Gran Turismo 4 on PC (PCSX2 PS2 Emulator)

- Gran Turismo 4 running on PCSX2, the PS2 emulator R 2404 in 720p HD at full speed (50FPS).
The game runs exceptionally well and at full speed even at high resolutions. Can be played in 720p HD at 50FPS (full speed).
For the PAL version make sure you go into the game options and set the brightness to 0 getting rid of any bugs the game may have. There are still some random screen bugs that pop up now and then but just flashes. Aside from that this game is fully playable and can run at full speed.
Fraps has lagged the game slightly so its not running full speed all the way through the race. You will see the speed difference once i pass under the overpass. After that it stays at 50FPS though some random slowdowns occur and move it down 5FPS and then back to full speed.
[Please note that compared to dolphin, PCSX2 needs a decent computer system to run games as decent speeds with good graphics. My earlier pc could only run this game at half speed at the lowest resolution, now it runs it at full speed even when fraps is recording... major improvement]

Gran Turismo 4 is just legendary. Best race game ever made. gt5 and gt6 are good but cannot be compared to gt4. All those memories. I've completed all B-spec races the game could offer. I've always loved simulating the races and see how good the cars could drive even though I was 7 when i first started playing the game. This game have a special place in my heart

Same here, I'm 13 and I could remember spend so many hours into getting the s class license when I was 6. Same with forza spending all that time beating the games, now they turned to shit 😯

Er, no they shouldn't. Apart from the fact the no-one wants to play four different Gran Turismo games again - they're incremental updates like any sport sim (that's not to say that each GT doesn't have it's unique selling points and advantages over others, newer as well as older), GT 1 & 2 were on the PS1. Why do think there have been no hi-res makeovers of games from the fifth gen. Because they would look awful. What about the low-polygon count, low quality textures, almost complete lack of lighting etc. You can't just HD everything up you know.

I agree gt4 was my favorite. Gt5 and gt6 felt unfinished and not up to par.
James White they could do it with GT 3 but GT 4 is HD 1080i anyway that is technically High definition which the PS2 could support but where that stopped was at the analogue imput cables as no HDMI was available when it came out

Even if they've added support, the game still needs a pretty high overclock for the numbers to be crunched effectively for this game to run.

yes! go to the control set up and use raw input mode or click them all and test each one till you see the numbers move in the control test panel.

yea i get lags too in this game, pretty much in the same area's u stated. The development team for pcsx2 have been going pretty hard at it lately so hopefully some nice changes will happen :)

Probably looks that way because it's been upscaled to a HD resolution (which can stretch the image), whereas GT5 runs natively in 1080p.
Yes. PCSX2 uses a lot of resources to run, but needs the highest possible CPU frequencies to be the best. If you can overcloack, then I recommend it to run GT4 emulated. GT4 is one of the most difficult games to emulate, but I have been playing in 1080p though the story @60 fps+ for a while now.

Good to know! I'm about to get a new PC with a Intel i7 2600k Quad Core Overclocked to 4.2 Ghz. Your specs are lower and you can still hit full speed.

Mabye you can play the goddamn 24 hour endurance races in one sitting without taking a break or either:a)make your PS2 overheat or b)you can play the whole fucking day just to complete the whole godddamn game.

Hmm.. Thnks for the heads up! I've looked on quite a few websites/forums (lost count!). They all seem to be positive about my CPU & RAM (TwinMOS - PC2 6400 DDR2 800), but my Motherboard or "mobo", doesn't seem very appealing to the OC community. In fact I looked in my BIOS, and it doesn't even have any option to see/muck about with the FSB (currently @ only 266!!) or Voltage settings. I fear my journey ends here x( ..?!

@iNexXxuS Eventhough spec does matters. Most important thing is config. I can run Gran Turismo 4 full speed on my Pc (spec dual core 2.8ghz, Nvidia 8800gt, 3gb ram ddr2)

is it NTSC version of GT4? how can you set resolution to 720p? there is in OPTIONS menu for displey 480p or 1080i
I've tried the same settings but the intro doesn't play after the disclaimer, it just turns to black. Does anyone know how to fix the problem?

I got graphics glitches on my burnout 3 takedown when I use hardware but when i switched to software mode it get rid of it but I slower and quality is worse!
true that. i get decent speeds "most of the time" but i do get some FPS dips here and there and depending on what track im on, what resolution etc...
My i7's at 3.8Ghz atm and i seem to get a good 45-50 FPS with dips reaching about 35FPS at its lowest.
You know Damn Well, that tgose graphics were ahead of their time! These graphics make GTA San Andreas Look like N64 Graphics
+One Mobile Kinda, but it's not that hard to make this when you only have to draw the cars, and in fact, the environments don't look that far from GTA San Andreas. Just look at the iconic mini-game of Mario's face in Mario 64, it looks better than any PS2 game, it's not the same to do a lot of things at the same time than focusing on a few.

@Zmak213 no he does. if that was the case i i wouldnt have my i7 920 past 4Ghz. PCSX2 utilizes 2 cores only, so even if you have a quad or hexa core cpu, only 2 will be used to emulate the game. Higher clock speed = better game speed :)
anyone knows how to get the metric km/h while emulating Gt4 in PCSX2?
yea i tried it with version 0.9.6 but it doesn't work, thats why im using the unofficial beta version.
up to full speed on low resolutions, but not constant.... i think. just a guess, try it out and see

Can you use a wheel as controler with pcsx2 ? I've got a Logitech Driving Force GT
it all depends on your clock speed. pcsx2 will run most games at full speed if your cpu clock speed is at 3.5GHz or higher.

yea pcsx2 is a little harder to get your head around. I will make a tutorial on it when i have the time :)
As for games, i rip them from my ps2 games onto my pc using dvd decrypter. i dont download any of my games.

My ps2 was broken down and I had this game but the disc was broken so I had nothing to do
use speedhacks in settings be sure to use the good one try them all so you can know which one to use for each game and this emulator is a memory ram eater so if you have a desktop try to get more memory or faster memory (its cheap)

my version is an bit odd , its darker for an reason but.Never the less its play Gran Turismo 4 at 80~95 % speed it very playable :p

I would suggest first that you make sure you have some of the speed hacks enabled and play the game at the lowest resolution and see what speed you get. If you need more help watch the video i added in the sidebar. I would also highly suggest you overclock your CPU to 3.5Ghz or higher, e8400 are awesome at over clocking :)
Me and my dad played the hell out of this game when it came it and MAN was it good at pissing you off. but it was Still alot of fun.
My dad I played the hell out of 3, 4, and 5. We are now on 6 but 4 was the best in our opinion.

Tried Burnout 3 recently, struggled to get past even some of the menus, Yeesh! To those basking in the glory of their rigs, lol think again. Its true some games play like they look (e.g DBZ Budokai 3) but the EE is a whole different creature to the epic numbers of a typical 'beast PC'. Wishful thinking got me to post my 1st comment, I really wish there was like a "pc configuration" guide for playable games.. I'm guessing my Processor and GPU are far too weak.
@undeny You can overclock your CPU, search google "how to overclock cpu". I think that you can run this, but you have to try it out yourself.
