Great reaction. I felt the same when I was 13 and first heard this. My favorite at 14 was “Oh Lord Won’t You Buy Me”. I believe that this was her last song. We sang it walking to and from high school. Also “Me and Bobby McGee”. She was truly amazing and unique. Much love and appreciation from California. Brings back so many memories. ❤️🍀🌈😇🙏🏻❣️
Awesome DAD👍for exposing your daughter to older music. I wasn't sure how she would react to Janis but was pleasantly surprised with her thoughts and commentary. I'm sure she'll grow to love, and appreciate, these songs even more as she grows older. Keep on doing what you do. You guys are great.👏🏽
Great reaction. Zoey looked hypnotized through the performance! I love your honest and intelligent reactions, and the interaction between you two make them all the more fun to watch.
I was just a little kid when J.J. died but when I was a teenager I truly fell in love 💕 with her. I'm 66 years old now and still listening to Janis Joplin. R. I. P.
Janis was always an authentic tortured soul to me who could reach the depths of her audience ~ it's a joy to hear the degree of appreciating her style Zoe reveals
Good thoughts Zoey! I love Janis! I was happy to see this! She’s so unique! I’ll take this ANY day over todays auto tuned screamers that all sound alike 👍
Originally a hit for Garnet Mimms & the Enchanters back in the early 1960's. You should check out his version if you get chance, maybe not for a reaction, but just a listen.
Shawn, Zoe, good reaction. Janis has such a unique voice, raspy shriek. Cool the closeness you two have,is adorable. Suggest......"Try a little tenderness" by Otis Redding
💝💝💝 Let Zoey listen to Janis' song "Mercedes Benz" and Melanie's "Brand New Key". I love both of those songs. They are catchy and stick in your head for awhile.
I need a man ta love me ! ( Or whatever that live track is called ) off the " Cheap Thrills " album is her best vocal performance ( along with " Summertime "
I don't read it like that at all. She said she was waiting for him. She is expressing he should "let it all out" and she will comfort him. I definitely do not get that she is rejecting him. [she just wants him to experience the "punishment" he deserves for leaving her.] I don't get the idea she would reject him. [doesn't seem to imply that at all to me]
Janis was a little TOO raspy here. Her voice seemed shot and out of tune. She could really sing powerfully and soulfully but sometimes she tried too hard and she was self-destructive, her livin'-the-blues lifestyle
I have to be honest, I never rated Janice, just not my taste. I'd like to suggest a few live music videos you and your daughter might be interested in:- Def Leppard live at Whisky A Go Go 'Hysteria' Depeche Mode live in Berlin 'Enjoy the Silence' Simple Red live in Montreux 'Money's to tight to mention' Talk Talk live at Montreux 'It's my life' Peter Gabriel Secret World Live Tour 'In Your Eyes' Just some suggestions, your choice 🇬🇧
Janis, soulful as she was, is one vocalst from that era who makes me wish auto-tuner had been invented. Her pitch is painfully bad. No foolin': it genuinely hurts to listen to her.
I’m not sure I would go that far, but I’m definitely a much bigger fan of “studio” Janis than “live Janis”. You get plenty of what makes her special in the studio version. I fully recognize that we’re definitely in the minority though.
@BClarke Liked, but, in 1955 the ISO settled on A - 440 Hz You can either hear it or you can't, shap is sharp and flat is flat. Off-key is off-key. If you need a good example of off-pitch, go listen to a local church's choir; the loudest singer will always be the tone-deaf one, because they have no idea how far away they are from singing in-key. They can't discern ir, so they're all over the place. Loudly. And no one has the heart to tell them. This is why we have tuning forks and pitch pipes. This is why people TUNE guitars. This is why piano tuners make a living. Janis Joplin had terrible pitch. That's not an attack on her personality. It's just a fact.

You go girl! Carry the torch forward for all us dying hippies.
I think its adorable. You're 13 year old listening without prejudice the music I grew up cherishing. God bless yall.
Great reaction. Zoey looked hypnotized through the performance! I love your honest and intelligent reactions, and the interaction between you two make them all the more fun to watch.
The one and only Janis, leaving it all on the stage, different on each performance. Gone too soon, RIP. Great reaction you two. Blessings all. Peace.

"You're good at making me laugh" that is absolutely a dad win.
👍Awesome performance🔥🔥. There is only one Janis. She had a very unique voice. 🖖❤
One of my all time favorites. Perfect pick Shawn
Legendary Janis flame will never blow out. Nice reaction from Zoey and Shawn !!!!
Janis was always an authentic tortured soul to me who could reach the depths of her audience ~ it's a joy to hear the degree of appreciating her style Zoe reveals
Yeah, Janis had a million-in-one voice. With both soul and screaming. Such a fine female singer.
Good thoughts Zoey! I love Janis! I was happy to see this! She’s so unique! I’ll take this ANY day over todays auto tuned screamers that all sound alike 👍
Janice Joplin Anthology Album is a treasure of mine
I LOVE YOU JANIS !
One of the greatest songs ever
Janis Joplin:
“Me and Bobby McGee”
I wish I was able to speak to my daughter's like this. 😊
THANK YOU, LOVE JANIS JOPLIN AND BOZ SCAGGS.
Just a quick note Shawn, Janis is from Pt Arthur, TX.
This is the best video on the internet!!
A big CIAO! from Italy!

One thing you can say about Janis is never held back guys. She certainly was unique and she lived the Blues and she expressed the Blues.
"Shall We Dance" (2004) with Richard Gere, maybe a movie for a family Saturday night?
I'd have probably gone with a different song for Zoe's first listen but Janis is always worth exposing new ears too!
💝💝💝 Let Zoey listen to Janis' song "Mercedes Benz" and Melanie's "Brand New Key". I love both of those songs. They are catchy and stick in your head for awhile.
@@librarylady13 YES to both. Good call

Regarding the dancing comment, If you look at 1970s to 80s UK Top of the Pops, tv show, watching the audience TRYING to dance is aside show,😂🏴🇬🇧
Classic..
I would like to recommend "The Seekers" with Judith Dunham. Janis's Summertime. Another interesting voice is ZZ Ward - Cannonball
❤
Show your girl Beth Hart, seems like she would appreciate Beth's talent.
Show her Kate Bush. Great vocals, songwriting and interpretative dance.
Amazing that Janis could do this well even though she's obviously effed up on something.
Janis was always more about pasion than technical ability

Gets you in the gut.
If you want another raspy voice performance from someone, check out Paolo Nutini - Iron Sky [Abbey Road Live Session]. SOOO GOOOD
Pentatonix could be a fun reaction
I think the brilliance of these artists from the past is lost on the younger generation who are used to absolute mindless rubbish.
👍😎🇧🇻
This is the first time I’ve seen her not show any emotion
