I have the Micro ATX version of this board and I'm very impressed with it. It runs 4 DIMMs of DDR 4000 in Gear 1, but I wasn't able to go higher in gear 2, so I'm a bit skeptical of the 5333 claim. Mine has 10 x SiC654. VRM maxes out at 75 with an overclocked i7. I can't test higher because I can't cool more than 250 W without throttling. I expect your board to handle a 12900KS easily. Z690 supports 10 USB3.x, but half of them are routed to headers. This board has only 6 total rear USB, but front headers for 9 ports. Why? The reason this board only has 4 x SATA is HSIO Group 7. The lanes can only be assigned in groups of 4, so it's either Gen 4 PCI x4 or 4 x SATA. ASUS chose PCIe. I don't know why MSI thinks you need 6 SATA.
Does this mean that if i use all 3 m.2 slots (2nvmes and 1 sata m.2), then a normal sata hdd and an additional sata 2.5” ssd will not work? My sata 2.5” ssd (crucial bx 2tb) is barely working. It is very slow, way slower than my hdd (firecuda hybrid 2tb) most of the time.
For me the price was perfect, I bought this board, but in the DDR5 version as a combo from a store called Micro Center. They were running a special with a Board and Chip Combo, but had run out of all of the Asus Tuff boards with built in WiFi, so they substituted the Prime P. I got a deal for the 12900K, open box for $347.00 and the board was $50.00 and they included a WiFi lan card with built in bluetooth for 1 cent, for a total of 397.01. Everything worked out fine, but like you said the board is sparse.
I'll tell you what made me pass on this board. You see how it's slightly thinner than the ATX spec so it's missing the 3rd row of screws? I remember boards like that from the Slot 1 days where you had to support it from underneath when plugging in the ATX power connector to keep the board from flexing. That always felt cheap to me and made me worry about damaging something.
@@thrashingmetal No. They're not stupid, but they focus on the product and not the user. The board I'm sure can be flexed like that thousands of times with no issue, but it doesn't change the fact that the from the user's perspective, it's a flimsy motherboard
The Asus Prime series has seen a bit of a boost to its VRM design in the past years compared to the z170/270/370/390 days which is vg to see. The Primes design aesthetic has been quite impressive imo 🥰🤩🤯. I would love to have seen at least 2 more USB ports ….either 2.0 or 3.0 types as it seems a bit lean there considering the price being charged this time round for the Intel chipsets.
