Wild assed woman with the most talent in the world expressing herself like a screaming banshee. A super genius, My God how I miss this girl. My favorite for sure!
Many of her songs were covers but she tended to ad lib a lot during performances, making these songs her own. As to her own songs, Dick Cavett asked her about her song writing process and she answered: "I don't write songs, I just make them up. Writing songs is a totally different concept, I just make them up"
@@lauraclark427 I wasn't there, but it's well-known that she was on drugs and half a bottle of Jack Daniels in most of her live performances. She actually had a better voice in her recordings. This was close to the end for her and her body, broken heart, and voice were all worn out..........
@lotsoffun4716 , at this performance, it would have been booze only. It was in Canada, and the bands (Dead included) didn't want to bring ANY drugs over the border, so, the drank. Disastrous for the Dead, because, they didn't really drink! Any time you saw Jerry with a drink in his hand, it was because a fan bought it, and he didn't want to be rude. Janis was fond of cordials like Southern Comfort.. sweet stuff. As far as we know, she wasn't on heroin at this point, but she went back to her HS reunion (thanks TJ High School) and they treated her like she never left... like garbage. She was dead six weeks later
In my opinion she is the greatest female blues singer even though some people put her in rock category I don't agree with it😊😊😊 the only female I think comes close is Beth Hart singing Etta James I'd Rather Go Blind do you have to check it out😊😊😊
@@patriciadavis1393 it's what I read so probs 2nd hand so not certain she did but still we aren't reknown for the best Blues singers either being honest

It was a cover, but she did alter the lyrics in her version and inserted the mid-song rap section. It does very much reflect her perspective with what was probably the love of her life. He decided he wanted to do some traveling rather than commit at the time. He was on his way back to her when she died. The live performances vary quite a bit in quality. Because her career was so brief, every bit of concert film was released in the years following her death - the good (when the equipment was up to par and her voice rested), the bad (at the end of tours when the strain on her voice tended to show), and the ugly (when she was strung out and struggling). Her best live performances were as a guest on television shows of the day.
This is one of my favorite live performances of all time. Not just Janis - it's just so clear how hard she worked and how talented she was....you can't take your eyes off of her.
Pope, I notice a lot of commenters are asking for your reaction to Summertime. Add me to that list, please and thank you. One thing I don't see mentioned by others about her rendition of that song is what a fantastic band Big Brother and the Holding Company was. Summertime is a great example. The guitar solo is...well, you'll find out! And yes, the debate confused me, too. And yes, AI is scary. And yes, no one can replicate Janis, let alone AI!
I'm old enough to remember her and she was great but very troubled with a very sad ending. This performance was right before drugs ended her life. So much talent but her life ended before it really started just like Amy Winehouse
Thank you man! Best reaction ever, you didn't say **** until it was over, so cool. Unlike others who got to warble their lips In the middle of a beautiful song. You have a new subscriber my friend, keep up the good work.
Late 60's early 70's all the young were going to India or North Africa to find themselves. Then it was Cambodia and South America. I stayed home and noticed most of them just found themselves with a lifetime of dysentery
If I'm not mistaken, this was Woodstock, the original. I was there..... What a beautiful privilege it was,. Yes she was smacked out on heroin (all of us were a bit altered) and yes, she became a member of the 27 Club. Gone too soon, always remembered! RIP ❤
Howdy Pop I've been absent for awhile. I have a lot of catching up. The question always comes up. If you could see one artist you've never seen who would it be. Welp facts, Janis is in my top ten
Imagine having to suffer through bad singers like Billie Eilish 🙄today and be so spoiled with greatness in the 60s with queens like Janis Joplin. Where's my DeLorean? I need to go back to see this in person.
This life Version is to half from her private life. He meet the guy in Brasil but he go to casablanca to see the world because janis is to much on heroin. He would come back when shes is clean. But she died a few days bevor. Look the prime doku 'little girl blue'
Ya know Pope, I've gone back and forth with her for the better part of 50 years. I guess for me it just comes down to if I'm in the mood for Janis or not. Tonight was a 'not'. lol
I loved this woman’s music, and her for that matter, and this is one of my favourite songs but…. I’m always saddened by this version - it was late June 1970 and she was clearly very strung out. She died October 4th - just 3 months later. She’s gives it her all here, like always, but it’s not her best and it always makes me wonder “what if someone had got to her at that point?” Maybe not realistic but I can’t help the thought. So no, not my favourite version. R.I.P 🌹
Okay I'm a senior I've been rocking with Janice for 50 years she is my all-time favorite female singer and FYI Al Green is my number one male and the only female that could come close to her is Beth Hart check out her song with Joe Bonamassa I'd Rather Go Blind cover of Etta James and in my opinion she does it better than Etta James😊😊😊
Oooo, not her best performance. Poor thing had a really rough life and couldn't deal with her demons. Damn drugs and alcohol took out another brilliant artist. 😢

You were there?
She came back home to my parents ' hometown 6 weeks later, and it basically killed her

Janis was from heaven
I was a teenager at the height of Janis Joplin's career. Her voice was unmistakable and unforgettable. I love her music.

I HEARD THIS IN THE EARLY 60S BY GARNETT MIMMS AND THE ENCHANTERS. LIKE BOTH VERSIONS.
Yes she went through this...for real
Wonderful performance!

She loved Jimi Hendrix heart and soul, but he never felt it. Unrequited love
She was singing about her man. Lost loves.. broken hearts! Nothing about slanging.
You can come from all over the world to Las Vegas but you won’t see anything like that 6 nights a week.
Yes amazing 😂❤
Meravigliosamente JANIS❤
She had just a few weeks left
She was bullied really bad in school
It definitely doesn't sound like her best. She's strained her voice!!>>

When AI can approximate that, we are all in trouble.
You should listen to Garnet Mimms's (original?) version also
Yeah, it has a totally different feel to it. Mimms recorded it first, though he didn't write it.
Also, let's all sing with less help from technology's idea of tune.
