I have this lens, and although it is expensive, for photography it is by far the best lens I have for the Canon M system. The sharpness, colours and depth of field really make the images pop and look very 3D. When I look back at my photos, my favourites were taken all with this lens. If you’re a photographer, try and test one out. As I say, it is expensive though.
another great video zeek, the reason why sigma lens frame still fit in the speedbooster is because sigma want to maintain corner to corner sharpness. the corner for sigma lens are essentially the middle part as other lens are concern and that's why they are so bulky. your discovery of 30mm art sigma for the speedbooster change the game for many of us, essentially bringing two focal lengths for the price of one with high performance from we all know sigma. another one i found works with this method is from tokina 11-16mm i suspect many other sigma lens for crop sensor will work. mind if you do more experiment with other lens
Thanks for sharing :) The older Sigma 30mm ex f1.4 doesn't work with speedboosters apparently, only the art. I'm surprised the 11-16mm Tokina Works, I would think otherwise... The Sigma Art 30mm F1.4 Works perfect on 5D2 as well, no vignette :)
Thank you! I agree 👍 I made this video to give people insight before they consider buying this quite expensive lens. The 7Artisans and even Sigma are great options. I mean for the price of the Canon 32mm F1.4, you could get the Sigma 18-35mm F1.8 💰🤘
Ah Zeek... do you have any idea how gratifying it is to have been watching your vids for a couple of years now? You have rapidly become the most reliable and authoritative source on the in-depth possibilities of the Canon M MILC system. Other channels have targeted content like for vloggers with the EOS M system. But your work both goes deep and shows how to go cheap. But yeah, the bad manual focus would probably be the STM motor, I think; because it is the latency of the electronic motor actuation (since it's not physical). It's one of the reasons that I never bought the STM nifty fifty. I don't mind the noise so much when using an off camera shotgun pointing forward. For that matter, the Yongnuo clone of it is even cheaper. $50 USD is just awesome. Thanks again for your work. Best regards to you and your loved ones.
Thanks a lot, really appreciate the comment 😉. Yeah, wierd how good the 7Artisans lens are built in comparison to some of these expensive lenses. Crazy! 🎥👍
Thanks for the review Zeek. Just as an aside, the Sigma lenses are all made in Japan whereas the Canon is made in Malaysia. The original Sigma 30 1.4 made cropped sensor lenses was what put Sigma back onto the path of righteousness. 20 years ago they were pretty hit and miss quality wise. Now they truly rock.

Why not compare the direct competitor Sigma 30mm f1.4 DC-DN for EF-M? The sigma 30mm EF lens with speedbooster is great, but with a different effective field of view, it has a different purpose. If you compared shots without the speedbooster it would be a close match. Another nearly equivalent combo like the canon or yongnuo 50mm f1.8 EF with speedbooster would be interesting to compare as well. Keep up the good work!
Thanks for the suggestion 👍 I didn't have a purpose to buy the Sigma Ef-m version, because I had the EF Version which I could also use on my Full-frame camera. The sigma with the normal adapter focuses even quicker with the normal adapter, but I just wanted to show how simple focal length lens could be added to a speedbooster to create a full frame type look and at a cheaper price than the 32mm F1.4. Thanks!
Cheers Paul! I didn't even add any post sharpen to the 32mm. The Sigma is about the same in sharpness and in terms of colour, I actually prefer the Sigma with the Speedbooster or even other vintage glass. The build what is a deal breaker for me, and this lens feels quite cheap for the price. I just wanted to share my honest thoughts in case people were thinking about picking this up but weren't sure... The sigma is sick! It will work on Full Frame Cameras no doubt!
I have the sigma with speedboster on my m50 mark ii but its a ff heavy glass i often dismiss it for the 22mm stm in #streetphotography but its a must have horse for low light
I would rather get a nifty 50 because that lens is going to have the equivalent of 51mm and then boom get a speed booster same focal length and depth of field with a speed booster that you can use for other lenses Ex:85 f1.8
I'd say form factor is on the side of the M lens, plus less bulk without the need of the booster. Speaking of which, is it the viltrox you're using? Wouldn't that automatically soften corners?
Even with the booster, it still feels like a light package. The manual focus feel on the 32mm is awkward and laggy. I'm using the Viltrox M2 Speedbooster for EOS M Mount. I also have the Metabones EF to EOS M. The corners are fine stopped down to F5.6 / 8 as is with the 32mm.
You know Zeek, I think you seriously should consider talking to Canon. If Peter McKinnon is the pre-release brand ambassador of the EOS R system, you should be the brand ambassador of the EOS M system. Have them sweeten the deal with throwing you a C500 or something.
I have the canon 32mm f1.4 I thought this has the edge over the sigma on it optical quality but only just and to be fair I also own the sigma 16mm and the 56 mm the build of sigma in my opinion has blown canon m lenses out of the water . I hate the canon focus system its slow over the sigma lenses I own but I just thought it was sharper over the sigma 30mm 1.4 great video 👍
Good review. Coud we use autofocus when we use ML in eos m? Even I choose AF+ML, the EF-M 22mm f2 cannot do autofocus when I half-press the shutter button.
In the ML Menu, #3 Customize Buttons, disable half-press configurations, that should help. You definitely can AF with Half press in video mode. I do it a lot.
