Blues Rock is a cool genre. Led Zeppelin's songs are about 70% Blues Rock. You'd like "Since I've Been Loving You" live from Madison Square Garden. Reply
Janis had one of the most unique & powerful voices with a lot of grit. Sadly we lost her too soon. She was only 27 when she died. She had a lot of great songs in her short life such as "Me & Bobby McGee", "Piece Of My Heart", "Down On Me", "Little Girl Blue", "Summertime", "Try (Just A Little Bit Harder)", "Ball & Chain", "Get It While You Can", "Bye, Bye Baby", "Move Over", "Mercedes Benz" etc.
Rere, if you watch the video of Janis singing “Ball and Chain” at the Monterey Pop festival, you get to see her live and also get to see Mama Cass in the audience getting her mind blown by the performance.
Janis was First Lady of blues in the 60s. She took blues and married it to rock and it was explosive. She was the most popular singer when she died and she was a still is mourned. I wonder what Janis would think, a girl who was mocked for being different and marching to her own drummer in her small city in Texas to see how people still think of her, adore her, are in awe of her and mourn her.
One of my favorites. I saw Janis when she first joined Big Brother at the Avalon Ballroom in San Francisco in 1966. Followed her career until she died (too young) at 27 years old.
One of the most unique voices of all time. Every song that she sang you can tell she just lived that song. Every now and again I think what would she have sounded like if she was still around today.
Janis é eterna ao lado de Elvis e outros gigantes da musica. Musica boa mesmo pertencem ao passado! Me sinto muito bem tendo crescido e vivido minha infancia, juventude e maturidade nos anos 70/80/90 :)
After Janis recorded 'Me and Bobbie Mcgee', written by a friend Kris Kristofferson, Janis passed away. When the song was released, it went to #1. Great performance by her and the studio.
I was just a tiny kid when she was really going before she died so early. But I don't know man she's always had a mark on my soul. I cannot help but respond to her.
On September 3rd, 1970, Alan Wilson singer and guitarist from Canned Heat died, 2 weeks later Jimi Hendrix died, and 2 weeks after that Janice Joplin died. All of them were 27.
Rere, you make a ton of old American Boomers happy just playing and reacting to the music of Our Youth! It was pretty amazing to be young then!! Thanks for that.
Janis was a wonderful free spirit that gave us this amazing performances. I do recommend you listen Summer Time, or any other but live. Exceptional. Read a bit about her. Enjoy.
Loved this reaction. We all remember the first time we heard Janis Joplin. I agree with many other commenters the live version of “Ball and Chain” from the Monterey Pops festival in 1967 should be next. My all time favorite Janis is “Me and Bobby McGee” ☮️
She was a sweety and gone so young. I had a roommate at Minot AFB in the 70s who was an air traffic controller who slept with his eyes open and a big grin on his face and constantly talked to himself, but his oddest habit was dancing to Janis. You should really listen her tune called "Mercedes Benz". It's a good example of her. Good reaction.
Ball and Chain and Take a little Piece of My Heart ( both performed at Monteray Pop) and Summertime are musts. The album Pearl was not released until she had passed away. She was only 27.
Double WOW as you got tossed in the deep end of the Janis pool and swam like a Boss!! Seen a suggestion for the Live BALL AND CHAIN!! Cass Eliot of the Mama's and the Papa's is shown in the audience with jaw dropped! Great episode Rere! ME AND BOBBY MCGEE probably the biggest hit! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸🤟🏼
That was so awesome watching her blow your doors off.❤❤❤. Summertime, it was a huge hit from I think the 30s? and she did the most brilliant blue collar version of it with her slightly earlier band, before Full Tilt Boogie Band, which is what this is I believe, and all of her stuff in her short career is fantastic, including this. But yeah Big Brother and the Holding Company: right before this, there was a double album that produced a lot of hits and some great live performances that are now considered iconic. The live version is great too but definitely check out the studio version of her doing George Gershwin's Summertime. What she's doing with her voice and all these additional harmonics up on top in a perfect descending descant line? It's really mind-blowing. So emotional.
Janis was a good ol Texas girl that had a mental breakdown from a tortured childhood that caused her to have more challenges in life and she made it from there to be a great vocalist . Pearl was her last album and it is great .. You have to check out '''Me and Bobby McGee'''
Love Janis!! I took my younger sister to see Janis at Madison Square Garden, which turned out to be her last big concert before she died a few months later of a drug overdose, Which entered her into the 27 club. But putting all that aside, it turned out to be an outrageously awesome concert. The world of music certainly lost something when she lost her life.
There was a live Grammy performance celebrating Janis' life, featuring Joss Stone and Melissa Ethridge (and it was her first appearance after she beat cancer).
I wholeheartedly agree with those that recommend that you react to Janis Joplin doing ball and chain at the Monterey pops festival. Not as "good" as cry baby, but rather, even better than cry, baby.
There is an absolute ton of the mixing of Blues and rock back then, some of the biggest bands, Led Zeppelin and what not. But I would highly recommend you check out the British band, Ten Years After, they were influential about the same time as Janis. I'd Love To Change The World was a huge hit by them in the early seventies. And they were really only around for about four or five years, but they were tremendous.
"Misery 'n" by JJ, for something a little different, but still entirely hers. Also check out "Turtle Blues". This is a blues/gospel song. Janis was all blues, and only a little rock. Her big hit "Me and Bobby McGree" was actually a folk song, which is how she began. You hear her voice once and you never forget it. Welcome to the rest of your musical life.
Janis was bigly influenced by Big Mama Thornton, who I think did this song, and my favr Sweet Little Angel, both woreth checking out. Ball and Chain live from Janis at Monterrey is legendary too.
If you want to know more, & hear some of her songs, watch the movie “The Rose”, starring no slouch of a singer herself, Bette Midler. What a loss losing Janice at age of 27. The movie goes into it all. I am from Houston, Janice is from Baytown just south. A very different personality, didn’t fit in in school age, but went for it as soon as she was out. Started off in Austin, quickly to Ca. Lived fast & hard, she is loved by my generation.
Summertime album version is the definition of "Sublime" - Beth Hart is one of the closest singing styles in modern era. Her cover of Led Zeppelin is powerful and emotional.
Also check out the live performance. Just as intense in terms of movement as in singing. Joe Cocker is the male version of Janis in terms of intensity. Just pick any song of these two and enjoy.😀
Not all of her songs have the powerhouse vocals, but the ones that do, really do. I would recommend: Me and Bobby McGee (studio version, from the album 'Pearl', same album that has 'Cry Baby' you just listened to) A Woman Left Lonely (studio version, from the album 'Pearl') Mercedes Benz (studio version, from the album 'Pearl') Summertime (live, 1969) ruclips.net/video/bn5TNqjuHiU/видео.html Piece of My Heart (Live at The Grande Ballroom, Detroit, March 1968) ruclips.net/video/PAMNut-_GhU/видео.html Ball and Chain (live version, Monterey Pop Festival, 1967) ruclips.net/video/X1zFnyEe3nE/видео.html
Ball and Chain live from Monterey Pop Festival launched her career. That should absolutely be your next stop along this amazing artists all too brief life and career.
Wow indeed. Janis was a force of nature. Pure talent. She exposes her soul, bares it for all to see. Astonishing. Please do yourself a favour and explore her deeply. "All you ever got to do is be a good man, one time, to one woman, and that'll be the end of the road". She is sadly a member of the "27 club". Incredibly talented people whose life ended at 27 years old (others? Brian Jones, Jimi Hendrix, Jim Morrison, Kurt Cobain and Amy Winehouse to name a few.
Cry Baby is an excellent first intro to her. That whole album is freakin dope. Another great one that no reactor has done, off this same album, is "A Woman Left Lonely". Even if you don't react to it, check it out on your own. BTW, she died at 27. She's sadly part of "The 27 Club".

You know you need it ........ Ball and Chain live from Monterrey Pop! One of her best live performances.
A must listen!
Her break out Moment. 1967 🔥🔥🔥🎵🎶🎵🎶
WoW woman is Mama Cass
This!!!

Her version of Me And Bobbi McGee is a classic and a must-listen
Rere, if you watch the video of Janis singing “Ball and Chain” at the Monterey Pop festival, you get to see her live and also get to see Mama Cass in the audience getting her mind blown by the performance.
Two artists who were phenomenal singers but tragically were taken from us too soon. And we're also tragically bullied for not conforming to the norm
Beautiful reaction. Blues artists didn't care how they looked or about hitting every note they just wanted you to feel the music in your gut
There is a video of this song (Cry Baby) live in Toronto you NEED to hear!!! Also Ball and Chain from Monterey Pop Fest
Janis was First Lady of blues in the 60s. She took blues and married it to rock and it was explosive. She was the most popular singer when she died and she was a still is mourned.

She was a gift to the world , was only here a short time.
One of the greatest blues singers ever.
One of the most unique voices of all time. Every song that she sang you can tell she just lived that song. Every now and again I think what would she have sounded like if she was still around today.
Summer time is a amazing song probably one of the greatest Summer time Janis Joplin
Janis é eterna ao lado de Elvis e outros gigantes da musica.
Musica boa mesmo pertencem ao passado!

Great reaction, Re! When Janis sang, you'd swear she was tearing her throat out. She was 27 when she passed in 1970
, RIP.
Gotta see Janis live, she's amazing. Ball and Chain or Little Girl Blue from the Tom Jones show, really anything live.
Another vocal beginning to a tract like this one is "Since I've Been Loving You" Led Zeppelin live at Madison Square Garden 1973!
"WOW"... is right !! Saw her twice in '68 and '69. She was awesome !!
“Wow!” is wholly appropriate.
Piece of my Heart by Janis...👍
She was a amazing person very kind and loving she was fun caring...she wasn't this sad all the time person people make her out to be...
Just hear her singing 'Summettime' to realise the amazing magic of Janis Joplin.
one of the members of club 27 she was a huge role model for many female singers
After Janis recorded 'Me and Bobbie Mcgee', written by a friend Kris Kristofferson,
Janis passed away. When the song was released, it went to #1. Great performance
by her and the studio.
I was just a tiny kid when she was really going before she died so early. But I don't know man she's always had a mark on my soul. I cannot help but respond to her.
Take it from an old man 65 Janis was awesome!!

Rere, you make a ton of old American Boomers happy just playing and reacting to the music of Our Youth! It was pretty amazing to be young then!! Thanks for that.
More to come!
You have just heard a true ICON!
If she dont hit you right in the heart nobody will. Makes me very sad that she died so young.
Janis was absolutely a one-of-a-kind talent. There never will be another like her.
🙌🏽
Janis was a wonderful free spirit that gave us this amazing performances. I do recommend you listen Summer Time, or any other but live. Exceptional. Read a bit about her. Enjoy.
She is one of many early blues singers to pave the way for women of rock! Also, feel free to check out her and Tom Jones doing a song.
Loved this reaction. We all remember the first time we heard Janis Joplin. I agree with many other commenters the live version of “Ball and Chain” from the Monterey Pops festival in 1967 should be next. My all time favorite Janis is “Me and Bobby McGee” ☮️
Janis has a voice like no other, I hope you enjoy it! I sure do 👍😎
Watch: Ball and Chain at Monterrey rock festival is what let the world discover her...watch it live. Extraordinary. She was a super star.
Joe Cocker, an Englishman from the same era, also sings rock songs with a heavy blues influence.
I think a lot of bands and singers from this time period had blues elements in their music
The joy on your face!
Loved it!
Alanis Morisette - You Oughta Know (Official 4K Music Video). Female singer. Alternative rock from 1995.
It's amazing the body of work she put out in just a short amount of time. Just throw a dart at a wall of songs with her. You will not go wrong.
Janis’s voice gives me chills…in the best way possible
the key to what you're saying is "never in my life" have I heard. So glad you are exploring the roots of modern music. great job
Summertime will blow you away. And make sure you check out her live performance at Monterrey Pop.
And what a great band the Full Tilt Boogie Band were.
You really need to check out Janis live, she is amazing live in concert!
She passed in 1970 at 27.
She was a sweety and gone so young. I knew what you were in for and couldn't wait for your reaction to the intro. Best ever. I love that you went back and played it again.
Both Summertime and Me and Bobby McGee are masterpieces that you must hear!
Janis was in a relationship with "Pigpen" McKernan...member of The Grateful Dead A Band YOU MUST CHECK OUT.....try Good Lovin (studio) for starters
Ever imagine the 27 club jamming in the afterlife?..... Heaven indeed.
Ball and Chain and Take a little Piece of My Heart ( both performed at Monteray Pop) and Summertime are musts. The album Pearl was not released until she had passed away. She was only 27.
Janis was marvelous!! She has blessed us all with her talent 😊

You'll be blown away!
She was 27 when she passed, part of the 27 Club
Ball and Chain live from Monterey Pop Festival launched her career. That should absolutely be your next stop along this amazing artists all too brief life and career.
React to Joplin "Ball and Chain" live at Monterrey Pop Festival 1967.
As my Dad told me the day he introduced me to Janis (Me and Bobby McGee I think) - 'If God were a woman, and she sang..'
Re your doing some good stuff on here
Thank you 🫶🏽

She wrote this song for Jim Morrison according to her memoirs.

She does a great live version
I heard a tape of Janis singing a song straight and she really did a great job of it. Later she invented that hyper-active, raspy, bluesy persona.
