Fun facts about Carnotaurus: they had flexible skulls, much like modern snakes. Good for swallowin' small prey/large chunks of meat whole. They were ambush hunters, and would charge at their prey with great speed (a hypothesized 30-35 mph). In other words, they were basically the modern day cheetah, with the body of a dinosaur and snake for a head.

Actually, Disney was gonna use T. Rex originally. But since the Lost World portrayed them rexes as more caring and maternal, Disney changed the therapod villain to Carnotaur, and did their own changes to make it look even scarier. In response to TLW.

    • @ajmentel2453
      @ajmentel2453 2 года назад +1

That's pretty much the thesis of the book, that when things they bad they tend to get worse rapidly until either the situation/system collapses or a new stability is reached (not without loss or consequence). I just finished re-reading it and the graphic configurations make it quite clear. As the story progresses, the comfigurations grow and begin to take a fractal shape - but as plot threads are set up, and details are solidified, the butterfly effect sweeps the events towards "the chaotic edge."
[Book spoilers] For example, the arrival of Dodgson & Co. on the island sets into motion a chain of events that leads to King being eaten by velociraptors that Dr. Levine & the kids were observing from the high hide. One of the raptors eats a candy bar that King was about to eat, and is noted as apparently enjoying it. Later, the raptors use the game trail and pass by the high hide unaware of its existence - until the last raptor sniffs around its base and finds a candy wrapper that Levine had dropped earlier. The butterfly effect in action - had King not brought that candy bar, or perhaps a different snack, not only would Eddie have survived, Arby wouldn't have been kidnapped by the raptors (stuck in a cage), and the raptor chase sequences and attack on the village wouldn't have happened. Not that it would've been a good time anyway, considering the Rexes would have still destroyed the trailers and almost killed Malcom and Harding... but still, the majority of the third act can all be traced back to an extremely minor decision that the main cast had absolutely no control over and no way to predict.

What’s scarier is we didn’t even see the whole island.Meaning there could be more dinosaurs we didn’t see.I headcanon Baryonyx being on site B.I see it going like this:
We see Malcolm and the group going along the terrain, trying to find a river exit. They find one and start going along on a makeshift raft. They have to pass through a long section of cave, where they can see large side water bodies and passages. As they raft along, they decide to turn on the flashlights, having passed the entrance and now out of sight of the sun light. Before they do so they hear a plopping sound.Levine asks what that is, with Malcolm replying probably nothing. They hear it again and switch on the light where they heard it, to see that it was a fish swimming to the surface to snag a piece of floating vegetation. They think nothing of it, and continue along. However they discover that there is a dead end and so after arguing begin to turn back. They start doing so, until Arby hears another sound. He turns his flashlight on, and sees something that looks like a log a good distance away. His light flickers, and when he shines it again the log is gone.As he’s about to tell the others, the raft is violently rammed. No one falls in the water yet, but they stop and shine the lights everywhere. There in front of them is something that looks crocodile like.Until Levine realises it’s a Baryonyx. It rears out of the water, in full view of the light. It is about ten metres long, with a pale white colour almost grey. It’s head is extremely crocodile like, with scuts on its back. The teeth are longer then they should be, with a long extending tongue, and it’s arms end with sharp claws that seem to be partially splitting to reveal new digits,It roars, and the people at the front of the raft move further back instinctively, until a loud scream is heard.Behind them, another grabs Levine. It drags him away as they watch in horror.Meawhile the first one is being beaten back with the makeshift oars by Malcolm and Sarah, until it disappears away into the water. They leave the cave tunnel, dimly hearing levines screams and then the sound of crunching before the cave goes silent again. After this they discover in the main control room when digging through the files that Ingen cloned them, however due to their tendency to fill in the blanks of the DNA extracted from amber, the Baryonyx didn’t come out normal. They were sensitive to sun light, hence why they were in the caves. They used saltwater crocodile DNA, causing the crocodile features. And because of the even more incomplete DNA then usual, they ended up with extreme agression and a tendency to dry out, requiring them to spend more time in water from the frog DNA.Therefore Ingen left them there as they were too unstable for the park.

I like two things about this scene. For one, it's implied that even the Rex has something on the island to "fear".
Secondly, the Carnos are ousted by the flashlights. I like not every dinosaur in the series being some implacable killing machine; in real life animals are frequently "displaced" by threat displays from animals they could almost certainly kill in a straight fight. For instance, a black bear scurrying away from from a tiny old lady waving her arms and yelling. Or a honey badger chasing off a lion. I think it's entirely plausible that these predators could be unnerved by a bunch of unfamiliar animals boldly invading their territory and engaging in a bright threat display that likely hurts their night vision and invalidates their camouflage.

Brilliant work and I cannot understand why Spielberg and co. didn't adapt the novel properly. It's a masterwork of sci-fi. I don't get it. TheGIGABR2004 They didn't notice the rex either which is like twice it's size.
Also didn't see it on an open field because of camouflage?
It would only work in area with tall grass or a forest where it can blend in.
I think you are mixing up camouflage and invisibility spell.
Chameleons can camouflage but that doesn't mean they turn invisible. They are just harder to see in an area where they blend in like leaves when they turn green.

Have to agree with Damn Son. Even the Carnos in the novel are said to not hunt during the day because it's harder to camouflage or something like that which is the reason the raptors attack the group the next morning. But then again, the movie is entirely different than the novels, maybe we'll see some Carno camo in the next movie.

I absolutely *loved* this scene in the book. It was so creepy, really makes you hold your breath through it, even on rereading.
One correction, though: it was the village convenience store, not the lab. 😋

You just spoiled this scene for me, I haven got there yet! Haha I'm kidding. I agree with you, it is really short in the novel but the scene is so good just sooo good... seeing the effects you did gives chills, but for any one out there that never read the novel; get out e read it! You have to!
P.S: Commenting on this scene, knowing that the director for the new movie is a genius in horror films... What are the odds of having this scene with the Indominus Raptor? Fingers crossed!

Klayton Fioriti I agree! I remember dreaming with this as a kid... I had this book when I was around 5 and even since I read it, occasionally, still after all these years, I have a dream about being chased by two carnotaurs in an abandoned city with fog, trying to save a girl. I can never figure out who she is, but all I remember is that it is far two real and that I felt like I was being chased for hours! And yes, I've read it really young haha as soon as I could read without help XD

You know even if this scene inspired the indominous chameleon ability, the complexity these creatures possessed was very interesting. In fact the raptors and Rex staying out of its territory must have been a learned lesson. Raptors must have lost some of their own to the carnos while the Rex must have suffered injuries they inflicted.

Ah well, maybe somewhere down the road, if they choose to make more of these movies. I hope that the Crichton Estate does sell the rights to make more films, spinoffs and video games. I LOVE this franchise!! Always have, always will!!

Thorne was my favorite character from TLW, too bad he wasn't adapted in the movie.
I liked how his reality-over-theory attitude contrasted against Malcolm's chaos theory musings, and his "exams" that he used to give as an engineering professor (which involved MacGyver-like challenges of using a few odd items to create something useful) was a nice touch.

I'm really hoping we'll see that scene in Jurassic World: Domion. Imagine how scary would be, especially now that the dinosaurs are free in the world. Like make him appearing in an apparently calm scene, where the characters talk or something, and then hearing his breath going louder and louder, until they realize that a big predator was lurking on their back. It would make the scene very cool. And yes, I know they already use it for the Indominus, but they also reuse the whole hybrid concept two times in the saga, so I hope they'll use it.
