I worked in a record store from 2000-2010 and there was a guy who worked at the grocery store near by, he came in weekly for YEARS asking, when Dat Chinese Democracy gonna come out? Finally the day arrived when Chinese Democracy was actually out! He got his album and we never saw him much after that, but when we did, you could see the look of disappointment permanently on his face. He was a changed man.

Jerry Cantrell is a goated musician. To be able to keep Alice In Chains going after Layne passed on and still put out great music is a testament to his skill and creativity.
Oh absolutely, they're every bit as good now as they were back in the 90s. Black Gives Way to Blue is like my second favorite album from them.
I had a beer with Jerry, once. it was rad. his solo, roots/country-ish stuff is incredible. I prefer Jerry solo over newer AiC. but I prefer OG AiC over Jerry solo. all good music, though. 😎
I'm not trying to start an argument but I grew up with grunge but I (and my best mate) could never get into AIC. Layne's voice (great as it is) just grates on me.
That's kind of how I feel about Soundgarden, although I do like a handful of their songs. @@simondavies109
Dang, I actually really enjoyed the new Pearl Jam album. First one I've checked out since like the '90s, and even though you've gotta read lyrics while you're listening like you're watching a foreign movie with subtitles, I think it's pretty okay.
I thought it was pretty good too.

The new Judas Priest is some of the best Priest since the 80s. They are killing it in their golden years.

I appreciate you putting some respect on Judas Priest's name, despite them not really aligning with your personal tastes! My personal favorite band of all-time.
Love watching your channels even if I don't always agree with you - you always state your points well and are among the most engaging music youtubers. Your haters don't know what they're talking about - it's important interact with people you don't always agree with, and do it in good faith. It's called a discourse or conversation. We don't always align, like I said, but I always appreciate your perspectives!
Couldn't agree more. This is why I watch Finn. I don't agree with some of his views but to stay open-minded you should challenge your beliefs often. Anyway, wouldn't it be boring to watch only people you agree with? 😅
The last two Judas Priest albums have actually been quite amazing - as good as any of their classic stuff. And that's no bullshit. Spot on, there with the placement for Invincible Shield. I give credit to Richie Faulkner for coming in and really giving those guys a shot of adrenaline - his writing and playing are top-notch. And Priest sounds like themselves again.
Andy Sneap is the guy responsible for Priest Renaissance - this guy definitely know how to bring the best out of the band

Along with Priest, Uriah Heep has absolutely been knocking it out of the park recently too.Those two acts have daylight between them and any of their contemporaries who are still going.

To be fair, if they just renamed the band "Axl Rose & the Guns", Chinese Democracy was decent. It's got great power ballads, and any song Buckethead was on has great guitar sections.
i'd say Judas Priest somehow sounded more fresh than Mehtallica, considering that the former literally brought in the Godfather of Modern Metal himself, Andy Sneap.
The last two Priest records have been really good. But Rickie Falkner has brought a lot of new ideas and energy.
The new Judas Priest album was fucking amazing, didn’t expect it.
Something about a bunch of grandpas playing heavy metal (or punk for that matter) doesn't feel right. And how much can you squeeze out of a single genre? The peak of musical creativity for bands like Priest and Maiden was like 35 years ago, Painkiller and Seventh Son.

@@MofosOfMetal I think power metalers should start clinging onto albums like Painkiller as being power metal classics as their view of over the top choruses wears thin after hearing Dream Theatres one good album and that one Italian bands good album
@@queensofthedthrone8267 Painkiller is definitely a borderline Power Metal album and the genre is very diverse.
There's a lot of great bands that exist in the middle-ground between "Classic/Trad Metal" and full-blown "Power Metal".
The band Primal Fear debuted in 1997 - they essentially based their sound off Painkiller and they were marketed as a Power Metal band.

I think 72 seasons and Death Magnetic are on the same level, theyre both pretty good albums.

Having been nick-named "Evil Elvis" for years.
Then he got really serious about it, recorded like 20 songs as Elvis, and got in a fight with his fanbase about which ones he should release, and put that out.

Green day is amazing i know theyve had ups and downs but please respect them they are the band that made me get into song writing But blink also did get me into it but green day was first

I saw the Offspring last year and it was definitely a lot of fun. With that said, they played that song and it felt like the entire crowd was just 😐 and was already ready for the next song 🥴
As a fan of both, I laughed out loud at his comparison of the Offspring and Weird Al and not as a good way. But yea I can move on from this song

Nofx and acdc are bands that always sounded like themselves, which helped them preventing putting out stinkers

Judas Priest's key move was adding Andy Sneap, one of the top metal producers, as touring guitarist when Glenn Tipton got too old to tour. I've loved them since 1977 and even I'm shocked at how good they are now, as good as they've been in 30 years.
Glenn didn’t get too old to tour, he has Parkinson’s which sadly prevents him from playing much of their stuff. He’s still involved in the band
I personally liked the new Pearl Jam album. It’s definitely not their best but it’s still good.
He listened to arguably the weakest song on the album. The entire rest of the album slaps.

UNO is genuinely good. The trilogy falters with DOS and TRE. It's not bad as a whole.

Chinese Democracy apologist in here. Could be trimmed to 9 tracks without issue. If you like guitar solos and have the bitrate and speakers to match up to the studio fetishism then there's fun to be had.
That Dream Canteen album I thought was musically decently fully marred by Anthony Kaedis singing and lyrics.

I remember Dexter Holland from the Offsping saying in interview that they had to be talked out of naming one of their albums Chinese Democracy, they wanted to do it just to piss Axl Rose off.

You forgot that Green Day released revolution radio ( which was a solid album) before father of all.
Chinese Democracy is an Axl Rose solo album. Izzy Stratland was the main songwriter and arranger for Guns. Even though Slash and Duff have had some great music with their projects, it's still not Guns. Even with Duff and Slash playing on the CD outtakes, it's not Guns. The last original music we got (and probably ever will get) from GnR are the Illusions records.

The best thing about The Offspring’s record is that Todd Morse from H2O plays bass full time since this record, and is probably making good money for an old NYHC guy.
The Danzig record is great…if you’ve never heard Elvis sing Elvis songs, or the millions of other people who have also done Elvis songs.

Also, I usually stand by even my past music choices, but Finn bringing up Methods of Mayhem is one of the rare instances I can think of looking back and I wonder what I was on at the time. I'm ashamed to admit I bought and listened to that MoM record for a hot minute. Father forgive me.

I feel like the offspring unfairly catches a lot of shit for their more light-hearted almost like meme singles (pretty fly for a white guy, original prankster, why don't you get a job, etc) I still over 25 years later will catch myself humming the vocal melody to "the kids aren't alright" they're absolutely masters of writing catchy shit for their genre. That being said their newest album definitely wasn't my cup of tea but putting it next to Delvis and Chinese Democracy seems harsh lmao. to each their own. great vid finn.

Tesla into the now album in 2004 was such an amazing album for the time and especially for a legacy band. They made the music sound like it was supposed to sound in 2004.

Some I can think of are Dinosaur Jr, Mission of Burma, The Pop Group, The Clean, Failure, Shiner, Hum, Swervedriver, Jerome’s Dream, Daughters, and My Bloody Valentine.
Rob Halford looks like satanic Santa and I mean that as an absolute compliment. The past two Judas Priest albums are phenomenal. Rob still sounds like he’s in his 30s.
If they ever do a live action Rise of the Guardians I want Rob Halford cast as Santa now.
Green Day is known for having a lot of hit albums. Sometimes more than one per year. It’s just kinda what they do lol

God I love Judas Priest. I don’t listen to them much but I had a phase in middle school. Got to see them and thought they’d be washed up then because they were so old at that time. They still got it 10 years later! They’re the definition of LEGENDS 🤘🏼
Around the same time, we saw AC/DC, and it was comical in comparison.
I listened to a few songs from Chinese Democracy a few months and actually liked it. Does it sound like Appetite for Destruction? Certainly not, but i liked what i heard🤷🏼
To be fair i actually kinda like Danzig’s voice (while recognizing he sounds like he’s lacking technically) and the Elvis covers sounded good to me, so…

Nice video. Why don't you do a series on the pinnacle of metal -> Thrash metal from 83 till now and all the waves and the most important bands etc. A ton of cool stuff. Imo Thrash + Classic metal is the best metal that is non cringe, there are also new/modern thrash and classic metal bands that are great so its not stuck in the past. Its just something that works well.
One 🌟 for Fin for putting Invincible Shield at S. However ill still never forgive you for slandering Euro metal and lumping Polaris in with Wage War. Clearly Polaris are the better band. Used to be...was briefly into The Offspring until I moved onto better things. Can't believe that I ever listened to Pretty Fly For A White Guy. The Noose might be one of their better ones along with the early TSOL influenced stuff like Beheaded. Beheaded is a decent horror punk song.
I just got my hands on the first NOFX EP, the one that says “all drums recorded by our old drummer Eric standen.” my buddy buys surfboard from smelly and I’m going to see if he’ll sign it next time my buddy goes to pick up a new surfboard.
Speaking of Weird Al and the offspring, I only knew Pretty Fly for a Rabbi by Weird Al, and the first time I heard the real song I was amazed at how much it still sounded like Weird Al.
My mom thought Offspring AND NOFX were both Weird Al a few times in my youth

Dookie was one of my favorite albums of the 90's. Not only was it perfect from front to back, but it kicked the door to the world of punk open to me, (along with Rancid). The next thing I knew I was listening to Op Ivy and skate punk like NOFX, Pennywise and Bad Religion, and that got me into Sex Pistols, Ramones, Minor Threat, Black Flag, etc. Green Day was instrumental the punk revival of the 90's as Nirvana was for making Alternative Music mainstream.
Amen, and then they had to make music past the 2010s...oof. nothing ruins a punk band like becoming the establishment
Dookie rocks. Tre Cool was a monster on that album. But it seems like his drumming became a little too subdued post-Dookie, and their music suffered as a result. (I get the feeling Billy Joe told Tre Cool to "tone it down a bit").

I’m old now and so obviously my favorite bands are all legacy bands at this point, and as much as I love the Smashing Pumpkins, they’ve put out several mid to bad albums in a row and it makes me sad. Oceania was great but nothing past that has been good.

For context. I saw the offspring a few months ago. They did play a single song from the new album other than gone away which was a piano cover of an older song
Offspring "Ixnay on the Hombre" was the latest I could take a bit seriously. Within that window of skate-punk, that album was good. After that I'm with Finn, they went Wierd Al.
Americana had some tunes but Ixnay and Smash are peak everything else gets progressively worse. Ixnay and Smash are so good though. So good.
S - Judas Priest (Absolutely amazing album. I don't know how they do it.)
B - Metallica (Its okay but kinda long like alot of their albums. It has some good moments.)
C - Cannibal Corpse (okay album but nothing original. Problem is alot of their albums sound alike due to their technical style.)
C - AC/DC (awesome band but everything sounds the same)
D - Red Hot Chilli Peppers (yeah not my thing really. They've been kinda up and down over the years. I like some albums)
D - GnR (Its just a solo album for Axl at this point. I don't really have interest in hearing all of it. Too experimental and modern)
D - Pearl Jam ( i think they kinda dropped after the first album. The 2nd album okay but this new stuff not my thing)
D - Danzig (Yikes this sounds pretty bad it makes me sad because i like Danzig. Production on later stuff after D4 has been poor)
D - Slipknot (not my thing. I liked their first album but after that they kinda suck lol)
Hot Garbage - Green Day, NOFX, The Offspring (they sucked then and they suck now. I don't know how people could like this.)

@@mike04574 Because Green Day is pop punk and not very good at it. Cannibal Corpse are way more interesting even this late in their years. Danzig's worst album is easily better than Green Day's best.
I was genuinely surprised that Finn didn't see Saviors as the shit tier album it was, while also acknowledging that it is the best thing they've done since American Idiot
