Glad you took advice from the comments and listened to Lost Keys into Rosetta Stoned. This, in my opinion, is Tool's best album.
Don’t skip intention. Trust.
Taunic that’s the great thing about tool. All of their albums are contenders. It depends on where we are on our journey.
Do it Intension and then end with Right in Two. Listen on your own Viginti Tres, as like Lipan Conjuring.
Most definitely react to both for intention and right in two, it smooths in the next track. But brother you are not done yet! You have to react TOOLs first album ever called Undertow!! Plz!
Doctor: "Can you please repeat all of that? I seem to have forgotten my pen."
Underrated comment award goes to...
Hahahaha
*Angry Maynard noises*
*alrighty then*
The patient was the doctor...
Danny Carey said in an interview that Maynard wrote the lyrics after a friend of theirs told them about an LSD trip where he was abducted by aliens. Maynard thought it was hilarious, as one would. So the song is basically Maynard making fun of their friend lmao
Bill Manspeaker originally told the story that adds up to the lyrics of this song .
Oliviero Caronna it's also apparently very common with DMT trips to see aliens. Enter Alex Jones conspiracy theories...
Lsd dmt fuck who cares given how strange tools sound his and their videos are it fits in the wheel house of song topics
He must have shit the bed 😂
Yup and its hilarious lol great song too.
"But I forgot my pen..." It's so Maynard to throw such a silly joke of a lyric on top of the most epic, orgasmic climax in the history of music.
Ah, but it begs the question: Is it a joke? It seems a statement of tragedy when compared to the climactic ascension of the song.
I think it's more the frustration. Not being able to remember something that was so eye opening for you. That drives the person crazy and i think the song reflects that really well.
I think “I shit the bed” ranks up there as well… mjk fucking genius
This song caught me off guard when the album dropped. One of the most unique tool songs ever. Instant classic.
when the album dropped, my balls dropped too
I became a Tool fan over a decade ago and for the longest time this was the one song of theirs I couldn't get into. Finally, after not listening to 10K for a long time, a few years ago I played the whole album through and was fucking floored by Lost Keys/RS. I berated myself for not giving this song its due. Idk why it didn't click with me initially. Easily in my top 5 Tool songs now.
@@ianlutz4018 it's a masterpiece man.
Just did acid on the floor in Idaho Falls, 20 rows back, in the raised penalty box… Adam and I had the moment during the middle of the song (the first “shit never happens to me” part). I looked back, and up in the front row of the raised section, 3 seriously hot chicks rockin and acknowledging my experience. Best live concert moment of my life. Thanks for listening
I still get goosebumps at “overwhelmed”
Best part of any Tool song i think
@Connor Smith Every song on Aenima has an epic ending!
word.
Pushit ending would like a word with you
@@justinman114 Lateralus - They have so many but it's hard to beat the guitar riff and the part that starts with "feed my will to feel this moment" ending with spiral out keep going. Come on who's with me.
Intension and Right In Two should ABSOLUTELY be experienced together
There is no other way.
Thank you for your suggestion I'm going to do that right now 😊
This song is like a Tool version of a lovecraft story. A bit of the ol cosmic horror.
Where’s the cat tho?
This was the 1st Tool song I ever saw live. Lost Keys/Rosetta Stoned. Just 8 days after 10,000 Days was released. The show was at a very small theater here in Denver. It was my 1st concert ever and I’ve seen them 10 more times since.
I attended their concert in Toronto a week ago and my god it was fantastic, i just wished they would have performed this song and lateralus. first tool concert after being a fan for ages, what an experience.
Nice! I saw them in Denver on the 15th of October. I think it was only the 2nd time they had ever played Pneuma live. Just a great concert overall. Can’t wait til they return. God I hope they play at Red Rocks again.
You lucky SOB lol!
@@FrostyJim6969 nice I saw them in Denver on the 16th. What a show. Pneuma was definitely one of the best songs done but in a whole it was an amazing show!
You are blessed to see this song live. It's one crazy hard song to play.
Basically one of the band's friends came to the studio and told he had been abducted by aliens. And this song is basically inspired by the story he told. The lyrics are absolutely hilarious. The aliens gave this man the Rosetta Stone of communication between the aliens and humans. And he's so stoned he forgets what they told him and he's trying to explain it as fast as possible. And he forgot his pen. LOL.
"I have no idea where we are" -humanity
LOL
After you finished Right in Two its time for the No Quarter Cover by them. But you should do first the original by Led Zeppelin and right after that the Tool Version. That riff on the end will completely blow your mind away!!
Yes!
Definitely.
F*** man looks like you listen to s*** the way I do
The bridge to the ending is the best part of any tool song!!
Overwhelmed as one would be
My nigga, that was one of the most satisfying parts of any song I've heard in a long time.
The bass and the drums playing together is around the part where I’m subliminally tempted to strip naked and run through the woods.
The bridge is definitely left out
I think you would really enjoy Flying Whales by Gojira
YES!
They run deep too.
I believe he would dig Gojira a lot, it would be awesome to see him react to and discover them.
Hell yeah. Gojira is sic as all hell.
and Meshuggah!
Coming from a hardcore fan of 30 years, IMHO, in order to reach that next level of truly appreciating TOOL, you have to work your way through their catalog of songs to finally reach Third Eye and Rosetta Stoned. You’ve done that!
It’s a joy to watch you on this journey...
intention + right in two should be done together. intention is a full song in it's own right that leads into the intro of right in two, and they have a combined message.
... and a subliminal message in Intension...
Intension (what humans became) + Right In Two (outsiders talking crap about what humans became)
These are two halves to one story...
DEEPER reaching HIGHER......
Imo the music can get unnoticed when focusing too much on the lyrics/meaning, which is totally understandable.
Listen to it again, this time caring less about the lyrics and focus on the instrumentation and I promise you'll be blown away all over again. There are so many intricate sounds on this track, even without lyrics it's incredible. Maybe even moreso
Can't like this comment enough.
it goes for all tool songs really idk why so many people recommend lyrics on a first listen. like that's not really how people experience music in general
Funny I am the opposite, I like good instrumentation more than good lyrics, and then lyrics can be interpreted different ways, even if specifically stated by the band "this is what it means" lol
God I love music
Yes!
Eh, for this song the lyrics are much more important imo. Without the lyrics, the first half of Rosetta Stoned is just extremely repetitive musically.
I’m 41 and have been a fan of this band since I was in high school, 1994. I have a 14 yr old son who has grown up on them and loves them almost as much as I do. Their music has gotten me through some of the toughest times of my life. Anyway, I’ve really enjoyed your videos and your reaction to my favorite band. Keep it up and I hope they end up being a favorite of yours as well
This used to me my least favorite Tool album. Now I think it may be their best.
I agree 100 percent Mr. Finkel. It took a while before it surpassed Aenima and Lateralus. ( which are both tied for an EXTREMELY close second place...)
It's a tie between 10000 days and Lazarus
Same
10,000 Days is my favorite. This duo is a big part of why.
I LOVE that you laugh. Because its fucking funny. Most people are just like "wtf?" This means you get it. "Like the time Dave floated away..." Hilarious!
excellent comment! :)
Do you (think to) know which Dave they’re talking about? Or is this Dave an imaginary guy? Anyway the song is really funny and fantastic!!

The amount of like joy and utter awe you portray. Reminds me of someone listening to them while tripping. Your one of the few people Ive seen, really try to take them all in and appreciate how meticulous they are. Plus watching people listen to Tool songs for the first time makes me incredibly happy. Bless you sir
what's intriguing about this song to me is you cant tell if the narrator had a bad trip that fried his brain or if he is telling the truth and his mind was warped by his contact with the extra terrestrial being. a message of hope for those who chose to hear it and a warning for those who do not. One of my all time favorite songs by Tool
Hooooooooooooo yes!!! Make sure to listen to this one whilst driving down a country road or forest... You'll see E-mfkn-T without a doubt!! Cheers!! Standing by...........
Il do one better. I listen to this every night driving down RT 375 aka the extraterrestrial highway near Area 51 its a different level bro.
I was on 4 hits of lsd and stumbled across this song while I was painting. I haven t been the same since
Overwhelmed as one would be placed in your position,
Such a heavy burden now to do this one (justice).
Nice job Drew, this one took years for me to fully appreciate, there is so much going on that even now I still hear new things.
always thought it was "to be the one"
BeforeReform you are correct, I twisted the lyric to fit in with him reviewing it. (Is also “my position”)
Loving your channel mate and your reactions to Tool. I bought the Opiate EP in 1992 and my life was never the same. Even to this day I find myself marveling at the nuances of sound that constantly reveal themselves. Everytime I listen it's like listening for the first time. I know what's coming, but it still excites me, thrills me, envelopes me. A timeless band indeed and my favourite band of all time. Welcome aboard!
Don't overcomplicate it, a dude had a trip and that's the story, far out.
And people shit themselves, aka trainspotting.
Lol it’s a little more complex than just that.
Intension - Right in Two !
People are forgetting where these two songs all started. FA aid de Oiad on the album Laterlus. The alien abduction sequence starts with that “song”.
Intension + Right In Two as a continuous video is essential. You can skip Vigenti Tres lol
I agree with Tasim D. No Quarter cover is one of their best songs ever recorded.

Shout out to Maynard for the Uncle Martin reference from the old TV show My Favorite Martian! 🤘🏻
Absolutely hilarious lyrics.
The journey you are on, going through all of TOOL's hits FIRST TIME, is truly a once in a lifetime experience. Enjoy now, and when you listen to each song for the 10th time in private.
Enjoy your comments section too. 😁🤔
Yes Yes FUCKING YES, so glad you got to this monolith. Its by & far my favorite two combo song by Tool.
Man, you need to react to Gojira - Flying Whales
Great track Drew, thanks for posting. A perfect example of the evolution of Tool. The percussion on this track is otherworldly. For a great dissection of Danny's incredible skills on this track i highly recommend Johnkews YT videos on this song. On one he breaks down why this song is so hard to play, and the other he does a fantastic cover. Keep them coming mate!
That beat playing at around the 14 min mark is probably my favorite tool has Ever. Written. It's so smooth and complex I love it
Don't lock yourself in the "Tool room" for long. Open the door and expose yourself to other dimensions and angles:
If you want to experience more of Danny Carey work, react to Volto!, Pigmy Love Circus.
If you want to know what Maynard is capable of doing other than Tool, open up yourself to Puscifer, A Perfect Circle.
If you want to know what Justin did before joining Tool, find band Peach of early 90's and you will witness it.
As far as Jones talent as an animator you can see it in the movies like Predator2, Terminator2, Dances with the Wolves, Jurrasic Park.
But besides all that you would love to hear Maynard's voice in the band Green Jello. Particulary a song Three Little Pigs. The animation is hilarious and outstanding.
Who else remembers holding the headphones tight to their ears to catch every nuisance of a new Tool song exactly like he is? lol
You should totally revisit this song. Took a couple listens for me to totally appreciate this tune! Hope you and your family stay safe Drew!
This song turned into my favorite tool song.
Watching you like space out during lost keys is hilarious. Try it on mushrooms 😁😁😁😁😁 ✌️
Like the time Drew floated away
Damn. I missed the premier, lol was at work with practically no cell service. Oh well I can still watch it now 😉
Oh yeah EPICA-serenade of self destruction
Just finding your channel and have been binging all your uploads. Just my 2 cents, I think Rosetta Stoned is an acquired taste and it's not for everyone. I didn't like it at all my first couple of listens but it grew on me and now it's one of my favorites.
Can't begin to describe what I feel when I hear this song. Simply a masterpiece.
Don’t feel bad if this wasn’t your thing right away. I have been a Tool fan since the 90s but honesty I didn’t really appreciate this song until 2 years ago! This song is better and better with each additional listen. Check out John Kews drum cover of this song, found on RUclips. You will see Danny Carey’s true mastery as a drummer. But all of them really bring it. A true masterpiece.
I enjoy taking the lyrics at face value - granted, it's certainly about what the song meanings said and you elaborated upon, but it's also a story mirrored in so many accounts we see from people who claim to have been abducted by aliens. They were chosen by the beings, despite humble status. They were told the revelatory information to either save or damn us, but they can't remember what it was. I can even feel the anguish of the protagonist who can't remember what it was they said because he forgot his pen.
Watching your face throughout the songs has been a joy - so much fun to relive these songs with someone freshly acquainted with them. :)
Great as always, had to catch up and watch the last couple before this, been sick as F***, more than usual.
I love how this band uses a vast majority of their “musicians bag of Trix”, in literally every piece. While a lot of modern musicians use only a few and wind up using the cookie cutter for maybe one or two good songs and the rest is just filler, with TOOL it seems (nearly) every piece is artisan crafted to perfection (and the ones that are not are meant not to be) not only from a aural aspect but the way each song is constructed pertaining to music theory. Like I’ve said before, there are no accidents with TOOL.
Really enjoyed watching the last few you’ve posted back-to-back, and I am so glad their Fear Inoculum album has been such a catalyst to introduce people to their music.
Your appreciation of their music is amazing to see, and it is not very often I see someone react as you have, like their music has brought some color, sound or something new that is rare, and good.
Peace
Being a musician myself I can definitely say I was intimidated by this one the first time around but the more you listen to it, the more you dive deeper into the trip... The guitar/bass combo is a killer, the drums make you wanna go ape-sh** on sbd, Maynard's vocals are hauntingly captivating... 13 yrs later, feels like day 1 all over again
Danny Carey does a drum clinic at one of the universities he does a play through along with this song it's on you tube I highly recommend you check it out man he'll blow your mind watching him play 2 different time signatures at the same time.
THAT intro by the way, the very first droning/wailing noise...is...a....
Bass guitar. Jambi riff - not. 😁
With time passed I started to focus more on tragic side of this song instead of humorous one. Just try to seriously imagine and feel it: you’ve been a looser all your life, haven’t even graduated from high school, never done anything significant, and now you have a chance, probably the only one ever, to do something worthy (“I’m meant to be a hero”). And you loose this chance, ruining not only your own life but also other people’s, with no way of fixing this mistake, because of your own stupidity (forgetting a pen in this case). Just try to feel what a person would feel in this situation. Miserable, lost, wasted. You probably would want even to commit suicide at that point. And in the last third of the song you get stuck on one though, one idea, developing a kind of obsession - don’t know, won’t know. And you scream wildly of your own weakness and worthlessness. Terrifying and tragic.
While the initial interpretation of sarcasm towards self-called prophets is relevant, I think this song has two sides, and the one I just described touches me deeply and makes me appreciate the song even more.
Wow thank you
Best "Talk Box" solo ever.
Found this channel three days ago and watching your evolution as a Tool fan has been emotional, definitely the best reaction videos to their epic discography! Keep up the awesome work bro! 🤘
ps. Would love to see you react to “Ice Nine Kills” album “The Silver Scream”.
The song was based on a "story" from Bill Manspeaker (from Green Jello). Bill has known Maynard and Danny since before Tool existed, as they were all playing in Green Jello at the time. They have been friends for decades, but one day Bill crashed into Tool's rehearsal space telling this wild story about going out in the desert and being abducted by aliens. The band wasn't sure what to make of the story, but based on the sincere fear in his voice telling the story - it was something they had trouble just writing off as a joke.
Maynard was inspired by the story and composed lyrics to the song...
Backing up a bit, some also consider "Lipman Conjuring" part of the tale.
1. Lipman Conjuring: Our subject is perhaps out in the desert on a native American reservation. Participating in a shaman experience while consuming DMT or Peyote...
2. Lost Keys: The subject awakes groggy in a hospital room. Getting his bearings, he overhears the medical staff discussing the patient.... confused, they approach and ask what happened.
3. Rosetta Stoned: The subject immediately bursts into a frantic nightmare of a story. Tracking his disoriented and jarring story, the soundtrack matches his experience of the tale.
Did it really happen? "Don't know. Won't know"... thats up to the listener to decide.
Here is a brief interview with Danny describing more behind the track: ruclips.net/video/dlJLNxe3Ga8/видео.html
Fuck off! Didnt know it was Bill. A few years ago I saw Green Jello and got to hang with the bands. Smoked a bowl with Bill. Wish I would have known, I could have asked him about it.

Definitely do Intension+Right in Two, they go together
Nice to hear somebody not just only react to Tool but also offer an opinion based on a little digging. Appreciate your insights! Im a long time Tool fan but you have made me look at songs in a different way. Cheers!
Intension leads nicely in to Right in Two but I wouldn't say it was mandatory.
Alright then, picture this if you will:
10 to 2 AM, X, Yogi DMT, and a box of Krispy Kremes, in my "need to know" pose, just outside of Area 51.
Contemplating the whole "chosen people" thing with just a flaming stealth banana split the sky like one would hope but never really expect to see in a place like this.
Cutting right angle donuts on a dime and stopping right at my Birkenstocks, and me yelping...
Holy fucking shit!
Then the X-Files being, looking like some kind of blue-green Jackie Chan with Isabella Rossellini lips and breath that reeked of vanilla Chig Champa,
Did a slow-mo Matrix descent out of the butt end of the banana vessel and hovered above my bug-eyes, my gaping jaw, and my sweaty L. Ron Hubbard upper lip and all I could think was: "I hope Uncle Martin here doesn't notice that I pissed my fuckin' pants."
So light in his way,
Like an apparition,
He had me crying out,
"Fuck me,
It's gotta be,
Deadhead Chemistry,
The blotter got right on top of me,
Got me seein' E-motherfuckin'-T!"
And after calming me down with some orange slices and some fetal spooning, E.T. revealed to me his singular purpose.
He said, "You are the Chosen One, the One who will deliver the message. A message of hope for those who choose to hear it and a warning for those who do not."
Me. The Chosen One?
They chose me!!!
And I didn't even graduate from fuckin' high school.

This is so real.
Finally it's my lucky day.
See my heart is racing,
'Cause this shit never happens to me.
Can't breathe, right now!
You believe me, don't you?
And this wasn't all in my head.
See they took me by the hand and invited me right in,
Then they showed me something.

I always took this... The dead ( The Grateful Dead) ain't touring... the were not around.. so he hadn't been on LSD lately... idk.. but still one of my favorite Tool Trax. Good Job Dude.
Tool is forever one of the greatest bands to ever grace this beautiful planet. On a side note: That Groundstate band you shared at the beginning sounds dope as hell!
I always seem to imagine a stage production opening with these two songs. Imagining the dialog mimed by 3 actors on stage. I dont know why, but i do almost every time.
Jordan Belfort: “Sell me this pen”
Tool: “YOU are the chosen one”
Dude, you gotta listen to the other tracks. I believe that an album is meant to be listened to all at once. It's a piece of art. Sure, you can separate the tracks, but the truest experience is in listening to the album as intended.
It's only 3 more tracks and they're worth listening to. It will give you a fuller understanding of the album and Tool in general and I think that's something everyone would want to see and experience with you.
Finish the album and come full circle with it. You got this.

React to Intension and Right in Two together!
Skip Viginti, and you can do Intension with Right In Two because they are somewhat related and Intension is kind of an interlude but it is pretty good.
Intension is much more than an interlude, it's one of the most underrated Tool tracks.

Nothing less than another Masterpiece. Thank You very much!
I certainly recommend Right in Two 🤘🤘
My bad I should've checked your entire Tool playlist first!
lol, all good my man enjoy 🤘🏼🤘🏼
If I could only listen to three Tool songs, they would undoubtedly be Rosetta Stoned, Lateralus and Invincible. I think they signify quite well why they are such a trascendental act in music overall regardless of taste. They took the basis for rock and metal and turned it into some kind of aesthetic completely of their own. Keep it up mate, I would love it if you kept on doing one band at a time journeys as you have so far...
My immediate suggestion is Porcupine Tree, specially albums like In Absentia, Fear Of a Blank Planet and Deadwing. They are quite beloved amongst fans of this kind of music and are honestly as deep, intricate, emotional and maybe even more musically varied than Tool IMO. Quite more nostalgic but still amazing riffs, interesting progressions and a very deep respect for the school of art-rock that has been portrayed over the years by acts like King Crimson, Tool, Pink Floyd, Rush, etc. Listen to the song Arriving Somewhere but not Here... and see what you think!
Followed by Karnivools sound awake and asymmetry album's. I prefer sound awake as a whole, but some of asymmetry sounds really tool-y. I'll be honest I'm waiting for him to get to A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. Maynards 3 bands are so distinct, but familiar because of his vocals...
@@Andy-nl8uq I agree, Sound Awake definitely is more of a cohesive listening experience, but I do prefer asymmetry as indeed it sounds quite Tooly but in a good non-ripoff kind of way. If you do like Karnivool and have never heard of Rishloo, then you should be looking up Living As Ghosts with Buildings as Teeth. You will absolutely fucking love it. Cheers.
mine would be Rosetta Stoned, Lateralus and 7empest. There's just something about 7empest that I love, maybe how it's so much more heavier than most other Tool songs
I consider Intension to be a kind of long intro to right in two in a way, a really great listen anyways.
Love it lol HAha! Im listening, remembering and watching your reaction at the same time.
The only thing I can really say about your reaction is, “same”
Have you listened to the song “disgustipated” yet?
That’s some Trippy shit too
