Let's be honest, ok Hughes maybe smug but how many titles did Liverpool win in the 70s? The reds dominated for nearly 20 years,the odd second place to Forest,Villa etc. If you scored first v Liverpool you knew you'd lose.
My memory of that season was as a Bristol City supporter. The team had struggled all season and the last game was against fellow strugglers at Highfield Road. Meanwhile Sunderland were also struggling and playing at Everton. The Sunderland game began 15 minutes before the Highfield Road clash, and Sunderland lost 2-0. The score was flashed onto the Coventry scoreboard and the two City teams stayed in their own half just kicking the ball around until full time. With the score at 2-2, Sunderland were relegated and Coventry and Bristol City stayed up. 44 years ago but I remember it like yesterday
So it was the Man Utd v Leeds semi final that contributed to the horror of Hillsborough 10 yrs later? That's when SWFC put the barriers up to pen the trouble in, but obviously did not anticipate any health and safety issues smh
the english game needs another Brian Clough, trevor wimark, steve heighway, the list of great players goes on, just seems like footballers are not like they used to be??

Terrible from Clive Thomas, almost as bad as him blowing for full time in the match between Brazil and Sweden in the World Cup, with the score at 1-1, as the ball was in midair from a Brazil throw, which went in....cost him his international refereeing career. Criminal decision. Justice that Liverpool didn't win the Cup. That sort of thing changes club destinies.
