I saw and met Stevie Wonder on this tour! I remember camping out for these tickets and was surprised to be by myself on the university campus! As a result I had front row seats. I met him earlier that day when he gave a speech on our state house steps. It was to make Martin Luther King's birthday a national holiday. My friend took pics. His concert was phenomenal! When he played, the show began 45 minutes late at 8:45 and at 2:30AM the show was still going with dancers and everything! I unfortunately had to leave because of a 8AM class with an exam! 😂
The world loves him, in fact we are overjoyed for him and that is no wonder. The best! Not that young though not that old just Stevie at the right time!
Stevie Wonder Classics: "AS"/ I just called to say I love you"/" For once in my life"/Living for the City"/ "You are the sunshine of my life"/ "Higher Ground"/"Latey"/"Creepin"/"Don't you worry bout a thing"/ "Knocks me off my feet".
I believe this song was originally intended for the '79 album "The Secret Life of Plants," but wasn't included because they couldn't fit it in. So it was included on the "In Square Circle" LP, and I think it's the best song on that album, and his best track from the '80s.
Jay & Amber, you will love his " "Boogie On Reggae Woman" and "For Once In My Life" !!!!!!! edit - Overjoyed is from 1985 Stevie album In Circle Square, so not early Stevie, but the greatness continued... Three great male vocalists tonight, great job guys!!!
Stevie Wonder is my all-time favorite artist EVER!!! "As" is a Stevie Wonder Masterpiece and my personal all-time favorite song from him. Check it out! You'll love the song!!!
Stevie has such a rich and prolific catalog. There's so much left for you to discover: "As", "Living for the city", "Isn't she lovely", "Master Blaster", "Don't you worry bout a thing", "Ribbon in the sky", " For once in my life", "Pastime Paradise", "That Girl"...
This is from 1985. Stevie's hottest streak was in the 70s with three consecutive Album of the Year Grammys while he was in his 20s. Here he is coming up on 35-years-old. This album, "In Square Circle" also spawned the No. 1 hit "Part-Time Lover."
Honestly, I don’t think you can have a fav Stevie song. Overjoyed is one of mine, but also Yesterme, Yesteryou, Yesterday and A Place in the Sun. Soooo many
"Overjoyed" by Stevie Wonnder (#24 in 1986) Simply his most underrated song, and his finest work, along with "I Just Called....." I have a "Top 40" list, denoting the Top 40 songs I have ever heard. "Overjoyed" is on that list. The lyrics are incredible and his voice is impeccable. No one would dare cover this gem, because it is flawless!💎
To me this is Stevie's greatest love song, and one of R&B/R&R's greatest songs about unrequited love. It is lyrically clever, insightful, heartfelt, and incredibly well played and arranged. If not the last, to me it is one of the last truly great songs Stevie wrote. Next try his far more upbeat and fun loving "Don't You Worry 'Bout A Thing". "In Square Circle" is one of Stevie's later albums released in 1985.
DO I DO.. 1982 ORIGINAL MUSIQUARIUM double album VERSION 9 minutes of funk, horns, that bass, and around the 4 minute mark--LEGEND DIZZIE GILLESPIE on horns, and him jamming on the harmonica with Dizzie!! ALSO CHECK OUT "So what the fuss" STEVIE AND PRINCE!!! 1 of 2 they collaborated on!!
"As" is his best song and arguably the greatest song ever made. But it's best listened to by playing "If it's Magic" first which comes right before "As" on the album because it sets it up as a question and answer combination between the two songs. And then "Another Star" coming right after the two as the cherry on top to the end of the album. The end of a grammy run of albums. And the culmination of Stevie's overall message of Love as an all encompassing power.
Who doesn’t love Stevie Wonder??? The man is legend! 🙌🏼 Among many, many others, you guys definitely need to react to Isn’t She Lovely and As. Both are equally WONDERful! ❤
3 of my favorite Stevie Wonder songs you guys haven't done yet are "Never Dreamed You'd Leave In Summer", "Happier Than The Morning Sun" and "I Believe (When I Fall In Love It Will Be Forever)". Absolutely beautiful music.
OMG. This song filled my heart with joy first time I heard it. My favorite Stevie song. I once taught myself to play it on guitar. That opening progression was tough! 😳❤️👍🏽
I can't believe that you didn't discuss the lyrics for this song. Stevie's musicality shines through because he is an amazing lyricist. 🎶"For in romance all true love needs is a chance."🎶 Stevie Wonder is a gift to music.
This song is from, what I call the “Post Songs In The Key Of Life” period. After that album. This song was recorded in 1985. From the album “In Square Circle”.
"Ribbon in The Sky" and a song from way back "Hey Love" are great songs in their own right! This is actually Stevie in the 80's, older, and more pop, which he deserved.
Middle age Stevie, remember he was a child prodigy at the age of 13, with billboards #1 hit song “Finger Tips”. Amber would really love that song cuz it has one of her favorite instruments in it. A song full of hope, for love to come. Just simply beautiful harmonics and lyrics . Please bless ur ears and explore this man’s musical talents. He is truly the one and only.
Thanks Jay and Amber for reacting to Stevie Wonder - probably the most under-appreciated national treasure we've ever seen. His heartfelt lyrics and gorgeous melodies rarely fail to open my heart.
I was a young kid when this song came out and I was already a fan of Stevie Wonder - but when this song came out - it changed my life - the springy sound effects with Stevie's stellar voice and piano playing and then the strings come up from the background - I still get CHILLS!!! I also remember this being around the time that Mr. Wonder made a guest appearance on "The Cosby Show" where he invited the "Huxtable Family" into his studio to watch him record some songs. I loved in one scene, Stevie asks a very young and shy "Rudy" to make the sound of a giraffe into his microphone and she makes a funny noise and he used the sound-bit in his keyboard synthesizer to create a funny song! It was cool... Wow - I miss the 80s!! Keep smiling y'all!!
Stevie is IMO one of the 2 or 3 most musical people to have ever lived. Glad to be living during the same time as Stevie!! Love you guys!! You always make me smile
Stevie is a unbelievable talent that comes along very few times in a person's life, and I am so lucky that I was able to enjoy his music, from when he was very young, a true Genius.
Most artist wish they could have one song as good as this. Stevie Wonder in the 70s, 80s, and 90s just seemed to make great songs on the regular. No matter what kind of music I've been into to, I always have Stevie on my playlist.
Oh gosh, another beautiful song is Ribbon in the Sky, and of course the video of George Michael and Mary J. Blige doing Stevie's song, As. Stevie and I are the same age, and I remember his first song...Fingertips. I think he was 13...
Amber's facial expressions to this song are some of her most beautiful thus far and I had to keep replaying certain parts over and over again... Thank you Amber for the gift of your beautiful face 🫠
Guys this was 1980s Stevie Wonder. He had a bunch of hits during that decade as well following huge success in the 60s and 70s. If you like this you’ll really enjoy “I Just Called to Say I Love You” and “Master Blaster”.
Stevie Wonder has this beautiful gift when he composes his music. His arrangements are complex (that is, possessing technical excellence and a distinct layering of pleasing features) while at the same time remaining uncomplicated and rather simple, in the best possible sense of the term. His chord progressions are sublime, setting up tension in one bar and then release in the next. That is what makes his music so timeless and utterly pleasant to listen to.
For "young Stevie" you'll see him listed as "Little Stevie Wonder". The first song of his I remember hearing was "I Was Made to Love Her" in 1967. Still my favorite. Also love "Sir Duke", just makes you "sing, dance, clap your hands".
I always feel this is the story of someone he loved from afar. He is playing all these scenarios in his head, trying to sum up the courage to walk up to her, and bracing for rejection with rebuttals ready..
I love all eras of Stevie and his catalog of music is endless. You could probably devote a year on your channel just to listening to his songs. I love this one, it is on my playlist right now. I have to say for some reason Signed Sealed Delivered is my favorite.
Loved him since i first heard him in Southern California when he debuted as " Little Stevie Wonder " in the mid 60s when Stevie was 14. Everyone at that concert knew even then what an astounding talent he was and how great he would become

His album Songs In The Key Of Life is everything!
Favorite album of all time ❤
My favorite song on that album is "As."
A Worldwide Classic Absolutely Amazing
whole album is amazing..ALL OF IT.
Same with 'Innervisions', an incredible album. Songs in the Key wins out though, simply because there's more of it.
Stevie Wonder ribbon in the sky
yes!
Also "You & I" , "Lately", and "You Haven't Done Nothin'."
You can’t go wrong with Stevie

He was 35 when he released this song.

@@darcyferrier775 Do you know Jay's email address?
He recorded this in 1978, he was 27. I'm a Stevlandologist
@@darcyferrier775 Recorded it when he was 27
This is not "young" Stevie. Stevie Wonder was 35 years old when this was recorded.
1980’s Steve Wonder as wonderful as 1970’s. Not young but order.
He recorded this in 1978 and he was 27. It was supposed to be on the Secret Life Of Plants but he felt it didn't fit with the theme of the album
Black don’t crack brother!😂
Right. I'm wondering what they would consider young or old.
@@Steve-mp7by No way. If you do your research he wrote it in 1979 and didn't recorded it till 1985.
Stevie Wonder was 35 when he released this in the mid 80s. Remarkable to think that he was in his 23rd Year of producing hits. Genius! ❤
The world loves him, in fact we are overjoyed for him and that is no wonder. The best! Not that young though not that old just Stevie at the right time!
What a lovely comment.

he has sooooooooo many songs its too much to count really.
Sir Duke.
No this is middle Stevie. Circa 1984 or so
AS is one of my top 10 Stevie and and All I do is in the top 3 Stevie
About time!! This is from the mid 80’s. Sung very beautifully. Hard to find a better sung ballad.
Wasn't this in Woman in Red soundtrack with other Stevie songs? For some reason I associate this song with that period and movie.
Close! Woman in Red came out the year before this album.
I believe this song was originally intended for the '79 album "The Secret Life of Plants," but wasn't included because they couldn't fit it in. So it was included on the "In Square Circle" LP, and I think it's the best song on that album, and his best track from the '80s.
