Honestly Jack's story is a classic Shakespearean tragedy, his immortality is not a gift, its a curse, everyone he gets close to dies or in the Doctor's case, regenerates. I would have liked to have seen the 11th and/or 12th Doctor interact with Captain Jack at some point but I'm guessing John Barrowman must have been busy filming other stuff during those years

The Face of Bo was suppose to be canon. Barrowman was supposed to appear in a Good Man Goes to War and was to lose his head to the headless monks. He would then live has a head only. The only reason this doesn't happen was because of scheduling conflicts. So I choice to see it as canon.

That is out of character, especially since the Doctor always defined himself in opposition to the Time Lord establishment for their elitist/prejudiced behaviour over this kind of thing. It's very weird, therefore, to see him behave exactly like the other Time Lords would. But then even good people have prejudices.

BUT the doctor knows exactly who Jack is and what happened and why ... which means he checked into Jacks life and found he had to leave him behind because he looked and saw him in other times after he left him behind ... just like when reading rivers diary the doctor had to break her wrist to release the cuffs ... because the companion read it ... he had to avoid a tsunami

people should just resolve the behind the camera beef with barrowman and keep bringing him back. maybe they could somehow find themselves at the end of the universe and bump into him floating in space, where the only thing he has left is his memory, and has been stuck out there, lost in his memories without even knowing how long it's been because time gave up on him as well. as tharries recently said, he was mishandled in revolution of the daleks, just a charicature of himself instead of having done something new so that we can catch up with him and learn some more about the huge gap between then and miracle day.

Jack is definitely the Face of boe that was the reveal at the end of the episode the writers even made a joke that Jack seems to still be able to age and he wondered what he might look like in a million years. it was clearly the writters intent that Jack and the Face were the same person, probably not since the beginning of the series but it does fit in very well with the first Season of New Who's habit of subtlety connecting the episodes together, and the 10th doctors era had the same production team and creative staff of the 9th doctors. so it makes sense as a planned 9th doctor season 2 reveal that got pushed back because they had to change doctors due to Christopher Eccleston's departure.

Then occasionally something will happen in a new episode that twangs a memory causing me to re-examine certain things or people. This is true of Captain Jack in the new season opener. I know an American version would most likely be terrible. What if it was "American" but completely done by the BBC so nothings different but the accents? Like a group of nerds hacked the line and found an ancient Alien device some where so they were able to stand toe to toe with the others? I wouldn't quite believe that if it were say people from the Congo or Somoa, but who knows? It all depends on the actors.

I have a theory that Captain Jack wasn’t actually immortal. Instead rose or the bad wolf made his death a fixed point in time billions of years in the future. As a result the universe wouldn’t let him die before that point, no matter how much his body aged, distorted or mutated. And his time was finally up at the end of the episode Gridlock, where he died for the last time.

I like ths theory I'm not sure exactly what year Parting of the Ways and Gridlock are set but agree they're probably close and if Parting of the Ways is before then the cat nurses were keeping him alive for that time and if it's after he sacrificed his remaining years to save everyone in Gridlock so it works either way!

    • @jacobharris5894
      @jacobharris5894 4 года назад +5

Sarah Glover I don’t think the timeline really matters at the end of the day because we have to remember that Captain Jack is capable of time travel, without the Tardis, since he was a time agent. Because Captain Jack traveled back to the 1800’s after the parting of ways it could be possible that gridlock happens before or after parting of ways. He would just have to take precautions not to run into a younger version of himself, if parting of ways is before gridlock. To answer your question though gridlock is long after parting of ways because parting of ways takes place 100 years after the Long Game, which takes place 200,000 years in the future. Gridlock takes place on New Earth after the sun vaporizes the Earth near the end of its life. So we can conclude that Gridlock takes place at least 5 billion years into the future. Which is insane because that would mean Captain Jack lives for over 5 billion years, assuming he doesn’t time travel into the future, after the events of Torchwood. And we thought the Doctor was old, lol.

Oicjre_Gaming No because time is non linear in Doctor Who, meaning that you can travel to the future but still be apart of a fixed event in the past. Like how the 11th doctors death was fixed in more or less modern day in Utah but he was still able to go on futuristic adventures in the Tardis before that. It’s a little convoluted and when you think about too much a bit non sensical but the past, present and future of a time traveler isn’t necessarily the same as it is for everyone else. In other words, wibbly wobbly timey wimy stuff.

@@mr.scarlo2234 Due to the 1 year skip in series 1 the timeline GOES MENTAL. Ok so hear me out.
      Series 1 2005-2006. This we know 100%
Series 2 starts with the christmas invasion at the end of 2006 and therefore the rest of series 2 in 2007.
This makes the runaway bride take place at chrismas 2007. So either after this the doctor went back in time slightly when looking into hope hospital or the more logical option is that series 3 actually takes place in 2008 just before series 4. This can easily make logical sense. The Master arrives 18 months before 2008 in 2006/2007. This is fine, he can be winning polls way before the election maybe to be the leader of his party. (He still needs to maintain his public image so just randomly becoming the leader is too suspicious). This means that The Doctor and Martha instead of travelling 1 year into the future at the end of Blink instead travelled 1 year into the past at the start.
Plus as more proof I may be wrong but I'm pretty sure Martha mentions the "christmas star" at some point which means if she knows about it and it happened in december 2007 she MUST be from 2008. Case closed.

@@Char10tti3 Steven Moffat is a person who used the time travel aspect of the show to its fullest extent. The episode where the Silence came up is the last time we see them.
The origins of the Silence are shown in the Time of the Doctor: they were originally some normal human church in the future ruled by Tasha Lem. Then the Doctor came to Trensalore, where the Time Lords were calling him through the crack, and declared he would stay there to protect the planet. Then Tasha Lem dedicated her church to the Silence, which meant that the Doctor would not tell his name to the Time Lords. During the centuries that followed, the Silence protected Trensalore together with the Doctor.
One of the church's branches, ruled by Madame Kovarian, decided it would be much more efficient to just find the Doctor in the past and kill him there. They started from blowing up his TARDIS... And the rest of the story you, as I believe, remember.

But who started calling the face the face of Boe, and not Boe? It doesn't talk with words, except once.
It also says something about telling the doctor on the third and final meeting. So unless hes trying to be aloof to prevent timy wimy stuff. Hes only met 3 times. Kinda weird that Jack Harkness future self would give birth to 7 children while being just a face.

Jack is just brilliant although in end of days he forgot the hand when he left so I guess he just ran then quickly came back before actually leaving

The face of boe was ment to be created during the episode with Matt Smith called "when a good man goes to war" where he was ment to get beheaded by the headless monks. But I heared the actor ether couldn't or refused (tbh idk which) to be in the episode. So the blue guy was the one who got beheaded.

Jack says that he came from the Boeshane Peninsula where he used to be a poster boy, on top of that everybody in the Time Agency must be aware of this ancient being called the Face of Boh, all of these together explain why he gets this nickname, this is the kind of joke that guys will make teasing one another (he was a poster boy, a model, and The Face of Boh is kind of ugly).
It might be a timey wimey thing if Jack really is The Face of Boh and he was named after himself, but I believe they're not the same person.

I'm pretty sure that there can be no other adventures besides the trip to Japan between 'Boom Town' and 'Bad Wolf', as the Ninth Doctor, after waking up in the Big Brother house in the 'Bad Wolf' episode, says something like "We had just left Cardiff with a quick stopover in Kyoto, Japan blah blah something something when my friends got taken by a transmat, and I woke up here..."
