My dad's goulash was ground beef, lots of green peppers and onions, kidney beans, diced tomatoes and a big ole slab of velveeta. He called it The Stuff. After he passed, I recreated it for my mom. It tasted just like his. She cried the whole time eating it. 😍
So sweet 😢
My aunts was cabbage lots of onion mushroom a little tomato and lima beans with lots of paprika. That's the typical Hungarian recipe..oh and a cheese that's native to Russia, but I don't remember what it's called... Putinedder maybe?
@@marystrope1345 very funny served with goolage wine just for you buddy
This is why they invented hamberger helper. But homemade is so much better. Looks delicious but I would substitute ground turkey because I am no longer eating beef.
@@marystrope1345 That is absolutely not the typical Hungarian goulash recipe.
My mom could feed an army with a pound of hamburger! 7 kids and 2 adults. That lady could stretch meat like no one's business we were kind of poor, but we never knew it as kids. She was a fabulous cook.
Who's mom wasn't? I long for those days and meals.. just thinking about them makes my mouth water.. they weren't conventional meals like we would eat today, I've tried recreating some of those recipes 😕
That brings back memories. My mom didn't care about cooking. When I joined the Marines I thought mess hall food was really good. LOL
You were richer than most! Your mother gave you great memories!❤

Oh my, I have never been able to make meat loaf or yeast rolls like my Mom….
When our mom was in the hospital, our dad made "goulash." The next night, goulash; we said dad, we had goulash last night; he said it was Polish goulash; the next night, American goulash, then Lithuanian, then Swedish, and so on; we thought our dad was the bomb! Such great memories.
You had a good Dad!
My Dad also had a great sense of humor..only thing my Dad made delicious was Beef vegetable soup...But also put pasta noodles in, without cooking them separately..I don't like the taste of pasta (water) taste. That's me !
Love your dad! That's a hoot!
Lol kool Dad 🤣🤣
That's funny!
Going through my divorce I was barely keeping it together. I made this one night and my kids LOVED it!!!! They always asked for it every time we were together. It became a household staple. Now 6 years later we’re still loving it!!! Mine is just boiled elbow with a couple cans of store pasta sauce and a pound of ground beef.
This is what I do but I also add fried onions
I love how frugal you make your using pasta sauce instead of tomato sauce I'll have to try that on broke budget week.
Garlic, onion, green pepper and tomato its all my mother ever needed every time she cooked, so do I! Nothing better than a fresh cooked meal!
Sounds great!
Rosa your mothers ingredients will make anything taste good. Love it.
Ikr!! 🙏🏽💕
We love goulash. I always use stewed tomatoes and keep a glass of tomato juice beside the pot to keep the juices flowing. I add a pat of butter before serving, usually put cheese on it and have with garlic toast. I've never tried with corn. Looks delish!
I made this last weekend. It ended up a little different than I usually make it though. I forgot to grab a green pepper when I did my shopping, but I did have a box of baby bellas, so I used them instead, chopped up fine. I also add a sweet onion minced fine which I caramelize with the mushrooms in real butter, before the beef goes in, carmelizing the onion adds a extra depth of flavor. I've tried both ways and that extra browning on the onion does make a difference. I also use a small can of tomato paste and beef better than bullion. The paste & bullion both get stirred into the beef and veg and cooked till the flavors meld together. I also use a can of diced tomatoes and a can of plain tomato sauce and about 4 cups or so of water to cook the macaroni. Last ingredient was a little block of Kerrygold sharp cheddar stirred in. A little garlic salt and a lot of fresh ground black pepper. I'm a family of one so I give away most of what I cook. My son-in-law texted me after he ate his and said "it was ballin beefaroni", 🤣 kids. I took some for my nurse at my hemodialysis unit and she liked it well enough to be sneaking back to their lunch room all morning and eat bites of it cold😮. My sister, who never tried mushrooms, claims she hates them said, "it had a really good flavor". Lol. All I said was "thank-you". No way will I ever tell her she ate mushrooms🤣. Unless of course she outright asks if I added them. Then I'd have to tell her the truth.
One thing I learned early on when raising kids is if you mince fine or even puree the veg they claim they hate... they'll eat anything. If they can't see it, they'll eat it without complaint. Outta sight, outta mind. And they get their vegtables.
I'm ok with mushroom flavor but sometimes, the texture weirds me out. I can understand why she'd be ok with them minced. I know they are good for you so I may try doing this the next time I make my American Goulash. I wish I could do this as a way to learn to like cheese but I just can't seem to get past the smell.😞
I remember my grandmother making this but she didn't use nearly as many ingredients. If I recall correctly, she told me it was a dish made in many households during the great depression because it was fairly cheap to make. And being from the country, the onions, peppers, tomatoes (fresh or home canned) usually came from the family garden making the cost even lower.
What a beautiful picture of how much simpler life used to be...even in a very trying experience like the Great Depression.
And that may be why I love it so much…my father had vivid recollections of that horrible time.
You are right on, my dear! Both of my grandmothers made goulash using kitchen gardens right out their back doors. Kitchen gardens are a smaller version of a person’s big garden accessible right out the back door…lol! Tomato’s, green peppers, cabbage, onions, potatoes, etc. My mother’s mom put me outside on morning with a salt shaker and I ate ripe tomatoes right off the vine! There was a pump handle well right at the beginning of the rows of vegetables in the garden. All I had to do was grab the handle and pump to get water to wash my ripe, juicy tomato off before biting into it! By the time I went back in the house I had juice running down my face, my shirt and my legs with tomato juice! Mmmm, they those tomatoes were good! My mom’s goulash must have had more tomatoes or maybe use tomato paste than this recipe because the juice was thicker and redder than this one??? Any one way, both were DELICIOUS and served with hot, homemade bread….yes!
Yes my Mom used to make this because we liked it! I still make it today, and my family love it. We never added peppers, or cheese. Just onion, beef, macaroni and tomato juice, it's plain but filling, and eaten with cornbread, YUMMY!!!
@@beckyshock3099 I just d t made some today. I use tomato juice and canned tomatoes. Onion an green pepper. Don't remember it growing up. Discovered it when I moved to Ohio and my friend told me. I love it. I don't add my macaroni either. Keep them separate. Today I added some tomato sauce and found out it good. Mine is more soupy than hers.
Love your channel. I use Worcestershire sauce in cooking a LOT. My Dad was from Peterborough, England. The British pronunciation is wooster shear. I always cook my pasta separately. My French chef Mom said the starch from the pasta alters the taste of the dish you are making. Also: if you have leftovers? The pasta will get like glue. Just separate the pasta in another bowl and refrigerate it after it cools. When your ready for leftovers? Heat up the mixture then add the macaroni. Lot less starchy and the pasta doesn’t get mushy from being overcooked. My mom? DARN her! Was RIGHT! Miss you Mom and Dad…xxoo
Your note was posted a long time ago, but I'm going to use this recipe again, and read through it just to be sure I have all the ingredients in mind. Then I read comments. I do the same, cooking the macaroni separately, for the same reasons. I can make double the recipe of the sauce and meat, and freeze half, then I don't have weird macaroni in the frozen portion. I cook fresh noodles when I'm serving the second half, later on. I agree... it's much better, for me, that way. Just thought I'd tell you.. you never know when your words will be read. :)

Hello Dale,I am From Norwich England,I Have Been to Peterborough Beautiful City !!!
Did you leave out the worstershire sauce on purpose ?
In New England, we call Worcestershire sauce Wistasheer.
My Dad raised us 3 kids all by his self and this was one of his "go- to" dishes besides Beef stroganoff.😋 He used pretty much the same ingredients but for us kids he added more burger & some celery but often omitted the peppers. I'm gonna have to make this dish again. It's been decades since it's seen the light of day..thanks for the nostalgia!!
No him
Oh my gosh, I am so glad I found this!! My husband loves this dish. My mom use to make it for him about once a month, but I never learned how to make it, and I lost my mom a couple of years ago. This looks exactly like the kind she made. I'm going to make it for my husband this week. He'll be so surprised. Thank you so much for posting this recipe!!
You're so welcome.
I agree but I love
sour cream & green onion I would use that to top instead of parsley as a substitute don't care for parsley on food
This was known in new england as American chop suey. Courtesy of the public school cafeterias..loved it then - love it now & I'm 70 ! Still make it every 2 weeks or so.
Used to get it all the time in CT schools that I went to.
J
I am also from New England and my mom made American Chop Suey once a week. She used stewed tomatoes instead of tomato soup and didn't add corn. We absolutely loved it! I I always made it for my family and to this day I still cook it for my husband and I.
It has always been called goulash
I’m from Massachusetts. In New England, we call this American Chop Suey. My grandmother made it for us often; you could feed an entire family a good, hearty meal without breaking the bank.
American chop is the best, however no corn thanks!!
My mom is from Maine, that’s what she called it!
my mother in law use to call this the same thing American chop suey with spaghetti
I moved up there from pittsburgh back in the 80's and never heard it called American chop suey till then. I had it there the first time at a deli that was located under the "T" in Lynn. Can't remember the street name, but i used to work at Sir Speedy at the other end of the block.I grew up just calling it stuff. My mom just put onion, ground meat, elbow macaroni and canned diced tomatoes.
@@dm8553 Ah, yes, Central Square. I believe that was Union St., really sketchy area, probably still is. I briefly lived off Union while in college.
Was that the Capitol Diner, by any chance?
I wanted to report back and tell you that we made this for Mother's Day! And it was ABSOLUTELY DELICIOUS!!!! It is an easy yet satisfying meal. We doubled the recipe and it fed so many people! Huge hit!!! Thank you for posting such fantastic recipes! 💛
So happy y'all enjoyed.
I will definitely be making your recipe ! I do have an easy recipe that I've been using, found it on a can of Del Monte Traditional Spaghetti Sauce: 1 lb hamburger, 1 c. chopped onion, 1 15 oz can Spaghetti Sauce (listed above), 1 c. dry elbow macaroni, 1 c. shredded Cheddar Cheese. (5 ingre.) Prepare: Brown meat & onion in skillet (med. high heat). Drain, season with Salt & Pepper. Add spag. sauce and 1 c. water, bring to boil. Stir in macaroni. Cover, simmer 8-10 min. till pasta is done. Stir in cheese & garnish with sliced green onions. Prep: 5 min., Cook: 15 min. Serves 4 (for small families or kids are grown & gone). Can add grn. bell pepper too. It is really good too ! WE ALL LOVE YOUR RECIPES !!
Thanks for sharing.
Hamburger, onion, diced or crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, cooked elbow macaroni. My mother added kidney beans (I always picked them out). Nowadays I add chopped black olives. Add garlic powder and/or cheese to taste. The best thing about goulash is that it tastes just as good as leftovers!
Very true, it taste as good on day three as on day 1
@CJ Wilemon You sound like a small child commenting in an ugly way just to stir things up. Hopefully when you become an adult you will gain the wisdom to appreciate all the different tastes people acquire.
my step mom put kidney beans in hers too,
Never tried kidney beans in it..I'll remember that next time
Absolutely! It actually tastes better on day 2 and 3! 😀
My mom would make this all the time for us as a kid. My mom would use elbow macaroni, olives, canned corn, ground beef, canned tomato sauce, onion, garlic and spices.
I grew up eating goulash. My Mother and my Grandmother would make it often and us kids loved it. It was one of those dishes that was even better as leftovers. Ours had macaroni, ground beef, onion, green pepper and tomatoes. Also seasoning. Never had it with cheese but that's something I definitely want to try. Thanks for the great recipe and video. 🙂
My mom would add large red kidney beans to her goulash and that’s the way I had it my whole life. We always had a side of canned green beans when she made it also.
My mom made a similar recipe that she called American chop suey..our family and all the relatives, cousins, aunts and uncles loved it..definitely a depression era meal..you brought back some fond memories ❤
I love American Goulash, my Grandmother made it alot on weekends when I was a kid when all of us grandkids were over.
I put onions and one pound of ground beef and tomato juice. And boil macaroni for 4 minutes, put macaroni in the pan and let the macaroni cook the rest of the way. My Mom used to make it that way.
I'm from the Netherlands, and I've never before heard a dish like this called "goulash". We would just call it "macaroni". Goulash to us (in Europe) is NOT with macaroni, but it's a beef dish that has to simmer for hours, and you eat it with rice, potatoes or bread etc.
This looks and sounds yummy though! :)
Edit: Guess what I'm eating tonight? :D
Well, that's why it's called American Goulash, I hope you enjoy.
I love my mom's goulash. She was born in 1917 and learned to cook in school. Her recipe was kind of like yours. Not Hungarian. Just country. And she never measured. She served with homemade biscuits.
We've never put corn in it and we put the cheese and sour cream on the table for each person to add to their dish if they want it.
One of my go to dishes and I like it even better as a leftover. The flavors go into the pasta overnight. I use a can of Rotel diced tomatoes with green chilies and a half cup of diced onion instead of powder.
Love goulash. I have always made my grandma's/mom's but yrs ago I changed it up and I now add Frido-Lays jalapeno cheese dip. Gives it a little kick with a little sweetness with the brown sugar. Hamburger, chopped onions, elbow macaroni, peeled whole tomatoes (cut up) tomato sauce, salt, pepper and brown sugar. Last 15 minutes, I add the jalapeno cheese. Homemade bread/rolls. Yummy.
Its a personal choice what people like to eat. Its NEVER wrong, its your taste.
I just don't like when people say it's original and its not. Fusion cooking has been around for a long time and its great.
My American goulash is a bit different. I use:
Red bell pepper
Onion
Ground beef
Garlic
Oregano
Beef stock
Diced tomatoes
Some tomato paste from a tube.
1 tsp of sugar. If I have canned tomatoes from my garden I omit the sugar
Red pepper flakes (opt.)
Soy sauce. That shocked me but its magic.
Of course pasta.
Cheese is added at the dining table and it your choice. Salad and Texas toast on the side.
Your looks very good but different.
I love how many was there are to create the same dish. Take care💜X
Yes, that's what I like make it yours.
It sounds delicious, but it is NOT Goulash.
Daddy made this all the time 60 years ago. I waited until he couldn't remember what was his recipe. This brings back memories. Guess that's one reason I love watching you & enjoy the family too. Thank you
Our pleasure!
I made your goulash recipe for supper. I had company and everyone loved it. Thanks for sharing these recipes. I liked that I didn't have to cook the macaroni separately. Just put it in with the other ingredients. That made the prep very easy.
Awesome! I'm glad you liked it.
I love leftovers, so I would add the whole box of pasta, and 4 cups of broth
I'm all about the leftovers to ... 😋 Yummy
I love leftovers too.. many are even better the next day.. I’ve never tried it with corn before.. I’ll have to give it a try..
Celery
Me too..
It's better the next day
Here in Ohio , the Marzetti Restaurant invented a dish for their children’s menu called “ Johnny Marzetti “ . A goulash of flat egg noodles, hamburger, onions and tomato sauce cooked on stovetop then sprinkled with Parmesan Cheese and baked. Delicious and a stand by to every school cafeteria!
Thank you for this! I’ve looked everywhere for a goulash recipe like my mother’s and this is as close as I’ll ever get I think! Delicious!
Wonderful!
I think everyone grew up on good ol' goulash!
Have a Blessed day!
I grew up eating this my grandma and mom cooked this for us a lot and i loved it with a big slice of cornbread
CORNBREAD "YEP" I'm In.
Never had it growing up, and as I couldn't cook when I got married (military wife) a friend taught me how to make it but with rice, not elbows - I make it once and awhile - it's just me now
I love this recipe! When I was a young woman, my best friend made goulash just like this! I have lost track of my friend but I will never forget that goulash!
I just recently came across your recipes. After viewing a bunch of other recipes for American Goulash, yours was the one I have been looking for. Thank you for bringing back an old childhood favorite!
I have a big bowl of that in my fridge right now that I will break down to individual freezer bowls. I make it differently though. There has to be hundreds of versions of American Goulash. We love it.
I am from Florida and I call that Beefaroni. The goulash we make is stewed beef with onions and bacon with lots of delicious beef gravy that has a hint of smok from the bacon a hint of mustard and dill and it’s served over diced boiled potatoes. It is very similar to Rouladen.
Hi Catherine. I love goulash, and grew up eating it as a kid. My mom made it a little while back, but she didn't put corn or bell peppers in it. We normally don't do green bell peppers or cellery in our food because they always overpower the taste of everything else in the dish.
My family's version is more tomatoes, no corn, and cheese is added after plated. I'm definitely giving this version a try! Thank you for sharing. Probably going to try all versions shared in comments too. I love goulash!😋
Wonderful!
I'm in a living situation at the moment that I have no control what meals are made or served. I am moving soon and I am looking forward to making my mom's goulash. It's a little different than yours but it's goulash it's a comfort food and I love it. You've given me some ideas that I'm probably going to add to my goulash just for the flavor of it. Thank you for reminding me of this wonderful dish.
You are so welcome.
I don't use corn or beef broth. I cook my onion, green pepper and hamburger, i boil my macaroni separately then add hamburger mixture with only tomato paste. SO YUMMY!!!
,
Lazy goulash:
1 lb ground beef
1 lb elbow noodles
2 cans tomato soup
1 jar heinz chili sauce
replace 1 of the tomato soups for 1 can of spicy V8
Thanks for this
My Mom used canned tomatoes that she put in the blender a little. My MIL used tomato soup.
I made this for the first time yesterday. It is so good and easy to make. leftovers are usually 10x better so I can't wait to warm it up for another meal!
Delicious flavors in a delightful dish! Comforting and easy to make. 👍😋
This is everything I love 💕 yummmmy. 😋
Thank you so much 😊
I'm from New Mexico and I would have to add Hatch green chillies , love the spicy.
My Busia (Polish for Gramma) made this a lot. No green peppers or corn. Slices of American cheese on top while in the oven. Your recipes are so good. Thanks
Thank you.
Thanks for sharing Catherine! I tried your recipe tonight but substituted ground beef with ground elk that I harvested last season. It turned out great! The flavor was amazing.
My husband said he bet it was awesome with Elk.
My version of goulash is yours now. Thanks for sharing. My grandkids are going to love this. Have a great day.
Thank you! You too!

I grew up on goulash too. My mama would send us kids to the garden to gather veggies. Whatever we got, she put it in. I still make it today.🥀
How sweet, Moms are the best!
I usually boil the noodles first but it is soooooo good when the noodles cook in the sauce new stuff for me I did it with the spaghetti taco so good it looks good I'm making this ♥️
Now you need to add a can of black beans and a double recipe of corn bread, and you'll be SET!
My kids are nearly into their fifties and being a single mom and the recipe is quick and easy. And easy on the budget. We loved it. Thanks for bringing back an good memory.
Gotta have the cornbread, oh yeah!
My goulash starts exactly the same as yours. Sauté the green pepper and onion with some salt and pepper, and then add in the ground beef. Meanwhile, I have the elbow macaroni (one small box) started in another pan. Once the ground beef and macaroni are cooked, I combine them and two cans of tomato bisque soup in a large bowl. Done!
As a kid I had that without the corn we would bake it in the oven with cheese on top and inn it.?
Thanks for posting! That sounds like a great way to cook this dish!!😊
We use nearly the same ingredients, but we added Pinto beans from a can and about 1.5 Tablespoons Chili Powder. One thing we do different is we add Parmasean on top when we serve it. I like the parmasean better. This dish is better the next day!
Yes, this dish is better the next day.
This is definitely going into our rotation. When I was a little girl we had this at least once a week and leftovers were lunch. So delicious! I can’t wait to make it.
I make my goulash exactly like you do but I cook pasta separate then add to meat mixture don't add cheese. We love it. Your right it's delicious. Have a blessed day, stay safe and healthy. 🙏😊🙏😊🙏😊🙏😊🥰😊🙏❤🙏❤🙏
Thank you for watching.
Yes, this is pretty much what we grew up eating. Of course mom would add as many vegetables as she could and often having a garden, we would have a lot of them. Okra is another vegetable that's good in a dish like this. But I don't remember ever having cheese on top. 🤔 And I'm not sure why. Everything is better with cheese!
Thanks for sharing another yummy recipe. 😋
So true! Cheese makes it better.
Yum, okra!
The okra is everything. I didn't like it as a child but I grew up and yummy. Add cornbread. My Grandma did. And My Goodness that was a meal. I'm making this on Sunday.... No cheese tho.
Iam Hungarian and this is how American goulash pretty much is made. We always put kidney beans, dark or light, if chopping peppers, onions chop fresh garlic ,your there might as well! Never had corn in it.. whatever someone 👍 course always paprika the good stuff 😋 other than that pretty much same ! I like tomatoes sauce rather than soup. I know you're hubby doesn't like to much acid from tomato sauce. A little sugar will help !
This is how we had it. Great memories.
Yep. Mom and Dad grew up during the depression.
Goulash was on the table when I grew up in the 50s and 60s. I dont know what all mom used, but it was good!
I made this recipie last night and as usual, all of your recipies never dissapoint! I used the soup instead of sauce and I believe that the worsterchire made this dish really pop! Best goulash I have ever eaten!!! Between all the recipies I have made from Christmas to now have all been fabulous! You are making me look so good in the kitchen!!! God Bless!
Looks awesome similar to what we had when I was a kid and that I used to cook for my kids
The only real difference with my goulash is i don't use the Worcestershire and i use a little sugar to cut through the tanginess of the tomatoes.
I also use fresh garlic at the start and only a little garlic powder on the back end if the sauce needs more garlic.
When serving i usually use fresh grated cheese and parsley flakes as well to add a layer of color and flavor to the plate for presentation. I don't fully stir the cheese in while cooking but fold it in and leave some of the cheese to melt before serving.
Goes great paired with 1/4rd garlic bread or Parmesan toasted texas toast type bread.
It sounds complicated but it's actually very simple and easy to execute perfectly everytime i make it.
My mom put thick slices of Velveeta cheese on top, put the lid on for a few minutes till the cheese melted, then stirred it. Ready to eat! Yummy 😊. She didn’t always call it goulash; sometimes she referred to it as “slumgullion”-don’t know why. I made it for my kids, too. They also loved it. You brought back a warm memory for me, Catherine. Thanks! 😍😍
thank you for this!!! i've never had a great, easy goulash! a childhood fav
Years ago my son said he wanted spaghettiOs with meatballs like the neighbor kid gets. I made American goulash that day and told my son how much better it is. He wouldn’t touch it seeing the peppers and onions. Later on the neighbor boy came over and hovered over the pot saying how delicious goulash is. He said it was his most favorite and wished he didn’t have to eat the canned stuff. As little Bobby was leaving I paid him the 5 dollars I promised him for saying how great the dish was!!! 😂 My son finally tried it and has loved it ever sense.
LOL!
I didn’t have any kind of goulash until I was an adult. My Italian mom would just make spaghetti. I love both. ❤️
I've been looking for a familiar goulash recipe. This seems to be the same recipe my momma used.
It's making me hungry just watching it cook.
Thanks for the recipe!!
An American classic. American Goulash or Johnny Marzetti, Macaroni and Beef, etc. Hundreds of variations. I use red bell peppers or Fresno peppers and add Paprika and Cumin, no corn but that's just me. Love it any way it's made, "one dish meal" is what my aunt from Ohio called it probably not wanting to explain.
I’m going to make this and try freeze drying it! What a fantastic comfort food that you can fix quickly in any portion size you chose. Just add boiling water.
Catherine, nice job, great quick and easy, Looks delicious a must try!!
Great 1 pot meals.
Love the cabbage roll casserole. Thank you for quick easy delicious recipes.
You are so welcome!
Mom always put ranch style beans in the ghoulash. My favorite childhood meal.
It's been decades since I've made it and probably just followed my mom's recipe, which most likely came from Betty Crocker! I don't recall using corn or cheese.

I made this tonight for dinner with home made biscuits! Yummy!
My husband loves the one pot taco spagetti. I really like it too.
Except for the corn, which I don't put in, this is exactly how I've been making this household favorite for years. Simply delicious and comforting. Maybe I'll try it with corn next time! Keep 'em coming Catherine.
Got this for lunch in elementary school. Smelled so good with their rolls! I'm gonna make this tomorrow!
This looks good and easy to make. Thank you, Catherine!
It really is!
I wish you'd list the recipe ingredients in the description box. It would make it much easier when it comes time to make your delicious creations ;)
I have a blog that I put all my recipes on and they are printable.

Why wouldn't you boil the noodles?
@@shirleybush9579 The noodles flavor is enhanced, cooked in the tomato sauce.
@@CatherinesPlates dont like looking all over for info. Better to have it in one place.

Thank you for the wonderful demonstration and printed recipe. I am very excited to make this dish!
I love all your recipes Catherine. However, this time you had me hook line and sinker when you said you put bell peppers in everything and onions in everything. I do too! Onions and bell peppers make everything better. Thank you for another great recipe 👍!
So true! We love onions and peppers in almost anything.
I too LOVE bell peppers and onions in practically everything! Lov'em!😋😋 Oh my sister puts corn in her goulash also Catherine.♥️

WOW THAT LOOKS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I absolutely love this stuff so easy and u have left over .
I’m from Maine. We call it American Chop Suey. It is a staple dish at diners and for school lunches. I always browned two pounds of beef with chopped peppers ( I like sweet red bells), onions, and a clove of garlic. Season with salt and pepper or instead of salt, add a glob of beef Better Than Bouillon. Also a shot of cayenne but that’s not traditional. Then a large family size can of tomato soup and one can of fire roasted tomatoes. Simmer this a while. Meanwhile boil up the pasta separately. I don’t cook it in the same pot with the sauce because it gets too mushy. I like to use medium shells. Elbows are traditional. I boil up the whole 16 ounces. Then I mix the sauce into the al dented cooked pasta, drained, and add about 8 ounces shredded cheddar.
my Mom had one she got from a older lady in town, that ran the high school cafeteria in my Moms day, (1940) it had more cheese and 2 cans mushrooms 1 can of olives. also the meat was a mix ground pork and beef, recommended butterfly macaroni. It wasn't a one pot and you baked it in the oven for a hour at 325
Sounds yummy.
We always made it with green lima beans instead of corn. Looks delicious! Thank you!!
My mom called her version "beefaroni". She used Campbell's tomato soup for her sauce base with an onion. Nothing fancy. Today I use garlic and peppers.
Mom passed a couple of years ago but we will always have these wonderful memories.
Love you mom!
Yes, you will always have those memories, just hold on to them.
