voice when he says; 'Is there no other way, truly?'
But I think what really does melt me every time I watch this is just shortly after Mike gives Werner the smallest of nods, Werner just looks into Mike's eyes as if to take in the friend that he made one final time until Werner finally accepts his fate by 'Walking out to the stars to get a better look.' followed by the distraught expression over Mike's face, knowing that he didn't want to do this but he had no choice and especially when you take into account Mike very rarely ever shows emotion in his line of work.
Everything about this is just reminding me how much of a genius Vince Gilligan really is and not too mention just how beautifully acted Jonathan Banks and Rainer Bock made this entire scene. Just so powerful.

One of the many things i love about Mike is how he never gives anyone the disrespect of a disingenuous apology. It’s very consistent throughout the show, every time Mike has a chance to say “sorry” “i wish there was another way” “you don’t deserve this” or any other meaningless phrase he could use to clear his conscious, he doesn’t. You can see that he wants to express his pain over whatever act he’s committing, but he doesn’t because he knows that he’s the one committing the evil, and it would be a disservice to the other party for him to place his guilt on them.
The writers always create dialogue with a space where an apology could naturally fit, but its always left empty.
