This is a great rock band that started in the 70's. Ann Wilson has one of the most powerful female voices. And her sister Nancy can play a mean guitar. They have had so many great hits such as "Crazy On You", "Magic Man", "What About Love", "Never", "Dog & Butterfly", "These Dreams", "Alone" etc.
Nancy also has a great voice. She just gets overshadowed by Ann. She HAS taken lead on These Dreams as well as Stranded. Not the same resume as her sister, but still a fine singer in her own right
I saw Heart at the Mid-South Colosseum in Memphis Tennessee in 1986. Ann and Nancy were both sick with the flu and still performed immaculately. It was an amazing show. Great memories.
The Wilson sisters were teens when Beatlemania swept through the world in the 60's. While almost all other teenage girls dreamt of dating the guys, some even thought there could be marriage in the future. Meanwhile, Ann and Nancy looked at it from a different perspective; they wanted to grab a guitar, a mic and become The Beatles. They overcame a lot of pushback as women in the male dominated rock music scene in the 1970's and beyond. This song was written in response to a record exec that hinted the girls might be more than sisters. Kind of a sleazy move, and the sisters caled him out as acting like a barracuda. Today this song is a standard on the karaoke circuit.
Good explanation I think they were both so angry at being called lovers to sell more tickets that they didn't care who they offended to tell the guy to F off.
Two of my favorite rockers. Like most of the guys my age Ann held a special place in my heart and Nancy wowed us all with her guitar skills. Magic Man and Crazy on you are required listening. BTW they are still touring. Your selections lately have been taking me back to my 20s. The silly thing was we all expected them to be this quality or we wouldn't listen. No tech tricks, just talent.
After seeing you react to Heart, a band that I grew up with. I have to say I truly am enamored with your mind. I truly appreciate how respectful and passionate you are about all this music that came before you! I thank you for the feeling I get when your eyes light up when you hear wonderful parts of songs! Thank you Thank you Thank you!
Oh that's so interesting. My cousin met them, actually. And I remember as a kid just starting to learn guitar when the Wilson sisters really pushed hard on those Ovation guitars with the rounded backs. But the thing is, for that time in the 70s, if you're going to be doing acoustic stuff, that's not super traditional, they really did sound good. But they were kind of expensive. At any rate, Heart just exploded into our social fabric when we were in junior high and high school. It was on the radio all the time and many of us bought the albums. I remember my teen-aged sister being instantly enamored of their hit, Magic Man, laugh. They really rocked; they did Seattle proud. Bellevue to be specific, I believe.
The mid 1970's had some great classic songs from that era in addition to Barracuda (1977). Songs such as "Hotel California" (1976), "Bohemian Rhapsody" (1975), "More Than A Feeling" (1976), "Only the Good Die Young" (1977), "Killer Queen" (1974), "Maybe I'm Amazed" (live 1976), "Rock'nMe" (1976), "Don't Fear the Reaper" (1976), "Somebody To Love" (1976), "Walk This Way" (1975), "Sweet Emotion" (1975), "Girl's School" (1977), "Cold as Ice" (1977), "Go Your Own Way" (1977), "Sweet Home Alabama" (1974), "Takin' Care of Business" (1974), and "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" (1977).
Great Reaction...... Heart is a DEEP Rabbit Hole....... The Lead Singer and Lead Guitar player are Sister.... Ann (Vocals) and Nancy (Guitar) Wilson...... Heart Started in early 1970's.... They played a cover of "Stairway to Heaven" at the Kennedy Center Honors concert for Led Zepplin in 2020..... Ann Dueted with Disturbed song in 2022..... "Don't Tell Me"......
Heart did a cover of Stairway to Heaven to honor Led Zeppelin (copy and paste) "Heart - Stairway to Heaven Led Zeppelin - Kennedy Center Honors HD" It's outstanding!
I was vaguely aware that was a "country" singer named Gretchen Wilson, long after "country" music stopped being country but before it stopped being music at all. Yesterday I ran after covering this song. She sounds JUST like Ann. Damn. If I was using a computer and not a POS phone, the link I saved to the clipboard would actually transfer!🤬🤬🤬🤬
I saw them do this live during their tour for the "Little Queen" album in 1977. This is the first song on Side One of the album. Great way to start a record, isn't it? Ann Wilson is, in my opinion, one of the best vocalists in rock. I've had the pleasure of seeing her, Steve Perry of Journey, and Freddie Mercury of Queen back in the late seventies and early eighties. You want a female lead vocalist? Try any song by The Warning, 3 sisters from Monterrey, Mexico who are lighting the world on fire!
I'm sure others will tell you the underlying story here and it is pretty fascinating. But I can tell you liked what you were seeing and hearing. I highly encourage you to check out their album before this which was their breakout album. They had a couple monster Hits right before this: Crazy On You Magic Man
🔥🔥🔥🔥 .... You are witnessing excellence in Rock , especially female lead singer Rock !! I am going to give you some advice from an older American man .......... listen to every single Heart song that you can. I recently saw them in concert - AMAZING ! You will see Nancy Wilson master the guitar and she is a talented singer , and then there is her sister Ann Wilson , the lead singer. Ann could possibly be the best female singer of all time in Rock. Take the dive into Heart , try "These Dreams". These are real legends Rere. 🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
HEART had to deal with a lot of Label issues through the years, especially Ann the lead singer because of multiple reasons that the label demands caused 😕 I've been a Dj since 1981 so I got to see and hear about alot of the issues that bands had to deal with from their label... SO SAD
Saw Heart in the 80s , mister mister was the opening act! Double bill if you ask me! Ann Wilson has the best female rock voice in the business. Check out their song , Alone
Yes - it was against their label....but the talent of the two sisters, Ann & Nancy Wilson, was so supreme, the label had to put up with it to keep the sisters in the label. Ann's voice is one of the greatest in Rock history - never mind male or female.
Also, if you want some great female vocals in Rock, they abound, both old and new. For old-school and classic female rockers, do more Heart plus Pat Benatar, Joan Jett, Janis Joplin, Fleetwood Mac and Grace Slick with the Jefferson Airplane (later Starship) would be great to check out. They are all Hall of Famers and would blow you away! For some acts that have saved Rock for me in the last 10 to 15 years, all with female leads, try Halestorm, The Warning, Dorothy, Plush and Liliac, amongst others. They mainly started small, doing amazing covers but quickly became killer groups with their own great music. They all tour and constantly make amazing new music, you can see any of these in the present day. They would be worth checking out if you ever get the chance. Enjoy!
Heart was one of the top female led groups for sure. If you want more female leads try Pat Benatar, The Bengals, The Runaways, The Go-Go’s, there’s others whose names I am blanking on.
Pink Floyd - Have a Cigar. Lyrics about corporate greed and corruption in the record industry. Back then if you sold millions of albums you could say almost anything you wanted.
When we were young in the 70s it was all about the music. Yeah we did listen to some lyrics but it didn't matter because again, it was all about the music
PART II 😁 Ok I recommend you see the Ann Wilson interview on the Professor Of Rock channel. You will enjoy the heck out of listening to what she says and I'm captivated by her tone! 💞☮️
The band wrote this song, released in 1977. It’s nice that you get so into the music that you close your eyes to experience and feel it. However, you missed out watching the female guitarist singing the bridge with her sister. Maybe you noticed or heard the guitarist sister. You did not mention her in your reaction though. Some newcomers may confuse her for a longhair male guitarist. Her name is Nancy Wilson.
Good point about writing songs attacking the record company execs. They must have had an alternative song meaning ready to use if they were asked about it, what’s known as ‘plausible deniability’.
The Wilson sisters (Ann & Nancy) are extremely talented and still going today. I HIGHLY recommend as much Heart as possible (both live and studio) especially from their 70's progressive rock days with their first and most talented line up. Some More Heart Recommendations: "Magic Man" Live 1976 (and Studio version) "Crazy on You" Live 1978 (and Studio version) "Love Alive" "Nada One" "Sing Child" "Heartless" "Without You" (Badfinger cover) "Cry to Me" "Say Hello" "Straight On" "Dog & Butterfly" "Mistral Wind"
Ann Wilson was one of many great vintage female rockers. You should also check out Pat Benatar, Joni Mitchell, Linda Ronstadt, Janis Joplin, Grace Slick, Stevie Nicks, Chrissie Hynde, and Joan Jett
Heart was the s hit a k a American Slang for great fabulous interesting in the latter 70s ..Things got slack for them by 1981and they nearly were ready quit the music business and they had a great comeback in 1985 ...Crazy on You and Magic Man were their first popular hits that made the famous and they are great for checking out
I haven't listened to your video yet but I will in a second, 1st I wanted to say that I saw Heart perform Barracuda live as they opened for Jeff Beck, Boston Gardens circa 1970's. Just saw them on your video, they were so awesome back then, not to many talanted women guitarists & vocals back then. Watch the Wilson sisters at the kennedy center honors for Led Zepplin, they just got better !
Saw them in Bakersfield, California 1977 when I was 15... I won tickets from the local radio station, ran to the front of the stage, ditched my friends... I was literally feet away from Ann Wilson, they played songs from Dreamboat Annie and their new album Little Queen One of the best concerts I've ever been to
I saw them open for the Doobie Bros in a small venue in upstate NY in the mid '70's and I recorded their first album Dreamboat Annie before it was released on a reel to reel tape player when it was premiered on a Toronto radio station. While I love them and that first album, 40 yrs or so later I was blown away by this performance of one of their tunes - wait for the second song when Grace brings the sisters out with her and they rock it out. ruclips.net/video/52CkLQEsaUc/видео.html
My understanding is that they were targeting a specific male from their label whom they believe started and perpetuated a false rumor that the sisters were intimately involved with one another. The story goes he thought that kind of salacious buzz would help propel album sales. 😡
Yeah, and there was a specific incident, either with the guy who was responsible or just someone making an ugly comment to her because of the article, I forget which. But either way, Anne went right up to her hotel room and penned this song in her anger.
They did a live version of Stairway to Heaven that put a tear in Robert Plant's eye. I subscribed because I like your reactions. Keep up the good work.
In 2007, Gretchen Wilson (no relation) sang a great cover of Barracuda with the band, Alice In Chains. More recently, the all girl rock band, "Plush" frequently does cover songs of Heart including Barracuda. BTW I'm currently reading a great book called, "Kicking and Screaming: A Story of Heart" by Ann & Nancy Wilson published in 2012.
Try the three sisters from Mexico: The Warning. Four albums already and the bass player is still only 19. Hard (sometimes punkish) rock, with some ballads that will make a grown man cry (hands up). If The Warning Army (TWA) shows up here, you'll be drafted.
Check out Heart doing a cover of Led Zeppelins stairway to heaven at the Kennedy Center Honors. Honoring Led Zeppelin life long career achievements. Led Zeppelin is present minus drummer John Bonham who died years ago, his son Jason sits in on drums for this performance. A must see...
It has been my choice, suggested by some artists long ago, to disregard ‘official’ explanations of a song’s meaning. I choose to interpret the meaning myself. And what I’ve found is that as years pass and my life experience grows, the meaning of the song deepens. Every time I revisit the song, I find new meaning. The song becomes more meaningful to me because my understanding of it grows. It becomes more personal. And yet, I can still share that with others enjoying their own personal connections to it. ✌️😊💕
Ok, Rere. Heart is a rock band founded by singer Ann and guitarist Nancy Wilson who are sisters from Seattle, Washington. A few suggestions. YOU BETTER RUN by Pat Benatar. DAMN, I WISH I WAS YOUR LOVER by Sophie B. Hawkins. I'VE GOT THE MUSIC IN ME by Kiki Dee. MIDDLE OF THE ROAD by the Pretenders. Chrissie Hynde is the lead singer. And finally, I HATE MYSELF FOR LOVING YOU by Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. Thus should be enough for a while. Keep going and enjoy the music.
The bottom line for the corporation is profit, of course. If they feel the song will make them money then they will release it. If it exposes corruption in the industry and still makes money, so be it. I hope this helps. I really enjoy your reactions! PJ
Outside of RUSH in my opinion the most talented ensemble of their time. Their first 2 albums are in my Top 20 easy! Great Reaction Rere! Live performance of DREAMBOAT ANNIE is a dream to observe! Peace 🕊️☮️♾️😎🎸🤟🏼
OK kid, here's the story. Some guy from a record label or something said to Ann Wilson, the lead singer , that it would be cool if the sisters would make believe they were sexually involved with each other. ANN hit the sealing and was so mad she went off and wrote this song. It is one of their greatest hits. There you go. NANCY is the guitar player and her sister.
Ok, Rere. Thet didnt tell the record company they were pointing the finger at them. They just made it. The label thought it was a hit. And it was a big hit. The meaning came out later. By then, it was too late. Keep your phone nearby. You can always check the lyrics after the song.
This might help you Rere ... when you do your reactions , pull up the lyrics on another screen. You can stop a little here and there and refer to the lyrics to help you understand the song as it plays. You are a very good reactor and please keep these 70s gems coming. Thanks 🎼🍁🎼
You're first Heart song? What?? Well get goin with the rest! Magic Man, Crazy on you, Heartless, Straight on and Stairway to Heaven....the Led Zeppelin tribute!!
If you want more female rock music to react to, I would recommend a band called "The Warning". Any live songs from their Pepsi Center or Teatro Metropolitan shows are great.
You need to check out Pat Benatar. Great female Rock vocalist. Check out her song Promises in the dark. You’ll be blown away! Trained Opera singer doing Rock.
If you long for great female bands in a similar style, check out american Fanny from the early 70s! Or the british glamrock Sweet ( that looked like girls :) They had a few great songs as well. (I guess you already know about females like Deborah Harry, Janis Joplin, Agnetha Fältskog and other pop stars of the 70s.)
Although this song is a protest against exploitation, it is not what you think. It is worse. Their label, Mushroom Records, released a fictitious story saying that Ann Wilson (the lead singer) and her sister Nancy Wilson (the blonde guitarist) were having an incestuous affair.
The attitude about how "backwards" people must have been in the 70s is always surprising. While the world has changed, I think youngsters overestimate the level of change.
You need to listen to Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb and time is a good one Pink Floyd is my favorite group to listen to been listening to them for many years and they have a lot of good songs
Yes❤❤ So Many Hits......
Excellent list. I also think Rere would enjoy the funky groove of "Straight On."
Nancy also has a great voice. She just gets overshadowed by Ann. She HAS taken lead on These Dreams as well as Stranded. Not the same resume as her sister, but still a fine singer in her own right
When Led Zeppelin was honored at the Kennedy Awards, Heart did a wonder rendition of Stairway to Heaven. Ann's voice is still rocking.
The band had one of the best underrated lead guitarist and drummer, bassist ever. The sisters overshadowed the band.
Ann Wilson the singer has a great voice!! Her sister Nancy is the blonde playing guitar
This was off their second album "Little Queen" which was released on their new label, Barracuda was about their first record label.

She is 72 now. Still Awesome
I just saw Heart earlier this year they're still at it. You cannot go wrong with anything Heart from any era! ❤️🙏
The drummer was outstanding in this song.
1:06 you’ve never heard heart before??? you just found yourself one of the best female rock bands of all time. Enjoy it.🎉😂❤
Her big strong voice really comes through with their other song called
Crazy for you
Best bands period.
Heart never was a female rock band.
70's vest era of music SO many good bands
Heart is the real deal. One of the best things to ever come out of Seattle! Thanks for sharing this one.
One of the greatest rock singers of all time. Her sister was no slouch vocally either.
Ann Wilson is my #1 female singer all-time! I saw Heart in the 80's and they were great! They are touring again next year!
The Bangles - Hazy Shade of Winter (Official Video). Female pop rock band. Simon & Garfunkel cover.
Around the time this was came out there were rumors that the two sisters had some kind of thing for each other, no doubt started by 'barracudas'.
Ann is so damn pretty here. And Nancy as well. Sisters chiseled from some fine Rock.
You are going to live this band…extremely talented with toms of great songs from the 70’s and 80’s--my childhood
Ann and Nancy Wilson are sisters and they are Heart.
FWIW, this is the studio version of the song over what appears to be live performance footage.
Heart did a cover of Stairway to Heaven to honor Led Zeppelin (copy and paste) "Heart - Stairway to Heaven Led Zeppelin - Kennedy Center Honors HD" It's outstanding!
Heart was my 3rd concert experience. It was fantastic.
😮😍
I was vaguely aware that was a "country" singer named Gretchen Wilson, long after "country" music stopped being country but before it stopped being music at all. Yesterday I ran after covering this song. She sounds JUST like Ann.
Damn. If I was using a computer and not a POS phone, the link I saved to the clipboard would actually transfer!🤬🤬🤬🤬
First concert I went to was Heart on this tour I was 15😊🎸
Ann and Babcy Wolson, one of the few female led groups in rock....great band great voices.....
I saw them do this live during their tour for the "Little Queen" album in 1977. This is the first song on Side One of the album. Great way to start a record, isn't it? Ann Wilson is, in my opinion, one of the best vocalists in rock. You want a female lead vocalist? Try any song by The Warning, 3 sisters from Monterrey, Mexico who are lighting the world on fire!
The lyrics are rather obscure and symbolic, that's mainly why they are hard to make out.
Her sister is the blonde singing and guitar playing
We have the best catalogue of music here in Seattle
I'm sure others will tell you the underlying story here and it is pretty fascinating. But I can tell you liked what you were seeing and hearing. I highly encourage you to check out their album before this which was their breakout album. They had a couple monster Hits right before this:
Crazy On You
Magic Man
Being a teenager in the 70's I don't know of any guys that didn't fall in love with Ann Wilson if Heart. I among them.❤

Before the internet, we had cable and MTV. Before that Radio ruled. Heart got a lot of radio air play.

Here’s a suggestion from early 70s, “ballroom blitz “ by the band Sweet. You’re going to love this 😂
Saw Heart in the 80s , mister mister was the opening act! Double bill if you ask me! Ann Wilson has the best female rock voice in the business. Check out their song , Alone

Ann n Nancy are my Fav Women Rockers Ever😊❤❤
Another woman in rock you should check out: Pat Benatar “Promises in the Dark”, Hell is For Children, All Fired Up
They did a live version of Stairway to Heaven that put a tear in Robert Plant's eye. I subscribed because I like your reactions. Keep up the good work.
Another good song with a female artist singer is, Baby it's You - By the Promises
In 2007, Gretchen Wilson (no relation) sang a great cover of Barracuda with the band, Alice In Chains.
PJ
Heart is not the only band to push back against the record companies. Rush's song, "Spirit of Radio" is along a similar vibe.
Heart rocks! More Heart songs: Never, These Dreams, Crazy On You, What About Love, Stariway To Heaven (A Led Zeppelin cover song)
Thanks to Nancy Wilson
Thanks 🎼🍁🎼
He is quite correct, it is the best way to know what is really being sung.
checkin in...
You're first Heart song? What?? Well get goin with the rest! Magic Man, Crazy on you, Heartless, Straight on and Stairway to Heaven....the Led Zeppelin tribute!!
Thank you!!
I highly recommend doing a react to Deep Purple’s 1970 live version of Child In Time
You won’t be disappointed
Hi there you.....Saw them live
Ann wrote this.
Check Heart at led zeppelin celebrating led zeppelin. Wonderful.
Hi there from Melbourne Australia. I am Aboriginal. You should try Yothu Yindi
Although this song is a protest against exploitation, it is not what you think. It is worse. Their label, Mushroom Records, released a fictitious story saying that Ann Wilson (the lead singer) and her sister Nancy Wilson (the blonde guitarist) were having an incestuous affair.
Mike needs a beer! Let them skins cool off!
💯
The attitude about how "backwards" people must have been in the 70s is always surprising. While the world has changed, I think youngsters overestimate the level of change.
You should check out R.E.M. Everybody Hurts.
Gotta check out Beth Hart and Joe Bonamassa - I'll take care of you ( But the live version ) x
Nice. For rock I recommend you listen Joan Jett, Jefferson Airplane, Suzi Quatro. Maybe miss spelling. Sorry. Believe it will worth.
You need to listen to Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb and time is a good one Pink Floyd is my favorite group to listen to been listening to them for many years and they have a lot of good songs
Listen to heart stairway to heaven live at Kennedy center
rime for THE GRATEFUL DEAD!!!
