    Hey everyone! This is my comprehensive review of the Canon EF-M 32mm f1.4 STM lens. I use it with my Canon M50, and it's really surprised me. I go over the specs, show a bunch of example photos, auto focus tests, and then talk about the pro's and con's of the lens. Hope you guys dig the review of the Canon 32mm f1.4! Let me know if there are other lenses you want me to review for the Canon M50. I think the Canon M50 gets a lot of love for video, but it's really a fun camera to use for photos, and this EF-M 32mm f1.4 makes all the more fun!

    Great review, it's especially useful to see the camera autofocus with the lens. This is something that is way to often missing from lens reviews. These days almost all lens have great sharpness, but autofocus really is the great differentiator.

    Good points on this lens. I’m loving this one and it’s incredible performing. I sold my 6D and bought a M6II. For casual users is a good team. Picture quality is the best I used for this kind of budget. One negative thing is the slow AF performance. The 32mm is noticeable slower then the kit lense or my 55-200. Especially with the M6II. So it’s harder for shots of moving dogs or kids.

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  4 года назад +3

      I want that M6II!! Haha. Nice combo.

    • @cooloox
      @cooloox 4 года назад +2

      Why is it good "for causal users" ? Arrogant comment. The M6 Mk II is great for all levels of users. I'm not sure what your skill level is, but this camera has no issues taking 80 shot bursts of birds in flight in 30fps raw burst mode and getting every shot in focus. The slow focus you claim of the 32mm 1.4 has no issue keeping up with skateboarders or cyclists coming straight towards the camera at 14fps (photography, definitely not for video LOL). The Sigma 56mm 1.4 keeps up even better. There's nothing 'casual user' about the M6 Mk II and 32mm 1.4 lens combination at all.

      If you’re doing handheld video, and zoomed in, it does make a difference. Camera strap around your neck, tight grip/arms out, and technique goes a longgg way as well. I wouldn’t rule out lenses without OSS.

    Another excellent review my friend. And of course you know I'm a Canon guy and I have multiple Canon cameras. One of which is the M6 and I have a kit lens and the 22 mm F2 which is a fantastic lens as well. The canning glass does seem to be heavy for the most part but some of my cameras like the 1DX MII is a happy camper to start with. I'm still given some serious thought about picking up the Sony a6000 but I'm hearing a lot of good stuff about the a9 II it may give the Canon 1DX M III a run for its money. Thanks for sharing my friend.

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  4 года назад +1

      Thanks for stopping in prepper! I've been seeing a lot of love for the 1DX III. Jared Polin just did an entire video on shooting it like a mirrorless camera, which was very cool to see. I think the A9 II is just slightly behind the 1D X III in shooting speed and buffer, but in all other aspects the A9 II might have it beat (in my opinion of course). I love the lighter setups, and the EF-M and Sony A6k line are two of my favorites. I think the weight of this lens is really due to the glass for the f1.4.
      Also about grabbing an a6000. I know you do longer videos. The a6000 would be a liability for you since it overheats after 15-20 min of recording, and has a recording limit of 30 min. The 6400 - little pricer, is the better option. Flip up screen to check framing, and for video it doesn't overheat and it has no recording limit. I think the 6400 would be the best pick for you videos.

    • @massachusettsprepper
      @massachusettsprepper 4 года назад +1

      @@kyletaggart I seem to the same review by Jared Polin. And I agree with the way you're thinking as well. I do think it would be an interesting video where you compare the Sony and Canon lenses that you talked about in this video. I think that would be some very interesting outcomes for sure.

    I’m looking to buy this camera but confused on which lenses I should purchase. Should I just buy the body and purchase this lense for stills photos or should I purchase this camera with the lensekit it comes with?

    • @kyletaggart
      @kyletaggart  4 года назад +2

      I kind of always recommend getting a camera with the kit lens. It's a zoom range, so you can then get a feel for what focal length you may prefer. If you find yourself zooming in a lot on the kit lens, you'd then look at the 32mm. If you have the budget, the kit lens is usually just a $50 or so difference when added on, so you could get the kit and another lens to start. The 32mm is great for portraits, street photography, and it's nice for evening shots as well. 👍🏻

      The 50mm f1.8 is a classic lens, I love it, but when I started using lenses specifically for mirrorless cameras, it was like whoa…this is what they’re talking about! It’s obviously a little wider of a focal length, but it’s sharp and the fit on the M50 is perfect as it’s made for it. I’d say give it a shot. I haven’t used it with a speed booster personally.

      Not the best in terms of focal length, but if you’re fine with that and it’s an extremely sharp lens. I used it a ton in Canada recently, and posted a fair amount of shots from this lens. For that EF-M lens look (which I love), the sharpness, ability to go down to f1.4 if you need it, it’s a great lens by canon. I enjoy it because I can shoot portraits of my wife, and things like landscapes or street, and I’m happy to not switch to something else the entire day.

      It’s not much of a difference at all. If you wanna do portraits, the 32mm f1.4 is much better than the 16mm for that. For either camera you can get sigma’s 16, 30c and 56mm f1.4 lenses.

      You must not be familiar with camera gear. Lenses are the real investments, not the camera bodies.
