FINALLY!! Ya boy has gotten around to reacting to ‘TOOL’ a huge request over the last few months!🔥 please leave a like on this video for more TOOL & leave me some feedback on my observations on the track!🙏🏻 #RoadTo50K⭐️
This was their first release since the 1000 days album in 2006. You should react to pushit off of their 1996 album aenima, similar atmosphere but it definitely has all of the things you said you wanted to hear out of this song.
Fun fact: When Maynard sings 'mitosis', it's exactly at the midway point of the song. The album art could also be interpreted as a cell undergoing mitosis.
This is a cool intro to Tool. I’m so jealous of you to be able to discover all of their old stuff. This is their first song in 13 years and it rocks. I don’t even know where to start your journey but Schism, Parabol/Parabola, Stinkfist, Sober, The pot are all amazing in different ways.
Tool is like a fine wine. Better with age (more listens). Theyve always been progressive but they have evolved with every album becoming more spiritual you could say. They take you on a sonic journey. Definitely start with some older stuff since its heavier and work your way in. Listen to it for the journey and not to just headbanging even though you still can haha
Battousai4TheWin after another listen, I’ve changed my mind. The track is phenomenal - I had some preconceptions going into the video that made me expect something totally different, that’s all!
@@DrewFortune97 I don't think you were "ready" for this Tool track. This was the first song in 13 years, and I think it was meant for the fans not the casual listener. Their albums are meant to be listened to together as an experience, especially the last album. It took me a few listens to really appreciate this song, as I was expecting a typical single release type track. It is definitely meant as an intro to what things are to come and will probably fit greatly with the rest in one listen.
When I first heard this song I definitely felt like something was missing but after listening to the whole album, to me, it really feels like it's all one song. If I listen to fear inoculum its impossible to stop there. Full album or nothing 🙃 & fyi amazing live show. Saw TOOL play this live a day before the gov. mandatory stay at home order 💕 amazing
Ls Metalhead It’s their very first song, in fact; it predates Opiate and is based on “Burn About Out” - a song from Maynard’s earlier band, Children of the Anachronistic Dynasty.
I guess you don't understand yet. Which is normal for tool, takes at least 10 listens to start understanding. I've literally watched people go from meh first listen to by 10 songs it's there favorite band
This can’t be emphasized enough. Though the videos are extraordinarily unique, they rarely ever tie in to the music. Most of the reactors that use the official vids get to distracted to even listen to the music.
The first time I listened, I thought the song was just OK. The next listen I liked it more. The listen after that, I liked it even more. Now I love it. That's kind of Tool in essence. You hear or realize things every single time you listen to these songs that you didn't before. They make the music for themselves and not necessarily for fans and have free reign to do so. They take their time crafting songs that are amazing and everyone else is just along for the ride. They are their own genre. It's the first song off a new album - they make albums, not necessarily just songs. It's just the set up for the rest of the album. Listen to Lateralus, The Grudge, Schism, Jambi, Vicarious, The Pot, Right in Two, 46&2, Stinkfist, Sober, Prison Sex, Parabol/Parabola, Pushit (live from Salival album), The Patient, Ticks and Leeches, Rosetta Stoned, etc.
That's kinda the point of the song, they been away for 13 years. They are creating an anticipation. We are back, wait... We are gonna blow your mind. My God the new Tool is coming out hard. Dropping a download out of the blue. The music. They are creating art, right now.
As I’ve commented on numerous videos, “when you can’t headbob to their odd time signatures so you just shake your head side to side trying to catch a snare and kick” 😂
TOOL are arguably the most extraordinary metal band of the last 30 years. They've got a big rep for a reason. You've dipped your foot in the deep end however.... I'd recommend starting from the beginning of their career React to the Opiate EP or SOBER from 1992
"This is fuckin weird" hahahaha love it! This was my first reaction to Tool when my friend let me borrow a cassette tape on the school bus. After repeated listening and understanding I fell in love.
I am actually amazed this is your first Tool reaction. Imo, it is not the best song for first introduction but you will get to know Tool in time. They are very unique when it comes to music writing.
This was my first Tool song and tbh it didn't get me right at the start.Few months later I listened to FI again and it was better this time. Then I listened to Lateralus and got hooked
Man im so glad you are finally doing tool. This song to me is very different from all their other songs, but at the same time there is no mistaking that it is a tool song. This song reminds me of the the grudge was combined with right in two and a few other tool songs. I would say the eide sound scape of this track is unlike any other tool song, definitely there best work in that regard. Drew I would like to see you react to pushit by tool, similar type atmosphere to this song but with a more narrow soundscape and a "satisfying drop" that you wanted out of this song.
You went though the song expecting something else besides what they are giving you. Lol The more you listen to TOOL The more you will start to understand. It’s definitely a learning experience. I know you were expecting some kind of slipknot knock out punch. TOOL isn’t that type of band. They’re not gonna come to you. They create these beautiful musical landscapes that are so well thought out and articulated that it’s like putting pieces of a puzzle together on each listen. Like I said. The more you listen the more you understand🙂
@TheBlackiwid what are you talking about, they didn't have to compromise their sound for new fans, they have a very well established and have for years, they don't care what we think, as stated in many interviews they have stated this is art for them, they are very in control of their sound, not the label, and there are plenty of Tool songs that don't have a crazy build up, but the intrumental are great in this new track, that last part Danny, Adam, and Justin kill it, and this new song doesn't sound like APC or Puscifer, it sound like Tool, this is the perfect mixture of their last 3 records, and it's also only one track, everyone has their own opinion, sucks you didn't enjoy it as much, not everything has to have a punch or kick, and I'd really like to see the source that said they were compromising their new sound for a new audience lol that's the biggest load of bullshit I've ever read, I'm just saying lol
@TheBlackiwid I also disagree. 'Knockout punches' have been a hallmark of Tool songs since AEnima. As the first track on the album, Fear Inoculum sounds like it's deliberately holding back to emphasize drops in the subsequent songs (I hope so, anyway).
I'd have to agree with the OP on the fact that you come to them, not the other way around. You can't "expect" or you're setting yourself up for disappointment. They do have songs with "knock out" punches though. But expecting is the biggest mistake even Tool fans make with this band and that goes for songs or just about anything to do with this band from releases to songs to concerts. With Tool, don't expect just accept. This isn't the band from Opiate or Undertow or Aenima. They evolved around the time they put our Lateralus and 10,000 days. Fear Inoculum is just another evolution and growth for Tool. This is in my opinion because of the length of the songs on this album, probably their best version of Tool now. It's the first album I really have a hard time deciding what song is my favorite. Other Albums, not so much. JMO.
Going from Slipknot to Tool? Got to be an odd transition. Cause the brain has to adjust. I love how you waited for heavy shit to kick in. Nah mate, Tool's the best when you get high.
@@DrewFortune97 They do have what you call, ''drops'' in their music. It's just not in all of their music as they are very complicated. ''The Pot'' for example would satisfy you for sure. But their music is challenging to listen to, it's an experience and does require adjustment. But if you can develop that, you start to get it and it's satisfying, no band sounds like Tool
Speaking as a seasoned fan of a whopping 9 years of the 22 I have spent on this good Earth, I wasn't blown away at first, but after a few dozen listens it has revealed itself to be incredible, and I believe the element that is lacking is the songs that surround it in the full album. This is the first new release from the band for a big chunk of their younger fans and I think the excitement has lead to hastily-formed conclusions so far.
Big TOOL fan for many years now and my absolute nr.1 was Lateralus...then this album came out and it had the track called Invincible on it and my god...that one blew me away. That drumline starting around 8min mark sucks you right in. Love it !!!
Great reaction, Drew. I appreciate your honesty. Big and obvious paybacks are in songs like Lateralus, 46 & 2, Grudge, etc; you really can't go wrong with any of Tool's past albums. But starting with Fear Inoculum may be like running through the Louvre, passing works of the masters waiting to see a familiar cartoon character (did I just accidentally compare Slipknot to a cartoon character? Sorry. Actually I don't think they would mind!). By this point in Tool's career they don't need to prove they can rock out; they built an entire genre! Now their art is in the subtly. The "big" payback with Fear Inoculum comes in epiphanies, with multiple listens of the full album. Tool meant for it to be listened to as a whole. In fact the drummer wanted it to be one 87 minute long song! I truly envy you, if this draws you in, as you say, and you become a Tool fan. I wish I could be experiencing that again for my first time!
Your boxing fight analogy is spot on, you can feel it when a master just effortlessly does something simple and flawless, and you get a feeling that there's so much mastery behind it but they just don't need to show it off. I'd like to hear your take on more of their work.
You’ve gotta do “the pot” probz there most mainstream song, banging bass and class lyrically... probz better to ease your way into tool, they can be deep
LOL... You wanted 1 thing but they gave you another. You can tell that they were holding back the entire song, it could have went ape shit at any time but Tool will be Tool, regardless :) And after waiting for 13 years... this song was worth the wait. 40% of Tool is better than 100% of most bands these days.... and this song grows with each listen.
The problem is people come in thinking tools a heavy band and they are not they never had been. Tools more of a reflective band of yourself if that makes any sense
If you're looking for heavy soul punching riffs/workout music, listen to 10,000 Days If you're looking for really diverse musical landscape and classic Tool listen to Ænema If you're looking for trip out psychedelic rock listen to Lateralus If your looking for darkness and anger listen to Undertow. Tool is one of those few bands where you can listen to LITERALLY any random picked song and be entertained.
Disposition, Reflection & Triad is my fav from Lateralus. I listen to them together 22 mins close my eyes and Tool takes me on a journey. Trance I'm legit chill out for a few hours after that lol
To me Tool are definitely an acquired taste. It took me a LONG time to appreciate their style and structure, so it's understandable to not be into it right off the bat. For a long time I was critical of a lot of their music because I didn't have the patience for all of the extensive buildup and repetition they play around with. However I'd say there are definitely other songs they have that will probably garner your interest. The majority of their songs are long and drawn out, but there are plenty of heavy and head-banging moments to be found, as well as some deeply profound lyrics and powerful musical landscapes. Coming from someone who doesn't identify as a "hardcore" Tool fan, and only became a fan in recent years, I'd say this new one packs a bit less of a punch than most of the music I've heard from them. Definitely think you'll get into them over time!
I think the knockout punch you were looking for wasn’t coming since it’s the intro to the album. I agree with you 100% about that but believe me, what you’re looking for will be found on the full album.
Fair take. As a Tool fan since the 90's, I really felt similar after my first listen to this song. I think starting at their newest stuff is a disservice to you. I mean, it's fine but, you can hear their older sound in parts here and a lot of their older stuff does have that knockout punch. So, I'd go back and start from the beginning before the new album comes out. Invincible, a new track as well yet, only played live so far, definitely is assuring to me that they haven't lost that knockout ability. Can't wait to hear the studio track for that. Anyway, welcome to the fold and don't give up on this band. They just get better the more you listen and catch the intricacies that you(everyone) will likely miss the first couple listens. Spiral out!
Tool has been my favorite band for more than 20 years. I think your reaction was so well explained and how I felt myself. There are many tracks that will knock your ass out but your description was perfect. Try out “The Grudge” or “Ticks and Leaches”... these guys are kings of building and then blowing your face off, but they didn’t on this track. Fantastic video brother. I’ll be here to check out many more.
Tool is a master of subverting expectations. They are almost a genre of their own. Sober, 46 and 2, Aenima, and H. are all fantastic. They layer musical sounds like no one else out there.
Hey Drew I’ve watched just about if not all of your Tool reactions. I’m glad you had an open mind and gave yourself the opportunity to go down the rabbit hole. Love how you’re a huge fan now 😁
I can totally understand your way of seeing this. The thing is, it sounds so epic and so much pressure building up with that changes, you expect the explosion at one point. Just that one moment. This whole song keeps you in that tense that you want to release, but it doesn't, yet it's an awesome song that besides that one moment which would complete that satisfying moment you are so prepared for, has more than accomplished all else. Many songs of Tool manage that and I'd suggest you to listen to the Grudge. Awesome band.
I wish you would have started with some of their older songs. This is very hard to grasp for a first listen. I would recomend Schism, Sober, The Grudge, Parabol/Parabola and then go back to this one ;-) You will get the punch def. from some of the older stuff. "The Grudge" will blow your mind... P.S.: Always go with lyric videos for Tool.
Yeah Tool is an acquired taste..for connoisseurs, probably not the best song to dive into, try Jambi, the grudge, the pot, lateralus, vicarious.....you will be pulled in slowly and probably never leave again.
It's really interesting to see this reaction knowing that you fell in love with them. It's such a journey, especially when you start with their newer stuff which tends to take a few listens.
9.21 that little look you do, that's your first lesson in not having an expectation of Tool . I love that at this stage you don't know the crazy ass journey you are about to launch yourself on!! But I have had fun watching it most of the day. Kinda Fibonacci like that I would end up finishing, with your first reaction :)
Tool are the thinking mans metal - the music is deep, progressive and has multi layers. It’s not about knock out aggression or brutality. You can listen to this 10 minute masterpiece 50 times and find something new on each listen. The musicianship is also outstanding just listen to Danny Carey’s drumming - it is phenomenal. This is not a song that can be fully appreciated on one listen.
It’s great to see everyone’s first reaction to Tool. I’ve seen some of your other reactions to them since, so I know you eventually get that satisfaction you were looking for… 😉
It's music you chill to not meant to be too heavy next time listen to it with your eyes closed and no distraction and let Tool take you for a ride. Anyways good reaction the song is a grower it'll get better the more you listen to it
I really liked it on first listen, I've lost count how many times I've listened now and I absolutely love it. It's phenomenal. So excited for the new album. Definitely explore some more Tool songs, you won't be disappointed. Plenty of good suggestions from other comments.
Almost a year since the release and this first Tool reaction for you.... “felt like you were being groomed - come with me child”.... how prophetic huh Drew...! Welcome to the fold my Irish brother !
This album dropping right before the virus hit was a beautiful coincidence. All the talk of inoculations (vaccines) and the greatest threat of the virus was actually fear itself. Perfect timing
Let me quote some lyrics in the song for you: "Forfeit all control" Don't let your expectations rule your experience, it will only lead to disappointment. With that said, I want you to react to more Tool!

Your boxing fight analogy is spot on, you can feel it when a master just effortlessly does something simple and flawless, and you get a feeling that there's so much mastery behind it but they just don't need to show it off. I'd like to hear your take on more of their work.
Definitely should do The Grudge by Tool, great song.
Ya theyve come back to restore order!!! Musical effing genius!!
you should react to the grudge by tool, it’s one of their best
With Tool, it's always best to leave your expectations at the door.
You’ve gotta do “the pot” probz there most mainstream song, banging bass and class lyrically... probz better to ease your way into tool, they can be deep
There's a popular theory that says this song is just an intro to their album.
What an Intro it would be
LOL... You wanted 1 thing but they gave you another.
You can tell that they were holding back the entire song, it could have went ape shit at any time but Tool will be Tool, regardless :)
And after waiting for 13 years... this song was worth the wait.
40% of Tool is better than 100% of most bands these days.... and this song grows with each listen.
The problem is people come in thinking tools a heavy band and they are not they never had been. Tools more of a reflective band of yourself if that makes any sense
If you're looking for heavy soul punching riffs/workout music, listen to 10,000 Days
If you're looking for really diverse musical landscape and classic Tool listen to Ænema
If you're looking for trip out psychedelic rock listen to Lateralus
If your looking for darkness and anger listen to Undertow.
Tool is one of those few bands where you can listen to LITERALLY any random picked song and be entertained.
Tool - Schism
T00L hadn't released an album in over 5,000 days...about 13 years. T00L is a tool for personal growth. Welcome, friend.
Disposition, Reflection & Triad is my fav from Lateralus. I listen to them together 22 mins close my eyes and Tool takes me on a journey. Trance I'm legit chill out for a few hours after that lol
If you want one of their HEAVIEST songs, listen to Jambi, off of the 10,000 days album. Jambi is 100% tension and a sick guitar sound.
46.and 2..!
@@slantz49 46&2 is also very good.
TICKS AND LEECHES by TOOL is insane. try that
Follow the white rabbit...... -PEACE-
To me Tool are definitely an acquired taste.
You need to start with the song ‘The Grudge’
Check out "Lateralus" from TOOL. Super euphoric, and poetic.
And fibonaccish
@@SkylineCityMusik Yes quite the song hehe :)
Spiral out!
Jerk off, Ticks and Leeches, Third Eye, LostKeys/Rosetta Stoned, Hush, The Grudge, Jambi. These tracks will blow your mind!!
Poor guy was blindsided! Haha! I love watching the first reactions of Tool. Can’t wait to watch the rest and see his third eye burst open ♥️✌️♥️
Tool... cuts deep and heals hard.
I’ll be here to check out many more.
well I wouldn't call it comeback. it's typical TOOL. Ænima is a great album to start with. loved the honesty.
And... If you're looking for bass... Vicarious.
I had to watch your first reaction to Tool again. You have come so far and I’m so proud! 😉
Awesome band.
ok "mitosis gettin' a shout out" fuckin slayed me. this track takes a few listens to really vibe out to. its solid.
🤣🤣🤣
5 years later , he got the knowledge Tool is a masterpiece , thanks for finding this hidden gem , God bless your soul mate
Tool has been away for 13 years... But now they are baaaaaccckkkk
Ls Metalhead fuckkkk I was expecting like 5 years or something🤣🤣
@@DrewFortune97 😂
TOOL's music compells you to keep listening to the end.
You gotta react to more tool,,, 46 and 2 , jambi, lateralus, parabol and parabola and so much more.
YES, The Grudge and Jambi dude. -PEACE-
I dig that boxing analogy. That's one of their softer songs. They definitely got some heavier s***
yes tool. I just subcribed for hopes of more tool.
richard W me too!
next song: The Grudge. Trust me ...
Yeah Tool is an acquired taste..for connoisseurs, probably not the best song to dive into, try Jambi, the grudge, the pot, lateralus, vicarious.....you will be pulled in slowly and probably never leave again.
I think this reaction is how everyone has it with tool the first time they hear them it takes a few listens to understand their Genius.
I find the best way to experience Tool is to close your eyes and quiet your mind. It takes you on a trip.
It's really interesting to see this reaction knowing that you fell in love with them. It's such a journey, especially when you start with their newer stuff which tends to take a few listens.
Tool was the only fucking concert that was an absolute experience. It was the only time where a concert got into my head.
Jesus, double bass and long low riffs and not enough. Tool makes you want more. Love it.
Nice to see a reaction from someone who hasn't been actively waiting for 13 year for this. Great reaction. Check out the their song The Grudge
Modern music scene: Rock is dead
Tool: Hold my beer
You don’t listen to TOOL, you experience #TOOL.
Welcome to Progressive Metal Boy-O were the complexities are boundless
The video that started your journey....Fuck yeah.
This album dropping right before the virus hit was a beautiful coincidence. All the talk of inoculations (vaccines) and the greatest threat of the virus was actually fear itself. Perfect timing
You keep listening to tool lyrics you may end up getting a degree for school.✏📚
Let me quote some lyrics in the song for you: "Forfeit all control" Don't let your expectations rule your experience, it will only lead to disappointment. With that said, I want you to react to more Tool!
Machine head - Davidian !!react!!
