A Nice Day for Plowing Snow

  • It's been a pretty mild winter here in Nova Scotia. Here's some shots from a snow fall we had on March 2nd. We didn't get as much as was forecasted, but it was enough to drop the plow and get out on the roads. With the milder temperatures, it didn't take much to clear the roads. The salt activates fast with warmer temps.

    Can I show us a video with out the plow but just salting? I think that would be cool.

    Great footage! What camera setup is that?

      Thank you! The camera I used here is the new GoPro MAX 360. It's an incredible camera and is almost like having a camera man hanging off the truck as you can look around after you recorded the video. It cost a little more than a regular GoPro but worth every cent of it if you want to get some amazing footage!

    Another great video, you guys in NS got all the snow this year hardly any here in South West NB.I am surprised NS doesn't use Bernie's (BWS) dump's and and plow setups.

    • @JimHowDigsDirt
      @JimHowDigsDirt  4 года назад

      I know you guys in NB usually get much more snow than us. We haven't had any real big snowfalls, just a lot of little ones. This year we also didn't get our usual warm spell mid winter that gets rid of all the snow.

    not sure if possible given the nature of the job, but it would be neat if you could add some commentary to the in cab shots. Im sure you have some great stories with all these years behind a plow.

    Why the freeze frame at 11:01 of that white SUV? Because it was close to your 5-pt turn?

    Thanks for the ride! Good luck with that Mack, the town I live in has run mostly Macks since the mid 70s and they really like plowing and sanding with them. They seem to hold together well, trucks only go for replacement when they begin to need repairs constantly.

      Thanks Jack! I hope to get a lot of trouble free years with the new Mack. Hopefully they are as tough as the old Macks!

    How many hours do you have work?

    • @JimHowDigsDirt
      @JimHowDigsDirt  4 года назад +1

      We have two twelve hour shift running from 5 to 5 so it all depends when you get called out. Sometimes we might get called in a little earlier if it starts snowing after 2am, as there's not much sense calling in the night shift that late in their shift. Generally we don't go over 12 hours tho. Thanks for asking Bill!

    Great video as always! I wish we got that kinda snow here in Va. We got a measly 2 inches a couple of weeks ago and we got called in by Vdot to help put salt and sand down for a few hours and that has been it.

      Thanks Alan! We haven't had any real big snow storms this winter, just a lot of little one's back to back. We put over 21,000 kilometers on the new truck so far this winter. I was hoping for at least one big storm before winters all over. Oh well...you never know what we will get hit with in March.

      @@JimHowDigsDirt yeah our big boss was expecting more also so he could make some money. If our operation was closer to the blue ridge mountains we would have better chances but we are in the tidewater area of Virginia.
