Love Janis!❤ This is one of her tamer songs, and maybe one of her most popular. Try Ball and Chain - it made her famous and got her recognized( and a contract).
Ball & Chain at Monterey Pop Festival was Janis' coming out party. You'll see Mama Cass in the crowd saying WOW (Mama's & Papa's) If you learn the backstory of Topanga Canyon at the time you'd learn that Mama Cass was truly mothering many of the current and future stars of the 70's music scene. People like Joni Mitchell, James Taylor, Stephen Stills, Graham Nash and more.
It's the perfect composition. The build up from folk to country and rock in a perfect blend. Briliant musicianship converging with the faboulous voice of Janis. We are lucky to have that on record
Her cover of "Summertime" on the album is my definition of "Sublime" and near perfection. EDIT - Beth Hart is a currently popular artist who had to have been influenced by Janis. I only recently went out of my way to hear her because of others comparing her style to Janis and I agree she is one of the closest since.
YReally pleased that you liked it and really liked your analysis of it. Okay, lifelong Janis fan here. I remember when this song came out. Janis recorded it the week she died unfortunately. This was a different style for her, most of her songs were powerhouse rock and blues songs. I would suggest watching "ball and chain live at the Monterey Pop festival." You have to make sure it's that exact version. As far as your question of are there any singers today that seemed influenced by Janis, I would say do yourself a favor and watch Beth Hart. Trust me, she will blow your socks off. I would recommend starting with "Beth Hart "caught out in the rain live at Albert hall, ", and "Beth Hart "am I the one live at paradiso." Again, please make sure it's those two exact versions. You won't be ready!
Asaf Avidan❤ The most talented artist in the world!! Genius musician! - Lyrics, performance, musicality, originality.. A lot of people try to guess who his voice is similar to and many times the answer is Janis Joplin...BUT...Asaf sounds like Asaf😊 There is no other voice like his!! I promise you. When you hear his voice in those songs that I recommend to you, you'll understand- "900 Days" (In a box III) "Your Anchor"(In a box II) "Love it or Leave it" (In a box II) And there are many many more..😁 Thanks and I hope to see Him on your channel🙏
Beth Hart, Pink, Gwen Stefani, Melissa Etheridge, Mylie Cyrus, Suzi Quatro, Robert Plant, Stephen Tyler ...just to name a few influencedby the great Janis Joplin.
Well, to be honest, I can't really see her in any performers nowadays. I mean, she was really unique by giving herself 100% emotionally. If you are going into this rabbit hole, my reccomendation is that you listen Ball and chain but not live from Monterrey (the most popular version), but live from Frankfurt. Also To love somebody, Summertime, Maybe are really great songs...
Thank you for reacting to Janis Joplin, isn't she great? Here are two of my personal favorites. Cry Baby 1970 Toronto Music Express ruclips.net/video/lggad6PbHV0/видео.htmlsi=ZMnZbLqymhJcK7El What an entrance. Her voice gives me chills, especially at the end. If you like Janis, check out "Asaf Avidan" you are going to LOVE him!! He is a singer- songwriter who just finished his tour in Europe. He had to split it in half, touring 2023 AND 2024 because he is so popular in Europe. His voice can be either "Janis Joplin style" like in his "Labyrinth song" soft and sweet with acoustic guitar. Or he goes really deep and intense with his percussion on the loop machine like in "Her lies" Both have Videos in the "Asaf Avidan in a box" albums 💚 Feel free to get in touch if you want more information 😊 ruclips.net/video/oiL9ItjmHRw/видео.htmlsi=320G91iP-_TUj1LZ ruclips.net/video/Fo-qNzexDWE/видео.htmlsi=vZXPhm6Wrixv076H

This was written by Kris Kristofferson. Janis was from Port Arthur Texas.

Dude the 70s is by far the Golden age of r&b. Aretha franklin, Al green, Luther vandross, Barry white, and most of all Marvin Gaye. So many others.
@timbeatty8411 I mean, every generation is going to say the same. So you may have your opinion 🫡
That's not my generation dude. I just know music.
@@timbeatty8411 again. Opinion. 2+2=4 fact.

In these songs, his vocal range can be reminiscent of Janis Joplin❤
