A review of the Canon EF-M 32mm F1.4 STM lens, the newest lens option out from canon for the M series. I'll be using it on the Canon m50 camera body and taking a look how it performs with photography and video, especially with low light and quick moving subjects. Jump right in and let me know what you think of this lens and review!

Can you do a review comparing both prime lenses (22mm vs 32mm)
@@HarleyDavidsonJMD The 32mm is arguably the best lens out there for the ef-m mount system, at least when it comes to photography. If you don't mind the price it beats the boosted setup for sure. If you need a fast AF for video there are better options as well.
I just wanna say that i love these real life tests that you've done with these lenses. Keep it up! 😊♥️
Awesome! Glad you love it and thanks for watching Gamboa 😎
Got to say this is one of the informative reviews i have seen. Just the really useful info I need before buying this expensive lens. Seeing is believing and this review does just that. Thanks.
You released this video the day I got my copy of this lens, and before I enjoy watching it I already know what a fabulous lens Canon has made for the M system.
You have a great voice and presence in your video! Great review. Trying to decide between efm 22mm and 32mm....
Thanks! Currently I enjoy having both lens options 😉
@@DriveByReviews even I'm thinking of getting the same three lenses.
Very concise and in-depth information. Thank you!
Good hands on review 👍
Can you compare it to Sigma 30 1.4 for E mount on A6400?
i think the sigma 30 f1.4 auto focus seems faster and more quieter
If you had to travel with minimal gear and only one lens for photo and vlog which one would you take ? Debating which lens to buy for travel use without too much bulk as I vlog and also take photos .
22mm f2 seems good
Can you do a comparison video of this 32mm f1.4 vs the 22mm f2?
absolutely!
Agree to this
Is this all shot on Auto? Thank u
New subscriber here. Thanks for the info.
just joined you and like your work stay safe and thanks love the look of this lens
You prefer this over the 22mm? I have the 50mm with speed booster. Worried this might be to close of a length to the 50mm after the crop factor.
32mm is sharper than the 22mm, its probably the best native lens period. For vlogging purposes the 22mm has a more appropriate FOV and the cost is amazing. 32mm is a 51mm FF equivalent while the boosted EF 50mm is a 56.8mm FF equivalent. I'm currently making a comparison video of EFM 32mm vs. EF 50mm boosted. You'll see the difference in detail soon!
I am wary of the 22mm lens. Bought and returned two copies because they fit too tightly on my M50. And very, very hard to dismount. Has anyone else had a similar problem with the 22MM? Anyway, since I don't vlog, the 32mm will be of better use for portraiture and general use, in spite of the higher cost. I will wait a few months; expect the price to come down. Your review makes me want to jump and get it right away.
@@rajoochatlani9022 just got mine - therefore, the price will probably go down tomorrow!!
@@zenarobinson3851 Ha Ha! Been six months and the 32mm price still hasn't gone down. Not that it matters to me. I bit the bullet a few months ago and bought the lens. Its the best lens ever. I have used several L lenses and this one easily matches their performance, even outdoes some of them.
I feel like scrapping my other M lenses; this one is so good, I just don't want to take it off my M50. Cheers.
wow. i like it ! question i have the M50 eos camera and i want to use the filter ""MEIKE CPL" Cincular Polarizeding Filter for canon Ef to EOS R CAN I USE. to look like a cinematic video! ? Thank you! and can i steel use the 50mm lens and the 32mm lens?
Is the video AF speed not adjustable? I think it's slow on purpose to avoid quick jumps which might look bad on video.
Well keep in mind I was shooting wide open at f1.4 so the DOF was very shallow making the AF speed as slow as it can get. There's no specific speed settings for the AF but single point AF does tend to be snappier and deepening the DOF will a slower aperture would increase speed.
I have the 50mm 1.8, i use it with adapter to my m50. Do you think i should get the 32mm? It is a different focal length, but 32mm is a bit faster aperture. Is it worth it for me to add the 32mm? What do u think?
Thanks man, i enjoy your video 😁👍🏼
I'm actually planning on doing a comparison of those 2 in an upcoming video! Keep in mind the speedbooster ends up making the effective max fstop of the EF 50mm 1.2 so technically it's faster, but the native lens should perform better overall.
@@DriveByReviews okay I see, well, i'm just gonna wait for your comparison then. 😁 Thanks for the input
@@IqramMianji testing over the weekend currently, so far the 32mm is sharper with better colors. Looks like price tag still means something
@@DriveByReviews That is interesting. Thanks for the update. What about the weight? Because you need to add an adapter for the 50mm. I'm deciding whether to get the lens or just the speedbooster.
maybe the 50 1.8 with the viltron ef-m2 vs the 32 1.4 > ?
@@DriveByReviews
50mm f1.8 + Viltrox speedbooster would be a better budget option
And the aperture becomes 1.2, another plus. That's why I bought the 50mm + speedbooster and the 22mm for wider shots
How’s the quality? I hear you lose some quality with the xtra glass in front of your lense from speed booster
Watched 6 vids then subbed.
Was the video focus test at 4K or HD?

How close can you get to a subject with this lens?
1:30 I talk about the focus limiter switch that changes the minimum focus range from 0.23 meters to 0.5. Closest you can get is 0.23 m
I like your reviews bro. Just got my 32mm about a week ago and it's really opened up the possibilities of the M50. I debated getting the 50mm/speed booster combo but decided to stay with the native line for now. I will be looking forward to your comparison video of the two. As for the auto focus on the M50 I have had bad luck with it. The face tracking and zone have let me down continuously. The single point is best but I've had situations where I'm shooting a scene and it will just completely lose focus for no apparent reason as well. This has led me to basically stop using the auto focus during most of my scenes. I usually use the single point just to lock focus in and then switch to manual for each clip. I'd say maybe it was a bad camera but I have two M50's and they both do the same thing. I always hear talk about the how Canon DPAF is so great but so far I don't trust it. 😕 You ever have these issues with AF?
It's struggled with shallow depth of field in finding focus with face tracking, and if multiple subjects are on opposite sides of DOF in area AF it can bounce, but I've never had it "lose focus" without reason. It always has a subject within the AF points that makes it focus and is accurate. I haven't seen "hunting" since I moved away from nikon. Are you finding it consistently bad with every lens and every aperture?
Hey man! The dropping focus issue is happening with the kit lens at 3.5-4.0. I'll be shooting indoors (woodworking diy type videos) and I move the cameras to different positions constantly. The shots that loose focus are static. The last time it happened I was cutting at the table saw. The camera was locked on fine for a few minutes then it just goes full on blurry. It's not hunting, it's full blur. It only seems to go for around ten second or so and then comes back but I'm not behind the camera so I don't know it's happening until I'm editing. That's why I rarely use AF with those type shots anymore. I haven't noticed it on the 22 or 32mm but I haven't really used those lenses enough to tell. It doesn't happen all the time but it only took a few wrecked clips to make me shy away from using it the way I thought I would. I keep hoping to discover I have something set up wrong because I'd really like to use it.
@@SlowandExpensive that has never happened to me on the m50, I did see it on the 80D when shooting near minimum focus range. If you're shooting 1080p then it may just be inadequate lighting, if 4k then it's the contrast detect, beyond that you'd have to play around with variables to isolate the issue.
@@DriveByReviews Yeah, I'm all 1080 here! My setup can't handle 4k. I tried it once and I think I could hear my laptop laughing or maybe it was crying, either way it didn't happen! I'm working on getting some better lighting. I wish there was a faster ef-m zoom lens. I really prefer the utility of the zoom over the primes with my style of shooting but the picture seems so much better with the primes. These M50's are my first real cameras and I do like them, so I'm sure I will eventually sort out the AF. Thanks for the tips, I really appreciate it!:)
@@SlowandExpensive I have similar experiences with suddenly not focusing but not that often and usually in low light. And also something I don't notice until editing. In my last video I had to keep such a lost shot in beacuase it was essential for the story :/ After this excellent video I will try switching off face-tracking in low light to see if it helps me.
I left you a comment but never got a response. Is youtube broken or what?
lol, it didn't pop up as a notification and I was partying yesterday so yeah I blame RUclips 😆 nice comment tho lemme know your troubleshooting method so far
