It's sad that Thomas has to make a point to praise a vehicle for having physical controls, manufacturers really need to start listening to customer feedback about capacitive and screen button BS!

If customers want physical buttons, things will change but not overnight.

    • @candlercando
      @candlercando Год назад +5

@@Lerppunen I'm convinced the bean counters don't properly survey what is wanted and rely on sales numbers to tell a story. However, each vehicle contains thousands of features so determining ergonomics, lighting, etc is complicated.. For example, despite US regulations that the the rear tail light can be red or yellow on a non-moving fender, this vehicle comes to the US with red blinkers. Preferred would be to keep the yellow.

    • @billyjean2905
      @billyjean2905 Год назад +6

@@Lerppunen This trend is being spread by entrepreneurs' interest. Replacing physical buttons into touch screens contributes to cost cutting. That looks cutting edge but actually not easy to use and manufacturers love it because it's cheaper to make than before.

    • @candlercando
      @candlercando Год назад +3

@@billyjean2905 Right, and just like companies did studies to show that consumers "prefer" the easier to handle 59 ounce orange juice package over 64 ounce OJ, (and further consumers now "prefer" 52 oz OJ to 59 oz), consumer choice is not the actual driving force but cost is.

    • @ani_b

As someone who's been using EVs and fairly advanced luxury vehicles for more than a decade now, it's quite easy for our muscle memory to adapt to capacitive buttons. I really don't get the hate on these review channels. Most manufacturers do poll users and focus groups about UX so no, this isn't coming from thin air.
It's important to remember that people tend to use the same vehicle everyday for a long time as opposed to reviewers who try many different cars for short periods.

Hey Thomas - TY for another one of your in depth reviews, I really enjoy your style of presentation.
    Well done!!
I had the pleasure of taking out the ICE 3.5 |TT version out over a weekend twice here in Vancouver. I should have bought it when I had the chance. Now very difficult to find a used one and that price has increased by $5-$10K from original new MSRP.
The GV70 offers a wide variety of modes for the driver to enjoy.
As I approach 60 yrs old (and I'm a bit of a car guy) I totally love the luxury & comfort side of vehicles BUT also can to turn it up when I can. This GV70 3.5TT should really be about $20-$50K higher priced. It simply does everything really well and is 2nd to none is this segment when it comes to ride quality, comfortness, quietness all while surrounding the occupants with massive luxury features.
It is called the baby Bentayga for many reasons. It is so quiet & refined when you want it to be - When you're stuck in traffic or going no where fast. My wife asked me if it was an EV as it was so quiet. Those double paned windows really make a huge difference. Plus the massaging seat is nice!!
When you want to drive spiritedly switch it into Sports + mode and you easily have a rear wheel driving bias sporty experience.
Its the luxury components/options, higher tech, standard features & options, the ride quality (can be extremely quiet & smooth AND more aggressive in the Sport mode) that makes this GV 70 THE clear winner in segment.
I sure hope that the leather option is available here in Canada - I'll take it in that Gorgeous Mauna Red exterior colour with 2 tone interior combination please:-)
In Canada that full load price for the ICE is $76,500 plus taxes. The F&PDI is included in that price. No discounts from that at all.
BMW also has electrified 4 series. The huge advantage for me is (a) the ext & int looks (b) the sunroof. I NEED a sunroof.

Dealers have no info on when the electrified version will be arriving and NO configurator yet. They say its coming out in 2023 in Canada and the top trim level will be about $25K-$35K higher cost vs the ICE version. Besides its NO Gas requirement the EV version is a littler quicker with 0-60 times 4.3 to 4.6 seconds. For me I'd put down my deposit yesterday if the EV version had a time in the 3.5 second range.
I'll be testing the Electrified GV70 as soon as it lands.
PS - Lots of dealer problems with Genesis in the States. Here in Vancouver No problems at all. I have 3 dealers within 40 minutes and the nearest is 15 mins away.
    Thanks again Thomas, Cheers all!!

Having the rear turn signals that low, creates some kind of 'Vision Restraint "
It is natural for drivers to fucus on where the head unit for all lights are situated,
Most people won't quickly notice the turn signal as quick as they would notice the brake lights especially in congested town driving. Bad for busy places like India, or Lagos Nigeria etc..
This design has more disadvantages than advantages in certain parts of the world and motorway

Regarding the frunk: I think the accessibility is the problem. Teslas make their frunk (afaik) accessible like the rear trunk - easily, without any hassle. These cars (Kia, Hyundai, Genesis) have a frunk, but you have to first open the hood and only then you can access your frunk. That's way too much - I would most certainly never do that.

Hi Thomas, I think the EQC is Mercedes GLC equivalent electric model, if so I doubt they would budget for an electric GLC, since it create competition between two in house products.
Having said that my main gripe with the EQC is the top end speed (111.8 mph) while starting at over 400 HP with good acceleration. In the UK, that is a non-issue since you would be driving illegally at those speeds anyway, but in Germany with the autobahn it becomes a whole other story. Then the GV70 (top speed 148 mph) starts to make a lot more sense, not by much, but more in line with a regular ICE vehicle.
For circling around town, none of that matters. It will matter if you do a lot of highway miles and travel across Europe...
EQC (average electric range 255 miles, time to fast charge 25 minutes) VS electric GV70 (average electric range 283 miles, time to fast charge 17 minutes)
EQC is slower from lights than a GV70, costs almost $10k more, and in my eyes GV70 is prettier and just as luxurious. I have been looking at these two and an EQB 7 seater, but am inclined to go GV70 or wait for an electric GV80 with 7 seats (need space for family and equipment). Really not sure which way to go at the moment...

I read this extraordinarily beautiful GV70 BEV is about the size of the Nissan Ariya, BMW X3, Lexus RZ450, and Mercedes EQE-SUV. But the price is a little over US$70K. It offers so many futures and functions. A fully equipped EQE-SUV with Hyper Screen is close to US$90K. I wish Hyundai had chosen a 14-inch or 17-inch "square" shape screen. A long skinny screen is not easy to view on a map and parking views. And it would be nice if they added 4WS. Regardless, EV70 BEV is stunningly attractive and desirable. I would give a thumb-up over rivals. Very well done, Hyundai/Genesis. Thank you, Thomas. But have you had a chance to drive EQE-350 SUV? Which one would you like? GV70 SUV or EQE-SUV? I would love to see and hear your opinions.

May be the SQ5 (I do not know) but not the Q5. The interiors with the physical buttons are nice. I like layout as the ones in Audi E-Tron more. The screen built not as a protruding tab but inbuilt into the dash.

Thank you very much for your interest in this topic. I also bought cars with animal skin leather seats before I did my research and got to know the industry. The most important thing is: With today's modern materials, you have nothing to lose, just to gain. You achieve the same kind of luxury and comfort or even better while having the same or better durability with less impact on humans, animals and the environment.
You can use fabric/cloth, microfibre or leatherette. The classic approach is using oil/plastic as source material. Overall, a vehicle contains about 300 kg plastic. A car seat needs about 5 kg plastic. So the overall plastic share for the seats is very low and it is at this moment the most efficient way to produce a car seat. A couple of litres of fuel equals a car seat basically. So if you want to save oil/plastic, rather look at consumption for energy, fuel and heating and to other car parts than the seat. Note that animal skin leather also always contains a plastic coating for durability. However, long-term we should of course find raw oil alternatives. So going further, seats can be made from recyclables (e.g. from PET-bottles or old fishing nets) or even increased share of plant-based materials (like pine oil, canola oil or start-up materials like Pinatex from pineapple leaves or Desertex from cactus fibre or the mixed-plant-based Mirum, so be seen at ruclips.net/video/S1aNZeoatmE/видео.html). On a calculation base, by ditching animal skin leather from car interiors, the amount of emissions (CO2e) is reduced by 85 (!) % (www.press.bmwgroup.com/africa-dom-easteurope/article/detail/T0403389EN/on-the-market-from-2023:-bmw-and-mini-models-with-vegan-interiors?language=en) - and that is a very conservative calculation. So it is at this moment the most important thing you can do to make car interiors more sustainable.
A good example for high-end luxury with ventilated animal free seats is the BMW X7 with Sensafin: ruclips.net/video/1pRNkW9nrrw/видео.html
And the Kia EV9 with plant-based oil share: ruclips.net/video/6vXePQi_MAk/видео.html
New leatherette materials can be superior in every aspect, even for cleaning: ruclips.net/video/u94YXJ72UTA/видео.html
More and more natural materials are rising: ruclips.net/video/nRSsXEnwHDo/видео.html

For seeing how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: ruclips.net/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/видео.html
Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally.
In a high animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat is the "first" misuse case, the hide remains a profitable body part. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you demand it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and harms the environment, you make them more profitable. Alternatively, you could support industries with your wallet which try to improve the sustainability of materials. Also, if you turn the argument around to "meat is the waste of the leather industry" you realize that it doesn't make sense (and is ethically doubtful) to discuss the primary use of individual body parts of mammals. Mind experiment: You are getting slain down on the street; would it matter to you if it was for your smartphone or for your purse?

The animal skin offering is not a "deal breaker". It may be for you and some others, but you do not speak on behalf of all motorists.
I wish you would stop pushing your own personal agenda on this subject.
You are perfectly entitled to prefer the non animal skin option, however, others do still prefer this option.
Personally, I prefer suede or artificial suede, but I would never seek to stop others being able to select their preference, or to pressure manufacturers to delete this option because of your own preferences.
I generally enjoy your reviews, but inevitably there comes a point in most of your reviews where you cannot stop yourself from pushing this agenda.
Also, and I have mentioned this before, it would be more useful to hear the official boot capacity in litres, rather than a non-scientific poke around in the boot with a ruler. Non of your measurements are exact and often only measure one are of, for example depth. So by stating one measurement for depth, you are not being factually accurate as the depth alters at various points, completely negating your single depth measurement.

Or the Polestar 3 e.g. is using pine oil. And even if you still create a leatherette seat the classic way with petroleum base without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is very little in comparison to how much oil is used for other car parts or how much oil is burned for fuel or heating. By ditching animal skin leather from car interiors, the amount of emissions (CO2e) is reduced by 85 (!) % (www.press.bmwgroup.com/africa-dom-easteurope/article/detail/T0403389EN/on-the-market-from-2023:-bmw-and-mini-models-with-vegan-interiors?language=en). @@autogefuehl I think you may be missing the point of my comment.
I respect anyone's opinion on whether animal skins are used in the motor industry and as a reviewer of cars you are absolutely entitled to point out whether the model under review comes with leather or artificial options; proper consumer advice - as it should be.
What annoys me and why I would consider unsubscribing, is the disproportionate level of importance this subject has.
Whether a manufacturer only uses animal skin or not is THEIR decision. If they decide not to use any animal-free products, it is THEIR choice. It is also the choice of the consumer to vote with their wallet if they do not like this approach.
It is clear from many of your videos and not least the question you recently put to the VW CEO, that the use of animal skins is a subject very close to your heart. And that is fine, but in your personal quest you are removing objectivity from your reviews and it feels like you are using this part of a vehicles review to push your own personal agenda.
It is clear that you are moved by this subject as evidenced by the speed of your response to my initial post where you just happened to have to hand a series of links on the cruelty of the animal skin trade, which you sent me to view (to educate me?)
I am not a heartless person and no right thinking person wishes to see animal cruelty, but there is a time and a place for airing your personal/ideological views, and i feel that that is not in almost every car review you produce.
If you are that passionate, take your protests directly to the motor manufacturers, just don't impose it on your viewers.
Caveat: I personally prefer artico and similar synthetic products, so I am no fanboy of the leather trade (although, I am not against it either).
      Kind regards.

In general, depending on the animal skin grade, the animals are specifically raised for this matter. However even if meat would be the reason no.1 in other cases, the hide remains one of the most profitable body parts. That means: If manufacturers put animal leather in a car and you accept it as a customer, you give your money to an industry that earns money by oppressing humans, animals and destroys the environment, you make them more profitable. Or imagine someone robs you on the street and beats you to death - would it matter to you if it was for your Smartphone or for your purse?
The animal agriculture industry occupies 2/3 of all farm land on this planet which cannot be used for direct human nutrition then. That is extremely inefficient. The no.1 cause for deforestation is the animal industry. It is also one of the biggest contributor to climate change. The amount of land, resources, energy and water being used is beyond imagination.
If you are interested in how the animals are being treated and transported in the global leather industry, watch this footage: ruclips.net/video/tkjCAmq1_8E/видео.html
Note that the footage is genuine and was recorded by a highly decorated investigative journalist in Germany I know myself personally.
For the alternative, you can either use artificial fabrics which can be made from recyclables (we have already shown a lot of vehicles that use great fabric seats from PET-bottles etc.) or more and more also from plant-based materials (like Pinatex or Desertex or Miriam). And even if you would create a seat completely with petroleum without a recycling share, the amount of oil being used for that is nothing in comparing just to once fueling up your car. By ditching animal skin leather from car interiors, the amount of emissions (CO2e) is reduced by 85 (!) %. So it is the most important thing you can do to make car interiors more sustainable.
In practical reasons, fabric or microfibre seats are just more useful. You do not sweat in summer and it is not cold in winter. And if you want the slick look or something to wipe clean easier, that is possible with animal free leatherette, even in ventilated options.
And there are also new leatherette materials available which are superior in every aspect: ruclips.net/video/u94YXJ72UTA/видео.html
More and more natural materials are rising: ruclips.net/video/nRSsXEnwHDo/видео.html or ruclips.net/video/yG3z7m6UqNg/видео.html
Using animal skin on seats is a major issue of animal rights, human rights - and after all it is just common sense what is better both for the environment and just more practical and more luxurious for the customer. We cannot change what we have bought in the past (that also counts for ourselves of course!), but with more information and compassion we can change how we decide in the future.

In Euro NCAP, every Korean cars failed to match with Chinese cars. It's time to consider Chinese cars as replacement of Korean. Chinese are even teaching Japanese when it comes to EV. That means, Chinese products are equivalent to those of Japanese.
