  • After a night of heavy wet snow, there were a lot of trees and wires down creating obstacles for everyone on the road. But, it was a beautiful day for plowing snow...like driving through a postcard!

    another great plow video ,, was gonna ask where you were but someone else beat me to it
    it sure is beautiful country your driving through ,,we don't have all the trees right up to the road here in IOWA where i live ,county won't let them grow that close cause they overhang like yours are during heavy snow
    I've been plowing myself for 20 years and the last 15 as a contractor doing snow removal
    never driven a big dump truck like yours ,, most of my exp is in small vehicles and heavy equipment like graders and blowers ,, i have also built some of my own equipment ,, most notably my 250 HP detroit powered snowblower which is built on a 1978 1 ton chevy truck
    truck basically stock but i mounted the hydraulic power unit in the back for the blower i built and mounted on front ,, i can hydraulically power the trucks transmission allowing me to creep in deep snow and yet still drive highway speed
    only used it 2 times this year and not at all last year and never had enough snow for a challenge ,, winter 2009 that was a good year for snow because at my farm that winter we got 66 inches of snow ,, near double average ,,i ran my snowblower for near 1000 hours that winter

      Yes it would! I was thinking we should have some type of defector we can put on the wing post to get branches out of the way on days like this. The branches usually spring right back up once the snow gets knocked off them. Thanks for the comment!

    That plow seems to "ride" pretty good..old 70's tractor blow i use sometimes just wants to dig into into any dents in the roads :D but its not a floating design (only a big way too stiff spring keeping the blade vertical) and the ski's behind the blade got taken away years ago cause they did nothing.
    Seemed every tree was just there waiting to get you :D some heavy snow and a nice video.

    Very cool , just curios , what do the yellow #'s & letters mean? i obviously know what the date & time are, but the DOD thing & the ISO. Love these videos, only thing cooler would be a second camera out the back , to see what You have cleared. Im sure the second cam wouldnt work, would probably get covered in snow, but man it would be cool.

    • @JimHowDigsDirt
      @JimHowDigsDirt  8 лет назад +3

      +Donald King The Dod is the brand name of the dashcam. The ISO is the level of sensitivity of the camera to available light. The darker the day , the higher the number will be, right up to OSO:3200 at night. As for a rear camera I would normally use a GoPro on the outside of the truck, but unfortunately lost mine and that's why I purchased this less expensive dashcam to use until I get another GoPro.

    you getting a bad winter too? We are just getting our first major event, got about a foot over the last 2 days, and hoping for lake effect snow Friday. Could see 6-12 inches from that event and hopefully get ot for an extended shift due to a couple of sick co-workers. Anyways, good plowing as always, and great vid jim-Nate

    • @JimHowDigsDirt
      @JimHowDigsDirt  7 лет назад +1

      You are welcome! I usually go through three or four sets of blades during the winter on the wing and plow, depending on the weather. Most of the truck around here run two soft steel blades with a carbide tip blade sandwiched between them for longer life.

    • @JimHowDigsDirt
      @JimHowDigsDirt  8 лет назад +1

      +Mike McInerney There are no jockey wheels on these plows. We have two shoes behind the plow and we set about 1 inch off the ground when the blade is on the ground. Thanks for watching Mike!

      +GPVlog I myself never broke any windows, but I'm sure it does happen sometimes. I had to get out and re-adjust my mirrors quite a few times on this day as trees would knock them out of adjustment. The mirrors out on the wing post take a lot of abuse and get broken quite often on these trucks.
