*I'm deaf in my right ear which is why I'm not wearing headphones. I know, it's a bummer not to get the panning sounds. It's also been a bummer to only have one ear my whole life for lots of other reasons, like, playing telephone growing up, I was terrible at it. But, I'll be ok, and I'm getting both channels in the earbud, thanks for your concern :)

Great reaction buddy! I think your analysis of old vs new Deftones is pretty spot on. I’ve been a fan for over 20 years now, and I sometimes feel like some people underrate how good the band’s more recent stuff is because they’re so attached to the older records they listened to when they were young. In that spirit, I’d love to see a few reactions from the last album. I would recommend (L)mirl, Gore, Phantom Bride, or, for something heavier, Doomed User.

As for the whole old vs new Deftones argument, I love all the albums but I can see your point. I wouldn't say Deftones were ever truly a rap/rock nu metal band tho, it was certainly an element of what they did back in the day but even on the "Adrenaline" album, they were definitely were more in the tradition of hardcore bands like Bad Brains and Suicidal Tendencies than the Korn school of nu metal was. A song like "Fireal" was totally outside the realm of what their peers were doing at the time, and I think a lot of the stuff on the first 2 records will surprise you as opposed to the rap-rock stuff which was really just a handful of songs. By the time nu-metal blew up, they had already moved on long before.
As for other early stuff worth a look: "Bored" is one of the early singles that has a video, One Weak, Root is kind of a staple, Birthmark is a favorite as well as the aforementioned Fireal.
The ultimate early Deftones song tho is Teething from The Crow 2 soundtrack, check that one out.

Honestly, every single Deftones song is worth listening & reacting to, feel free to make your pick & most of us will be happy
Haha, yeah it's raw and not overly insightful, poetic, or melodic; but it's a fun song to rage out on if you're in that mood. That's what most of their first album was about. This was the only song I liked in that regard. Of the type of Deftones you (and I) appreciate more, think you'd be doing yourself a disservice if you didn't react to each of Tempest, Diamond Eyes, Hole in the Earth, Beware, Risk, Leathers, and Around the Fur before you moved on. Feel like the Tool suggestions so far have been more of a Best of, and w/ Deftones the songs that specific person liked.

Yes this album was recorded like a live album to get that raw sound then edited to the best quality LP. One the same album try listening to Fireal, or Birthmark and you can see their maturity coming on.
This year deftones are releasing a new album, please react to this when the release, keep your eyes open...

This album is so nostalgic for me...
For me personally this album in it's entirely is just straight nostalgic from my youth... I was straight outta highschool and partying 24/7... I've always been biased to this album.
If you want to have your brain melted and be confused as hell trying to count beats then I suggest Vildhjarta - Den helige anden. The genre is called Djent so it should be some new waters to dip your toes in :D

I wouldnt like Adrenaline if I didnt have nostalgia for it. This album was amazing to 14 year old me.
i know you say it's dated, but if you want to increase the enjoyment of this song to YOURSELF a little bit, look up the tabs and jam the 2 main riffs on your guitar, they're pretty fun... you'll be surprised how simple it is, yet at the same time when you play the one with the sliding power chords if you play in the appropriate E tuning, not drop d... it's actually a little challenging
