@FlaviusConstantius You'd think most Utd fans of the day would consider this side a disappointment when you look at how much talent they had in their lineup.
I remember Hughes saying (in this series) Revie goes I've squared it with the FA you lot will get more money! Hughes said he and his team mates couldn't believe it...they wanted the pride/glory of playing for their country not money!
yep - 5 grand for all team wages was average. I made this series and in Match of 80's we did a feature on individual wages. Graeme Souness the only player paid £100k a year in mid 80's
Malcolm Mcdonald jumping and celebrating after scoring against Newcastle - That's how it should be done. I hate this fake 'im not celebrating against my old club' bollox. If a toon legend like him can celebrate then anyone can.
Emlyn Hughes really comes across as smug and arrogant throughout this whole series. Always giving it the "we were the best", "everyone was scared of us", "nobody could match us", "other teams weren't mentally strong enough to win the league" etc. And always inventing these smart-alec, little anecdotes, like the Revie phone call one here, which are patently bullshit. Tosser.
I still miss Maine Road great atmosphere
“A friend is someone who knows all about you and still loves you.”
I'd love to say it's great to see the old Fratton Park about six minutes in...but the ground hasn't changed much since!

After watching a few of these I get the feeling that Emlyn Hughes didn't like Don Revie much.

must say, Hughes was a funny bastard here.
I don't like to speak ill of the dead but emlyn Hughes was a twat.
@@colinjennings3661 Can't exactly agree with that last word, but do agree with what you said. He was a bit too smug for my liking.

Can anyone confirm the 5 grand a week wages spoken of, are for full playing staff?

Don Revie was an arse, but Emlym Hughes was a bigger one
