Just to let you know why Tool, and specifically Maynard, holds such a special place in my heart and I revere them as one of the greatest bands of all time... Is that their music helped me come to grips with and get over the fact that my own brother molested me for a year when I was 12, and it had a very, very dark impact on my life for over 20 years where I became very violent and suicidal. This song "The Grudge" helped kickstart my path of forgiveness and finding peace with that part of my life. Thank you for this reaction.

You are fabricating at this point, this is how conspiracy theorists jump to conclusions about vague and barely similar concepts. Please stop mythologising Tool's music, it's great music with wonderfully insightful lyrics that draw on metaphors eloquently and tastefully. They aren't hippies in their mid-twenties high on LSD at Burning Man, regurgitating and hilariously trying to regurgitate a westernised and bastardised new-age take on spirituality and other silly concepts/practices like astrology or numerology. 😂

Love this tune, love tool. There is a lot of talk about the scream or roar in this track, I thought I'd offer my take on it as I didn't see it in my brief review of the comments. To me, that scream is symbolic of our resistance to growth, symbolic of the desire to hang on to "being right", symbolic of our fear of giving up our anger. It is a fight to allow yourself to love and forgive those that have hurt you. At it's end is transitions into the power you can regain in your life by releasing yourself from thinking you know the motivations of other people and really listening to and connecting with them. The difficultly and turmoil that can occur in relationships when one is ready to reconcile and another is not. Ultimately to me, this song is about owning your emotions and not letting them control you. And yes, there are not words for Danny Carey, his work says it all and it cannot be argued with.

@@currentcs just poking fun. I was only 3 at the release of undertow, although growing up in a heavy music family I wouldn't be surprised if this was playing around me at the time.
I feel I have always known Tool but did not feel my true experience until delving into Lateralus, which I nabbed from my older brothers collection when he wasnt looking. The rest is history and I've worn out at least every album on CD once.

YOUR reaction starting at 13:55 brings me so much joy. Welcome. Welcome to the world of Tool. First video of yours I watched was your Fear Inoculum reaction. I had hoped you’d give them another listen and get around to The Grudge. I knew you would not be disappointed! Loved this whole video, brother! Subscriber from Chicago. 😉😀

Honestly brotha, TOOL is definitely a band that gives you a journey on every album. You really have to listen to the entire album first song to last. Each album is different but they never stray from their sound, the journey just gets more incredible throughout each album. Smartest and most insane sound in music in this generation!!! Keep it up brotha!! As Maynard would say...... Spiral Out!!

Very good quality for cheaper price headphones you got there mate. I have the exact same ones and lasted me 2years now (while being thrown about in my workbag) and they still work fine. Such good value for money those little Sonys or Pioneers

Bro as a long time Tool fan I love seeing new people react to them and dive on down the rabbit hole. Keep up the Tool reactions man. I’d love to see you react to some of their old stuff where Maynard used to do a lot of screams. I recommend Jerk Off from their EP Opiate or Ticks and Leeches from Lateralus

There are so many songs to listen to by Tool. I'd recommend any of the following: Third Eye, Eulogy, Pushit, H., Aenima, Forty Six & Two, Stinkfist, Schism, Ticks & Leeches, Reflection, The Patient, Sober, Prison Sex, 4 degrees, Sweat, Jerk Off, Hush, Opiate, Wings for Marie Parts 1 & 2, Jambi, The Pot, Vicarious, Right in Two... Seriously, throw a dart and just sit back, relax, and listen to the music lol

If you havent reacted to Wings for Marie (pt1) and 10000 days (pt2) you should it's Maynards ode to his mother who passed away after spending 27 years paralyzed

my second or third watch of this reaction. I fuckin love this song. You don't have to read too much into the lyrics to figure it out (to some level... as you all know). This brings me back to your fear inoculum review, and you wanted the 'knockout punch' first thing that popped into my head was this song. But as you know, as most of us know, the knockout punch is great, but not always needed, like in boxing, technical prowess produces a win too, and sometimes more entertaining than a knockout.

If I am not mistaken Danny Carey is one out of 10 best drummers in the WORLD. To me it is a gift from the nature like Simone Biles in gymnastuc, Ussain Bolt or Katelyn Tuohy in track in field ... you name it. My point is you have to fi d this gift in you and sustain throughout the life and don't you dare to lose it.

Artsy indeed. I've heard it said that Adam Jones isn't a normal guitar player. He paints a picture, in a way, with brush/pick-strokes. You could make a similar statement for the rest of the band. Take the fact that the whole band approaches their instruments that way, and then consider that the final product is almost always greater than the sum of its parts. (Which, considering the strength of each component, is mind boggling.) This is why Tool doesn't make bad songs, ever.

I'm a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division. All my patrols before we get out to comb Afghanistan, this is the song we listen to. What you said in the beginning is fair. The song is not anything about kicking ass. The Title The Grudge is what we hate about being deployed to the shit hole we were in. Danny Carey is probably responsible for hyping my guys up more than anything. I am 15 years the elder of my guys. We went down Spiraling being shot at and I don't think we ever panicked. 3 drummers in my platoon. We all feel like we were so smooth in bad situations. I love Tool in more ways than 1. Cheers
