I'm even seeing audio and dslr guys hyping it. Its also line of site... if something blocks or messes with the transmission your 1 audio source is jacked. With wired that can never happen.
@@shorttermsage Everyone wants microwave production. They don't want to go through the hassle of syncing the audio, but it is often at the expense of losing it all together haha, oh well. As a wedding filmmaker I can't afford to lose audio. So that's why I trust the Tascam!

Hi Ben. I haven’t watched the video yet but I just wanted to ask something. So I have a RUclips channel where I sing sometimes, and for all three years that I’ve had my channel, I’ve used only my phone to record so the audio quality…it’s not bad, but I know it could be better. (Or at least I hope so. I don’t want to buy a mic and then see that the audio quality has not changed in the slightest) But yeah, I have the chance to buy a mini microphone. It’s very tiny, one that you just plug into your phone. It says it’s a Lavalier microphone. I guess my question is, should I buy it? Will this microphone drastically improve the sound quality? I don’t have a lot of options. This one’s less than 5 dollars, and others are more expensive😅😅 I’d really appreciate your feedback and advice, thank you in advance! @@benjohnsoncreative Just a small room with wood floors, but I have blankets and rugs around. Occasionally outside. It’s literally just the system or the phone itself, it has very little to do with the recording. Curtis Judd said something about the signal being converted to a high impedance signal or something like that.. but I just think it gives me unusable audio unless it’s going to an external recorder
@@benjohnsoncreative Although I have used and loved the DR-10L I have not purchased my own because I was always thinking to myself that, it's been out so long a newer better version for sure will be on it's way. But I think I have been waiting in vain because there isn't much room for improvement thus a newer version probably won't be on the horizon for a while. I'll probably pick 2 up this cyber monday.

Ben I have two Tascam DR-10L units and syncing up in post two individuals on the street talking is a living nightmare. Though the individuals are four to five feet apart you get pre-echo. You have to completely reduce the sound of one of the subjects speaking to have usable sound. If you try to sync both units and lower the sound of one of the units while the other person stops talking which many people suggest that I do is ridiculous. To do this it would sound unnatural because usually when one person is talking the other person man interject something at the same time the other person is speaking. Have you actually used the Tascam system while two people are speaking four or five feet from one another? Seems to me the Tascam is only good when one person is talking.

For sure it is a bit pricey but overall very affordable compared to traditional options for high quality audio! With that said, I’d look into the Pixel Voical air 2 as it’s cheaper and still good!
It all depends on your budget and the way you are using it. If you want wireless I like the rode go, if you want stability and don’t mine syncing audio later than the Tasman is a great choice

Nice video, Ben! I purchased the Voical Air due to its "all-in-one" appeal. However, when I use this mic my voice skips and cuts in and out. This causes my sound to be utterly useless. Do you know what may cause this? Thanks!
Usually if you are experiencing audio drops it could be due to wireless interference. This is ultimately why I like the tascam dr 10l as mentioned in the vid
I edit in Final Cut Pro x and it has built in syncing software. What I used prior to that was a program called “plural eyes” it is compatible with premiere and other editors
It's not clear when you're demonstrating the audio from the unit you're talking about. I don't really hear a difference in the audio between the different units, and I'm not even sure if you're demonstrating them, or just talking about them.
I disagree - I prefer to charge via USB. How is your logic when you say that batteries are modern and better for filming? Nonetheless another good video
@@benjohnsoncreative Not really. They can be used similarly to Lav Mic but it would be similar to me saying I'm reviewing a lav mic and reviewed a Zoom H1N. It can be used as a lav too with enough tape.

I’d imagine the camera has a better pre-amp than the phones which is why, what sort of environment is your audio being captured in?

Your editing software may have a syncing feature, Final Cut does! But I’ve used Plural Eyes in the past to sync as well!

Look at my shirt and follow the chapter markers, it switches each time I change the unit, and I am using the unit I’m talking about each time
The best part is that they all sound the same.

Just use an android device with the smartLav or even a small recorder. They cost like 10 bucks and use AAA batteries
The quality difference will be noticeable.
I disagree - I prefer to charge via USB. How is your logic when you say that batteries are modern and better for filming? Nonetheless another good video
They are better because you can have multiple on long shoot days, and continue to record without having to stop and charge

@@benjohnsoncreative Not really. They can be used similarly to Lav Mic but it would be similar to me saying I'm reviewing a lav mic and reviewed a Zoom H1N. It can be used as a lav too with enough tape.
