I was originally searching for how to get rid of that awful high pitched tone and stumbled here where I found I have a fake and it's too late to return :( Glad I saw this anyway, thanks for sharing!
Gadgets & Gear with Greg Thanks! I guess I can look into that, but I’d almost rather save the time and shell out the money for the real one? At least I know now lol
They have improved. They now have a S/N sticker at the back. My friend actually successfully registered the warranty :D But hers have a chinese sticker
So hi, I bought a Rode mic some time ago, I realized the color is slightly different. Realizing the price is too good (less than 50%) I thought it was fake. To test it, I decided to register the product to Rode, and to my surprise, it was successfully registered. My product has the exact same Chinese sticker underneath. Perhaps it was not fake, just a different variant (downgraded version) to be sold in the Chinese market, keeping the price competitive. Still, it would be better to be cautious.
I bought one "used" with a free deadcat over a month ago on eBay for $150. The mic did not ship on time (Was coming from Gainsville Florida to New York) so I opened up a case to get my money back. I finally got a refund yesterday, and bought a Rode Videomic Pro+ new from MusiciansFriend yesterday. Funnily enough, the eBay one actually delivered today and it did not come with a box. But it does show all the signs of being fake on the actual mic. I basically got a free mic, and I tried it out and it does have that high frequency. It's better than the Canon T3i's built-in mic which means I'll still use it as a backup mic or a second one possibly. PS: I did hear the high frequency slightly, but I have my headset in pretty loudly.
Glad to hear you got yourself a legit mic! Also nice to get a "free" backup too, almost anything is better than the built-in mics (I have a T6i, and its onboard mic isn't great either)
I registered my RODE VideoMic Pro before I see this video. I put all the data on their coloum Iist, and I even found the chineese distributor in their list, so I put the SN too, and they are juat working fine. And now my RODE mic has its warranty for next 10 years. I also tested it and working just fine and well funtioned as its features. I bought this one, that considered in this video as the fake one. Well I dont know which one is right, but that's the fact I have and I don't complain about it. Just share.
Thanks for sharing! If you were able to register it, it must have been genuine. I'm sure there are plenty of Chinese distributors that are legit, I unfortunately did not buy from one of them thought.
Gadgets & Gear with Greg you're welcome Greg.. all the mic's physical looks is exactly the same as you describe as fake ones, like the big RODE Logo looks faded, SN is not well-centered, and others that considered indicate fake ones. Well maybe Im just the lucky one, cheers.
Me too, I bought my camera and mic with my extremely hard earned money and the seller is nice to return because they also called it a "fake" and "not genuine" in the mailing process, I also got it cheap like 140$..., But there's a catch, there isn't a noticeable sound difference in the video though :(((((
HEY ! If you watch the video on the RODE channel presenting the NEW videomic pro vs the old model, probably, probably what you show as fake is only the new model. Watch: ruclips.net/video/O4lE6Mrj81Q/видео.html
Yeah you gotta be cautious when buying from non authorized places. I bought a Shure mic from a guy selling locally and I could never get it stop clipping when singing loud into it. Sent pics to Shure and they said it was a counterfeit.
I MIGHT HAVE BOUGHT A FAKE PRODUCT Rode Wireless Go 2 What are the clues that would tell me it's fake? There's no UPC barecode. But I entered the S/N on the website registration and the numbers check out. What else should I check?
Hello ! great video thank you. I would like to ask you: I bought this microphone (fake) at 170 euros thinking that it is a real one, it is difficult to be reimbursed since I live in Morocco. Is the microphone drinkable or there is a big difference between the 2? thank you so much !!
I just purchased a Rode Videomic Pro Plus microphone from an eBay seller for the same price as the B & H store ($ 299.00) + free shipping, but it comes from a seller in China. I'm afraid it's fake. The seller assured me that he only works with original products. But even so, I have my doubts. In my country the tax on an imported product is very high (60% on the value of the product and the freight). If I pull out of the post office and get taxed and the microphone is fake, I can complain to eBay. But will the value of the tax be reversed as well?
That's a tricky situation! Just because it comes from China doesn't necessarily mean it's fake (there are some Chinese sellers on Rode's vendor dropdown menu when you are registering). The fact that you paid full price is (hopefully) a good thing, it seems most of the fakes are cheaper! Hope it all works out!
Yes they are, you mean those with the red mounting? I almost bought one from a guy in Quebec, he told me it's original until I have seen the plastic socket and the bad unclear RODE print on the foam. F**K CHINA!
My idiot friend just bought a fake from amazon and is spending a lot of energy convincing me he didn’t, but his mic really sucks. Hiss, static, clipping and lots of other audio glitches

oh no! sorry to hear that. you might have some luck removing that tone using the Spectral Frequency Display in Adobe Audition, if you have it!
Gadgets & Gear with Greg Thanks! I guess I can look into that, but I’d almost rather save the time and shell out the money for the real one? At least I know now lol

Thanks man, you just saved me from buying a counterfeit! Props.

Hey how can I registe my RODE VideoMic ????!!
Yeah you gotta be cautious when buying from non authorized places. I bought a Shure mic from a guy selling locally and I could never get it stop clipping when singing loud into it. Sent pics to Shure and they said it was a counterfeit.
Thank you very helpful, my mic arrived and it’s genuine.
You're very welcome. Glad I could help!
Thank u
Just returned one bought from Amazon
Thank you very much ❤❤❤❤
I MIGHT HAVE BOUGHT A FAKE PRODUCT
Rode Wireless Go 2
What are the clues that would tell me it's fake?
There's no UPC barecode.
But I entered the S/N on the website registration and the numbers check out.
What else should I check?
This is so informative and nicely done video. Thank you
Happy to be of service!

So that's why on eBay those rode mics are less in price compare to Amazon BNH and adorama
Exactly. I tried to save some money and it was the wrong choice!
Do you do any post processing on your audio? The blue yeti sounded comparable if not better than the rode
nice sir
I wonder if they are faking the lower (non pro) model...
Yes they are, you mean those with the red mounting? I almost bought one from a guy in Quebec, he told me it's original until I have seen the plastic socket and the bad unclear RODE print on the foam.
F**K CHINA!
I wouldn't put it past them. If it's a hot seller, then somebody's gonna knock it off!
Helpfull !
Thank you so much. I just received a fake product from Amazon Prime. It's not sold by Amazon but still...
glad I could help!
Yeah Amazon said they try to keep the bad sellers off of there as much as possible.
Appreciated :-)
would have loved to have heard a sound comparison anyway
I tried! RUclips's compression algorithm seems to have removed the high pitch whine (around 17.7KHz) that I mentioned. 😭
My idiot friend just bought a fake from amazon and is spending a lot of energy convincing me he didn’t, but his mic really sucks. Hiss, static, clipping and lots of other audio glitches
thanks dude i just got had.. so pissed
You're quite welcome. I was pretty ticked too! Can't believe eBay still lets these get sold.

eBay is the devil 😈
