The newer VideoMic Pro and VideoMic Pro Plus both have a Rycote Lyre suspension system and are very similar overall, except in price. In the video you will get a clear overview of the specification- and sound differences between these two very popular shotgun microphones for video, that you can mount on your camera. In this video, I will talk about differences in audio specifications, mic build, power options, and recording modes. Of course, throughout the whole video, you will be able to listen to the audio samples of both the Rode VideoMic Pro and the Rode VideoMic Pro Plus. There will also be a sound test of the different modes (high-pass filters and high-frequency booster) on both the Rode VideoMic Pro and the Rode VideoMic Pro Plus.

Thanks for putting this together this was exactly what I was searching for. For a future video is it possible to have less background noise? I wanted to make a decision based on clarity of sound but the background noise was too loud for me. I'd love to see more of your content!

Thank you for this video....I have never heard of the term " clip" before...does that mean when I am filming a video this mic ( I have the Pro) will drop my soundtrack?
Clipping means that the recorded audio hits the maximum/ceiling and thereby loses quality. This results in a distorted sound. You should aim for a -6db output so you have a bit of room before "clipping" the sound.

Salut, j'adore ce que tu proposes. J'ai une question importante. Bien que je ne connais quasi rien aux micros pour l'instant, j'aimerais savoir si le Pro serait adapté voire bien pour filmer des scènes de course automobile sur circuit.
Les voitures sont aux alentours de 100-120dB environ.

Les deux micro marches bien comme ca vu qu'elles ont un booster + ou - 10dB- mais le pro+ va fonctionner mieux contre les piques
Do you recommend the Sennheiser MKE600 or the Rode Video Mic Pro Plus?
Well, as far as I know the Sennheiser needs an XLR. So that would make the Rode an easier option for cameras without an XLR port.

@@PierceJordan Hmm, looks like it does indeed! I've seen different people favor different microphones. In the end it is all about which sound you like most. I would say, rent them both for a day, and find out which one you like more.

Question: For the Pro Plus, have you tried recording from say six feet away (in an interview situation?) Will it capture audio effectively from that distance?
Did try it. It is usable, but not great. Best is to boom it from above.
Hi I have had the RODE videomic then upgraded to the RODE videomic pro then upgraded it to the RODE videomic pro plus. As I constantly shoot outdoors, for example cruise ships coming into port, I seem to be having huge problems eliminating the strong incessant wind noises that all these mikes pick up. It is disappointing to say the least. I haven't played with any settings because I don't know how to go about it to reduce the wind noise. Could you or someone enlighten me how I could go about this using the settings on my RODE videomic pro plus please. Thank you
Please get a DeadCat, it will help you. All mics have this issue.
@@felixkruip I already have a a RODE deadcat. And still I am having the problem.
@@TrainLordJC Also use the highpass 150hz filter. You might need a deadcat with longer hair, to mitigate really strong winds.

I just purchased a used video mic pro for 85 bucks I an considering returning to buy a used vmp+ for about double the coat, do you think it's worth it to upgrade while I have the chance or is the regular vmp good enough
vmp for 85 bucks sounds like a good deal! Depending what you are going to use it for, I would recommend getting a boom pole or another accessory for the vmp to increase the sound quality instead of upgrading.

Why would I want the Rode vs a Yeti?
A Yeti is a very hyped mic, but isn't that great. More used for voice-over recordings. If you're looking for a condensor mic, I recommend checking out my video about the Rode NT1. A videomic is a shotgun mic for on your camera to capture audio in the direction that the lens is aimed at, but it could also be used as a boom for voice.
