Short, sweet, and to the point. No obscure tools, no complications, Zippos typically only have 3 possible problems (rarely 4, being the wheel, which I've seen 40 year old Zippos still function with the same wheel) It's either out of fluid, needs a new flint, or needs fresh wick. Thank you for the video! I was sick of smoking with Bic lighters like some crackhead. Glad I got mine working again because of this video!
I couldn't see anything because I had to turn the video off. That f@cking noise was giving me a F@cking Migraine! If people can't do a narrative then just let it be a silent picture...
Thanks for the video! What's really cool about Zippos, besides the obvious, is that you can use the Zippo as a tool to do pretty much all servicing. You can use the shell lid to pry up the nozzle on the fluid can (as you did), you can use the nozzle of the fluid can to pry up the felt pad, you can use the shell lid to screw/unscrew the Flint screw and you can use the shell with the lighter upside down inside to fill with fluid (as you showed in video)...pretty rad.
Great video…just started using one again since old Marine days over 50 years ago…it all came back to me! Now, if you can do one on disassembly and reassembly of an M14 in the dark that would bring THAT back to me, I would be REALLY impressed!👍😁
lol every once ina while I have to do something different to keep my sanity hahaha believe it or not some dont like the talking but I do thats why most of my videos I talk...
Hi. Thanks. Of all the methods used for filling, recommended by Zippo and other techniques, the most precise is unscrewing the screw for the flint then use a jeweller's flathead screwdriver (2.3mm one), inserting it in the small hole in the middle lift the whole felt thing at the bottom and then fill the insert with an absorbent material like a sheet of kitchen towel set aside for the zippo to absorb any drips and then without squeezing the fuel (Zippo brand, dispensing at the rate it's dispensing. Other compatible fuel brands may have a different flow rate), fill it, at stop immediately as soon as you see that the rayon (cotton stuff) shows the first sign of saturation. It take about 29 to 30 seconds (one thousand one, one thousand two...) to saturate it which means it fully refilled. Assemble it back together. Keep the insert upright so that the used flint won't lose it's groove alignment with the wheel that grinds it, else it'll be hard to turn. This is not a problem if the flint is new. I'm currently using a black gasket for the bottom which is seems to be silicone, hopefully it seals the bottom well, to prevent too much evaporation, coz' a full refill, seems to only last 4 days when not in use. Until Zippo has the sealing mechanism and build quality of the chinese brand Zorro (I hope they buy their IP and apply it to Zippo), Zippos the gas fueled one (the regular type) as much as it's an iconic, beautiful design, close to steampunk, it's really not worth it, unless it's for display and fidgeting (without the lid open coz' that easily breaks when it falls), the butane insert is of course more practical but that will lose the reason you bought Zippo (one might as well buy a nice butane fueled one from another brand that started off as a butane lighter (has a butane lighter heritage). The impracticality is really for the experience. Some seal it with rubber tubing but that'll take away the display quality to these amazing looking Zippos. Zippo truly needs to upgrade their design so that it doesn't evaporate like butane (Zorro brand did it, so they can they). God bless, Rev. 21:4
Pro tip when you insert the wick fold the top end over in itself so when you pull from the bottle it will only go to the bend in the wick and won’t pull all the way through when you go to push in the packing material. Once done take pliers and unfold the end of wick and pull out more if needed. Some demos say to fold the wick over the chimney and then cut it down after but it’s an unnecessary waste of wick.
Eh it’s just well taken care of although still good enough to be that sharp my edc knife is much sharper but his is a good sharpness for that type of blade
I like that little trick you did when filling it you put it upside down into the case. I usually dont do that and it drips onto the counter or floor. An unnecessary mess to clean up on top of the other unnecessary messes i have to clean up throughout the day😂 i will be doing what you did from now on. Thank you🤙🏻
Thanks Jeff. This video helped me. I have a walmart cheap zip and i screwed up the wick. Your video showed me the right way to fix it. But the music reminded me of kickstarter videos. lol
my dad used to put an extra flint under the first flap for emergencies! I'm more of a butane man myself -- easy and cheap to refill and less messy in the pocket
Thank you! This was a great video bc I didn’t know what the monkeys I was doing until I saw you do it and I really didn’t wanna mess it up, I’ve had my zippo for years and didn’t wanna get rid of it
Surely using a knife that sharp is not only unnecessarily dangerous but just unnecessary full stop. But each to their own. Good instructions anyway. I've just spent ages (on an empty stomach and flagging terribly I might add) swapping and changing Rayon material, wicks, etc. from different Zippos and it took me absolutely ages to feed the Wick through on my final go. It was a Zorro wick and I had started to wonder whether it was thicker than the official Zippo wicks and therefore the reason I was having so much trouble. I got there in the end by wetting and twisting one of the ends, but I'm really glad I don't have to do this again for a while 😂
First time rewicking my zippo, was following along and before i put it in the case went ‘now lets see if it worked’ and it lit up! But it wasnt in the case to i had to put it back in lit lmao. Great tutorial
Always insert the wick in a zigzag design like cotton then lay the wick to right then another cotton and lay the wick to left even some packages have that info in discription or you can google it but never put wick this way
ya know, danm near everyday I look forward to your videos because I feel like we're friends. you have so much character and your personality is 1 off. that being said, I learned about a 3rd biological brother I have today and when I logged on to watch, I was disappointed :/ you weren't there, just goofy manic homicidal tunes lol. I love that you're trying new things, but try to keep your personality in it. your voice, and all that lol. I can't wait to hangout again the next time you post :) love you dude.
Intead of mylar,I would use real cotton in place of the last ball,so in case the zippo runs out of fuel i could use it as a firestarter in an emergency situation.
My grandpa's health is declining fast and I found a zippo that has his old racecar logo on it. I can get it working again now, thanks! Do you know if I could bring it somewhere to get it looking like new again?
The wick should have been put in back in an 'S' pattern. Not sure if it makes a difference though. Ive'set up my slim and pipe lighter that way. From the factory it comes all shoved in as that is packed by a machine.
I didn't know i was opening lighter fluid cans the wrong way my whole life ... i just cut the piece of plastic off. Also nice way to fill it without having it drip out. But you should have cleaned the frame once the wick is out ;p
Glad to see you post a zippo video! Btw I bought a standard satin zippo from Walmart and it opens all the way, so that the top hits the bottom. Is it a fake?
+TheStig ZeroZeroZero I think that trick I learned from Cutlerylover a while ago - don't know why he didn't do it in this video - perhaps he though it may confuse some people ;-)
***** personally i would have just loaded the new flint under the old flint, when the old one dies the spark wheel kind of hiccups and jettisons the sliver. personal experience.
Jeff, I love your videos - but that music is maddeningly repetitive. I had to watch with volume muted. Otherwise, thanks for all the work you put into this channel, you rock!
Just bought a brand new zippo for 28$ the wick wasn't high enough and was so tightly packed into the cotton that it could not be pulled up I had to completely take the lighter apart. Real fuckin nice zippo.
+cutlerylover hey Jeff i saw this video and I was just wondering if you can maybe do a zippo collection update soon you don't have to if you don't want to,Love the vids Thanks

I assumed you’d replace the cotton packing as well but ig not
Save up all those Bic lighters. Break off the tops for a new flint and spring.

Fkin dumbo just wasting lighter fluid

Been holding onto a Zippo for a while because of its sentimental-value. Thank you for helping me learn to fix it!
I have one so ik my friends won't try n steal it
I find it incredible that you got it to light on your first try.
That’s how it’s supposed to be
you need more fluid

Man why you didn't tell a story or something... That music was horrible!
I can't stand the music
I always turn the music off when they don't talk, I HATE music on videos. I just want to watch what's going on.,g
Felt like i was waiting for a call or something
I liked it
Feels like a 5 minute elevator ride
I don't know why all the negative comments, this video is great. Very simple to understand, and my zippo is back in business. Thanks!

Zippos are cool! Dad just passed and Ima hold on to his us army zippo. Never had one b4... Good video!
Keep it safe. Sorry for your loss, man.
The music is the regular song but made this peaceful.
Don't listen to them Jeff, I loved the music. And thanks for doing this video, I'm doing it while you're doing it
Lol
I dropped my flint and i know now only thing i should do is unscrew the screw at bottom and putting flint in, helpful video
Thanks for posting. Just got my first zippo for Christmas, this cleared up a few things for me.
I got the all gold zippo! Thanks for the video helped out a lot. I was going to buy a new one now I’ll keep this one

This was immensely helpful. Thank you.
You can put 3/4 flint pieced into that chamber. The spring pushes the next one into place once one has finished.

Good video, straight to the point. I found cutting the wick is hard with dull scissors.
I appreciate the concise and spartan video.
Thanks I have a zippo from 1982 and I need to replace the wick, cotton and flint I appreciate it.
Thanx brother. Before watching your video i have no idea how to maintain and change those.
Always insert the wick in a zigzag design like cotton then lay the wick to right then another cotton and lay the wick to left even some packages have that info in discription or you can google it but never put wick this way
Do you ever have to replace that fuzzy “cotton” stuff in there?
