REALLY good video. And, I know you said you didn't like the visual quality of it, but it works for me. It felt like taking a walk in the woods with a buddy who is also a watch hobiest. Nicely done! And I just subscribed. I have had a GMT BLNR, a Day-Date, and/or a Blusey Sub. When thinking about adding, or swapping out one for the 226570, the size is what worries me. My left wrist is only 16cm, but I have a slightly wide flat top of my wrist that measures 54cm across the top. I have never had the 226570 on my wrist, but I wonder if it would feel as cumbersome as you mentioned it feels on you. I love that it is brushed and tougher looking, but may not be happy with without the moving bezel. I don't use it much, except when cooking or timing short things like cooking. I know its not meant for that, but I do use it to time things. I travel all the time and work in different time zones, so the GMT functions indispensable for me. The Day-Date I have is a 118206 platinum. It feels too heavy on me for everyday use. My wife lives it, so I had it sized for her. I sold the Blusey as the bright, flashy quality as cool for me as a young man, but less so in my semi-retired, older guy lifestyle. So for me it is either continue to wear the BLNR or add the 226570 with the the intent of giving the BLNR to my daughter, who loves it, when she finishes her master's degree. What a delema! lol
Thank you so much for the kind words and for subscribing-I’m glad you enjoyed the video! It sounds like you’ve got a fantastic collection with pieces that each tell their own story. The 226570 is definitely a bold choice, and with your wrist size and flat top, it might actually wear better than expected. If you get a chance to try it on, that would help a lot with deciding. It’s true the lack of a rotating bezel might take some adjusting if you’ve been using it for everyday tasks like cooking. The GMT function is a lifesaver for frequent travelers, and it seems like it’s already a big part of your routine with the BLNR. The Explorer II is rugged and brushed, which fits a more understated lifestyle, but giving up the bezel timer might be a trade-off. Passing the BLNR to your daughter sounds like a meaningful gesture, especially with her education milestone. Maybe the best solution is to keep enjoying the BLNR for now and test-drive the 226570 to see if it fits both your wrist and lifestyle. Either way, it’s a ‘dilemma’ most watch enthusiasts would envy!
I have this watch, I love it too. I also have 2 GMT's, I would sell the Explorer 1 and the Submariner and get the GMT. Keep the Explorer 2 and the GMT with Jubilee and you will have all you need. Explorer 2 for work and GMT for dress.
Great video. To be honest you should wear what represents you. In my opinion the ruggedness of the Polar looks a lot better than a watch with a ceramic bezel in and out of any event 😉 In my view the Explorer II is more you. But hey! All about what you 0:01 feel comfortable with in the end. 😀
Food for thought. The Explorer II is the only white dial watch you have. Maybe let the submariner go and keep some color variety in your collection. You have a lot of great watches, so you win no matter what you decide!
I think you would really regret selling your Explorer II. It’s such a unique watch & it’s been through a lot of your adventures! Might I say, that is a fine hat. I just got myself a green Tilley LTM6 for hiking & camping; I love it.
Cheyne - absolutely NOTHING wrong with this video, whatsoever. Always love your content!! My humble suggestion: Agree with you on the size and overall 'bulkiness' of the 6-digit, but have you considered the 5-digit variant but with the 3186 movement? This is what I did - I was very specific about wanting the smaller case size but it absolutely had to have that 3186 movement inside. The other thing that I did (because I'm a total sucker for white dial / black hands watches) was I bought the white dial Seamaster Professional 300m and I have found the movement to be an absolute monster that can take huge ranges of weather conditions, knocks and hits. This is my largest watch but because of the case shaping, it actually 'fits' better than the 6-digit Ex2. For the more formal settings I have an older Seamaster Aqua Terra and a 5-digit submariner.
Very good, I'll have to look into that. I went with the newer movement because of its beefed up protection against magnetism. Do you have any issues with that on your 3186? I'm just in and out of airport all the time. Yeah I'm the same with white dials. You have a great watch collection, Cheers
@@cheynewalls NO issues with the 3186 - it's actually those reasons I wanted that movement because of the blue Parachrom hairspring. It gives it very good/very high anti-magetism properties as well as better shock protection vs the 3185. Most people think the 3186 only offers the GMT hand fix (it doesn't wobble when adjusting time) but it was a much bigger upgrade than that. They also used the 3186 movement in other Rolex Sport models in the early-to-mid 2010's, too. And thank you! Yeah I've done a whole collection purge a couple of times but I think i've nailed it and I feel I'm covered for all occasions now... Although I HAVE been eyeing the Breitling Aerospace EVO Night Mission lately as I think it's just a kick-ass looking watch (Plus the super-quartz movement is thermo-compensated to resist changes in temperature, too) - another one to maybe have a peek at, perhaps??
Your right, but I'm in a unique position, as well as I'm not a celebrity. There is some crazy watch "etiquette" I have been introduced to at some of these art and or fund raising events. I'm not sure if it because of my RUclips Channel, but I've had many encounters about proper dress watch attire. Cheyne, the Explorer II is so perfect fit for you out in the wilds with your cargo pants and check shirt, it is just you, you embody that watch that watch is you and you’ve championed it for so long. A GMT Master II would be so out of place, yes fine for the gallery but otherwise it’s just shiny jewellery it’s not a tool watch. You clearly want the GMT so it’s a tough call, maybe lose the Submariner & the Explorer 40 but hell they are both incredible watches particularly the Explorer. I actually have the same problem as I own all those watches myself along with a DJ41 and I also want the GMT Master II but I’m not selling any of them I know I’d regret it.
All very well said, love that "with your cargo pants and check shirt the Rolex Explorer II is the perfect fit". Yeah I get what you are saying and after these two weeks (not to mention the last 3 years) with the Rolex Explorer II I don't think I'll be able to get rid of it. I feel that way about all my watches, hopefully art sales pickup and I can just add the GMT-Master II without losing any of my current watches. Thanks for your thoughtful insight, Cheers
Nice shoot buddy! I don't think you'd come across as unsophisticated these days wearing an E2 to a gallery, or even a gala! That said, I'm not a fan of E2 in the outdoors, for the reasons you describe. I find it too bulky with outdoor clothing and equipment, the same reason I'm not such a fan of the modern Sub (just sold mine). Just a bit overbuilt for me. The pre-ceramics were so much more svelte and unobtrusive. And that's why I like the Explorer (36) - literally, a watch for any occasion and practically (outside caving) tough enough for anything. I prefer its proportions (negative space etc) to the 40, but that, like a good landscape photograph, is subjective! What about the Speedmaster Pro - more legible than any Rolex and the chronograph would be useful for exposure timing. No worries wearing that for dress occasions either. And it is far tougher and more waterproof than people give it credit for (err, NASA??). The new FOIS looks a peach, but less legible for the time (chrono is good).
Thank you, Yeah, love my Rolex Explorer II, but like you mentioned after 3 or 4 days on the wrist its becomes a bit cumbersome, I also love the Rolex Explorer 36 and 40. I'm just missing that date function. If I'm going on a two week excursion out into the wilderness, it would nice to know the date, keep track on when I need to head back into town. I was very much looking into getting an Speedmaster Pro, but I'm a little unsure of it's limited 50 meters of water resistance. All my other watches rated for 50 meters I have flooded when jumping or diving into water. Cheers
I just picked up a White Speed Master Professional and it’s making me rethink my Rolex purchases. I have the same watches you have instead of an Explorer 1 I have a OP. Thinking about slimming down my collection too. Just don’t know what to cut.
I would go so far and sell everything else but the Explorer II. That thing fits perfectly from what we are seeing in your videos. Nothing is cooler than being associated with a watch having a „signature watch“. The more watches in a collection the more watered down is the experience. Also I am a fan of wearing watches that fit to a Person. No need to press a dress watch into something only because some snob thinks that it looks better.
I love my leather and nato straps, but I want to mostly keep the watch on the bracelet for durability, I once sliced a nato strap on a rock and almost lost the watch. Plus I love the scratches the bracelet picks up. Cheers
@@cheynewalls I have both, and if I were you I would lean towards the jubilee since you haven't tried one yet. That's why I suggested keeping all until you've made up your mind, but since your in a need to decide, maybe go with the jubilee. I am sure you would end up buying other watches down the line even if your doing the one watch mode now, and though the oyster is a more rugged make, the jubilee will hold up just as well. Happy hunting!
@@maruataro9960 I agree with that, the Jubilee feels very comparable while wearing for a minute at the Rolex AD and like you said I have never had a watch with that bracelet. Cheers
You better keep all of the watches and then get the Bruce Wayne. I have a similar collection and will be adding more without letting go of any. Lastly, your photograph is fantastic.
Thank you for that, love my job. Yes that is goal, I really hope to keep all these watches, hopefully art sales pick up to make that a viable option. Cheers
Great video and pictures again! Well, you and me we both have relatively big wrists. So I am really astonished that you feel uncomfortable with the Explorer II every day an maybe night. Okay, a 40 or 41 mm Rolex is a little, but only a little bit more comfortable. But for me the difference is too small to not go with this great last Rolex toolwatch. Have a nice day, PROST!
Thanks you! Its only after wearing the Rolex Explorer II for 3 or 4 days in a row without taking it off is when it becomes unconformable. Day to day its a very conformable watch. PROST!
I told you in the previous video, the GMT Master 2 can be a one watch collection. It has the GMT and rotating bezel. The one thing missing is the glidelock in the clasp. If it ever gets the same micro adjustable clasp, I will be the 1st one to get one. The Easy link is just not sufficient for a sports watch nowadays. C'mon Rolex.
@@cheynewalls true, but the PCL is tough to get used to if you want to use it daily. I think the Jubilee would be perfect. Personally I'm going back from the GMT Master 2 to the Explorer 2 black dial. I missed the legibility of the Explorer 2. Going with the black dial instead of the white dial allows the watch to be more subtle and classy while it's still toolish.
James Cameron always wore a submariner, even in a tux. Watches are like whiskey, there’s no right or wrong way. It’s what you like however you like it.
Hi Cheyne, you don’t have to apologise for what you feel is poor quality lighting you are in the wild, and it’s fantastic that you show your watches how they should be used I think you will find it hard to let the two Explorers go one has a lot of memories and the other fits in anywhere So my own opinion for what it’s worth is that the Sub will be leaving Another great video keep up the good work and keep doing what you enjoy
The submariner has a timer which is great for timing things, the gmt master’s bezel does not time things rather it is to add a third time zone. So how would the GMT master cover the job of the submariner?
The GMT Master II has a rotating bezel, I can point the arrow on the bezel. It doesn't have the numbers on the bezel like the Rolex Submariner, but its so helpful if I can mark my starting or ending point with that bezel.
Honestly sell your Rolexes and get a VC Overseas, like you were considering a while ago. If you can swing the Everest model great. There was another adventure photographer who worked with VC and tested the Everest and it worked well for him. And the regular Overseas has the same movements so you know it’s durable and reliable. Get the Dual Time if you need that function and it’s basically your Exp II but much more comfortable (esp on the rubber) and dressier (esp on leather).
Very interesting point, I'll be honest that did skip my mind. I know the Everest is going about 60K on the secondary market but you are right, I could probably get a strait trade for my three Rolex watches for the Overseas. I'll look into it. Cheers

@@cheynewalls LOL. Agreed. Thanks goodness that I only have these terrible First World Problems. hahah
@@Dave-x8j Indeed, Cheers
I have this watch, I love it too. I also have 2 GMT's, I would sell the Explorer 1 and the Submariner and get the GMT. Keep the Explorer 2 and the GMT with Jubilee and you will have all you need. Explorer 2 for work and GMT for dress.
I like that, great 1 - 2 punch. Thanks for your input, Cheers
Great video. To be honest you should wear what represents you. In my opinion the ruggedness of the Polar looks a lot better than a watch with a ceramic bezel in and out of any event 😉
In my view the Explorer II is more you. But hey! All about what you 0:01 feel comfortable with in the end. 😀
Cheers to that, thank you for your thoughtful input.
Food for thought. The Explorer II is the only white dial watch you have. Maybe let the submariner go and keep some color variety in your collection. You have a lot of great watches, so you win no matter what you decide!
@@peytonbiggs yeah all great watch. Thank for thoughtful input
I think you would really regret selling your Explorer II. It’s such a unique watch & it’s been through a lot of your adventures!
Might I say, that is a fine hat. I just got myself a green Tilley LTM6 for hiking & camping; I love it.
Indeed, a fine hat. Yeah you are right I have so many remembers with this Rolex Explorer II. Cheers
The Tudor FXD GMT could fit for your purpose when being outside
Yeah, Good looking new watch from Tudor, I'll look more into it. Cheers
@@AmitBhandari82 Good to know and very interesting! Thank you, Cheers
Tom Hardy, Prince Harry and John Cena have all worn the EXP 2 polar to formal events, I think you can do it.
Your right, but I'm in a unique position, as well as I'm not a celebrity. There is some crazy watch "etiquette" I have been introduced to at some of these art and or fund raising events. I'm not sure if it because of my RUclips Channel, but I've had many encounters about proper dress watch attire. The guy I spoke about on my last video, he was rude about it, but it got me thinking if he is saying it, how many people are thinking it. It is a small matter, but one I have to keep in-mind as someone who makes a living as an artist, people aren't only buying my work, there investing in me as the artist. Cheers
Don’t get rid of this one, it’s a keeper
Cheers
Love the process of watch purchase justification 😊
Cheers

All good points, thanks for your insight.
Would a nato strap in place of steel bracelet be more comfortable for your week long wear?
Btw I also thought of the same a couple of times. Back and Jack ribbed nylon straps will be fantastic for this watch.
I love my leather and nato straps, but I want to mostly keep the watch on the bracelet for durability, I once sliced a nato strap on a rock and almost lost the watch. Plus I love the scratches the bracelet picks up. Cheers
Thanks for that.
which bracelet are you considering for the GMT master 2, the jubilee or the oyster?
That is a tough on, on one hand I'm thinking Oyster for the toughness on the other for comfort I'm thinking Jubilee. Your thoughts, Cheers
Cheers
Brother. Keep the polar. I feel like the sub could go. Bring in the GMT M2.
Thanks for your input, Cheers
I think you might be right. I can't wait to get a Rolex GMT Master II in my hands to see if it could be my one watch collection. Cheers
@@cheynewalls are you getting the one with jubilee or oyster band?
@@dstjoe I'm not a 100% sure yet. I think the oyster with be more robust, the jubilee more conformable.
Love this, "Watches are like whiskey, there’s no right or wrong way." I'm going to have to use that, thanks for your insight, Cheers
Hi Cheyne, you don’t have to apologise for what you feel is poor quality lighting you are in the wild, and it’s fantastic that you show your watches how they should be used
I think you will find it hard to let the two Explorers go one has a lot of memories and the other fits in anywhere
So my own opinion for what it’s worth is that the Sub will be leaving
Another great video keep up the good work and keep doing what you enjoy
Thank you Dale, Yeah I agree with you. We will have to see, Cheers
Cheers
The glass on the gmt or sub will break before the ceramic.
Yeah, I can't believe how tough the ceramic is on the Rolex Submariner is.
Having listened to you talking about that watch I’m convinced you would be better suited with a timex. A copy timex at that.
Use to wear a Timex watch, but it broke after only a few days in the field.
