All vehicle manufacturers are exactly the same, no exceptions. Their salesmen come across just like the best friend you lost touch with years ago if you walk onto the dealer lot to buy one of their overpriced vehicles. When it comes time for a warranty claim though, the niceties are over and they refer to the fine print in the sales contract that states that your vehicle engine problem isn't covered under warranty for any number of irrelevant issues, like you failed to polish the door handles at 10,000Km.

those corolla/camry hybrids will all still be on the road in 30 years. Most probably still with the original owner.
The hybrid system is brilliant for mulling about on inner-city roads. The mistake they've made is trying to stick all that shit in things that are going to get thrashed about in the middle of bum-fuck nowhere.
They used to actually test their cars in the middle of the Australian outback, which is one of the reasons they gained such a great reputation.
Whatever that thing was, it obviously wasn't tested on anything other than a track.

why do you toyota guys buy so many.. ??..i had a ford bronco for 24 yrs. never any probs. cost 3.5k.. i fitted a d44 solid axle d60 rear. cost $1,500. raised about 6''. 35.s.. wheel base between toyota & nissan, but wider. more stable.. cv,s are a paint in the ass. why do japs continue with them. u.s. trucks have uni,s. $26. & 1.5 hrs to change, & no greesy mess..toyota lost the plot between the 60 & 80.. 60 had leaves, they fixed that with coils.. but they omitted the trans brake & went in disc.. also, the radius rods rip off the diff & chassis, as there thru bolt, not thru eye bolt. like nissan.. best thing about an 80, is low range 1st. nearly as good as my s/duty. 4.2tdi.. 02.. owned 9 yrs, never touched it. 700nm.. 180kw.. 14 lt 100..tows 4.5t. up hill in 5th.. mate has an 80. he,s scared to use 5th as they blow.. one of the hundreds of reasons why i wont buy a toyota.. too expensive, too gutless.. too cramped. too noisy. especially the junk 79 series. mate re built his 80 series calipers, he has 2 of them, they didnt fit the other.. ????... frigin jap sht.. '' but all the tracks are made for toyotas.''.. no there not. land rover made them.. IF. you bought an 80, & a gu nissan. you could have best of both worlds.. a decent 4x4.. seeing toyota use nissan diffs.. nissan have shorter coils tho. toyota has a better low range. better body..

Amazing how Toyota can diagnose a problem in a relative instant on a new model but a few episodes ago we learn of a poor gentleman waiting over six weeks of Toyota procrastination before they admitted the guys engine is stuffed and needs replacing under warranty.

Have you ever done a scan, pulled a code then used that to repair? All the diagnostics can tell you is which component isn't happy or which parameter isn't being achieved, you then have to figure out why.
If you want that capability just drop a few quid on a scanner but considering most drivers in developed countries don't even attempt to change a tyre what's the point in having that function built in, itd be as pointless as carrying a spare tyre.

Long story short, the dealer in Wagga diagnosed the cause - he'd driven it over a dirt road, which apparently you're not supposed to do. Perhaps an analysis of this is in order. If every new model was that bad no manufacturer would still be in business. Logically some vehicles will have faults but common sense suggests most new models both past and present will be ok. The problem now is, with such short model cycles and cars being disposable items, R&D isnt about improving durability, but just getting the vehicle to last for its designed lifetime which probably isnt much longer than the warranty period.

This is exactly why that WA 4wd reviewer said a sealed alternator was his favourite upgrade on his 70 series. Also Car sales could have chosen not to reveal this experience that left them stranded. So good on them for letting us all know despite the consequences that may face from Toyota. Also like many have said, doesn’t matter which brand, there are always concerning issues with new product in at least the first year of it’s production.

Still haven't managed to have any airbox problems on the 80 series diesel.
I don't know if I can pin it down, but I get the feeling that in the mid nineties, Toyota were making a lot bigger attempt at durability and quality than they are now.

The original Land Rover V8 (Series III) vehicles had the starter motor right down the bottom. If the driver did not drive steadily through a river/stream crossing and allowed it to stall, he had to be towed out and wait the water to drain out of the starter motor, which happened quite quickly. Our female sappers actually listened to the instructions😁! Cheers from NZ🇳🇿.

Toyota must have done a collab with ford on how to let water into places it shouldn't be
My 2005 fiesta was getting water in the spark plug valley from water dripping down from the window washer sprayers and also the top of the drivers side strut tower which has rusted the the nuts and bolts of it which i think may be due to the plastic trim at the bottom of the windscreen

Engineers need to go back to design school and have ALL the basic functions that require a vehicle to start and move hard encoded into the engine management system as a get you home function (I know some vehicles have a limp mode !). Even if you have to click an ''I Accept" button on the dash that'd be fine by me. To have a car completely not start at all (here's where I am not buying Toyotas cloak and dagger explanation for this event) for a seemingly minor sensor detection is abysmal. There was another vehicle that was out bush when a rear wheel speed sensor wire got snagged by a stick and had broken the cable. The car would not drive at all after this. I get it that the ABS and traction control would not operate as designed, but to leave a vehicle STRANDED because of this, is design incompetence. Similarly a dash notification and "I Accept" option with an explanation of the issue and consequences would be far superior than being stranded with thousands of dollars in recovery costs for a broken sensor wire. I love high tech stuff, but it has to be as fool proof as possible for the BASIC vehicle functions.

Toyota have been resting on laurels from a time when it was a novelty to have a car that didn't break down every Thursday, and they have been overtaken on every single metric by multiple other manufacturers long ago. Even 15 years ago when i was selling new Toyotas it was the same, and nothing has changed since.

I can't believe Toyota has gone so far down hill in quality and warranty. The only Toyota car I actually owned was a Celica and also 2 Hi Lux pickups. Never had any major problems. Basically tyres, brake pads, oil and filters with one pickup requiring tie rod end and ball joint. Even when they were worn out and my mum gave me her Corolla...no problems. I thought the fuel injected motor would get cranky with some kms on it but no. With 360,000km on it it was still doing well. I changed to Mitsubishi after that and never had trouble up to this day.

@@Alex-tu9bh The 48V systems enable the engine stop-start system to be more assertive in the ADR / WLTP fuel consumption and emissions tests (urban cycle). This can make the lab test fuel consumption and emissions a fair bit lower - the latter of which is important in the context of NVES. The fact that it is pretty much pointless in the real world is irrelevant when you have regulations to deal with!
