  • Coming of age in the sleepy town of Nogales, Arizona, author Danielle McFarlin tells her story of how she transformed the devastating shadows of her early childhood sexual abuse into a path for spiritual warriorhood.
    Growing up in the border town of Nogales, Arizona, McFarlin was inspired to use her own journey through abuse and disempowerment to create a new framework for viewing the effects on both men and women in our present day "rape culture." Her memoir, From Wounded to Warrior, propose to serve as a beacon of hope for those who think their life is irreparable, showing them instead, through her own words, how, with courageous and deep self-inquiry, they can shine their own light on the path to healing and wholeness. McFarlin's work aims to create a safe foundation for those who have kept their stories of abuse and shame buried in the shadows.
    This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at ted.com/tedx

    Very inspiring. After listening to you I don’t feel so bad anymore about the pain, shame, etc after encountering a second narcissist. It’s about the healing and building the bridge to help other “ survivors “ in my case domestic violence. Thanks 😊

      Kim Steffgen I hope you didn't took my statement in a wrong sense. I am just very inspired and proud of her . She had suffer so much her entire life and then when so many people lose hope at that point she stood up for herself and for so many other girls out there. That's what I wanted to say.

    • @vartika1931
      @vartika1931 7 лет назад +2

      Kim Steffgen She said that 7 people raped her and she was 3 when it first time happened. That was the moment I felt so sad for her and disgusted by that stupid person who did that to her. She even tried to kill herself and when she mentioned this on her speech I thanked god that she is alive because if there wasn't any person to save her she wouldn't be able to share her courage to those people who are sexually abused but are too afraid to tell anyone. I have huge respect for her because of the fact that she does not want other people to suffer like she did.

    I fear my daughter, who you are fb friends with, has a similar story and I was so vigilant and it still happened. I think I know who one of them is but don't know what to do. He's in the family. She doesn't want to say anything because she can't see his face in her memory. I know this is affecting her life. Thank you for sharing your story, I'm so glad you're alive.

      Danielle McFarlin , in my thirty something years of existence this is the first story that resonates with me. Thank you for an inspiring speech. I could not imagine how hard it is to stand up and talk about something so horrifying, and yet I find myself wanting to be in that crowd with you, standing up, speaking up.. I think this is it : the moment I claim my life back. Thank you ...

    It has taken me fifty years to get to the complete breakdown, the moment when I thought I could face eternity just to stop the pain! Then came the reality that f@@k no! I will not give up what is left of me so that a bunch of worthless bullies and cowards from my past can sleep well. I know they wait for that day when their crimes will be safe, I will never give them that.
