I visit this park as a Michigander on a yearly basis since 2010. A few years back when I was there, I spoke with a veteran ride operator there who I didn't even know who worked there for so long. I just was asking him about what his favorite ride is, and telling him about my favorite ride to. (We were coincedently standing in front of the old spot of the Choas ride where a new ride stands.) So were talking and he then told me "Y'know, this ride right here is fairly new and never used to be there." I asked him what he mean't and he told me the whole story of the Choas ride incident. He told me he didn't see it happen but he was there the day it happened in 2001 as an employee. It was a sad day for them, and it was just during the start of Cedar Fair's ownership and operation of the park aswell which wasn't a good start for the Cedar Fair ownership. I was always trying to find pictures and videos of the ride before the accident and the following news coverage for my own entertainment, and besides 2 photos I found of the ride after the crash, this was the only actual video I could find, so thanks for posting this!
I was there that day and in line for the ride with my stepbrother. The ride had been closed earlier in the day due to mechanical issues. They reopened it a few hours later and this happened.
