I think you answered your own question there - Clough obviously knew Revie was bent and that, along with Leeds' leg-breaking style (Clough's playing career was cut short by a serious injury and I'm sure that affected his view) was easily enough to make the future Forest manager despise him.

However what increased the hatred probably was in 1973 when Smith was replaced as captain by Hughes, and perhaps, if it did occur, this incident of Hughes trying to brible opposition players.
