The PRIME Z690-A marks a big leap forward when compared to its predecessors. It not only features an accumulation of new standards, but it also shows-off a much more attractive design and finish.
ASUS took this board seriously and gave it some well needed love.
My only regret is a somewhat underpowered VRM, a very basic back IO, and a pricing which gives plenty of room for its competition to flourish.
Enjoy 😊

Actually, I will buy a corsair mp600 pro lpx that comes with a heat sink.

Thank You.
Hello, I'm currently purchasing components for my first PC build. I'm using PC part picker and the their compatibility detection to help me. I bought this motherboard and a Corsair Force MP600 2TB NVMe PCIe SSD. My friend told me that will cause me trouble since both the ssd and mobo have heatsinks. I am wondering what you think of this? He said I could take the heatsink off the mobo but it won't be as aesthetically pleasing or modular.

I just got mine, and it is detecting a keyboard without one connected... do you have any solution ?

So I ordered a 32gb ddr4 kit and a Rog Strix Z690-A Gaming ( unfortunately at a markup) which came out to around $610 but I just managed to snag a Prime Z690-A and 32GB of DDR5 in a bundle for $708. Do you think Keeping the DDR5 board and ram and returning the DDR4 setup would be the right move here?

When PRIME Z690-A D4 will be released?
Hi, I noticed on Z690 Prime-A website that the ddr5 ram supports up to 6000 mhz. Does this mean it won’t be able to reach 6200?
You can always try to push them with over voltage. So motherboards can go a little behind advertised specs.
Phenomenal Review, makes me buying it! Asus owes you one.

How many argb fans can we connect to a single argb header? Is 6 safe?
I'm confused inbetween gigabyte b550 aorus pro v2 vs strix b550f gaming. I like the gigabyte but the need to flash bios is scary.
What will you suggest? (Both boards are same price)
maximum 5 fans per connector. More and you'll burn the connector and irreversibly damage the board.
I d go for the cheapest of them two. They are very similar in performances, even though I have a slight preference towards ASUS which did an amazing job with they STRIX series on B550 chipsets.
is it ok with ddr4 ram ?
can this mb fit the noctua nh d15 chromax black cpu cooler
Do a review of the maximus extreme if possible
Does this support ddr4 ram?
If you use unity, this board is fantastic. easily overheated VRM's on am4 and intel board, this board's VRM stays cool as heck even when throwing a big workload at it, and no overheat means no throttling!! lovin it. i712700kf, 64gbDDR5 4800, rx6800.

I thought of getting the MSI pro z690-a wifi, but then I noticed that the prime z690-a was going for just a little more (non-wifi model). Should I go for the Asus or stick to the MSI board?
Stick to asus z 690a if wifi is un- necaassay for you. I think audio codec too are different. But if don't make any difference. MSI is durable and long lasting.
@@HarvinderSingh-yy8th yup, I had ordered the MSI, cancelled it and built my pc with the Asus, happy with my decision.
@@HarvinderSingh-yy8th Is the MSI more durable than this ASUS board? The audio codec on the MSI Z690-A is on a budget, that's the reason I might switch to the ASUS Z690-A.
Hi Laurent, Thanks for the review, top class! I have a question for you: Why on God's green and blue earth are you so DOWN on SATA 3 ports being on MoBos?? I can understand how a few may not need the storage but what's the alternative? You have enough M2 slots now on these Z690s so no complaints for you there. But the cost of high capacity M2s is prohibitive still. Where are you going to store some terabytes of data on the family computer if they get rid of SATA? Video editors who create 4K & 8K files, family people with lots of photos and 4K vid files and many more uses and reasons that much storage is needed in everyday computing. What are these people to do if SATA goes away. SATA 7,200rpm drives are the absolute best value and for storage the case can be argued that the 5,400 low power versions are more than adequate. So, why so down on SATA mate? I, for one, would be lost without it. For my vid editing I have some tasty WD Gold 18TB and Ultrastar 14TB drives. They're reliable as the sun, cost only $45AUD per TB and are a solid mature technology solution. I have WD HDDs that are 12 years old and still in perfect health. What's not to like unless you rely on them as a rabid gamer, which most don't.
You are correct on all the points .
My real issue... what truly bugs me is not the SATA standard which is great. But the fact that it never got its long promised update (SATA IV).
I simply don't get it.
Either manufacturers updates the standard or they replace it. But keeping us on a 6gbs standard when we are dealing with PCIe 4 and 5 roll out... is beyond me.
@@Laurentschoice Maybe now with NvME/M2 drives they don't see a need to put money into HDD tech to speed it up. Maybe the manufacturers see HDDs as 'storage only' and are content to use M2 drives for the boot drive to play games and drive the computers with reliable SAT just sitting there ready to kindly store any data. It IS odd though, why they don't create the SATA 4 and beyond - if you look at the current evolution in HDD tech there's some absolutely amazing cutting edge tech going on. Look at helium drives (yes, years old now but still) and look at the work Seagate is doing with multiple actuator arms and WD is doing with the Ultrastar and Gold 20TB drives - just stunning tech. Why they don't make the transfer rate faster than SATA 3 is also beyond me too.
I'm on the Z370-A Prime with my 8700k still going strong.
Awesome combo :)
I love my Prime Z370-A ... loved it !!!
Yup me too, same combo. But it's time...pulled the trigger on a 12700K cpu...on its way from amazon at $419. But the mobo...struggling to choose... all so expensive!
@@TheDesertsweeper I had same combo. Been amazing. But I got the newegg shuffle with the ddr5 and carbon MSi z690. Was looking at 12900k but have 12700k in the cart ready to go. Excited for the upgrade.
@@jonathaneberlein5650 I landed up getting the ASUS TUF Z690 and I must say - this thing absolutely decimates my 8700K, even with DDR4 so yours is going to really rock the Kasba

I have a Corsair h150i Elite Capellix AIO, it comes with a mounting bracket for 115X socket. Do I need to get an adapter to mount my AIO in this motherboard? I'm aware this has LGA 1700 socket
Yes you do. The space between the CPU roof and the AIO copper plate is toi high for them to touch if u do not use an adapter.
It is as if there was no cooler on the CPU at all
@@Laurentschoice ok thank you very much, I will search for an adapter then.

hey guys, im just a layman, who knows very little about computers. I installed this bad boy with a 12th gen i9. Under stress, my cpu gets to 79 celsius. Is that bad? should i switch to water cooling (im running a basic after market cooler master)?
Should I get the Asus Tuf Gaming Z690 Plus Wifi ?
Or the ROG Strix Z690-A ?
I can’t choose :/ I heard the ROG strix has better audio and is better in general when it comes to performance and functionality… but all my other components are mainly black and I have a 3070ti Tuf Gaming branded and my case is Tuf branded as well… but that isn’t a reason to also buy a Tuf motherboard right? I mainly focus on performance and better audio, OC potential or VRM.. and power.
There is big difference between these 2. The TUF supports DDR4 memory.. Tey strox DDR5... just that will heavily affect ur performances.
I d go strix any day.
@@Laurentschoice I mean between the ROG Strix Z690-A Wifi D4 which is also ddr4 like the Tuf gaming one(the white ROG strix board)
So you recommend me not to buy any of the two and just go for ddr5??? (I’m tight on a budget for ddr5.. but idk).
Which ddr5 Board do you recommend then? Or which one of the Tuf gaming or ROG strix ddr4 Board is the better choice?
Thank you for your answer :)
Well if ur going to upgrade to alderlake and spend the money on a new mobo and CPU... might as well sell ur DDR4 and pay the difference for DDR5.
The best valued iv seen so far is z690 AORUS PRO that I have reviewed last week.
@@Laurentschoice but if I want to make a full Asus setup… which one would you recommend for me? :)
I know Asus is a bit overpriced … but that’s okay for me so far .. other brands offer better value ^^ and yeah, might as well consider ddr5..
I wonder which Asus motherboard would be a good choice then for me? For my Asus setup?
Thank you so far for helping me :)
Have u looked at the strix z690-f gaming.? I reviewed it 2 weeks ago
At the moment ddr5 isn't really doing to much tbh it's not worth it. But getting a board and ddr5 will help for in the future.

Absolutely !!!! Glad to see I'm not the only on to think so :)
@@Laurentschoice what is your thoughts on DDR4 memory speeds with 12th gen 12900k's? I've seen a bunch of videos showing 4800 mhz but its hard to come by. I got 5.3 GHz on my 12700k on this motherboard I love it and I got it on a discount for 200 USD so am not complaining about any missing feature.
Hey, I'm thinking of buying this as my new mobo as it's white and seems to have some really good features but have gotten more and more unsure, would you say it's worth it, how ahs it been for you?
@@hevz6339 it has been running for 2 weeks now, and the main reason that I bought this one is the color I have my build white and black and it fits perfectly.
The performance in motherboards is negligible for me and not worth looking at it it I was more interested in the number of NVMe slots that I can fit in it specially with the news of direct storage coming to PCs, if you you would like wifi with it you can get the new version of this one that has wifi and Bluetooth.
But the main thing to ask is do you really want the ddr5 ( for me I got them used for a good price ) as the price is really high compared to the performance.

@@Laurentschoice That's the F-version which is a lot more expensive variant. Not sure what is better about it.
Ah got you.
Difference is a slight watered down VRM on the A :) about 10% less power
I have to say this: i have rma 3, i repeat 3 gigabyte mainboards z690, they have so much issues with the ram ddr5 compatibility like no other mainboard with the z690 chipset and msi has a audio issue, they snaps sometime on video, games and music.
I choosed now those asus for following reasons: price, good enough vrm (i don't need OC on my 12900k, is strong enough, the only thing i do is undervolting for better temps), no audio issues reported, stunning looking and lga 1200 cooler compatibility (asus is the only one do that).
