I have never heard a cleaner ensemble of great guitar players..you can hear every note..every picking..screw distorsion..sick and tired of it!! These cats scratch you hard!! greatest players But Danny could cover every style.from blue grass to Jazz!! He was a true gift to all the musicians.....Thank you for posting:):)
I met Danny the day before he performed on the American Music Shop '91. The gig was cancelled bc of a tornado. He was very gracious, he signed my copy of Guitar Player magazine. ( the one where he has a half face black and white make on the cover. Very cool Memory.
Some of the best guitarists that time has given us. They explore and bring to life wonderful notes and riffs. Do they rehearse or just jam to perfection?
Used to look forward to the Great American Music Shop Saturday nights on TNN. It was a musicians appreciation show that featured many players that might not have been known otherwise.
Sure wish they'd bring shows like this back...this was when music was good...& even before this time too. Sure, there's some good still now a days, but how do you really hear about it with our these lil shows like this?
Love that they cut Danny’s volume to nothing to avoid pure absolute embarrassment. As phenomenal as Lee and Gill are, there was only one Gatton. Arguments welcome.
Why not respect all 3 without putting one above the other-they are all phenomenal. Nobody but a fool can argue that. Personal preference ain't got shit to do with that.
Just watch some of the other videos. As good as they are, you can see Vince Gill and Albert Lee lookin around, lookin at each other when Gatton solos,...and it’s that look like, “God dammit. How does he do that????”
I'm a giant Gatton fan, but I always thought this wasn't his best performance personally. On his worst day he's better than I'll ever be, but this would be the last video I'd show people to discover him.
Danny Gatton was to guitar what Vince Gill was to singing... the best. There were a few guitarists in the same league as Gatton.... but none could outplay him in all of the different styles that Gatton could play.
Barnekkid Yep, I think you're right that "Itchin Sandspur" was speaking of the Stratocaster. He may have seen him playing one in Danny's younger days, but the Telecaster was his main choice he seemed to have settled on for reasons like you said. I think I may have seen some pictures of him playing another type guitar, petrhaps a Les Paul or Strat back in his younger days, but yeah, the Tellie was his main choice and his favorite.
Yes, Johnny Highland, Phil Keaggy, Robben Ford, Jeff Beck, Eric Johnson, Greg Koch, Redd Volkaert, Guthrie Trapp and about 50 other guys, including Vince Gill, who are all just as good if not better than Gatton ever was. Danny was great, but he wasn't the end all of guitar.
No point in waxing eloquent about these geniuses, ill run out of praises! Worth mentioning is Danny's picking rolls, something he was brilliant at. He'll be missed by all that are fortunate to have haeard of him, and heard him
Any guitarist who's got the balls to be on the same stage as Danny has got my respect. Because if your not at your best he'll bury you
Danny Gatton , Albert Lee , and Vince Gill are all 3 of my favorite guitarists. These cats are heavy as it gets when it comes to guitar slingers!

One of my favorite episodes- bringing all Vince’s guitar slingers all together. Hugh Brian O’Neill, creator/executive producer of American Music Shop.
Wow ... I have never seen this before. 3 Legends of Guitar. I miss that cat Danny Gatton.

Damn, we need a revival of American Music Shoppe or something similar. Absolute killer musicians, great music.
Oh, why don’t you call me little Kenskill. What a wonderful song uplifting Vince you can never go bad on song you’re fantastic

Albert lee, just fantastic
Smashing voice on Vince Gill and he's got a great feel to his playing, perfectly suits his music but... there is only one Danny Gatton.
Albert lee and Danny gatton are two of my favorites! I love Danny's rig, a black guard tele with bardens and a brown face fender!
what are "bardens"? tia.
Nira Tocco joe Barden pickups. I may not spell it right.🤪

Great post...Thnx.

Ι think both Lee & Gill would agree that Danny Gatton was beyond everybody...It s not about respect ,is about abilities and musical geniuses.

No Argument here buddy . Every now and then god touches this earth with gold dust . He sprinkled a hell of alot on Danny . God bless him

+Itchin Sandspur Yeah, any guitar for that matter and he often played a Telecaster as he was here.
I'm assuming you mean "Strat," and DG didn't play them because the middle pickup interfered with his finger style.

DougCameraman. And then there was Johnny Hiland.....OMG🙈

rock-solid on the drums is the late, great Martin Parker. miss you, pal...
that whole show was way cool Vince steps back and let Danny and Albert rip

Great song great playing
The Paul McCartney of Country Music
Saw him with the Time Jumpers a month ago. They crushed this song. In freaking credible.
+Reverend Ovni Danny died in 1994, and the Telecaster has never been the same.
First time I heard of this cat he was on the liner notes of a Mark Knoffler/Chet Atkins album for playing guitar and vocals. 'Nuff said...
Lee and Gill are very polished players, Gatton was balls out
OK I'll say it - Vince never had any problem with the ladies, did he?
Hmmm. First song of the set and they have Mark O'Connor on stage, but he doesn't get a solo? I'm sure they could have fit him in....
The Humbler.
The Country version of G3
Where was this performance? TV?
Albert is one helluva player....But that guitar of his is so ugly !!
that's his MusicMan Albert Lee Signature guitar that he's been using for many many years
I don't like the tone of his music man but, yes he is a truly wonderful player
Tommy Two-shoes. Yeah m man paying him to play that tone....train wreck..
I love Albert Lee, but His tone here sounds like an arcade game.
