    I don’t think people realise just how rich in lore the doctor Who universe is. I love videos like this with really obscure lore

    • @eschelar
      @eschelar 3 года назад +28

      It is rich in lore and it would be pretty awesome, except for the fact that the execution is so terrible. So many ridiculous plots to destroy the universe, with basically no grasp on the sheer size of the universe or just the basic fact that the daleks are barely equipped to travel across a moderately tidy living room, much less deadly dangerous supervillains.
      I mean the first iteration is literally rendered totally useless unless they remain connected to the power source in the floors...
      Absolute garbage. Made garbage by the writers.
      The first rule of fiction is a suspension of disbelief. The daleks can be defeated by moving around at a speed faster than a slow ambling shuffle. I've seen 3 year olds that are more terrifying and dangerous.

      @@eschelar and that is kinda the charm of the show. These ridiculous monsters which in real life would barely be a proper threat. Now i imagine a city having a primary defense of stairs around the perimeter and different parts of the city so the daleks can't invade, or if they do they would get stuck

    • @chriskraucunas8720
      @chriskraucunas8720 3 года назад +22

      @@eschelar you could also safely touch the Dalek casings at that point. By the time of "Dalek" in the 9th Doctor, the casing could be deadly to the touch, could absorb genetic material, and the Daleks had developed levitation and flight.

      @@nightowl8477 To be honest mate I've had my own thoughts of the Paradigm Daleks which would go like this.
      At the end of Victory of the Daleks all 5 of the Paradigm shoot into different parts of the universe to rebuild the fear. Here is the breif of which Daleks would be encountered by the Doctor first and their motive for being in the episode.
      Drone: First up the Drone dalek is pursuing a military planet to take the strongest warriors to obey the Dalek empire, once they are of no use they will be exterminated.
      Scientist: The Scientists transported itself to a high weapons advanced planet where it is experimenting on designing a weapon that disables a timelords regeneration in a single beam.
      Strategiest: This one is a challenge to defeat as it is constantly twisting the Doctor's plans to destroy it, constantly letting the Doctor believe he has the upper hand but in second subverts his expectations.
      Eternal: The Eternal is beyond destruction, it is designing an ability for Daleks to regenerate or even have armor stronger than any in the universe the only way to neutralise this Dalek is to leave it externally in pain.
      Supreme: Finally the supreme has been observing his team the whole time using emergency Temporal shift the Strategist, Drone and Scientists are back at the end of the episodes (2 parter) A Doctor Falls into a glow where change approaches...
      Really long hope you like the concept!

      How i hate these nausea-causing levels of Plot Holes and Nonsense.
      There is literally no 'normal' series of events how this Fix Point can/should happen.
      There is literaly no reason why the Doctor should let him self get shoot by the Astronaut.
      Also, putting much effort into creating survival-expert River Song and then putting her into an Astronaut Suit that negates all her abilitys is
      laughable and nonsensical. Stupid Silence.
      I like this Fix-Point Buisness, but it's virtually impossible to execute it worse than here. Wow, impressively bad writing.
      The Doctor has no reason to die but he for no reason wants to die. It's nonsensical.
      And the Silence is just incompetent as heck anyways. Well, everyone is.

    My favorite theory is that there is two timelines we see in Doctor Who. Before Genesis Davros died during the creation of the Daleks. The Daleks grow to be a strong force under their Emperor. They conquer Earth, they invade other planets. They become a force that could conquer the universe. One strong force under one leader. The Time Lords afraid of this send the 4th Doctor back to make changes in Genesis. He refuses to commit genocide so tries other changes. With the knowledge gained Davros survives and perhaps left a little bit in their programming that they need him. So they come back to get him when they lose.
    That is why after Genesis we see the Daleks weaker and a lot more infighting about their goals.
    The change from Genesis that changed the timeline is Davros surviving. He is actually the worst thing for them.

    Great video!
    When it comes to redesign Daleks, while the real world reason they were dropped was mainly due to fans not reacting well to the new designs, we never got an reason in the show for their disapperance. However, there is techinically a explanation for it in a unlikely place. According to a article from the Radio Times, at the Doctor Who Experience there was a Dalek ship you would enter, in which there was a exchange between the resdsign Daleks and a army bronze/classic Daleks who belong to Davros. The two sides were fighting over who are the true pure Daleks and given the fact we've not seen the redesigns for a long time now, it's clear that Darvos's army won and became the dominate faction. So once again splintering Dalek factions had led to another civil war, just a shame we didn't get to see it on screen as it would have been great to have a fall scale Dalek civil war with current effects.

    You know, I always imagined the Daleks as a genocidal species in a state of constant war.
    But they sue for peace, make use of slave labor, and 22:14 feels like legal extradition.
    They have a lot of trials for what I'd assume would be an ultra-authoritarian government,
    I'd assumed the Daleks declared the time war as soon as they had the technology to rival the Time lords, but 25:11 makes it seem like a defensive war.

  • @MrDarthT
    @MrDarthT 4 года назад +3

    My own head canon is that there are three species of Daleks. First, there are those that mutated from Mutos and rebuilt the Kaled city, which were the silver Daleks we saw in the 60s, and were eventually defeated during "Evil of the Daleks". Then there are the Daleks genetically engineered by Davros, that were trapped within the underground bunker beneath the Kaled City, and were the grey Daleks seen during the 70s and 80s. FInally, there are the converted Daleks, which began being produced by Davros on Necros, which eventually evolved into the Imperial Faction, lead by the Emperor Davros.
    During the Time War, remnants of all three factions wound up being forced to work together. In particular, following the Time War, the new Dalek Emperor attempted to rebuild the Dalek Empire using the conversion process created by Davros.

    Any one else notice his voice changes to that of an oldschool dalek at 31:41? When he says "Dalek Just" it sounds just like how a dalek would say it.
    I think someone is secretly a dalek

    Nice video :) I wasn’t aware of their complete history, and there were a few movies staring Peter Cushing that retold the events of some of the stories from the show, just slightly different.
    As for weather they’ll survive the xmas special, well, apparently, the guy who created the daleks for the bbc implemented a legal stipulation that they always had to be used through out the DW series: Meaning if they (the BBC) wanted to use them at all, they had to keep using them, or they’d lose the rights to do so.

    Please tell me I missed it and you actually DID mention what is possibly the greatest nuwho novel if not the best DW novel ever; "Prisoner of the Daleks"?! The Tenth Doctor is taken prisoner, as this book takes us on an unsettling and very adult journey through labor camps, child abuse, human rights not to mention the vicious torture of the Doctor just because the head Dalek (Dalek X) feels like doing so. Not a children's book; this is the first story that makes the Daleks look as terrifying as they were always meant to be.

    Stairs, curbs, high grass, uneven terrain, rock's 🪨 and pebbles are just a few of the Daleks weaknesses!

    • @BakaTaco
      @BakaTaco 3 года назад +2

      They can fly! They also have spaceships and tanks (I think?) and lots of weapons to blow up anything that is above them (meaning up a single stair, or standing on a rock, hahaha).
      But yeah, stairs are great ways to defend against Daleks, as I don't think they've always been able to fly, or at least fly without their platform things.

    After watching this video, I've got questions about the Asylum of the Daleks. Mainly, if there was a Dalek Prime Minister, was he voted in? Did he seize control? And... where is the parliament of the Daleks now? There looked like there were thousands of Daleks there. They can't all have been destroyed in the Time of the Doctor because they couldn't all fit in one saucer. And in series 9, there looked like there were only a hundred or so Daleks on Skaro.

    • @frenchguitarguy1091
      @frenchguitarguy1091 Год назад

      The parliament might be done in a mocking way perhaps, these are mecha alien fascists after all so a parliament would seem very odd. The real answer is moffats writing inconsistencies and shortcuts to 'cut to the chase' so to speak. I liked that the Russel T Davis era had a (mostly) continuous dalek plot running with the cult of skaro. It meant that you knew the threat level, or even better thought you knew the threat level only for it to be revealed as wayyyyy higher. Recent stories kinda just throw the daleks out with no connecting fibre.
